Failed Blog Show Out-take
September 25th, 2010

So we're working on a fun new blog show and it's taking a little longer to produce than expected but here is an embarrassing out-take to enjoy.

Believe it or not, we have to use trick editing to make it seem like I can say a complete sentence. Usually I can introduce a segment in 1-2 takes but some days... not so much.

Be gentle, it was windy. Should probably watch before you read any comments...

I was watching this with headphone turned up all the way and when it exploded I actually pooped my pants. Nice special fx Andrew, it took me 10 watches to realize that all of those elements came from action essentials 2.

hi sir i have made a footage with the help of this outstanding tutorial but.....i did a mistake i made that explosion in between two cars so everything looks so realistic except one thing....on the glass of cars there wasn't any reflection so.....if theres a way to do it.....plzzzz make a tutorial plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My wife knows about you and about this site. Every time we sit down to watch FRINGE and the opening titles are on, I say, "Hey, Andrew Kramer did this." Now she says it too. So anyway my wife comes home from dog training with our other dog (the non-guard-dog) and I sit her down to watch this video. Well, she screamed, and jumped, and laughed. But that's not the best part. The best part is when she turns to me and says, "So, I guess he didn't know that bomb was going to go off?"

I explained it to her five minutes later - after I stopped laughing.

Then she says, "Well, he's a good actor"

Which gets me thinking - she watches a LOT of Sci-fi. And compared to the acting on those shows (especially the sci-fi network [i refuse to use syfy] original movies) you really are a good actor.

Sorry about the double post, but I thought you'd appreciate the compliment.

Put me down with those who turned their speakers up. Also, I have a kickin' subwoofer. Add that together, and I didn't just jump - i nearly levitated. My excellent guard dog in the other room even jumped and came in to look at me as if to say with his eyes "I quit - you handle this one on your own." He even jumped the second time I played the video. Silly dog.

Great work as always!!! Thanks for the laugh and the scare (quite fitting as I am getting psyched for Halloween)

@Andrew Paxson from the looks of it the shock wave looks like might be the ellipse tool in AE made as a 3d layer and Mr. Kramer you never cease to amaze. very solid effect. good job as always

Damn, don`t you know when ever you tell to ppl not to do something that`s exactly what they will do ? Like reading at least few comments while the movie buffers? And interesting trick using that wind to make ppl focus on what you are trying to say and get surprised by the explosion.

Welll, fantastic, imprressive and all that. AK is realy one of the best in this ball we call Earth. At list in AE.
The frame by frame exploring reeveals almost perfect work. The only small, maybe thiny thing is a shockwave coming from the blast and not bending the grass. I am not capàble to do the thing like this in years, but I saw this and it is just my humble observation. I learned so much from Andrew's work. Thanx, thanx, thanx.

I have to say, this explosion was composited well. I would like to see a tutorial for this scene. Also i was very curious to what program you used to create the Action Essentials 2 explosions (Fume Fx, Phoenix Fluid Dinamics, ect.), or were these real explosions that were filmed. I work for a school and would love to teach some students how to make this kind of thing.

@Jim P Meister: I think you'll probably find Mr Kramers first line of business (as far as Video Copilot is concerned) is making plug-ins and all the stock footage to SELL. While the tutorials are a fantastic resource for us they are the "carrot" to get us all visiting the site again and again... Ever noticed all the freebies Andrew gives us in the tutorials project files? How about all the mentions of Twitch, Action Essential and more recently Optical Flares? While its clear the tutorials are essentially a subtle sales pitch its still obvious that Mr Kramer enjoys making them for and I for one am grateful that he is so willing to share his incredibly creative and inspiring knowledge with us. However make no mistake that while the tutorials are probably key to the success of Video Copilot they aren't the first line of business.

Or you could just lighten up a little. I think Andrew is simply trying to show us that Video Copilot isn't just another faceless site trying to sell us stuff, it (and he) has a personality. If you don't like it just watch and learn from the FREE tutorials and quit #%&!ing.

I was afraid of this- With such a popularity comes all this other extraneous content that is, while nice, not the reason I used to come to this website to begin with. Came to see great, useful tutorials. Last one was from mid-August. I know the legions of Kramer fans will snicker and try their best to deflect this point, but fact is, this is great, but the tutorials are the "bread and butter" so to speak. If I want to be entertained, I can catch a movie. I come here to learn AE. Not laugh or marvel at blog posts. No bad intentions, just saying you seem to be getting caught up in the hype machine a little too much- Step away from J.J.Abrams and come back down to reality! We love the tutorials. They should be the FIRST order of business.

That was amazing. I can't stop laughing! I almost had a heart attack, as i didn't see that coming at all. That's what I love about the VideoCopilot crew. You never know what to expect, and it's great. The Effect was superb, acting as well! Hey Andrew. Fantastic job! I just had a question: we all know that After Effects doesn't have the best tracker, and we all can't afford Boujou or SynthEyes. Could you tell us a way to integrate precise tracking data with the Voodoo tracker (it's free and just as good as Boujou) into After Effects? It's a problem I've had for the longest time.

this would be a cool tutorial. the way the ring shaped pulse of air shot across the screen. compositing all the elements together. i know you have the tut on action essentials for some explosions but nothing like this.
