For anyone who doesn't have an Option tab. The setting aren't gone, they're just spread out in the Effect Controls. For example: the 'Floor is ice' setting can now be found under Physics>Floor>Floor Action. 'Gravity' is also now under Physics, and so on

Hello, I was looking though some of your videos in search of an animation I was looking for. This particular video had one animation that was a little similar to what I was looking for. I'm doing this short film for a course I am taking in my college. We are looking for a way to create a sort of mystical entity that is full of color and looks inspirational to an artist. Almost a God like form because the idea is a muse, sort of like the inspirational God. comes down and touches an artist to give him inspiration. The animation I saw that was similar was the one of the first few of the twister particles that was in a vertical form.

I don't know if I'm just going blind, but the "Options" link seems to have disappeared from CC Particle World in After Effects CS5, along with a few other things, like the scrubbers.

There is no " reset option" in AE6, I know where is the "ice" option, but have no idea about where is the "motion blur"

And I say I'm from Spain because here, these days, when we open Youtube.com, there's this Nissan banner in which they use this very scene.
They have almost not changed anything to it, only the color (blue-ish instead of orange-ish) and not much more actually.
I just can't leave a link to the banner, I've not found how, but I can to a couple of snapshots I've done. Hopefully it will be enough.

When I make the velocity negative it doesn't look like its sucking in like it does in the tutorial, and when I precomp it and reverse the time i can reposition the particles. I really want to know how to fix the velocity problem, any suggestions?

Wow! I looks so easy when you do it. I am going slightly mad here in Sweden because for instance when I make a new effects grid layer it directly disappears when I click anywhere, also when I create a new camera...I can´t move it before it goes away. Ideas?

In CS4 when I <alt> click values (like position) there is no option or window popup to type numbers or anything in. Is there a different way of doing it in CS4?

HELP with CS5 Particle World:
When I create the camera layer, the particle world grid disappears, unlike in the tutorial, so I can't position it.
The box is checked in the effects panel too.

Whoa... This looks so cool. I've been trying to design a poster somewhat like this incorporating the glowing 3D effects in my logo but it looked off somehow. Finally, I decided to use the professional design services of an online logo design site instead (http://www.logodesignstation.com) and got the design I wanted at an affordable price and fast too, within 24 hours. I did provide this link for reference and inspiration to my designer as I liked how yours look. I'm not going to design anything without any professional help anytime soon although it's fun. Andrewwww maman, i followed this tut STEP-BY-STEP and guess what??! i NAILED IT ))) man, i added my own craziness to it and turned out kick ass so thanks a BUNCH for your awesome tuts.. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem... I noticed there was question about it further up.
*Setting the velocity to a negative value has no effect*
Here's why it doesn't work...
The reason being that the negative value does not affect the the particles in the way you would expect, instead it's actually the radius of the emitter that is the corner stone of the sucking. When you start playing with the size of the emitter the actual start position increases and so the particle begins outside and has a negative velocity... going inwards.

thanks! but there is one problem with your tutorial. it's that you change particle birth rate but don't say it on video, so people get like 30 particles and they try to find where is the problem, what they did wrong, but they can't because you didn't told to change birth rate. so it's a small problem but you should say it. anyways, nice tutorial, rely useful

Hey! there is a problem, man! When in tutorial you click on the clock near evolution, you can write 'time*200'. But I can't. I do the same as you do, but nothing happens. It only adds a keyframe - that's all! Help, please!! What do I have to do?

Hey Andrew. Awesome tut. I too have a question regarding particles. I'm following your tutorial. I set up the first particle grid. Yet when I set the velocity to -1.5, the particles still explode outward, not inward! Any ideas?!

I'm using AE CS3 and Cycore 1.6 and I'm having problems getting the RENDERING option to affect the FLOOR settings like BOUNCE, ICE, etc.
For example, the particles won't slide or bounce off of the floor.

Any idea on how I could maybe import my maya camera into AE to get proper movement in 3d space or something along those lines so i can match the ball coming out from the snakes mouth in 3d space ? Great Tutorial, what else...
I had some problems with the Particle PI. I didn´t see that with you.
It happened 3 times (when I added a new CC Particle World) that the grid changed. I didn´t used the camera so it had to be that it chanched from alone when adding a new PlugIn.
Did you had this problem too or did I miss something?

Andrew,the tutorial that you gave I've already tried it before. I'm putting many kind of effect such as glow, particle world, bubles,and lens flare. It's surely doesn't looked exactly like yours but it's definitely has a bit similarity with your tutorial.But netherthanless, your tutorial was really helpful and makes mine looked better.

