Hey guys!

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted! I've been tucked away working on all sorts of things!

Here is the thing: As some of you may know, I'm currently working at Bad Robot on a certain film that I can't really talk about. Believe me it is a dream come true, so I've really had to focus!

So it's been tricky to explain what I've been up to and why, since I can't really say exactly... yet. But I know I need to do a better job of keeping you guys updated!

My Intercept short film is coming alongbut because of the demands of mystudio work I've been finishing the VFX at night and weekends and it's been hard becauseI'm trying to do some bigger visual FX than usual.

So... I know I owe you guys some awesomestuff, as soon asthings cool downin about a month. I will be making it up to you guys with some cool Free Plug-ins (3 almost finished), some insane tutorials and of course my Short film that I'm excited to release!

Believe me, I understand the frustration some of you are feeling, I get it! I'm putting everything I have into my work and I don't want to just throw things together just to be done.

I started Video Copilot because I love creating visual effects and design and now that I'm in the middle of some incredibleprojects, I've beenpushing myself ever more. My plan is tobe able to share all of the challenges and solutions from this experience and continue to help everyone get better, including myself and I hope that will make Video Copilot be even better!

I have always told my own staff, family first & work second. We are privileged to have such talent accessible at ZERO COST in the form of tutorials. To be perfectly honest, most definitely worth paying for Andrew's time and talent. We are so damn fortunate to have a Hollywood insider giving us direct access to the best in creativity.

Guys calm down. Andrew clearly has demand in Hollywood so it's no surprise he's not active on here as much, but that's perfectly fine. After all, we all try to chase our own goals, what he gives is more than enough, if he wanted he could charge for these tutorials, heck they're better than most courses I have purchased!!! Great job Andrew, I'm glad you don't forget where you began.

It really breaks my heart to see VC being abandoned like this. I have so many of their products that I use regularly and love them all. 4 months with nothing proves this is a one man show.

I don't think Andrew is abandoning VC. You have to remember that VC isn't his full-time, only-time job. They guy has a lot of skills and experience and getting any type of education from him or anyone of his caliber is a privilege and not a right. Cut 'em some slack... It will be interesting to see what he did on Star Wars and the Intercept short he's been working on.

Hey man,
I just finished a minor in Historical Documentary Filmmaking at Liberty University and I am hooked on all aspects of the process especially editing! My professor suggested this website to me when I was needing help with making a travel map and man did u deliver! Looking forward to watching ur videos and picking up some more skills.

Let's give Andrew the rest of the year off. Things may finally be slowing down at Bad Robot (a little), but I'm sure Andrew has to catch up on a ton of family stuff.

Since I... like Andrew...am also married with a family... I can guarantee you that he is in big trouble for not having the family Christmas / Holiday card done. Even more so than last year, when he used Bank Gothic for the font. He's going to have to quickly get that done and I'm sure he hasn't had time to do any Christmas shopping or other family holiday stuff.

Video Copilot has added more value than any plugin company or tutorial site that I can think of and has impacted the film industry significantly. The products, tutorials and great customer support are still here. Let's all just chill out, enjoy Star Wars and be grateful for what Andrew has provided to us in the form of inspiration, education and community.

So Andrew ... get that family holiday card done. I know that the "but I've been working on Star Wars card" got used up three weeks ago.

I will guess the following: 1) AK brought his A game to Bad Robots and his inputs are so valuable that JJ made some awesome recommendations to let AK take the lead on some scenes (editing of course). 2) Some of VC products have been used in Star Wars - E3D, OF, to say the least. 3) Here's the scary thought...AK will sell VC to Motion Array (or another company). He will join Bad Robots permanently because JJ knows there are not that many skillful and dedicated professionals like AK out there. Let's admit it guys, AK is simply awesome. I am just saying....By the way, Happy Holiday to all the fans...Expect some awesome free stuffs from our tutor, our master, our model, and our friend AK. We can dig it!

Wow, a ton of comments here. I honestly haven't really been to the site since Andrew posted this back in September, except for the forum once or twice. Everyone misses him and that's great - the fishing rod comment is the best one though. AK is broadening his career and I'd just wish him well. He's been a super teacher. Soon enough, we will probably hear about him directing a feature film. My hats off to the gentleman.

Manuprasad, looks pretty good from a technical standpoint. Don't forget that FX should serve the story. I'm not clear on the story here. If you included a shot of the girl pilot in a picture frame when the guy wakes up, like a girlfriend or something, the story would instantly have more weight. Like somehow implying that this girl was going to take you and your friends down. I'd like to see what you come up with next.

