Hi!! This is an awesome plugin, I've been using it for a while now. I recently updated my Ae to 2020 and the ORBs i had from older proyects doesn't work anymore, they appear empty. Any help please? thanks!

VC_ORB seems to no longer work with AE on Catalina. Dragging the plugin onto the composition shows a circle with a line through it.. meaning its an illegal move!

I've a question, in the video shows (minute 13:59) that the 'earth cloud' should be used with the effect 'Extract', but when I search for it the program show me only 'EXtractoR' (it is in the section '3D channel'

Hi Guys! Could anyone help me understand something. I'm new in the AE and I tried to put something on the orbit of that orb. Took a 3d model and I had two problems.
1. comp I made before with Element 3d of my object that was now pasted into orb timeline don't want to behave like 3d object...and doesn't have access to Element settings from the orb timeline.
2. When I decided to create the object again but now directly on the orb timeline it is 3d but the problem is I cannot make it orbiting the orb using null. It rotates around itself instead orbiting the orb. What's even more interesting is when I want to rotate just the camera I am having issues with visibility of the object behind the orb. When it's over orb in timeline it does'n hide and when I put it under it's just a shadow when passing the orb. Anybody tried it or maybe I was expected to much from this pluginn?

Glow only seems to work internally, not externally. Has anyone figured out why this happens? I've been trying to sort it for hours now. Is he using a different glow effect or what??

Hey Video Copilot Team, First, wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving in 2020. I am enjoying your VC Orb plug-in for creating an Ultra Earth in 3D but after completing the tutorial, I am left with a seem on the Earth orb. What is the solution to fix this. I have played around with the maps and even the UV offsets but no success. Please if you could give some direction.

When creating the "blue haze"...I have everything set identical to your settings in the tutorial and I have a "shadow" on the side where the parallel light is...what am I missing?

Hi, my name is Ráfaga and I'm from Brazil. I've been trying to do the orb plugin step by step but I'm not getting an effective result. I do the whole process until the moment of inserting the color, but it only colors on the bottom of the sphere and where the light on the top hits. there’s a strip in the middle without coloring and I don’t know what to do. I'm following everything as it is in the video. could you help me?

The bump influence isn't working for me. In the tutorial, at around 16:45 Andrew decreased the Bump Influence and that made the clouds puffy. But When I did it, there was no change. The clouds remain plastic with hard edges. Any idea why this might be happening?

import blender scene to after effects;
if you create these scene in 3d application blender and composite it in after effects the process will be bit more simple flexible.

Great plugin! Thank you! I started my composition at 7 secs and then after creating everything decided to extend it to 20 secs. Everything works except for my Cloud and Cloud Shadow solid layers. They cut out at 7 secs. Any guesses as to why? and maybe how I could fix it without having to recreate everything again?

VC Orb was working great......but something happened, and now it is more like "VC Egg" - it only makes an egg-shaped thing now. Is there a setting I accidentally messed with that would do this? Should I reinstall it? (If so, how do I deinstall it?) Thanks!

For those who are having trouble with the textures either not appearing on the orb, After Effects crashing, or the light not working I would advise using lower res versions of the 6K textures. I was having the same exact same issues until I converted the images into lower resolutions. Everything worked perfectly after that.

Trying to follow the video but when I put my preview on full it looks like there's no textures applied at all it shows just a plain orb. Not sure if the because the textures are just too large for my system to handle or what. Any thoughts??

With using your optical flares...how can you get a sunrise right on the edge of the planet? I'm finding the foreground switch is cutting off the 'sun' too early.

I tried to work on 4K resolution with the orb size of 400. Textures loaded, and everything started to lag. Camera rotation tool freezes AE

Incredible Tutorial, I have been able to do it with some little difference cos like some others I couldn't configure the Atmosphere as you did; or actually with the same identical configurations the result is not even close to yours.
Therefore, I use other ways to reach approximately the same result.

Having trouble with the Atmosphere portion of the tutorial I have tried going through step by step multiple times with the same result. the blue dose not look like a radial map but a liner. What can I do to fix this issue

Great tutorial except I kept getting lost with all the tangents and nothing I ever do turns out the way you do them. With all the distractions and rapidly going through it I get frustrated and quit. Do you have any tutorials where you slow down?

The only thing I did differently to test it out was instead of attaching the star map to the diffuse layer with "unlit only", I attached it to the illumination layer and illuminated it with white light. I was able to get pretty realistic-looking stars without the blurriness that comes with the texture.

I'm following the tutorial step by step, but when I zoom into the composition, all of the Earth layers are very pixelated. It looks nothing like your tutorial.
I'd love to fix this, but I don't know how. I am using SLI Nvidia Geforce Titan X cards. The images look great in other programs, but once they're applied to Orb, they become pixelated and unusable.
Any suggestions?

