METROPOLITAN Release Date!

December 31st, 2012

Have you ever wanted to be an unlicensed building contractor? Today we are announcing the release date for our new 3D model pack METROPOLITAN. This collection features over 100 3D buildings and specialized reflection maps for creating incredible city shots with Element 3D! The pack will be available Tuesday, Jan 22 2013!

In addition to Element 3D, we have also taken the time to build each object for your favorite 3D program too. Including Cinema 4D, 3D Max and 3D Max with Vray, as well as OBJ and FBX with materials pre-setup. This model pack is our most comprehensive and there may be a few surprises yet to come. Trailer and demo videos to follow. Have a safe new year!

Can we pre-order the pack? If not this would be a nice capability for future endeavors. I know that I personally like to know that I have already paid for something when I have the funds available before s@#! hits the fan and I have to use my funds. That sounds great! Imagine Anton Furst's Gotham City or Batman Beyond future city.
I think I saw a cool idea from EsriCityEngine http://www.esri.com/software/cityengine where we could import a 2D city floor map or a photoshopped file with different custom shapes representing objects such as trees, grass, different road types etc and have the Metropolitan plug-in recognize the shapes and colors, press a button and have these shapes extrude(adjustable). It would be incredible.

This looks amazing! Will you create a plugin for Element 3D that will allow us to use the Xbox Kinect to animate 3D characters in the future? For example: We import a 3D character into Element 3D, import environment reflection map. Once this is set, record two motion capture sessions (body and face capture) and connect the track points to the face and body skeleton.

Andrew when will an update be coming to Element,, AEFX crashes when certain expressions are used to map nulls to help resolve Anchor point issues with the models, or will there be a way to fix the anchor point issue to move it without moving the model such as the expressions created by the plug in elementary even when you create them manually

How are the buildings structured? Are window panes modelled or just textured? I'm thinking about the possibility of using shaders to create virtual room geometry, but that would generally require window panes to be modelled.

Will this work in a similar kind of way to the citykit plugin found on Greyscale Gorilla? I don't think it will be as customisable, but I still have high hopes it can do so much instead in AE!

Seems to be just a bit of masking (rotoing if source footage was not static) and finding the right source material of waves, then just put that in??

Will this pack work with Blender?

Yes! blender supports both .obj and .fbx
You will probably need to reasign the materials/textures, but it says pre-setup so even that might be unnecesary.
But if you are going to use cycles instead of blender internal i guess you will have to reasign the textures. (Shouldnt be a problem though, as these models most likely will include UV-Coordinates

No wonder it is taking so long to get the product out to us. It isn't even in our impatient hands yet and everyone is trying to make improvements before we even know what needs to be improved upon. How can Andrew possibly get this to our hot little hands and in time for the release date if we are giving him sleepless nights? I can only picture him tossing and turning and wondering why we are being so hyper critical on something we have not had the opportunity or right to be making critical statements about. Yet.
Good Grief! Calm down and wait to see this thing of beauty and then we can rip it to shreds with either love or why didn???t you do this or that. I have never been disappointed from any product I have gotten from Andrew and crew ever! But I do think a miniature of Sam Loya is a good idea. I want to throw him off a tall building!

What's cool is you could integrate this in Cinema 4D using the GSG City Pack. You could use these buildings as custom buildings,and then use the City pack to control them.

After reading all the GSG City Pack related questions, I gotta say this.

The difference will become clear when you make a fully textured city in C4D with City Pack, animate it, render it, export the camera in AE ... blah blah blah... Then boot up Element 3D and knock 50 cities while C4D renders one...

This is the kind of urban sprawl I can get behind. Will there be more than one demo? as I see it, it could be a pretty deep pack, ref materials, lighting inside and out, atmospheres...
Also, will the demo focus on implementation into Element?
Will there be any bodies of water? as many major urban areas are coastal.

Is there a way to generate some sort of buffer-matte-thingy that would allow us to place a layer behind close buildings and in front of further buildings? So we can have aircraft, Godzilla or whatever look like it's in the scene?

Yes... One way is to use the depth compositing trick. Or create a plane on Group 5 and make it big, then set the material to Matte Shadow, This will cut anything out behind it. Then if you use a copy of the Element 3D layer, you can make this a matte.

No, this is a model pack intended for use with the pluggin Element 3D which runs in Adobe After Effects. In addition you can run it in 3D programs such as Cinema 4d, 3DS Max, and other programs that can load an OBJ such as Maya. All listed in the second paragraph above.

Destroying them yourself is probably best because otherwise you can't as much with broken buildings

of course you could simply use a simply fracture effect on any building in an external 3d software, but that wouldnt look realistic.
For a realistic explosion you would need the interior modelled at least a bit, which would be somewhat overkill for a motion graphics pack and rise the polycount way up.
There is though the way to just use an Action Essentials (for those who have it, i wish i was one of those guys

) Explosion and put it somewhere, an explosion usually covers stuff in a bright fireball so with a few additional debris elements it should be fine for mid range shots, and for a detail shot of such an explosion there could be a little more 3d Software work done.

I have to agree with Tyler. I own Element 3D and the Pro Shaders but I would be interested in buying just some model packs now that I have a better understanding of how I will use E3D but there is not an option to bundle just the models. Please consider adding some bundles for the model packs. thanks AK!

Hi Simon, Yes I realize you can purchase them separately. However, there are no BUNDLE deals. i.e. (buy any three model packs for $249.99) You must pay full price for each if you pass up the original massive bundle deal which includes E3D and Pro Shaders. In my case I bought the 3D design bundle but now I can't go back and bundle any of the models themselves.