ALRIGHT!Finally (Did not know you had to login) to get your post published. Ok so, to all those impatient people posting negative messages: instead of whining, try to be creative with the knowledge that Andrew shared with us. I'm sure that most among you just copy what Andrew teaches in his tutorials. With these tutorials, you could do so much if you're not too lazy to experiment. Agreed, this should not happen (complete silence for 3 months) but I'm sure there's a good reason. If I were Andrew, I would stop sharing all my knowledge for free to all you ungrateful bums! Although I'm sure that, the good soul that he is, Andrew would never to that. He loves sharing. Anyway, Be grateful for the knowledge you have received so far and start working on it for once!

Very true. 9/10 of what people here share on youtube is a cut and paste of the tutorials. There are hundreds of hours worth of good material here to learn yet somehow people can't seem to adapt it to their own original work, and then complain that there isn't enough here. Kramer's super busy and does the tutorials for free. Absurd that people actually get mad at him for "abandoning" them. And 'arijimi' is one to talk. Has nothing to contribute and takes out aggression for lacking creativity and ability to adapt by whining at Kramer and other users. People can be really crappy sometimes.

I am a great fan of your inspiring person Andrew, your website and your products but all of a sudden you dissapear and let your faithful fans/customers alone in the twilight zone and that for month? Not so good.

Hey guys, I'm really not the kind of guy spending his life leaving comments on blogs all day, but I still think some of us need to cool the F*** down and look at themselves. Just once. I've been following VC from the very beginning and I learnt A LOT here. But VC won't teach you patience, (un)fortunately, this is something some need to learn on their own.
A lot of people take VC content as something due. It's not. Tutorials are like fishes. Give one to a man and he'll eat for a day. Give him a fishing rod and he'll eat for his life.

With Element 3D, we've all received that fishing rod. I agree both with both Wayne Heywood and Bill. There's WAY ENOUGH to do while Daddy Andrew's away. Perfect your skills, your ideas, learn more. Push yourself further and harder. Learn to work with cameras, combine skills. Think of a VFX scene not as a little youtube video you'll swag about but as a fraction of a whole. And do it.

Some behave like capricious children who can't live without a new toy each day. Just grow up. How many of you use Element 3D each day as a tool at work among others? If you did, then you'd understand that working in that field means having A LOT to do. Not only doing VFX on after effects, but planning, admin crap you hate to do, phonecalls etc. And the list goes on.

You can stop breathing as long as you want, but in the end you'll have to wait. So use that time and do great things instead of being ungrateful. And if you really need to stomp your feet with frustration, then... make a movie about it. It'll keep you busy.

Definitely not hating, just sharing the same concerns as many others. Many of us use these tools on a daily basis, so to not have any update in the last three months from the company that produces those tool is a little discouraging.

Not every post/update needs to be one that gives us new tutorials or free stuff or whatever. We just need communication that the company is actually, literally, still a thing. Andrew wasn't running VC as a one man job, so is he the only one allowed to make statements??

The last 2 emails i've sent to support over the past few weeks have gone unanswered. I've always been super impressed with VC's customer support, but now im getting worried. No updates about anything, no responses from support. Guys, these are all problems that are literally so easy to fix. You can't run a successful business, give us amazing tools that we use in our own jobs, and then just drop off the face of the Earth and not say anything about it.

Word up! Video Copilot isn't for entertainment, but it is an awesome resource. I noticed that a lot of members of the Film Riot community actually post really great stuff every once in a while. That's not really the case over here... Make something top level in After Effects and post a link here!

Wayne.. respectfully your assumption that any of our criticism/comments of VC defines us as "Haters" is frankly more "over the top" than any of the concerns we have regarding VC. Personally I do post production/effects for a living.. each and everyday.. I have been for over 33 years. For me and most of us, this isn't about AK and his success, or him getting his dream job. I'm right here with EVERYONE saying congrats. I went to see AK at NAB just to see the man, hear his views, and left being a bigger fan than I was. This IS about a software/plugin company that I have invested in, both by the purchase of their products but more importantly investment of my time learning and using their products. Imagine if RED Giant, Imagineer, or Boris just dropped off the planet after their customers had paid for their software, made the same commitment of time learning their products, only to have the company go dark. You have to agree that isn't a good business model. Video Copilot isn't a "hobby".. it's a business.. and while I'm positive AK will be back.. and he will bring with him some wonderful tutorials.. for me I'm looking for some of the things that were told we'd have quite a long while ago.. more model packs.. other small plugins that were being worked on. So please Wayne, don't confuse "haters" with people that are concerned, and frankly have the right to be based on their purchases and time investment of VC products.

