New Tutorial & Free iPhone 5 Model!

September 17th, 2012

If you wanted to get your hands on the new iPhone 5, "Congratulations", we have a free 3D model just for you! Along with this free model I also recorded a short tutorial that focuses on animating the screen and preparing the model for Element 3d.

The iPhone model is in the OBJ format so you can use it with any 3D program such as 3D max or Cinema 4D.

I agree with you, eikon. But plugins and freebies have peaked open the curiosity of a ton of people who never were interested in or capable of 3D and motion graphics prior. So yes, they expect everyone to provide them with everything because they can't make anything. And some see no reason to even try since they can grab models. I personally do not like using models, but have to on occasion at my boss' request. However, I know 3D, studied in in college and study it daily. I am not as good as Andrew Kramer at anything and appreciate his work, but I also aim to be a master of it myself one day. That should be the goal. People using this stuff who don't know what they are doing come to me all the time with questions that could be answered if they studied the craft.

Tried loading the .obj into photoshop. the diffuce and screen textures load, but not the specular. have i done something wrong, or shall i add the specular manualy and how...

talking about objects and logos... I did not find a way to import my Illustrator Logo into Elements 3D and extrude it. Does this just work with fonts?
I even tried to create an obj in Photoshop CS6 and import to Element 3D, but it looks wrong. Any tutorials on that how to create a 3D Logo from a 2D logo in Illustrator CS6 as we use this all the time?

i'm trying to get this model into C4d but can't seem to get the textures to work properly.

I applied the diffuse.png to the Diffusion texture and the Specular.png to the specular colour texute. but its nt right. can some one point me in the right direction?

Hey Guys, i have a problem when i render the Iphone Comp.

Output settings are:
Multisampling 0
Supersampling 0

I also render it in
Multisampling 1
Supersampling 0
the problem is the same. I also try Supersampling 2, the same bad result.

My System is weak, but i render the Biohazardlogo and other projekts without problems. Could it be the Reflaction?

For all who has the same problem. The Support give me the Tipp to try disabling Multiprocessor Rendering in AE. I done it and now it works pretty well.

Hi guys! Just one question, is there any "opacity option" for each group?
It would be great. Im doing some text any they come in and disapear in distance, and dont want to use a lot of copies of Element, so I set each word in a diferent group, the problem is there is no opacity option for each group!

Hi Andrew and VC Group. I created a puzzle in C4D, but when I use shatter the Element not only unravels the puzzle, each piece is individually dismounts. How can I solve this problem in C4D for the element?

I'm sure this question may have been asked before, but is there a way to add more than "5 groups" to element 3D? if not is there a work around way to be able to manipulate more than 5 groups in the same layer?

I really wonder if element could be used with object tracking,i mean like replacing a cardboard sword with a 3d lightsaber or such.not for static objects but moving ones.i watched your tutorials about the use of camera tracing with E3D and it would be so great if you could make a tutorial about using element with object tracking(if possible) love the work and effort you put it in this plug in,it is really a genius invention for AE

Drop the Diffuse png into Photoshop & replace the black textures with white & reassign the drop down- worked for me.

If i made animation in 3ds max with camera set up and animating body and export in element 3d would it get that animation?

sorry, no. Element doesn't support animated files of any sort. It's too hard on the GPU memory or something like that... Read the help guides to find out more.

!HELP! For some reason, its coming up as plain black, the screen shows up and the camera but nothing else. the specular map doesn't show up. I tried adding it on the specular tab on the material editor as a bitmap and clicked on the image but nothing happened HELP!

Your work is unparalleled and you have amazed me again. My small inquiry showed me that you have made some mistakes with the materials and colours of the iPhone 5. You can check it on Apple's site : http://www.apple.com/iphone/design/
I tried to fix it myself with Photoshop but I'm lacking of skill in that program, although it is quiet similar to After Effects.
Is there any chance you post an updated version of the model or just tell me how to fix it myself? It is kind of odd that I am the only one who has noticed on that mistake. Anyway, please respond.

Hey Andrew till now Element is a powerful plugin to import 3d obj files but i wondering could the plugin import a 3D model with its own animation .. for Example i have a running 3d character model can i import it with element to AE ?!

Andrew,

I tried using your technique of using video or footage as the texture map, but I can't get it to work.

I'm using the Sphere HD model from the primitives pack and I made a precomp with Particular and some different effects to use as my map, but it won't work! I followed all the directions in the vid, but it's not working. Any suggestions? I want to create a sphere with some cool effects inside without using CC Sphere like you did in your other tuts.

...to be more specific...I want to be able to create multi textures that are EASILY RELINKED IN ELEMENT like you did here for the iPhone5 and the other assets / models I purchased with the plug-in package. I try bringing in C4D project files with the shaders on the pieces & parts and Element strips everything off - making it extremely difficult to relink everything successfully. Please help. Thanks so much.

Open the Defuse png file in an image editor and change the dark grey sections to White. I did this and changed it in Photoshop CS6 until it looked right. I know have a white and black defuse png file which I can swop out as I need.

holy shat guys... if you cant change black to white, you should not be doing motion graphics. i cant believe how much hand-holding people expect on this site... especially on stuff that is being given to you for free! god knows you probably wouldnt be able to place vert 1 if you had to build the model yourself.