There is a new problem, After Effects 2019 apparently is not supporting OpenCL any more or Apple isn't or something. The past solution to the "OpenCl missing from your hardware," do not work with After Effects 2019. In fact the Orb Plugin works fine with 2018, and only gets the error in 2019. And yes I have tried everything from the preferences settings, to updating my graphics cards drivers etc etc. Yours is not the only plugin that is affected. many Red Giant Plugins are affected too. Will there be a version of this fantastic plugin that will be compatible with AE 2019?

Hi there! First of all thank you Andrew for your awesome tutorial and your hard work toward the community. I would like to ask are these textures available in 16k somewhere? I am creating an animation where the camera is going very close to the atmosphere, and i am facing a lot of quality losses with the provided textures in this project file. Or is there a trick how to NOT lose quality when im getting closer? Thank you

Having an issue here with the orb plugin and an AE version 16.1.2 running on Windows 10 Pro. Once I add maps to the orb plugin I cannot save the AEP file. On saving AE crashes. Before adding maps to the plugin I can save without problems.
Might be a version bug, havent tried it on an older version yet.

Anyone know how you would make a moon orbit a planet? Currently I'm just animating the position of the VC Orb effect to go around my other object, but I know there's got to be a better way.

We're also experiencing errors while trying to use this plug-in on two of our machines.
One machine has an Intel Xeon E5 2670 v2 10-Core CPU with 2x Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cards and the error message is "VC Orb failed to initialize with Error: wglCreateContext not available".
The second machine has an Intel Xeon E5 2687W v3 10-Core CPU with 2x Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cards and the error message is "VC Orb failed to initialize with Error: no OpenCL platforms available".
We have no problem using the plug-in on two other machines with very similar setups: Intel Xeon Gold 6128 6-Core CPUs with 2x Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cards.
It would be great to get this working on all of our machines, so any help would be a big help. Thanks!

hmm I used this plugin last year for a nice project.. now I want to use it again for the same project (opening an older project), but the plugin does nog work anymore with my new PC.
I have AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X 16core. With a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. I get an error opening the project saying: "no OpenCL platforms Available" .. I also have Element3D and Saber etc, and they don't have any issues with my new setup.. What can I do to let this work?

My after effects goes in Not responding state, when I drag the VC Orb effect into the solid layer.

hi guys, im having a bit of an issue, it was never explained how to track the movement to where the lights illuminated as it fell into the earths shadow, is this another tutorial? basically got the model complete and the camera movement down...now i just need to know how to create the realistic look of the earths shadow moving and illuminating the lights. any suggestions?

Hi, I was using the diffuse map. After mapping, orb has gone blank. Any suggestion.I'm using Geforce 1060 6 GB card with CUDA and Mercury CUDA as well. Also color depth to 32-bit bpc.

@developers - You might need to take a look into the new AE 19' Update, the plugin crashing while draging the orb plugin to a solid layer :/

Not sure if it helps but I had an issue with the diffuse map also. I moved the light source around a bit and it actually fixed it. Updated the graphics card driver also just to be sure.

AMD Threadripper, Intel Optane Drive with duel RTX 2080 cards......brand new machine custom build less than 6 weeks old, ORB Will not work keep getting the error message about NO CL support. Any help with this issue as colleague and I want to use ORB on a job. Thanks in advance Mark

So here's the thing. I created my comp with the orb plugin at 1080p but I now need to upscale it to 8k, the process isn't as easy as I thought, the camera seems be off once I change the comp size. Any ideas?

im not to sure what the issue is but when i map a diffuse layer the orb just vanishes. if i make the diffuse blend 0.00 the white orb is still there. im guessing its not reading the texture right due to some setting possabily but cant seem o find the issue

I have a problem. When creating a layer with a solid for instance a rectangle and I double-click on your plug-in, I have the mistake:

I have a problem. When creating a layer with a solid for instance a rectangle and I double-click on your plug-in, I have the mistake:

Great plugin.
Only when I try to use a texture in the diffuse layer, it completely stretches the texture out. So there is only horizantal ring type pattern. Can anybody please advice on how to solve this?

Hi all, Thanks for the tut Andrew. I'm having the same problem as some of the others here. As soon as I load the 4k Jpeg into the diffuse layer the orb disappears and I'm left with a Black screen. Please advise.

The only problem I'm having (so far) is that changing the Shadow/Light option makes the lights disappear everywhere, not just on the side without shadows. Any ideas about that?
Also, on Mac, I've been able to figure out how holding Control and dragging quick switches between Unified Camera and Track Z, but how does he do so to Track XY?