Due to your insightful post in reply to my comment, I should also assume that even though it wasn't you I was referring to, you decided to stick your oar in where it wasn't even required! You used the word 'respectfully' at the beginning, then 'respectfully' accused ME of being the one who is confused.

I also follow VC and own many VC products. I too believe that once Andrew is back on the scene, we will see more tutorials and more products, I never said otherwise.

Andrew won't return until December 18th. Once Star Wars is released He'll come back and release a ton of cool stuff reflective of the work he's done on Star Wars. Very smart. Releasing cool stuff after Star Wars will probably generate a million views

The film is completed. They would not be editing it up to the day before release anyway.
The film has already been viewed by test audiences. It is simply on the promotional trail now.

Do you know how many vfx work on a heavy vfx movie? Over 500, I'm pretty sure if Andrew left they wouldn't fall behind the deadline. He's most likely doing the title sequence, but the title sequence is just text scrawl. So idk, but they still have over 500 people working on this.

While I completely understand that Andrew is a very busy man with both work and family life, it is a real shame that support and updates on here are dwindling. I imagine Videocopilot as a business does well and generates a decent cashflow, so hiring someone dedicated to this site and it's content would make a lot of sense.

It's the same old story. Create something, get loads of followers, get bigger, get famous, crap on the followers by leaving them behind.

VC was for a community, now it seems that the priorities are no longer with us, but with life long dreams that don't include the people who helped VC become what it is today.

I get you're upset Andrew didn't post anything lately, but let's think about it for a minute. He is working on Star Wars. Like actually doing what he dreamed of since he started playing in After Effects. Like getting paid for it. He is probably working his ass off 12/24 7 days a week so that the film can be ready at it's deadline. He simply hasn't got time to work on Intercept, on more tutorials or to post updates on the blog.

If you are a true fan and a member of the VC community, support him. Be happy that he actually got to do what he always wanted. Be patient. Let him finish his job. Don't accuse him of things he hasn't done (like crapping on the followers, leaving them behind).

As soon as his work will be done and as soon as his contract will allow him, he will update the website with new stuff.

And let's not forget that all the tutorials are free, you did not pay anything for them, ever. They were all a gift from him to you, he doesn't owe you anything - you owe him your respect.

Some respect is hard to find on this blog. I can understand the frustration that comes with the temporary absence of Mr. Andrew Kramer. But instead of complaining, whining and insulting, many of you should spend some time on building their own projects using the knowledge that Andrew so generously handed. I think many people here just copy what Andrew shows in his tutorials, nothing more. With the knowledge he has shared until today, one can be limitless creative. Try that for once instead of spending time demanding deals, tutorials.. now, now! NOW!! I am deeply ashamed and shocked by many of you whether you like it or not.

i agree, if one's goal is to do this stuff for a living you need originality and good problem solving skills.

as far as the absence of Mr.Kramer there must be more to it than "a lot of work" life throws some curves at people.
being busy and not being able to take 1 minute to update things seems a bit unreallistic. anyway whatever the problem is i hope its going be ok .

Actually, you didn't. Scroll alllllll the way to the top of the page and see that Andrew SAID he was working on something pretty big for Bad Robot so uh, as that's pretty much Star Wars... it doesn't take a genius super sleuth to figure that out. Unless they have him working on Trek 3, which is also a possibility. Cool, hope your work for Star Wars is fun. Hope everybody here understands that this needs to come first. In the long run it would be cool if you had an associate/partner/employee who could keep managing the site a bit. YES, he started this out of his own interest and provides tons of free tutorials and materials, BUT...when you are selling products as well there is a certain amount of responsibility to your customer base. Yea totally. Great idea of having stuff from the people that help build the plugins and motion graphics elements. I'm sure they have TONS to share. Even if its just quick 3 minute videos on what part they played in development and how it came together. ANYTHING!

It makes sense that he should hire someone to take care of this delay......but guys common, give him and his team a little break this time. Just a suggestion and hopefully my fellow nerds will back me up here. With star wars coming out soon, it's simple but do you think you could shed some pearls of wisdom on the subject of creating a "going to lightspeed" hyperdrive effect from star wars. New or old, either is good.

Plus...Doctor Who. Don't know whether you're aware of it? If you are then, I just wondered how You would make things like the time vortex or a regeneration energy stream.

