Hi Everyone...

It would be nice if someone could keyframe the camera move INSIDE Elements 3d interface. It's so flexible (the interface) and MUCH BETTER than after effect's camera handle. Then maybe somehow, the element 3d coyld export internally the keyframes created to his own camera layer. Thank in advance. Great plugin.

First of all, congratulations for this amazing plugin, i use it all the time.

I have a problem with the multi-object option of the Element 3D plugin, it works perfectly with text layers but if i work with a layer that has 2 or more masks (In the same layer) the plugin don´t recognize each mask as a individual object, like you did in the Biohazard Logo´s tutorial , when i turn on the multi-object option. I started from the beginning 4 times, and i cheked that all the options were well.

hi

Can you use the animation engine between more than 2 groups? So let???s say that we morph from group 1 to group 2, but now we want to take it further and go to group 3. Is this possible?

Hi, I've got some problem with the pivots. I have a free 3d model of a butterfly rigged. But when I import the three elements left wings, right wings and body, the pivots I set in C4D are not useful and I can't animate the wings movement.

About to buy this for a project, real excited to try it out!

I'm curious if there's a fairly simple way to have the 3D objects have reflections (like on a shiny table top) with multiple objects in the scene. For now I'm planning on my workflow to be me duplicating and flipping the object upside down for the reflection and blurring that off. The main issue is having multiple objects have the reflections, at low opacity (40% or so) and not have them appear through each others reflections.

The one way I'd do this is to get my animation down and do multiple render passes and composite them together. Perhaps render a track matte to block some of the reflections from bleeding over each other.

Is there a simpler way of doing this, so that everything is in the same comp and easily update-able?

Hello Andrew,

Could you tell me if there is a way to extrude 2 different text layers in element to use them as objects in Groups for the animation engine ? So that one blends in to the other ? Couldn't find how.

I also wonder if there is a way to set anchor point/ rotation of a group in element:
I imported a case and its parts from c4d to assign the parts to element groups and animate them. Everything works perfect (and so fast) but when it comes to open the case it looks like I can't set the rotation so that the top case rotate on its back side.

You can't animate between 2 separate objects or separate text layers. If you click on the object in the scene setup, there are some preset anchor point options.

I want to add a few words as an happy owner of element full bundle:

I never felt how much someone liked what he did and how much he wished to share all what he could more than with this fantastic work of yours.

I still don't understand how your engine can render so good and so fast while, at the same time, on the same planet, it would take me hours in any 3D program to do what I can do in minutes with Element/AE....
I don't understand but it's an impressive fact. Both for visualization and rendering. (early 2008 mac pro/ nvidia geforce GTX 285)

We have a huge control on almost everything.
3D models and shaders are top quality. everything can be customised. Imports from c4d and .obj work great.
Ambient occlusion, fog, motion blur animation engine etc etc..
Great interactivity with other plugins and more !

I had planed this purchase since the first announcement months ago. (not the 3D models however but...the price is so fair that I didn't hesitate long) and now this money is yours (and element mine )

I could not feel honest if I wouldn't thank you again for this deal , your work and its quality.
I now feel concerned about the success of element and look forward seeing the effects of your fantastic work on "industry" standards and behavior and user's creativity and work.
I hope this little thx will help a bit.

Like andrew suggested here - i tried using one of the anchor presets but still non of them worked for me.
i'm trying to get 2 front and 2 rear wheels (seperated by material ofcourse) to rotate along their own axis yet no solution.
my axis inside the C4D is just fine.
an "active object/material" axis preset could have been helpful here.

Amazing Plugin!!! But I have one question... How do you change the color of a different group that is part of the same object without affecting the first group? Also, how were you able to animate the liquids in the two liquid animations that you showed?

I'm sitting in front of my PC shaking my head. I still can't believe it. You guys built a close-to-realtime 3D engine inside After Effects...
I can't believe how fast it renders. I can't believe how awesome it looks and I can't believe what you can achieve with the animation engine with so little tweaking.

There is a downside though. This plugin makes me a little concerned about becoming obsolete as a 3D artist in the near future... but on the other hand I can't wait to work with the plugin myself. Despite being concerned and - I'll admit - a little envious I just realised that I'm already counting money to get my copy as soon as possible

Great Job, Andrew and VC-Team. I'm sure all your hard work will pay off. You deserve it.

Just bought the basic bundle myself. Don't feel that you will be out of a job as a 3D artist. Remember, people still need good models. I would say that this only brings more jobs to the field.