Cool tutorial! I´d be very curious to see how you´d do the trick where the energy-light-thingie would cast highlights and shadows on the surroundings, you know, reflections of it on car windows and such, to make it even more believable.

Andrew great once again. but one question, i feel like a dunce, but i can't get this to work... Not new to after effects at all but struggling with one issue in this tutorial.. For the sucking particles, even when i set my velocity to -1.5 or any negative number they still shoot out... I cannot figure it out for the life of me.. if you, or anyone else here can help me out that would be awesome. Thanks so much for all the great tutorials, they are a constant source for inspiration and technique

I'm having the same problem as a couple of other people - setting my velocity to negative does *not* reverse the particle system. I am still using AE7, though. Might that be the problem?

Putting the velocity of the particules on a negative value doesn't affect the value of it... I mean putting a negative value render the same thing than a positive value : my particules still coming-out instead coming-in.

CC Particle ones come with CS3...I didn't have them either. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a valid copy of AF, no wonder it was cheaper.

Funny how some complain about some of your tutorials. I just watched this, like I´ve wathed all the others. And actually from what I´ve seen I learn alot more than just creating energy or a car-hit. or exploding planets from watching the very tutorials. I have used some of your techniques in other scenes. And that is what I think it´s about. Master AE without being a copycat. Great work as usual Andrew!

HI Andrew I am writing to you for first time, I am from India. I am a motion graphic designer, I went through all your tutorials from creative cow and now Video copilot. I really applicate your work and effort to make us aware of different visual effects.
I have one request can u cum up with some easy way for 3D compositing some thing like crowd multiplying characters or enhancing the environment. Like a stadium full of people but in the original file one few people are there, lot of men marching to war etc.

o wow! so amazes me u make me dream about it already... just wondering, ever had an idea of showing us that great turbulence(particle) coming from the north then turned to sideways hitting the great wall with a big bang(using shatter i guess?)!?? then after that the turbulence forms into the name VIDEO COPILOT?? how cool is that?? can you show us??

Just wanted to say "thanks" for all the tutorials Andrew. I'm not in the film industry and never will be, but I love screwing around with After Effects as a hobby.
God knows how many hours I've spent watching your tutorials and goofing off with the software, but I can tell you this - every hour has been a hell of a lot of fun.
I'm a run-of-the-mill corporate website sorta guy. I've been building websites and Intranets for blue-chip companies here in Australia for the last fourteen years and in the last twelve months I've started producing online, flash-based tutorials.
And I have to confess - I've ripped your style off mercilessly.
I've seen a lot of online tutes over the last few years and I gotta hand it to you buddy, yours are the best.

Great stuff. Wow, CC particle world is still very powerfull. I'm more learnign Particular for the moement.

Andrew, you're like the WAL-MART of the video and film industry. Affordable, easy, but effective. Other big stores are losing business because of WAL-MART.I'm pretty sure that other professional video editors, graphic artists who are as great as you hate you now for giving away these awesome and free tutorials. I don't know exactly why you're doing this. All I can say is, may you live longer and stay generous as you are.

yea...what is quick matte? I am keying some red stuff and its proving difficult because were using a green screen suit. there is some odd 20 different shades of green on the suit. its going to be amazing once its done! RED is so much fun to work with, but the software is a real butt as its in beta and the only way to retain 4:4:4 is to export as a TIFF...70GB a min...I am trying to find a way to matte what the different color keys see that i am using to create a reverse garbage matte to protect the outside footage without rotoscoping. any suggestions would be appreciated!

For some reason the video will play for a few min then stop and have to buffer. I don't have anything else on my network using bandwidth, and it doesn't do this for the other videos. Is this video a larger file? Is the site under a lot of strain?

Before even watching this one I'm commenting! Thanks to you and people like Aaron @ Creative Cow I've learned so much about the Adobe software that I've gone from struggling in Photoshop to designing flash & video media for people in the space of about five weeks! It's been a while since the last tutorial, maybe its just been because of the release of The Bullet and Series One. But what a tutorial.
As always the photo realism and complexity broken down into simple steps made this a fantastic tutorial. Only thing missing was Sam being whisked away..

Hey andrew,
cheers for this tutorial. after seeing your example a few weeks back i did attempt it myself. I did ok. Used particle systems and tried a few ways. now i'll watch and see how you did it.

My understanding is that CC Particle World is on the AE install disk as an extra.
I've gone through all 5 of my Production Studio Premium disks and can find nothing by MSI and CABinet files.
Can the CC files be extracted from MSI and CAB files?

Great tutorial!! One question....There are so many steps involved to achieve this, how did you discover how to do this? Did you know in advance the steps needed or was there a lot of experimenting to achieve this. I've love to know your thought process and how you got to this level of expertist.
