Here's a test I did today based on the graphics from the Tron Trailer using only After Effects and Optical Flares. It's not perfect but it was very interesting trying to recreate the look without using a 3D program. I'm going to relax this weekend and then perhaps make a tutorial or release a project file.

In 2010 we celebrated 5 and a half years of Video Copilot so to celebrate we're going to imply this blog show is somehow intended to be a big celebration. It has everything, action, adventure, music, surprises and even out-takes!

In our recent tutorial we created glowing lights for a 3D title but I wanted to recreate the effect with particles instead. The idea is having bright glowing particles that emit light onto the surface as they hit without having to hand animate the interactions.

In the end, I used the shadow technique from our particle shadows tutorial using a copy of the particles from the top view to simulate the shadow, only here I used the copy as colored light.
