Impressive Music Video with Element 3D!

Here is a really cool music video made by a talented guy named Thorsten Hary. The video features some impressive visual effects and stylized treatments done in After Effects. You can also see how much hard work was put into the video by watching the behind the scenes.

It was also fun to see that he used Element 3D for a lot of the FX too and even our Metropolitan City Pack.

And to top it off the song is pretty good too. Not too shabby!

April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:10 pm
It might as well be a commercial for Element 3D! A testiment to your products. Cogradulations! And the video looks great and the music isn't bad either. LOL
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:12 pm
Very impressive work!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:14 pm
the effects were really well integrated, setting the bar pretty high. and yeah, the song was actually really good too! big thanks for making a bts as well, those are uber helpful to newbies like me.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:15 pm
very very nice! .. !
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:15 pm
That looks great! I am very surprised of what Element 3D could do.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:18 pm
Wow, its very inspiring what one can do with just green screen, an amazing set of tools and one wild imagination. I loved the opening birds eye view shot of the city, dunno if that was layers upon layers or just an aerial stock video. After watching this, im very inspired to use what i have and go out there and go above and beyond. Thanks for sharing this VCP, without you guys, no idea what we (the community) would have done.
    April 4th, 2013 @ 6:47 am
One thing Element 3D can't do though is improve a bad song. (Although it can distract wonderfully).
    April 4th, 2013 @ 8:36 am
@Paul best comment here ... but the vfx work is really nice
    April 4th, 2013 @ 10:12 am
    @Paul absolut best comment :-)
    April 5th, 2013 @ 2:25 am
    PAUL! Totally with you!
    April 5th, 2013 @ 11:46 am
    Amen to that!
    April 12th, 2013 @ 4:01 am
@Paul and everybody who agrees with him. Good to know there are others who don't fall for over produced garbage. More effects on that song than in the video. But of course, you can't expect Andrew to say "Ignore this lousy song while checking out the amazing things they've done with our products!"
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:23 pm
I love ending part. Really interested in seeing how that was put together a bit more in depth.
    April 13th, 2013 @ 2:46 am
im not real sure but one way to do it is to use the kinnect ( motion capture device that comes with xbox) maybe use 2 of them is better , then u get the depth information and create a 3d mesh,, after that u can apply form to it
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:24 pm
Amazing and beautiful. Great plugin.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:32 pm
Very fucking cool!! amazing what you can do in E3d!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:34 pm
Thorsten Hary must be so very happy right now.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:39 pm
An impressive example for clever filmmaking. But the expierence of a movie director can not be replaced by special effects. For example the excessive use of elements wireframe effect in the video is way too much and destroys the illusion. Anyway its still impressive what can be done in AE, the movie makers should just follow one advice in the future. Sometimes less is more.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:50 pm
Nice work. Appreciate that some thought and planing was put into it and they just didn't rely on using the plug-ins.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:53 pm
WOW! I remeber this video from Revision 2013 party about 4 days ago! I really surprising to see this video again here, it's a small world after all :)

April 3rd, 2013 @ 4:57 pm

April 3rd, 2013 @ 5:37 pm
Very inspirational! Thanks for sharing Kramer!

April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:04 pm
Before seeing the video I was interested in seeing the how Element 3D was used but after hearing the song I'm hoping this group has some major success. I think both video and music complement each other very well.

April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:08 pm
Freakin' awesome! If anyone had limitations in their minds about the utility of ELEMENT before this (which I'd find amazing within itself), this should remove all doubts.
This is really inspiring ... ! ! !
April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:15 pm
A new outlook of Element 3d ,maybe in the future it can boost our work more.A good example of using metropolitan and element 3d.
Barry Barrera
April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:36 pm
WOW!!! 10 thumbs up!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 9:00 pm
This is truly amazing.
It stun me twice, because I have just finished a music video using the exact same models (metropolitan and the airbus plane) and it looks like sh*t compare to this video :) I think that the vfx guy had done excellent job in hiding the weak spots, and illuminating the strong ones (great use of motion blur, camera DOF,lighting, glows etc)

April 3rd, 2013 @ 9:56 pm
hi andrew when will you make movie under videocopilot production with sam loya? it would be fun seeing you both on screen...
April 3rd, 2013 @ 10:24 pm
Very Very Cool !
This Film show the limit of element 3d => no limit :-)
I love this Plug-in
April 3rd, 2013 @ 10:37 pm
April 3rd, 2013 @ 10:47 pm
mind freaking work. I likesss :)
April 3rd, 2013 @ 11:22 pm
Really impressive, I was surprised to see that all the 3D shots, especially the car and plane, were done with Element - not a dedicated 3d app!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 11:47 pm
Well, that just ruined my self-esteem, lol.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 11:57 pm
It's a great work I'm enjoyed
April 4th, 2013 @ 12:37 am
Nice to see how AK's tutorials and technics were greatly applied...
Andrew must be proud of how people become more and more efficient thanks to him and his website...
For example this video would have never existed without videocopilot tips and plugs...
Thanx for that million times!!!

good work
April 4th, 2013 @ 1:50 am
very very very Nice !!!
April 4th, 2013 @ 1:56 am
Beautiful work, really enjoyed watching it.

