Impressive Music Video with Element 3D!

Here is a really cool music video made by a talented guy named Thorsten Hary. The video features some impressive visual effects and stylized treatments done in After Effects. You can also see how much hard work was put into the video by watching the behind the scenes.

It was also fun to see that he used Element 3D for a lot of the FX too and even our Metropolitan City Pack.

And to top it off the song is pretty good too. Not too shabby!

Really cool! I have the metropolitan pack but can't figure out how to stick a singer like in your video on top without my person floating off into the air. Did you use a null or something??
Please help me. THANKS!!

Wow, seriously impressive video. Though it does feel at times like a tutorial compilation and not a video with a narrative. My favourite effect was the particles that moved with the person. The part at the end. Is that trapcode form?

Great video, real talent, I hope Andrew gets recognised for his contribution to the film making art by his Video Copilot products, he has helped raise the game for everyone. Video Copilot gives anyone the chance to make incredible stuff on a small budget.

probably the best use of the point cloud feature I have ever seen! super clever!.. Andrew, you think you could do twice as better? xP jk bro
12 years ago
the thing really important here is how to match the colors with the characters and the background when added with the green screen
this is very difficult
i don't think there is any tutorial for that just some ideas
in the video it's amazing ...
seems the man is part of the footage and there is no green screen at all

I've placed the link to this video in the appropriate part of the forum (Production/Gear) but in case anyone misses this I thought I'd post it here too. It's a new form of steadicam that to my eye gets great results with little apparent effort. I've no idea about the price but the video really impressed me.

Thank's to Andrew of course. im adapting the novel "The Old Man and the Sea" into a short film right now, and im trying to use element 3D as much as possible. No one actually knows about element 3d in my university, so my short film will commercialize this product, this is all what i can do Andrew, because i could buy Element from you, so i got a cracked version, we dont have credit cards. Sorry for that.

Amaaaaazing Stuff!

But there's one information still lacking in many posts like this...

What machine was used to render the work and how long did it take to render.

This would be a valuable information for those who want to work professionally in this area.
nice. I can def see element's usage here. but also other 3D apps - all nicely integrated. version 1.6 has only been out a short while, but I can see places where thorsten must have used it. particularly the placement of the band on the rooftop.

Maxon just released news about its "new" integration with Cinema 4d and After Effects: http://landingpage.maxon.net/
But whats is new? Are they kidding? They really never heard about ELEMENT 3D?
White
Cinema 4d Lite will be bundled with AFX CS7.
"But whats is new? Are they kidding?" Maybe this is news to you but in C4D you can actually model things and create more than text. Also real reflections and refractions are possible. It won't replace element 3d because it is different kind of tool really and it's slow as hell it seems.
interesting. i wonder what andrew kramer has to say about Cinema 4D's new advancements. Some of their text examples using Cineware even look like obvious rip offs of Element too!!!!
Well, competition makes the world go around...
Downside of cineware you still need CPU power (raytrace) to work smoothly, plus is lite version with Ae already. Upside of Element you need just good GeForce card (OpenGL)which is more affordable then high power x-core machine. For me as C4D user is Cineware much faster way to composite w/out rendering every pass and changes again. For basic stuff E3D still faster and cheaper way. So it depends on users specs.

This is truly amazing.
It stun me twice, because I have just finished a music video using the exact same models (metropolitan and the airbus plane) and it looks like sh*t compare to this video I think that the vfx guy had done excellent job in hiding the weak spots, and illuminating the strong ones (great use of motion blur, camera DOF,lighting, glows etc)

An impressive example for clever filmmaking. But the expierence of a movie director can not be replaced by special effects. For example the excessive use of elements wireframe effect in the video is way too much and destroys the illusion. Anyway its still impressive what can be done in AE, the movie makers should just follow one advice in the future. Sometimes less is more.

im not real sure but one way to do it is to use the kinnect ( motion capture device that comes with xbox) maybe use 2 of them is better , then u get the depth information and create a 3d mesh,, after that u can apply form to it
12 years ago
Wow, its very inspiring what one can do with just green screen, an amazing set of tools and one wild imagination. I loved the opening birds eye view shot of the city, dunno if that was layers upon layers or just an aerial stock video. After watching this, im very inspired to use what i have and go out there and go above and beyond. Thanks for sharing this VCP, without you guys, no idea what we (the community) would have done.
Cheers,
-Mark
