Shafted!

Apparently this blog show wouldn't be complete without a shot of my Elevator Shaft. I don't want to say too much yet, but a silly idea came up and we wanted to include a shot of an Elevator! So the episode is taking a little longer to complete. Why am I always waiting on Elevators!!!?

This scene was created inside of Element 3D and I found that using a world position pass helped to composite elements into the scene better. A Z-pass is great but with a camera movement the depth changes based on the camera distance. But a world position pass is almost like a texture that stays in place. So you can create depth information that stays parallel to a surface so you can composite smoke or other live action elements. Here is an older video with some information about the World Position feature inside Element 3D.

Notice how the world position pass highlights the back wall evenly behind the scaffolding. This could also be used as a mask for color correction or placing dust elements against the wall.

Doing a show in Japan this November! #VideoCopilot

I used the world position pass for the first time on a project. What a handy feature. I used to to put the steam over the vents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdju-nax18I. This took hours to render. I think I am pushing the limits of Element 3d.

Hey Whats up!
To the ungratefull people: Whats your problem...be patient, and trust the Godfather of VFX, he will run the show... What Andrew and his Crew have done for us vfx freaks is awesome, legendary and unpayable. He is showing and teaching us the art of vfx for years (for free). You must understand he is working hard and he wants to make it perfect for us. Show more respect and dont be so selfish.

I second that. I wouldn't pay any attention to these negative comments though. We will always find those everywhere, no matter what. Some people have nothing else to do and just rely on someone else to do things for them.

Hey Andrew,
I know life gets in the way sometimes and deadlines can get away from you. However, the key to your success and the success of others like you (greyscale gorilla) is consistent updates. Even if it's just a quick video blog talking to us about what is going on, you really need to keep your core audience updated. Eventually people will get restless, then bored, then they just go away...

The last tutorial was the one that came with the Saber plug in. It seemed like we waited forever. I wore my mouse out refreshing this page. Week after week. AAARRRRGGGHHHH. But when it finally came out... WWWOWWWW! I know it will be worth the wait and will blow us away. Looking forward to seeing it. Remember it's "just" a blog show, though Andrew!

Yes, Andrew Kramer really moved standards for after effects.
Plugins and tutorials he have created for after effects made this software more popular and more professional than it was.

Thanks to Andrew and his great team.

My personal statement in my english that sucks, so no surprise if it doesn't have the desired effect, but Andrew Kramer deserves much more respect than some comments here show up. He has created one of the biggest after effects community in the world, providing tips and ideas to everyone for free.. my compositing teacher mentioned him as the guy who set a new standard for training and I'm sure he is a really nice person as he appears to be, so I think we should simply support him; he has a family and his business to manage, honestly I'm glad he doesn't spend too much time here if he has more important things to do like playing with his children or working on a blockbuster movie!

The vc site is a portal to a genuine company that's core business is making money.
Good management is making the self set deadlines.

I'm just saying..

Federico
That's true, but the deadlines here are just about tutorials, not products! He is free to decide whenever showing a new one, no need to apologize..
Dan

I still find it offensive,to keep your fans and community hanging like this.

If you're not able to make self set
Deadlines .. don't make deadlines..
Simple af.
Federico

I understand what You mean, I struggle with deadlines every single day and I am sure You how stressful they are, especially in postproduction for small studios where clients still think that their commercials are made with a couple of clicks!

I agree Dan, You shouldnt make promises if you cant keep them . Unfortunately it happens all the time on VC. Makes you look undependable ....

Andrew's attention to detail and genuine raw enthusiasm are ALWAYS worth waiting for!

If he's too busy on movie projects, etc... good luck to him - he totally deserves it.
I (selfishly) hope he doesn't get SO busy, that he stops VCP altogether.

I've bought a few things off VCP now and intend to do in the future - it's pure quality.

To all the sour pusses in the audience... Have a little gratitude. Andrew's gotten to a place where his time is at a premium. He's got a family, a full time job and one of the best VFX sites on the net. He's a busy guy. So, feel fortunate that he still takes the time develop new tutorials, free plugins and great products. It is shitty attitudes that will suck the joy right out of this for him. So, suck it up and start creating something... and have a little gratitude.

How can i add multiple lumamates on the same layer? If that makes sense? For an example what if i wanted to add two layers of fire in element using world position? Sorry for asking on here but since we are on the topic.
Eddie

It's easy just add both fires onto a Pre-comp then add world position to the pre comp