I have five questions... I hope someone can help me out...
1 - Is it possible to use real footage with element 3D ? Like there is that gun that is shooting, but it is all done like the gun has life and is shooting by itself.. Can we use someone to make it look like that person is shooting ?
Or maybe like someone is walking, and he is like a super hero, and he gets mad and he hits the ground and then I use that concrete object and animate it somewhat like Andrew did to make it look like the guy is really strong... Is it going to be possible ? If it is not, even though this is an AMAZING plugin, I pretty much wont be able to use it, cause I'm not into doing a lot of commercials and stuff, I really need real footage in my scenes...
2 - Is that concrete available with any bundle ? If yes, what is it ?
3 - Andrew said that you can pair the object with a null object, so I'm guessing you can pair it with a null object that have been tracked from real footage.. I'm not sure though... Is it possible ?
4 - He didn't make any tutorials on 3D text, will he make any ? (I'm pretty sure he will)
5 - (This is one is just curiosity) Will Andrew ever put for sale those amazing objects like the jet, and the chopper - maybe a vehicle bundle - ?

this is amazing..., but I would like to ask for some support guys.
I tried to import a car model out of C4D r13. It doesn't appear right in element... textures are all white an some parts of the car are missing..
Are there any special configuration needed to be done in C4D? Thanks...

So I finally got around to seeing the new Karate Kid movie and was really pleased to find out that it was the story all about how Jaden Smith???s life got flipped turned upside down. You see, he was chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, shooting some b-ball outside of his school, when a couple of guys (who were up to no good) started making trouble in his neighbourhood. I just made an app suitable for iPhone and Android. It's the Element 3D sales alert app.

All you have to do is install it on your phone and it will set off a sound to let you know right away when Element 3D is for sale. The best news is...it's for free!

Ya I was thinking the same thing. Just how optical flares was abused by 100,000 "designers" in the last 2 years. The same thing will happen with this, I guess we need to start working a lot harder so we dont drown in the great looking 3d thats about to come out. I feel pretty confident this will just make me look better

This has been Argued a billion times past 2-3 days. Short answer was "NO" your grand-Ma wont make a dent, unless she has some serious skills.

Optical Flares stands out because everybody is only using the Anomorphic lens flare look.The plugin could do more then that! but people use what they think is in fashion now.It's not OF fault.

People, lunch time IS NOT mid-day. It's not 12 o'clock. It usually means after 2-3 PM and could mean as late as 5-6 PM. So please be patient!!

not exactly. Mograph makes it easier to manipulate/animate objects inside C4D. Currently, After Effects does not have the ability to even use 3D models natively (well, there is that feature allowing obj's to imported via photoshop. and true, CS6 now has the ray traced renderer which a step closer. and there have been other 3d plugins like boris 3d objects and invigorator, etc). however, none of the plugins have given you as much control over animation as we are seeing in Element 3D....not to mention the render times (what I'm most excited about). so...i guess you could compare it to mograph. but i feel that element is a much bigger asset to AE than mograph is to c4d.

I agree with Kevin. Render time is a hugh deal. As I see it things that have taken me hours and even days to render in my program (3ds Max) will take a lot less time. This will be a big time saver.

My thoughts exactly!

What Kramer does is incredible. While software giants cough up new pathetic features for their own apps (i.e. Autodesk), Adobe and Kramer are the ones to watch.

Someday we'll see Andrew as lead artistic developer on Adobe AE team or some other kind of big shot, 'couse G~d is my withess he deserves it.

For all those 'Are we there yet' people - it's already been stated that it's going to be the afternoon PST - in the UK that is sometime during the evening.

You can work out what time that equals to your timezone.

A lot of the other questions have already been answered - e.g. shadows - it has SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) but it doesn't cast shadows on itself, and presumably you'd have to fake it on a surface layer.

As for other questions - I'd presume precomping is OK - don't know of any situations where you can't - the gravity is just a fake so I would think that any secondary motion is out - really it focuses on a tight way of doing things and it does it very well.

Ive convinced my boss to purchase 3 copies!

I wonder if there's a possibility to make a 3D walk through in Elements, not as good as Vray in max but should be pretty good! I understand that it my not have the actual ray-traced or reflection but fake one already looked awesome in there!


I believe things could enhance or improve in the version 2. for example gravity, or a simple rigging tool to make character animation. sorry I'm nt too greedy am I?

I haven't seen any Pivot Options from the videos we were provided, but maybe the built in Anchor Point feature would be the solution. Just using my intuitions however if Element 3D do has the Pivot Point Features, then I'm no longer focusing on any real 3D Package out there, not to mention the potential of how Element 3D versions would grow just in the near future.