Dudes! You should all just relax...Andrew Kramer is a very busy guy...he's got a family...I think that just the fact that he still takes the time to generously record new tutorials for us regularly and give us plug-ins and tips and most importantly teach us from his extensive knowledge shows how great a guy he is.
We are learning from the best in the biz so everybody just take a chill pill and wait for the man to be done with his actual real world responsibilities like his job and family.
I for one, look forward to seeing his new tutorial and I am sure it will be awesome as always...till then peace everybody.

Movies are shipped via hard drive these days. As long as the final copies are finished by the 13th, copied 3,000+ times and shipped overnight, the projectionist will have plenty of time to calibrate the movie with the projector and sound system before midnight showings.

Whatever Andrew works on from stars wars visual fx to titles or some lenses flares motion graphics absolutely have many knowledge for After Effects users and I hope everyone learns from Andrew. He is really professional in his work!

How is he neglecting his core business? There is a dedicated support team on videocopilot ready for any tech support. There has been a major update to Element 3D recently done by his programmers. Just because Andrew hasn't been able to provide FREE tutorials recently doesn't mean that you are entitled to whine about them.

You realize that Andrew himself doesn't create the models in his 3D packs right? He has a team that creates them. Or he hires freelancers to create them. The company founder doesn't create every single pack alone. Because that's how a successful business is run. There have been longer periods between past Videocopilot products. You're a whiner.

I hope Andrew might consider this idea, in the past, he used to do quick 5 minute type tuts. It might be an idea if he does a load and store them and that way he can have continuity on the tutorials page while he gets ultra busy, and fire those up.

I am looking forward to his next tutorial, and seeing how he contributed to major movie projects.

I'm sure AK will update the site again from time to time... But once you step into the big arena, contract after contract will follow. This happened with Star Trek, and now Star Wars, and a lot more will follow.. So I don't think we will see thesame VC again as we know it. Yes there will be updates, software and tutorials, but never on the regular basis of what we're use to...

Thanks to Andrew I am where I am today. Enjoying making video's with awesome visual effects. To maybe one day make something so significant it can reach lots of people and make a name for myself. Andrew has earned that spot by putting in years of hard work and sharing his knowledge with us along the way. I am thankful for that because who knows I could be washing dishes in some shady restaurant's kitchen right now. Let us not forget that Andrew, apart from bringing us amazing content that inspires through this site as well as in motion pictures and personal works, also has a family. Those who truly deserve the lion's share of his time. I for one understand the pressures of having a full time job, while still wanting to create and film and at the same time be present for my wife and kids. I personally have to thank Andrew for the efforts he had put forward so far into the Video Copilot site, products and tutorials. They have all collectively inspired me, teased me and, mostly, motivated me to develop my skills in the FX arena. While I never hope to aspire to the heights Mr. Kramer has already climbed, my amateur efforts are all the better for it. So, if nobody has said it already... "Thank you!" Obviously, when a big project comes along, jump on it! Let us know how it turns out. I think I speak for everyone when I say we are all waiting with bated breath.

I see a whole lot of 'spoilt brat' posts here. Let me remind you:

1 Andrew Krammer has been posting his hard earned knowledge for free for years. He could have kept it to himself but he did't. So, say thank you Andrew.

2 If you are like me, VC FREE tutorials have improved my design knowledge ten fold. Thanks Andrew

3. If you are like me also, you use VC products in your job, therefore making it quicker and easier. These products were produced by a motion artist for motion artists at prices so competitive, even the lowliest designer could afford them. Say thank you again.

4. Last but not least, AK has just had the opportunity of a lifetime to work on what would be for most a dream come true job. When he gets back, I am guessing, once again you will all be getting the benefit of his now ramped up experience. When he gets back, you might want to congratulate him and thank him one more time.

The amount of effort that has gone into Video Copilot has been staggering and at times, I am guessing, a thankless task.
Stop #%&!ing about the absence, if you spent less time moaning and more time working on your skills, you would be a whole lot better off.

Couldn't agree more. Like everyone else here, I chaeck in a couple times a week to see if there's anything new, but if this site were never updated again it would still stand as one of the greatest resources on the internet for learning AfterEffects, and would remain unparralleled on title design for years to come. Typically, you have to pay real money and no small amount of it to get a fraction of the accumulated knowledge from professionals who don't have half the resume Andrew does (I'm trying to think if I could have worded that any more confusingly).

While everyone (myself included) waits patiently for Andrew to return, I started thinking on possible tutorials and what in store for us not only as fans of his work, but fans of creativity and taking our after effects skills to another level. Then, as I watched the final Star Wars: The Force Awaken's trailer, I noticed the villains cross hilt light saber - it wasn't a normal light blade (standard AE preset), upon closer inspection the blade actually had a flaming look to it, like a sun contained within the blade. I wonder if Andrew had anything to do with that flaming light saber effect and if he has a tutorial prepared for us to accomplish that feat?