April 4th, 2013 @ 2:13 am
The guy is very creative for sure. To bad about the lack of shadows on/off the building. It really should't be so hard to add that to Element. It will run a bit slower perhaps but that's a choice...
April 4th, 2013 @ 2:35 am
Realmente impresionante!!! Es alucinante lo que se puede hacer con estas fantásticas herramientas. Congratulations!! :)
April 4th, 2013 @ 2:43 am
It made me happy whilst watching it!
April 4th, 2013 @ 3:21 am
really good but if i to will made another "impressive music videos" with element 3d will i should to write about vc and e3d in my video??I mean I would do this or no?
(sorry for bad english guys)
April 4th, 2013 @ 3:55 am
Great ! It is because of you ANDREW
April 4th, 2013 @ 4:19 am
Hi Guys,
Does anybody know how he's done the effect with the drummer (1:28)?
    April 12th, 2013 @ 7:31 am
    with trapcode :D
    May 17th, 2013 @ 8:32 am
I am too, wondering the same thing. I'm guessing is trapcode but does anyone know of a tutorial that approaches a similar or approximate effect?
Ahmed Akmal
April 4th, 2013 @ 5:28 am
This is COOOL...
Very nice use of element+optical flares+action essentials...
Also, I noticed the inside airplane shot from one of Andrew's tutorials, even the grain on the side window is there :D
Thorsten Hary surely was able to make use of all the different jewels around VC !
Great work, really impressive
    April 4th, 2013 @ 9:52 pm
Ahmed Akmal indonesia and thailand's so amateur. not technique no cretive idea no visual eye so sorry this is right!
    April 8th, 2013 @ 8:42 pm
    findo you right!
April 4th, 2013 @ 6:16 am
So Cool! Realy Super Work!

April 4th, 2013 @ 7:35 am
Yes this is a well done video but I wish it wouldn't look like a blatant best of 2012's tutorials and plugins. Just too much, too obvious.
April 4th, 2013 @ 7:43 am
Great Job, Very inspiring. I Feel so good that there are so many talented people out there and people like Andrew and his team who create such amazing plugin. thanks for share!

April 4th, 2013 @ 7:54 am
Awe-&?#$%^!-some. Amazing things are happening.
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:05 am
Andrew, do you know how to make the last effect? Body emitting particles looks like a very nice effect to be tutorialized. Greetings from Brazil!
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:09 am
nicely done))))))))))))))
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:09 am
Pretty nice. Kind of the same idea here:
    April 5th, 2013 @ 12:47 am
Great job! The lights can be so better, but well done.
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:13 am
Maxon just released news about its "new" integration with Cinema 4d and After Effects:
But whats is new? Are they kidding? They really never heard about ELEMENT 3D?
    April 4th, 2013 @ 8:38 am
Cinema 4d Lite will be bundled with AFX CS7.
"But whats is new? Are they kidding?" Maybe this is news to you but in C4D you can actually model things and create more than text. Also real reflections and refractions are possible. It won't replace element 3d because it is different kind of tool really and it's slow as hell it seems.
    April 4th, 2013 @ 9:09 am
interesting. i wonder what andrew kramer has to say about Cinema 4D's new advancements. Some of their text examples using Cineware even look like obvious rip offs of Element too!!!!
    April 4th, 2013 @ 10:02 am
Well, competition makes the world go around...
    April 5th, 2013 @ 6:13 am
Downside of cineware you still need CPU power (raytrace) to work smoothly, plus is lite version with Ae already. Upside of Element you need just good GeForce card (OpenGL)which is more affordable then high power x-core machine. For me as C4D user is Cineware much faster way to composite w/out rendering every pass and changes again. For basic stuff E3D still faster and cheaper way. So it depends on users specs.
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:32 am
nice. I can def see element's usage here. but also other 3D apps - all nicely integrated. version 1.6 has only been out a short while, but I can see places where thorsten must have used it. particularly the placement of the band on the rooftop.
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:49 am
Amaaaaazing Stuff!

But there's one information still lacking in many posts like this...

What machine was used to render the work and how long did it take to render.