For the people who don't know what OBJ is, I suggest to try and google search the answer. I think Andrew has enough question to answer.

File extension .obj is a 3D object file. Detailed information of file extension .obj on what is .obj File and how to open/play .obj file with no trouble.

if no one else ask for the future:

1_A show/hide button, beside each group.
2_I guess if i load a different obj on each group, and hide/show them successively, i can recreate a animated obj.
so multiply the number of group, or add "illimited" Element layers will be interesting.
3_Can apply any transform effet on the Element layer (turbul, mesh warp, etc...)?
4_is it realy impossible to manipulate each object via a munipulator circle/arrow, near the pivot, like in 3d apps?

When we are going to buy something, we would like to know in advance what it can do. So I honestly think you should talk about the posible shadows, 3d text extrusion, shape extrusion and other posibilities that we have not seen.
What is gone since the demo of june 2011? Deforming and...

Further I would like to know what designs are in the 3d design packs exactly. I am wiling to spend money, but I would like to know what I get in advance.

Hope you can give that info.

Well Andrew, you have developed an engine that makes 3ds Max's nitrous look bad in some aspects. This product of yours not only raises the bar to what 3D is in compositing software but also in 3D applications. Super demo, congrats! I have 2 requests/questions related to the texturing of 3D models:

1. Can you outline the features and limitations on the obj format? Does it carry over the sometimes complicated uv-setup from 3dsmax?

2. I'm hoping, that choosing texturemaps from within the scene setup includes an option to use AE layers or comps. Is that possible? If not, I'm sure you'd agree this would be cool feature.

Andrew, I know this may be too late to ask but... does Element have any sort of extrusion capabilities, or is there a way to create 3D text by using the ready-made 3d elements that come with the packs? Like say... masking out shapes in that block of concrete in the forms of letters?

As I was saying in a previous comment, I've taken my first 3D baby steps just a few days ago and it would be a real bummer if to make 3D text we'd have to first generate an obj and then import it(rather than just doing it in AE directly). The reason for that being that clients always seem to find something to change to the text...

The plug in so far is amazing, congratulations to you and your team. It's brilliant.

Looks fantastic. One quick question: Will you have a list of the objects that come in each model package? I know this might sound basic (as the packages look like a great deal) but often times I have to justify purchasing kits like this for work.

Example:

Boss: "Why do you need the package"
ME: "I need a 3D football for client x,y,z"
Boss: "Does it come with a decent 3D football"
Me: "....?"

I know you only scratched the surface of the capabilities of this plugin, but I have just 1 question,
Can you do a masking effect on the models? similar to how you can Boole an object in a 3d program to effectively mask it. Im just thinking of things like flourishes, with 3d objects!

I'm not sure you can obtain SSS without ray-tracing, but taking a moment and thinking about it, it might actually be possible (at least a fake one). BUT, do you really need SSS??! Can't you really just fake something for the sake of motion-graphics?

Is it possible to develop out of ELEMENT 3D's render engine a new 3DS MAX render engine?

That would be something I was waiting for years! I was always confused with this fact that After Effect's render engine was so much faster then any other 3DS MAX render engine and it looked better then scanline. So now we have a very very good looking Element 3D and it's TURBO FAST so is there a chance for this crazy idea... at least 1:1000000

Could you please try to answer me at least in theory?

This looks so great. I have my credit card ready. One question though, when you make 1 object "morph" into the other, does it need to be the same object? Or can it be 2 different objects and it somehow interpolates between them? What if they have the same poly count?

They need to be the same object. But it will work with separate objects but they do not morph they only "Cross-Scale" into each.

Element does not retain 3D space when pre-composed. This is typical with 3D-aware plug-ins in After Effects.

You can actually link the camera inside the precomp to the camera inside the main comp, and after that just lock it. It's basic expressions, nothing 2 fancy, just pick-whip those values.

I realize there are tons of questions here. Fantastic tutorials and I have just one question. I didn't notice in your tutorial any mention of deformation capability. Can you deform, such as bend or twist on the objects?

Right now, there are no deform options, only static options. There are a few reasons for this but it is doable just not in the time we had to do everything else.

Can you animate text like a "per-character 3d" option would do. What I mean is, could you have each character of a word with nice 3D bevel and extrusion rotating on at a random speed or something like that.

Can you customize the environment background image and use your own, or do you have to use the included presets? For example could I replace the background environment with a star pattern so that models are floating or moving through outer space?

It's so dang fast.

Regardless of all of the other amazing things it can do, it's the speed it can do it. Those exploding balls (youch!) are just incredible to look at being developed and rendered.