I think that would be the realm of ILM or whatever other effects company is working on it. If anything, I think that Andrew probably worked on the displays during that scene with Han with the new cast in the trailer, and possibly something like the Hyperspace effect.

It'll be interesting to see if we can spot what he might have done when the film comes out.

I'm no less frustrated than anyone else, but that's because we are all expecting something good. Good takes time, especially when it's a side project. I wouldn't expect it to come out until the end of the year or the start of the next.

I for one can't wait for the film but mostly I look forward to the knowledge shared from the experience, which without a doubt will be very rewarding.

Great things come to those who wait. Patience is the way of the Force. Anger, frustration, expecting things to happen quickly for your own benefit... this is the way of the dark side.

Bill, I have to agree with your assessment of the situation at Videocopilot. I personally have been a fan since Andrew posted his original sky replacement tutorial that opened up a whole new world of possibilities with After Effects for me. However, besides being a fan, I am a customer too. And, like you, have purchased many of VC's products for my work and personal use. During the last five months, I have been coming here only to be disappointed at the lack of attention given to the site and its fans, forcing me at least, to search out other sites for anything I can use and learn from. Unfortunately, what's out there is of no comparison to VC. Andrew had set the bar high, and with that our expectations too. So there is really nothing to do but sit and wait. I really do wish Andrew all the best with his endeavors, and wish him much success, he definitely deserves it. However, I am afraid from what we have this last 5 months his success could mean the death of VC as we know it. That would truly be a shame.

I?m another long term user of VC products that visits this blog regularly, and totally agree with what has been said most recently, especially with the comments and well wishes for Andrew, as he genuinely deserves the rewards. Hell, who wouldn?t jump at the chance to work on great movie productions given the chance, it would be like a dream come true for most of us. However, it?s the comments that have been made with regards to the business side of VC, and which I also totally agree with which gives me the greatest of concerns!

I use the aforementioned products both professionally and personally and on projects that use the techniques of which are described in Andrews?s tutorials, not the actual themes themselves. For example, whilst it?s great and fun to be able to replicate a city in apocalyptic times, it would be much more useful to me to have a detailed insight to the full workflow to get a meaningful textured mesh from C4D and comped into an AE project with Element, and with all of the textures, lighting, shadows and details looking correct and rendering out from AE correctly, without having to spend many hours playing with all of the many settings in C4D, AE and Element, only to find that you are making it look worse and then reverting to old school techniques of exporting and manually comping many C4D renders to get it looking right. It is often the little nuances and tips that one picks up from Andrews tutorials that are the most valuable, especially when he covers the full workflow, and something I also would be willing to pay for if it were available.

Over the years my day job has been that of a creative product specialist for broadcast manufacturers, involving both hardware and software, and which involved helping clients get the very best from their purchases in both their workflow and creativity through training and support. Being part of the business gave me great first hand and unique knowledge into the working of the products, so I was in the very best place to learn and pass on that knowledge to our clients, especially with new products with new features. Sadly and with economic considerations, increasingly the creative part is now often seen as ?Not our responsibility? as we make tech not content, and this area is then seen as a low priority.

VC is a business and not purely a free resource. It charges for its products and offers free support technically which it is obliged to do however, in the past it has also offered great free creative support and which I believe has contributed in a big way to VC?s and Andrews?s success.

When I purchased the many products from VC, I was buying into products and a service that had a known and high level of creative support. Yes, what VC charges is great value, but they are still charging real money, and what you pay is all relative to what each and every one of us earns, but the service should remain consistent, even if it means you have to start charging for the extras.

Maybe it?s time VC revisited their own company profile page and reviewed their own goals.

The same thing happens to be an issue in the normal 3D graphics world...some plug-ins, even popular ones that grow a large user base go out of development...people can't sell the assurance that they will always be there for you...how could that even be a thing?...

Gotta push on making cool creative stuff, and hope that Adobe doesn't decide to pull CC off of the cloud...because hey, that could happen too.

I'm not sure that Kramer envisioned that the community built around Video Copilot would grow to angrily depend on his perpetual presence...

In response to Wally, yes I did get what I paid for in that I have a very cool plugin for AE and to date, I can truly say that it works without any known issues for me, and kudos to the design team there

Technically the support is great and I have had a superb service from VC when I have had issues (only with licencing), and I note that they are still releasing updates, the last on the 7th October and again, great work there

My point and concern and one that has been made by others, is to what the future holds for VC as a business now that AK has ?deservedly? taken another path, or at least for the foreseeable future?