Thank you for this amazing new plugin, without it i wouldn't be able to create such an amazing planet as i have done. All the settings really improves making planet and space scenes.

Great work Andy. You're one of the reasons I'm grateful I came in this generation.
For those talking about the light affecting one half, you need to attach the light to a null object and animate the null along the motion path. It was shown in the tutorial video but wasn't said. And shouldn't be cos we ought to be advanced students already.

Great tut as usual! Is there any way we can get the cloud cover to hide the city lights? The cloud cover at the moment is only influencing the one half of the planet.

First off, this plugin is super cool. The problem I'm currently having is that the illumination is only showing up in the shadows.

I encountered the BK out error on Diffuse layer selection with cs6 win7.
Viewing the advice of former post,I could solve it with updating NVIDIA driver.

In my case, either 4k, 2k and 1.5k image brings BK out error on 'diffuse layer' selection.
all low-resolution images are converted from the original.
It appears on both cs6 and cc2015 win7 I tested.
Is there any bugs or my fault?

It seems anything past a 2k image on my computer will cause the diffuse to turn black and crash. Worked fine with smaller jpegs but large ones turn eh layer black and cause After effects to stop functioning.

Any chance you'd be willing to post the project file for the trailer? I noticed some other techniques I was curious how you pulled off; like more bits of atmosphere and galaxy clouds. Was it Trapcode Particular, Fractal Noise, stock imagery, all of the above?

For those who having problem of disappearing the globe after select the planet_4k on diffuse and using nVIDIA -FORCE graphics card, just go to the below link and update the appropriate driver...! https://www.nvidia.in/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-in

Same problem even after the reinstall the NVidia GEFORCE driver.

The whole thing runs on a GTX960 (4GB) under CS6 on WIN7 Prof.
So far so good. Of course it takes while rendering but the plug-in is fun.
I have only one strange phenomenon. If I go through the exact tutorial, then the maps in the animation flicker after the calculation.
Whether those are the clouds that I have set as Andrew. I do not understand why that happens. In the video at 26:45 is suddenly another Adjust layer 5 available. What I do not understand at all is, if I press with the camera symbol (key C) I can turn various things. But what does not work that the axis of the earth turns? What am I doing wrong here? It's just a trifle, but I can not believe that only the earth turns as an object .. I would be very happy if someone could give me a tip. Many Thanks.

can anyone share some insight in how to have something like an arching airline route from one point to another? I've tried putting 3d objects and lines in a comp and using that as a map, but it gets flattened on the orb.... do you know of a way?

Famous issue when setting the Difuse layer to Planet 4K. Everything become black. Finally I foud a solution.
First of all I've updated my NVidia driver to the latest version. I came back to after effect and always the same. But after purging All Memery and disk cache, it worked.

I have load the new orb plugin (v 1.02),
but it doesn’t works.
I start After Effects, create a new project and a new comp.
In the comp i load the image files (Earth,….)
Also i create a new solid in this comp and drop the Orb plugin on it.
If i load a jpg or other file (tga, tiff,….) in the diffuse color slot in Orb,
the Orb in the viewport dissapears.
My After Effects version is: 15.1.2 Build 69

Anyone with a problem where the plug in freezes? Import 6k textures and after a few tweaks it just freezes. Can move all options but nothing happens. I even delete the layer and plugin and still i get a freezed frame.

For those having issues with the orb disappearing when applying the diffuse map, update your video card driver. Once I did that, it worked fine for me.

First off, this plugin is super cool. The problem I'm currently having is that the illumination is only showing up in the shadows. You might think that's what you want but I want to be able to make that atmospheric sort of look that you made with the fresnel. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

I'm following your tutorial (which is amazing!), however once I load the Map into the diffuse layer, the orb goes dark. I'm using AE CS6.

Thank you for the Plug-in!! There seems to be an issue trying to get the Haze effect. The Shadow/Light does not behave the same way you show. It goes completely dark. Once it does nothing else can be don on that layer. I deleted the Haze layer and started again just to get the same issue right when moving the Shadow/Light values. I have an iMac 5k 27in 16GB ram. AECC 15.1.2 (Build 69).

Okay, we want this earth to be very realistic, let's do a quick search for Earth diameter kilometers. 12,742 kilometers okay, and uh we'll just set the radius uh.. we'll just leave it at 200. LOL

Thanks for another great tutorial, Andrew. If you ever find a moment, you might want to add a bit to this that keeps faint cloud cover over the dark side of the orb. The clouds don't go away just because it's nighttime. They would still prevent many of those city lights from being seen from space. Unless you have the special Star Wars and Star Trek night vision tools of course. But not all aliens or super heros have those.
