Render Challenges!

I've been playing around inElement 3D a lotand I was thinking about starting some kind of animation challenge. It's actually been a fun free-form exercise to create something without specific parameters or rules. To design this way feels very organic and mistakes help to drive new ideas. Plus it's an excuse to practice new techniques.

I love seeing othersdesigners that do daily/weekly renders like Beepleand see how it evolves over time. Have you guys started a daily or weekly render challenge? What helps keep you consistent? What have you been able to learn from it?

I'm going to try and do a few designs every month and see where it goes! And I'm sure there could be a tutorial or two based on some of my favorites. I was actually thinking about this more, doing a few design tutorials that just get into my process and show how a design evolves and be a little less linear...

I have been trying to do daily experiments with Element 3D to learn the software. Lately I have been trying to make crowds with OBJ sequences. Here is a link to my latest experiment [ https://youtu.be/keKM5fq0jdQ ]. It's very rough, but it has over 700 characters. I'd love to hear any tips you could provide on making crowds in Element 3D.

Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration.

Hey Andrew, does this tutorial

take us in the right direction for the amazing glow effects we are seeing here?

Hey Andrew,

I've been wanting to mix in VR live action material using skybox and compositing in some obj sequences via E3D... It's a bit of a render monster to be honest...

Would you be planning on doing any VR tutes in the forseeable future?

Hopefully I can make some good VR comps while the rest of the world is keeping busy chasing pokemons.

Thanks for the Star Wars Pack btw... awesome

Hi Andrew. I've used Element extensively. Unfortunately there's no support for CS6, so I need the other one, V2. Unfortunately I can't afford it. It's a shame really, 'cause I'd really love to enter the contest.
Anyway, my input on your contest is this: Assemble, disassemble, deform... these are all things Element was designed for. How about making it really challenging and making a motion graphic with Element that Element was not designed for? I've done a few of those. That pushed my boundaries far more than anything else. To simulate SSS and in Element V1, or to use animated meshes instead of using the engine's builtin capabilities were real technical challenges I faced, made me push the boundaries of your engine and it was fun. Just some food for thought.

I would love to see you do a "tutorial" or series of videos where you start with a more or less blank slate and end up with a unique render, just to see your process and problem solving at work.

I've been using element 3D for all of my daily artworks and posting them on instagram. Every single animation that you see on my page was entirely done in element 3D.
It was also featured a couple times under "Surreal Graphics"

Thanks to your plugin, I've been able to post at a much consistent pace and people seem to love it. Check it out when you get a chance!

Love all the work you do! Been using all your tutorials and some plugins throughout my career. However a year ago I started dailies using element 3d. I purchased it promising myself that I would use it for at least one month in my dailies. So here I am still a year later using element3d and Cinema4d on my instagram account. Check out my daily renders on instagram "thesetapart1"

Thanks for being and inspiration man!

Stephen Keating

Hey Tieu... You can create groups within groups... plus you can use aux channels... It's in the E3D tutorials around the time when the v2 launched. Your only limitation is the size of your computer's memory

I'm having trouble with element... when I group and object and try to rotate it with the axis at the center, it rotates but as if the axis is at the top of the object. Is there any way to force the group axis to the center?
When. Selecting model you should have a window on right property that has an import from centre axis.

Sure, I'm always open to challenges.

I love the idea of experimentation, as it will cause me to slow down and take time for myself to grow as opposed to rushing through everyday trying to complete client projects or looking for new money makers. What about a tutorial or two on one of the shorties you created here...from start to finish?

Simply Awesome.

What if we send to you our renders and you post weekly the best works of the Video Copilot community? I'd really love to see how Element 3D is used by the artists around here, and also it could be a motivation for us to get better and explore new possibilities.

Just about doing something like the "Matte painting challenge", but with Element 3D.

One thing that we will see in our lifetime possibly is the internet of things. The idea is that everything that you own would be connected to the internet giving information about what you need, want, use, etc. But along with this is the idea that everything could also be a smart device in some way or connected to a smart device. Your morphing designs get me thinking about the idea of electronics, communications, and robotics being embedded in every day devices such that they cannot be seen except from an exploded view.

These are amazing! I started my dailies 238 days ago and haven't missed one yet. It's been a great learning experience. Having to come up with a new design everyday that you know people will see causes you to learn new techniques and tools that you otherwise wouldn't have. It's also has opened up a bunch of great freelanced opportunities. You can see my renders @shittyrenders on Instagram if anyone is interested.

Thanks for all the inspiration Andrew!