In the past when VC has launched new products, these have been accompanied by tutorials to help guide users though their meaningful use and to fully explain new features and how to use them, and learn from the master without having to wade through on-line help pages and rely on hours/days/weeks of trial and error.

With the latest release though, it is this ?Creative Support? that hasn?t happened and I fully understand why however, I feel and I know I?m not alone in that it has been a long time since AK?s creative input and an input that may be a very long time coming if at all, and also feel that he should look into passing the tutorial role to someone else and to let go. Granted, it wouldn?t be AK, but there are great people out there and some other pro (even if they have to be trained up) that is an E3D guru would be better than none, and to keep the VC entity alive.

I suppose my only disappointment stems from expectations, and expectations based on previous VC products and their support creatively from Andrew. I feel that I bought into a brand experience as a paying customer, and that that brand experience is no longer being delivered, but there is genuinely more to it than just personal expectations and want.

I believe that Andrew has and shows true passion for his craft and like many of us, I guess he would long to stay involved with what he does at the physical creative end for perpetuity however, whilst he has mastered his art and continues to grow he?s in his prime employment years which means he is desirable, both as a creative specialist and a person, and who wouldn?t want him on their team.

But there is one element of life we can?t change and that is time, and whilst it may be a way off for him at the moment, there will come a time that despite the personality, the skills and dedication, as an older person one just doesn?t appeal to employers or contractors, as they are looking for the next person in their prime and with runway and appeal to a younger audience and/or the team?s dynamics. This sadly is the reality of the present modern world.

This is the proportionate norm with very few exceptions, especially in the creative industries, and I speak from experience as someone that has been there working on high end productions, presenting at big events etc., as well as an observer, teacher and associate of many others, that have also suffered the same fate!

On a final note, I guess that AK doesn?t get the time to read through all the entries on the blog, but if I could offer any advice, and this genuinely comes from the heart not the want, it would be ?Don?t to let VC die through neglect of its user and customer base?, but to let it evolve with new talent and new and updated products, as in time, you may be glad that you have something else to return to and where you have control and can still be actively and commercially involved with what you love to do.

I check this site everyday hoping that when I click on the blog tab I don't see Bruce and his lighter. VC should be paying Zippo royalties by now. Then I start to think is VC only one man? one mind? Are there others within VC that could be developing tutorials to help us better use this wonderful plugin? And if the success of this new feature film that Andrew is working on comes to fruition as I'm sure it will... what happens moving forward.. what happens when his time is even more consumed with "outside" projects? Don't get me wrong, I fully support whatever he does with his enormous talent. I was at NAB this year and enjoyed his presentation at the Adobe booth.. Rockstar comes to mind, throngs of people after waiting for a selfie with him. Frankly Amazing. Anyway I just wonder given his success and most deservedly so, if there shouldn't be plans for others to take over the education/tutorial reigns so to speak. I truly love VC's products, I own most of them, and will continue to support them. 2.2 is my go to software for many projects and anytime I can learn something I hadn't thought of is a game changer for me. I only hope that what made VC so special doesn't get lost in the deserved success of AK.

I agree. Short of After Effects itself, Videocopilot has been the best thing to happen in making motion graphics possible for the masses. It would be a huge shame for it to die out. There's plenty of opportunity here for Andrew to leave a legacy and hopefully contribute those extra special tutorials and features when he has time.

Bill, I'm in total agreement and said the exact same thing about 2 months ago, maybe even longer. I feel the ones that pop up on here saying "leave him alone he is working on star wars" fail to see the bigger picture. I heard a rumor (although unconfirmed) they have already started filming the next starwars episode which means it could be MONTHS before he will have the time to be back here. When you break down the elements of how long he has already been gone its all unfathomable nobody at VC are filling his shoes, not even with a written update.

Heck we haven?t even seen ?Official? releases of the 2.2.1 & 2.2.2 Updates. But they are out there and without even a heads up to the members. They are left to be just? stumbled upon.

I?m in total agreement; it?s only going to get worse as he WILL be offered higher profile paying projects which makes you wonder what?s going to happen to Video Copilot in the coming years.

I in no way believe that VC is going away or that a new and improved Element won't happen in the future. Having owed and operated a post production business for over 30 years in a very collaborative environment, and now working at home on my own, the largest disadvantage for me now is not having others around you sharing techniques, ideas, and processes. Most especially very talented creative minds such as Andrew's, as i'm sure Andrew is experiencing for himself right now. The value from Andrew that we've all gotten used to is actually as important as the programs and plugins themselves. I for one would gladly pay for monthly tutorials given the level of experience Andrew will be bringing back with him.. its worth it.. trust me. Practical knowledge and experience in the effects business is priceless! And having someone sharing that information with us at no cost is incredible. I just am looking forward to having the Big Kahona back, and that there will be plans made so that future outside projects will be less intrusive in growing VC.

