The particles don't remain where they are born. They follow the emitter. Not sure what changed in Particular or AE to create this result but it renders this tutorial pretty useless. Thanks, though. I'm sure it was awesome when it worked.

The softwares are pretty cool but too cost here in Nigeria

(i'm sorry writing here but in the forum nobody answer)
I have a problem with this:S
When i have made the particular effect then my smoke is in little "boxes/layers".
In the smoke particle composition the black background doesn't disappear when i added to the trapcode - particular effect so it looks like the smog in boxes with black background.:S

I tried the all options of the layer mode but it is still wrong:S
but
when Andrew clicked at 05:21 the "toggle transparency grid" button , the whole black background disappeared , but in this step i do it the same way , the whole background doesn't dissapear just which is in the Mask's line.
I have no idea what i am doing wrong:S
sorry for my lameness :S but i exactly do how he showed in the tutorial. :S

Have you tried putting a key-frame on force, gravity and rotation at the point you want the effect to happen, set the values to 0, moved up one frame and set them to your desired values.

but in my preview and if i rendered the video the are 2 red stripes crushing eachother in the middle of the video.

Great tutorial...
But when I tried it I wanted to do it a bit differently so instead of a smoke puff I used fire.
Took forever for my little MSI Wind to render it...over 50 hours...but it looks nice...if anyone wants to take a look...

This was ok, but here is what I think of when I hear "whispy".

I'd like to see more fluidity from the smoke. Instead of the smoke covering the text, it should become the body of the text.

I see you use Trapcode particular, is there an other way to make that smoke effect FROM SCRATCH? I would love to see (and it would be fairplay) something spectacular that doesn't need (but could) Twitch or Riot Gear or Trapcode p. YOU are the best at After Effects. Please, give us neebies hope that, one day, we too could be as good as you (or close to be) and show everyone that those plugins premade animations aren't absolutely essential.

Interesting work you've got here. I like this one better than the last one you did. I found this to be of more use. But isn't this in fact sort of like the one with the burning grenade?
Anyway, I've got a question for you, which I'm sure you won't answer since I suspect you don't read the comments, but I'll ask it anyhow:
Could one use the same method for say a teleportation? Because I remember in Harry Potter 6 I thing those 'death eaters' were all smoky at the final battle, and i was wondering if one could get the same effect using this method.
Also, you should do a tutorial about how to fake the underwater look, that would come in handy to some of us.

With the greatest respect to you, AK, I think the majority of AE users can perform this effect without this tutorial.
