One of our own Video Copilot patrons has been selected as a finalist in the Heinz 57 Top This TV challenge. (The big Ketchup company, JK)

Jeremiah Jones submitted the entry called Heinz World Wide and we need to help vote for his great video :)

So what's the final result ? I heard unfortunatly that Jeremiah didn't won but was indeed in the top 5 ... not that bad !

I agree that Jeremiah's and Joseph Garner's videos were the best of the lot. I still have to give it to Jeremiah though. That was very nicely done.

I think it's great that you're backing Jeremiah's work, even if it is for selfish reasons. ) It's in a tough group of great commercials, but I think as a whole is by far the best. It's the full on package deal. Nice work Jeremiah Jones . . . if that's your real name.

Jeremiah, you have my vote...that video is AWESOME!!!! It looks absolutely amazing, and the help of Andrew's tuts and FMP I can see REALLY gives you the edge over everybody...especially shooting in uncompressed HD.

BTW, what was that song?? did you create that from scratch?? if so how did you make it? I'd love to learn how you did that!!

Hey, great commercial, I especially like the queens part. You matched the sound perfectly, and every scene/shot looks great. Also, the grading from Film Magic Pro was done nicely, and the Earth Zoom/Blue Planet part at the end was also great. I have already voted for you, and will vote for you every day

P.S, I know what you mean about logging on everyday to see what is new, I'm like that too

Some of you had questions about the slider. You can literally go to www.theslider.com

Now, this was not the actual make a model of slider that I used but it's about the same price, about $150-$200 per day. I was able to cut a deal at a rental house here in LA for about $100 per day. If you're thinking about buying, save your dollars. It's around 3 grand or something and that money is better spent on your production.

Also, someone asked about the Africa location. That was actually a national park in Santa Clarita. I had to beg and plead with the County of Los Angeles to let me out there. There was no green screen used. The only FX shot was the establishing shot of the Queen. I only had enough money for one British Guard costume. So I used the same actor and digitally copied him into two places. Other than that, all the shots were real.

Not exactly on topic, but a question in general to make things look as good as this commercial!

If exporting from a video editing program to AE, what is the best way to encode: Photo JPEG?, and is it best to export standard tv aspect ratio? Just wondering what all of you are doing? (Using FC PRO)

Yay! My Riot Gear and DSFX dvd's came today! I'm sooo happy!

Andrew, out of curiosity (and the fact I'm looking into buy a new one) why kind of display do you use? my 15" just doesn't seem to do justice in AE.. Everything seems crammed together.

One question though can you post the make and model of the steel slider you describe in your earlier post? I really think it might be a great piece of equipment for my studio and others, no matter how small. thanks

Really excellent work, Jeremiah. VERY professional. And I completely agree with you and others that Andrew absolutely deserves his fair share of praise as well. You certainly will be getting my daily votes. Again, well done.

Just Amit: My camera advice would be to continue to save up until you reach the $1000 range and pick up a Canon HV20. It shoots HD footage and has a true 24p mode similar to the Panasonic HVX200 that Jeremiah shot his commercial with. For a compact camera, it delivers some truly stunning images. If you do a Google search you'll be able to find lots of footage that people have posted. You should check it out. That said, you will need a fairly hefty computer in order to edit HDV footage, so keep that in mind if you're planning to shoot HighDef. Good luck.

Wow incredibly impressive work. The only other commercial that I really liked was "Uncap the Smile"

Thank you so much Andrew for all your hard work. I went to school for Multi Media Design and Production, and I swear to god I have a job working with After Effects everyday because of you. Actually, I couldn't afford a dolly so I used a neat little device called a slider. It's basically a 3 foot long sheet of aluminium with a track on it. It allows you to VERY QUICKLY set up smooth "dolly-like" shots. The first shot as an example took a whole 2 minutes to set up.

As far as the editing, I used Final Cut Pro 5. It's integrated very well with Panasonic P2.

And Clancy, I hear you man. I've been smelling nothing but ketchup for months now!

Very nice Jeremiah! I had a suspicion it was the HVX but I didn't want to take any shots in the dark lol. Fantastic job on it man! Did you use any particular dolley system or was I imagining things? What did you cut on? I've heard that P2 has had some issues on various editors, so I'm just curious.

I was running around all day today and came home to see some very nice posts by all you guys. Thank you so much and thank you Andrew.

Some of you had questions about the camera. I shot it on the Panasonic HVX that I rented for a hefty $300 per day. But I shot it over a weekend so I only had to pay a one-day rental. It's a beautiful camera and since everything is native digital files there's no capturing! Whew!

But honestly, the spot wouldn't be anywhere near what it is without Andrew's products. I can't emphasize enough how far they have taken all my other projects as well. I use Film Magic Pro on EVERYTHING I shoot, Video Streams HD I use on about 90% of my motion graphics stuff and I've only had Riot Gear for a month but have used it already on two vfx projects and the clients loved them!

Not to mention the tuts! If you're like me, you log on EVERY DAY to this website to see what new fun stuff Andrew's got. And unlike every other tut site I've encountered, you can tell that the owner (Andrew) cares about his visitors. I don't know but sometimes... when he does a tutorial and says, "What's up, I'm Andrew Kramer"... I think that... well, maybe he's talking to me...

Despite sounding creepy, Andrew's products are an instrumental part to my success and I believe you should purchase every single one!

Amit, do you already have a video editing program or effects program? After Effects and Avid are two great programs to use for making films, but they can cost a pretty penny. Check out the site www.journeyed.com and you can get some amazing discounts on pro film/video stuff if you are a student.

As for cameras, theres not much in the 100-500 range that is technically stunning, but its what you do with the camera that counts the most I guess.


BTW - LOVED the commercial. The lighting in the indian scene was very good! My vote goes here for sure, every day