Congratulations Andrew. Don't push yourself too hard. Concentrate on the paid gigs first. Then take some time with your family, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. You've already done so much for the vfx community. You don't owe anyone anything, ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT NO NEW CONTENT. I guarentee their demo reels are 80% your tutorials, which is why they are starving for new content.

looks pretty good though i would suggest tweaking the shadows. the movement looks fairly realistic but you seem to have too much going on for shadows. for a specific video, check for a good reference to recreate the lighting. for your video, the orange and white barrier works well. notice there is only one strong shadow, which is facing away from the camera. recreating the environment's lighting is super important for making something fit into live action footage. if you place one strong virtual keylight way back behind the virtual camera, and one ambient light or a weak fill light low to the ground to imitate the reflection of the bright snow, i think it would perfect the video

I don't think VideoCopilot is necessarily dying, but it is true that months between posts is worrisome. I can live without new tutorials, but the tools (like Element) have become part of everyday life, so I hope that the software will always be maintained

Why not trying to find out how to make stuff instead to wait for Tutorials and just "copy"? And VC is ot dead but the guy need to feed his family and keep his company alive. I've been following this site since the beginning. There was a time when Andrew really cared about the site and his fans. Regular new blogs and tutorials, great products made this the best site ever to learn AE. But ever since he became big and successful, his Nab talks, his VFX studio work etc it seems like that is all he cares about, getting bigger and more successful. He may put on an act that he's the same old AK but he's not. Even his tutorials (what little there are now) have lost that quirky humor when he'd go off on a tangent and talk about something else. I'm sorry if this sounds bad but someone needs to point this out while everyone else in the comments just kisses his arse. Just remember, when you reach the top on the shoulders of others, just remember who put you there because the only direction you can go from the top...is down.

Guys please don't misunderstand.. I love VCP, and will always return, BUT, does anybody know of any other good tutorial sites like Andrew and VCP ? Andrew has a life and he's working on his future, but so am I, going without training or tutorials for more than 4 months is not going to cut it.. (Obviously I know of other sites, just trying to see if there is any good ones that I DON'T know about.) Thanx in advance..

If you got basic training from Andrew's 10 AE basic tuts then you have to start being more artistic and make things with your imaginations and of course watch random Youtube tuts preferably who speaks American ENG fluently

If you're like me then you have watched all 158 tutorials. But I've found that watching some of the middle ones again can refresh my memory regarding a couple of shortcuts and tricks. Especially regarding scripting, which Andrew never goes into the depth of, but he does explain it well enough.

Yes they probably used the tutorial for the base scene. It's nothing new, Andrew is one of the best in the visual industry, his plug-ins are used worldwide and his tutorials aren't anything to laugh at.

Thanks! Water is not a plugin has not been made ??psunam. Everything has been done in e3D v2.2 + particular. It was fairly easy to do, Key to is a good traffic cameras and appropriate color correction. The water did by trial and error

Wondering is it any options when apply materials to object made from multiple parts to scale material on individual parts. Example I would apply metal material on object but need to scale only on one individual part so it is not out of proportions. So far workaround is to export that particular part of model as separate object and import back in the model.

Dude, seriously? VCP and their product support is off the charts in comparison to other VFX sites. Andrew is awesome and gives his followers a ton of free tutorials and plug-ins. when you are able to trump his abilities and with all the other things he does, then complain, otherwise, shut the hell up and relax. Andrew does the best he can and he has a family too.

Of course AK has been very generous to us over the years, with absolutely amazing tutorials, content, and software. He owes us nothing; in fact, quite the opposite. But I think what Paul's trying to convey is a fear that maybe Andrew had moved on to bigger and better things and the site's best days are behind us. Andrew's post here was encouraging to us that he is still dedicated to the site and the best is still yet to come. And, it looks like there has been quite a response to his post as well!

Andrew is a great artist, but if you look at the amount of posts of tutorials over the past 2 years, its not alot as it used to be.

The site used to be buzzing, at least one tutorial every one ore two weeks.

Its such a shams to see that this side of it has fallen by the wayside.

It was the tutorials that made people buy his product!!!!

Lets hope the rest of this year and 2016 is a better year for VC!

Hey there, I just need to comment something on this side by now.
First of all, CONGRATS on being big in the industry, if anyone deserves that kind of a break it´s you Sir.

