when I hit ok and change the thing to a plane and then increase the shape scale all my buildings are on top of each other. They won't disperse like in the tutorial.

It´s not inkluded in the City_Templates Projekt!

Clumping FIXED!!!
By default in SCENE TAB "add to group" is checked. Delete group in SCENE PANEL and uncheck "Add to Group" box. Then you can start adding buildings to your scene and once in AE. Using shape scale to separate your buildings randomly...

Hi, Firstly I love your plugins! amazing work guys. Would it be possible for you to show us or provide some explanation as to how you created the Scanning and digitization of the buildings in the demo reel you show case from 1:07. I would really like to learn how to do this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

HI, Great Stuff Loving the effects. Question, How did you create the digital effect in this video? what effects did you use additional to map the buildings etc.? Timing is 0:54-0:57. I would like to create such an effect.

I can't seem to add a second dimension to my work because when I go to groups in E3D it is showing a single channel. When I click on it to reveal 1 to 5 and try to add multi groups i.e. 1 and 2 it won't let me apply to both groups but just one or the other. How do I get both groups assigned?

If you have the problem of the buildings clumping together when you first create them you need to go to the layers effects > Group 1 > Particle Replicator > Then Increase the Shape Scale and the buildings should spread apart. This works in the newest version of E3D.

sooooooo any ideas on the V2 issue of the buildings "clumping" instead of randomizing position like in the tut? I really want to use this pack, but it is NOT a time saver if I have to make 30 layers to place the buildings inna "random" manner.
Ben
Remove them from the group folder and instead have them exist on group 1 a separate layers (within the Scene panel in Element 3D.)
Jim
When you add buildings like in the tutorial it doesn't randomize them, but if you use the city blocks, it will work. I hope this isn't how it is supposed to work in Ev2. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I can't get this to work with E3D 2.0? It seems that the random seed doesn't work the same way? I have all of the models showing up in the same place instead of randomizing?
Bruce

I'm having the same problem. In E3D2 I selected 7 buildings, and in AE, following your steps, results in 50 iterations of my stack of buildings, as opposed to 50 random buildings. Any help would be great.

well take the camera tool and rotate the camera or move the camera ( press c )
because you dont ove the building, you move the camera around the buildings

imagine it that way your camera is a helicopter and flys around the city.

to get to the camera tool you press c. Now there are different types of camera movement

rotating( well its rotating )

parallel ( like just plain and simple moving )

and zoom ( zoom duuh )

to switch between those different camera moving-modes you have to press c again

We would really love a tutorial on how to re-create the effect in demo video for this product(the city scanning trick). Also, can we make the lights of the buildings sparkle randomly like the city is under electric shock?
Again, thanks for all the super cool tutorials and plug-ins.
Nicholas Lambourne

Loved this tutorial.

I'm hoping to use Element 3D to make a version of old 1902 London for a title sequence. Obviously the metropolitan pack would be useless for this but if I modelled and textured individual buildings and tiled sections to 1904 architecture then imported them into element 3d I would be able to position and control them like the ones in the tutorial?

Its either that or i'll be creating my entire title sequence in 3ds Max.
KHAN

yes you can - just import all the models in E 3d and do as the tutorial says - works with any kind of model

Andrew you are simply amazing. Artistically and educationally. I do have a question. One: What video card and processor(s) do you use? Two: Were the buildings made in 3dsMax? I'd like to create some of my own to resemble buildings that my company works out of (Chi, NY, LA, etc.). Any help would be great. Also can buildings from google sketchup be used?

Thanks again, I'm a complete beginner with AE but LOVE watching what you do. keep it up, and I look forward to seeing your name in the credits of many many movies to come.

a few new things that dont require Element 3D so i can continue learning on your website.

If he doesn't make a little money, he can't support his family OR make the more broad tutorials. Even if every tutorial from now on was how to use Element, he has done more great tutorials for general AE users than any other website on the planet. We need to thank him for what he does, not get upset at him for wanting to promote VC products.
Ben L.

That would be a bad move. To not support his customers in their purchases. Honestly, if you were the memorize the wealth of NON element 3d tuts on here, you would pretty much be a After Effects wizard anyway.

Hey Andrew! Great, great new tutorial, as many have said before me! Just something I was thinking about: most real cities have their shorter buildings on the outside, and the big skyscrapers on the inside. I was thinking it would be neat if, inside Element, you could set up ramped scaling. For instance you could gradually scale particles to be larger and larger over a ramp in any direction. Then you could use a radial ramp to make particles' scales larger and larger over a radial ramp. Hope you understand what I mean!
Thanks as always,
Nate

Skywalker,
The 5 images in the Metro_Skies folder are NOT the 10 Templates / Project files. And they are similar images, but not the same images used in the tutorial above. The reply I sent to Tech Support said that these things will be released '...in the days ahead'. I love VC, have many of their products but this one was released with things missing. Missing components from a free tutorial, project or preset are much more acceptable than those missing from a PAID product.

This pack is so damn cool. I’m curious to know if you can/how it would look merging some of these buildings together, to create a custom building. (currently working on wayfindings map for the hospital/university I work at)
At the price, this is by no means expensive, actually it’s a darn bargain, but I just moved into a new house so will have to wait till next month to find out :0)
Till then, fabulous work as always team :0)