Truely amazing, really This baby is so feature-packed that it will be fun to discover all the features! Congrats, Andrew. This is a big hit!

One question however and I think there was no hint of a feature so far that I would really love to see... So here it comes:

Is it possible to animate the MATERIAL'S TEXTURES by using frames from other After Effects layers? This would be very cool for all sorts of effects, including cartoon style animations with different eye and mouth shape textures

So is this feasible?

Is it possible to have an automated alpha channel of only one part /material of 3d object?

Or we should do it manually, like take it solo in white and then put in front everything else in black.

That would be very useful for faster changing colors and adding some special effects to it (like rays and shining)

I can think of nothing better to do tomorrow than lose myself in this plug-in. I just wish I had the extra money to get all the packs, but I'll have to wait on those.

I do most of my work on a MacBook Pro (2011 model) and the ray traced 3D renderer in CS6 is so slow that I try not to use it much. Will Element also require a desktop with a Cuda enabled GPU to be useful?

I know my MacBook will always be slower than a desktop option but how well will Element perform on it?

Great demonstration! After seeing the animation sneak-peak it got me thinking about a few of your more complex tutorials. How you would compare the work flow and complexity to your new plug-in if you were to recreate tutorials such as ???109. Advanced Time Freeze??? or ???122. Epic Shatter???? These tutorials have great multifaceted detail, generally created using a 3D program. Does Element 3D cover this type of detail?

Hello Andrew, great plugin, I think it is a gamechanger! However, I watched this animating with Element 3D video and I want to ask if is it possible to set Polygon mode for each group? It would be nice to easily animate from one group in normal mode to second group in wireframe... If there is not this option at this time, take it as a feature request please. I was also thinking about... 3D users since sometimes now import easily from C4D OBJ. and sequence inside AE, etc.
But the price is low, so it could be useful and fun to have on specific work and simple animation, with fast and smooth render time.

speed is the biggest one. render times on some scenes in c4d can get pretty wild. with this seconds (of course not with the same quality but pretty good)

This looks amazing! I'm still a little dissapointed in not having the ability to play with OBJ sequences though. Realflow meshes would have been killer to render in Element. I'm curious to what degree a performance hit you would expect from such a feature? As it is, Element works pretty much real-time. I would gladly take a 20x render time increase if it meant the extra flexibility.

Looks sweet! Quick question... I notice the layer that you've got the Element plug in added to isn't 3D, but the layer/models still seem to interact with the comp camera. Using helicopters as an example, is it possible to use 3D Camera Tracker to track your footage, create a 3D scene and then have your helicopter model in that scene? If that makes sense?!

Wow! I am super excited! I was a little apprehensive as a 3D animator, this makes it look like anyone can do what it took me time to learn. But I love it because it makes my job much easier and faster. This is a great program!

I would like to know does the animation engine work with audio wavelengths? Can the 3D particles react to music, or will this require an expression?

Ah, don't be afraid about that. Regular 3D animation and modelling is far from replaced with this plugin. There are so many things that this plugin does not do that regular 3D programs are still very valuable.

Thats not to say that this plugin is just awesome!

Right, so 48hrs ago I'd justified spending 150 bucks on this amazing software.
24 hrs later I'd seen the Pro Design Bundle so then managed to justify spending 250 bucks (it's saving me money right?) Now, I'm checking my CC balance to see if 500 bucks is do'able!

I may not eat this month but I'll be smiling from ear to ear experimenting with all this stuff...

God damn you Kramer [shakes fist]... But I still love you and your team.

I just thinking about this plugin 3 years ago since i use Trapcode Particular..but this year all particles are Elements in Real 3D engine!!..but hey..Andrew Kramer!! you are AWESOME!!! The Revolution of Video Copilot!!

Should be able to just use a light, on element turn off accept lights, and on the other layer, turn on accept shadows

You can find "city" or building models almost anywhere on the net. Turbosquid.com comes to mind. (BTW, once you've seen the prices on Turbosquid and others, you'll appreciate VCP model packs as being a real bargain!)

Quick question!

Can you use the animation engine between more than 2 groups? So let's say that we morph from group 1 to group 2, but now we want to take it further and go to group 3. Is this possible?

Haha too awesome. I'm totally gonna make a skyrim video now where you cheat and duplicate hundreds of an item and they explode out of a single item as shown at the 4 minute mark. The hard part will be hand animating the ground collisions due to the lack of gravity simulation, but hey! Shouldn't be too hard haha!

hey, hope all goes well with the launch, amazing product and awesome idea using real time editing speed of game engines and fused it with the power of after effects. this opens up the editing world to new software and more creativity.