I just wanted to thank you (prolly you won´t even read this, but screw it).
I am a Filmmaker, Director, Cameraman, Cutter and so on.

Everything about Directing, Camerahandling, Cutting... I had to teach myself, the hard way, by failing miserabley but always getting back to it, because my ultimate Goal is to be damn good at this.
EVERYTHING I know about AE, and with that VFX and MotionGraphics Design I learned from you (of course trying a lot of things as well).

Right now I am working on my Masters Degree, while being employed in an Agency, doing all sorts of funky Stuff for pharmaceutical Companies.
THIS wouldn´t be the case without you´re Work trying to teach people like me and so I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am by NO MEANS at the Point I want to get to and BAH GAWD am I always dissapointed with my work once it´s done (because by doing it I always learn so much I didn´t know about when starting, so I always think that I could do it way better afterwards) but I am working hard to maybe on day getting close to a level of Skill similar to yours.

Until then I will have to keep grinding, trying to get where I want to be at.
But again, I am doing something I never thougt I would be able to do for a living and a big part of it is thanks to you and the effords you have put in, so once again Sir, I want to thank you.

Big fan, for many years. I don't know how you do it! Going from Hollywood movies to producing your own short to raising a family to updating "us" on Videocopilot and running a company. You must not sleep.

I understand how life can throw business at you when a lot of people want something from you. I honestly don't know how you do it, but you do an amazing job of balancing everything. You've taught me everything I know about Adobe After Effects and many other applications to other programs. Your one of the main reasons I make a living doing what I love! I am grateful beyond measure.

You have come such a long way Andrew, it's awesome to have seen your growth in both skills and jobs over the years! Some people don't realise that doing the actual jobs and running a free (!) tutorial platform at the same time requires an incredible amount of work! (I know the difficulties as I'm running a free audio tutorial platform and doing my freelance jobs to make a living as well.)

Yet I do also understand the impatience that some people get when there's radio silence, especially when not meeting (your own set) deadlines. I occasionally check your website for new content and noticed your absence as well but it's good you realise you should inform your (unbelievably HUGE) fanbase and following as well. (Including me!)

And new free plugins, 3 already finished? GEEZ! How many are you guys releasing?

Well, yea, actually we (I) do. I figured you came across some issues during or after shooting your short and then your "Bad Robot" gig or some other fabulous gig came up and you had to pay the bills - the house, wife and kids don't come free these days!

So, at least I understand and I think most people that follow you, learn from you from a far, realized a long time ago that you are the real deal. You know your shit and you've built a business around helping people'z learn and you've managed to develop "the shitz" plug-in that help a hack like me create pretty damn cool viz'uals!

I just upgraded to the latest "Elemental" 3D version and it's pretty damn kick'inz!

Oh, and we (I) Can't wait to see what that lucky azz Bad Robot hack JJ has you working on!

I for one liked that, even though you couldn't meet the original (or the next) deadline, you kept us updated, and even went as far to show the troubles that are happening. Shit happens, and in this industry, knowing how to overcome that is fundamental. Take all the time you need, Andrew. The end result will certainly be worth the wait!

Oh yeah! I'd absolutely LOVE to see a fully rigged Element 3D helicopter pack! I'd also love it if they made a vehicle pack too, and maybe even a those 3D destruction elements pack that Andrew showed in his Adobe conference... That would be killer

No worries, I like many of us here am super excited from what I have seen so far in terms of Intercept over on Film Riot. The struggles you went through and how you were able to go and navigate those hurdles only helps to learn how to be better prepared next time (by buying a second AC unit and not to schedule a personal project right before you land a multi-million dollar major motion picture VFX project to work on haha).

Best of luck finishing the secret Bad Robot project your working on (doesnt really take a jedi master to figure out which title it is that you are working on) so I say all the best and good luck trying to get some form of sleep over the next few months!

Forgive me for being tacky, but when you bring those free plugins, would you also consider a fix for SureTarget? I honestly use that plugin more than any of my purchased content and employ it in various templates that I use for my own speed. It is now broken in CC 2015. I'm also willing to pay for a supported version.

Do what you gotta do Andrew, If people want to complain about having access to 100+ free tutorials, and most likely learning to use a software that has allowed them to get, keep, or improve their job... that's their problem.

Make sure your family sees you too, as a husband and father of 2 who produced a national show for about 2 years in an underfunded company working 130 hour weeks back to back on a regular basis, not to mention the regular hours I kept.

When it's done... it's done. Enjoy the awesome project you're getting to work on now!