This would be a valuable information for those who want to work professionally in this area.
April 4th, 2013 @ 9:29 am
REALY AMAZING MUSIC VIDEO! Great use of ELEMENT 3D and Action Essentials 2.... RATE: 11/10!
Todd VanSlyck
April 4th, 2013 @ 11:01 am
That's like a VCP commercial. Nice use of some great tools (including trapcode plugs). Cool song too. I think it's time for a music video cameo!
April 4th, 2013 @ 11:15 am
How to make that nice effect like this point cloud drummer?? Is any special effect in AE for this?
    April 4th, 2013 @ 11:27 am
    It's probably Trapcode Form...
    April 4th, 2013 @ 11:32 am
I'm wondering that too! What effect or which tool he has used for the 3D view at point: 02:16?
    April 4th, 2013 @ 11:39 am
    also was wondering this

April 4th, 2013 @ 6:52 pm
What does andrew kramer think about MAXON CINEWARE in the new After Effects? How does it compare to element 3d?
April 4th, 2013 @ 6:53 pm
congratulations very good job, is very real
April 4th, 2013 @ 7:47 pm
It was cool to see that each band member was a different layer, placed in 3D space on that building. I would have never thought of that!
April 4th, 2013 @ 7:58 pm
Andrew Kramer ,i like e3d so much, how to see aecs7andCINEWARE
April 4th, 2013 @ 9:15 pm
Amazing Work, this Plug-in is a must have and great think is that is not Expensive so we can buy it instead of finding the crack etc...
April 4th, 2013 @ 9:26 pm

Thank's to Andrew of course. im adapting the novel "The Old Man and the Sea" into a short film right now, and im trying to use element 3D as much as possible. No one actually knows about element 3d in my university, so my short film will commercialize this product, this is all what i can do Andrew, because i could buy Element from you, so i got a cracked version, we dont have credit cards. Sorry for that.
April 5th, 2013 @ 5:11 am
Some amazing stuff,I have still yet to buy Element 3D,I know what my next instalment of my student loan is going on :P
April 5th, 2013 @ 7:57 am
Here is a commercial I did using the metropolitan pack. feel free to post it if you wish :)

here is also a behind the scenes:
April 5th, 2013 @ 9:08 am
It's really cool! how do you think how much should I work to be able to do so? a year?
April 5th, 2013 @ 11:52 am
great jobs !!!

très beaux travail encore une fois :)
April 5th, 2013 @ 2:01 pm
very f.. good video it seems we don"t have to move from our house to make a video just a greenscreen and tons of hours of learning ae and we're ready to go

on the other side and from my own opinion the song sucks there is no melody no style no nothing just a couple of young peoples yelling and screaming all the time but hey it's just me...
April 5th, 2013 @ 2:25 pm
This is the result when creative people with a vision have great tools in their hands!
This is simple amazing!

I've placed the link to this video in the appropriate part of the forum (Production/Gear) but in case anyone misses this I thought I'd post it here too. It's a new form of steadicam that to my eye gets great results with little apparent effort. I've no idea about the price but the video really impressed me.
    April 20th, 2013 @ 12:18 pm
    THANK YOU :)
April 6th, 2013 @ 4:05 am
the thing really important here is how to match the colors with the characters and the background when added with the green screen
this is very difficult
i don't think there is any tutorial for that just some ideas
in the video it's amazing ...
seems the man is part of the footage and there is no green screen at all
April 6th, 2013 @ 5:10 am
probably the best use of the point cloud feature I have ever seen! super clever!.. Andrew, you think you could do twice as better? xP jk bro
April 6th, 2013 @ 6:17 am
But Andrew would use some color correction...
George Laird
April 6th, 2013 @ 8:36 am
Great video, real talent, I hope Andrew gets recognised for his contribution to the film making art by his Video Copilot products, he has helped raise the game for everyone. Video Copilot gives anyone the chance to make incredible stuff on a small budget.
April 6th, 2013 @ 9:46 am
I wonder if the video was fully made in AE? Or does it has some Cinema 4D or Davinci Cc

April 6th, 2013 @ 10:59 am
Wow..All i could say to myself was..."Look what I can DO! Think BiG!
April 7th, 2013 @ 11:09 am
Wow, seriously impressive video. Though it does feel at times like a tutorial compilation and not a video with a narrative. My favourite effect was the particles that moved with the person. The part at the end. Is that trapcode form?
April 7th, 2013 @ 4:53 pm
Hi !! ;) !! I'm Houssam ( i'm an arabian = from morocco ) i'm a big fan of you !! :D ( i'm 14 years old !! :/ ) . So my dream is to be like U !! To know about them ( Thank U ) !! T_______T !!
April 9th, 2013 @ 9:43 am
Plzz tell how you created that drummer one particle splitting effect...
April 10th, 2013 @ 5:43 am

April 10th, 2013 @ 6:50 am
Nice Work.... Thanks
April 11th, 2013 @ 12:42 am
seriously ? that´s is a little bit too much of everything...vfx overkill.....kramers tools are superb...out of the question... but that video is pretty lame
April 11th, 2013 @ 7:21 am
Kinda makes the Demon Cam promo look real shabby now!! Demo Cam 2, be great to see those girls again!!!

April 12th, 2013 @ 11:08 am
i have a question: will you make tutorials for this MV? :D, that's awsome..
April 18th, 2013 @ 1:14 pm
Thank you Andrew Kramer !

You didn't provided the music. neither than the clown BUR to enahnce them:... music pack, metropolitan (directly within AE or through 3D programs, optical flares etc..
I'm a beginner, started 2 years ago with AE, a big big fan of yours and I don't where I can tell this for now :)
Cheers from France.

Great use of Element and Optical Flares! Crazy how much can be done in just After Effects!
