Gorgeous effects!
I don't have Element 3D, but I do have Photoshop CC... does anyone know if 3D objects created in Photoshop translate well to After Effects? I could see extruding a logo in Ps and then importing it to Ae for camera setup and motion capture in a 3D space, but the shading/highlights/reflections would be unrealistically static, wouldn't they? Or do they? Do these two programs play nicely enough together to allow for that sort of thing?

Hi Andrew, I'm sorry for posting this question here, but I can't log into the forum for some reason. Is there an easy way to rig a 3d model in E3D. I went through the tutorials and I understand there is some stuff that shows you how to move the parts and so, but if possible, please give us a tutorial on how to rig for example a robot arm, or two or three things that is connected to each other.(The hand connected to the arm, if you move the hand, the arm auto moves with it.) If there is anybody out there that knows about a good tutorial not to mess with Andrews time as well, it will be greatly appreciated

2)Would it be difficult to create something like these guys - but just for 3d models in E3D ? - http://duduf.net/?page_id=151

Autorig, Inverse Kinematics (IK), Bones, Morphers, Dynamics… Animation becomes handy and easy on After Effects!

Hey Michael, just click on the "create group null" button that is at the bottom of the groups utilities in your main effect control panel in After Effects (for the hand for instance). Then do that with the other groups that are children (fingers) of the parent (hand). Then just parent the nulls that were created as you would for a normal rig.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply Paul. Hope you have some more time available on your hands. If you look at the Hinges in motion design 2 ( Hope you have it, it's awesome) Example Hinge 06. What I would like to do is move the front arm by pulling it forward, and then let the rest of the model follow at the joints as if connected.

Quit screwing around with AE plugins and just make your own freaking program. Seems like allI use AE for anymore is to launch VC plugins and then render 😄

HEyyyy Andrew !
I just have one question about E3Dv2.
Is your amazing plugin considering SLI technologie (2 GPU) i just answer because i have 2 EVGA - GEFORCE GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 - 4GO in SLI mode and would like if E3D can use both GPU. If not, could you tell me if this is planned in the futur of E3D.
Many thanks from paris FRANCE

Hello.

I would like to custom the texture inside of Element.

Like Andrew does 13 minutes in "Flight Control".
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/flight_control

But now the textures are all .dds files. And I must use jpeg or png to custumize?!
I can´t import .dds into after Effects. How do I work around this?
I would like to use the new stuff in Pro Shaders 2. But the diffuse is all .dds files.

Rock on!

Hi, I don't know why, but when I used tracking animation (that property to spread letters out) on text layers, it used to work on extruded text before V2. But now it doesn't, it just freezes on the tracking value of the first keyframe D: What do I do? (and sorry for my English)

Hey Andrew,

Is there any way to do an effective reveal OR a write-on effect??

Is there an effective way to use masks over a custom text/mask layer? I have a line graph from illustrator that I auto-traced and brought into e3dv2 to extrude, once out of the UI, I added a mask to the empty e3dv2 layer, but it doesn't recognize any added points or feathering, etc. Basically, I want to reveal the line graph, but at this point it only gives me a hard edge.

Also- I find that if I make adjustments and keyframe custom paths for said custom text/mask layer, it causes some strange results, where I have to move the camera to "refresh" the frames, but even then, some of the frames remain the original shape- kind of spikes back and forth.

Thanks for your work!

This is a good question, as for the mask drawing on not updating, unfortuneatly this is a limitation of AE and the plug-in SDK, perhaps we could talk to Adobe about supporting it more directly, they are usually very open to ideas that help the program do more.

But if I wanted to grown on a title... you could use the animation Engine to animate it on progressively by character but not exactly growing on.

I would like to thank Andrew for all Element 3D V2 users. So huge upgrade. There is very powerful function in "advanced" material section called "Alpha threshold" for me. Finally I can add green screen footage as material to plane model and with "Alpha threshold" implement it directly to screen. After that to create reflection or shadow or both together on the bottom plane. It saves my time so much and it provides to create really realistic complex of obj. and "live" green screen footage together. It would be fun to make some tutorial from you Andrew with it. I think it will help to create some music video-clip or some short movies in real time. Thank you very much for all.

Ok I have another question...PLEASE tell me how you change the two side by side parameters (UV repeat 10 x 10) so quickly??? I click on the the left on, it highlights it, and then I always struggle to get the cursor in JUST the right spot to get to select to parameter on the right. You do it almost instantly..(or is this an edit?)

    Hit Tab.

Koz, after changing the left parameter, hit "tab" on your keyboard.

Nice! What is the difference/advantage of using the size XY(ex. for the plane primitive) and scaling? I've noticed scaling isn't reflected in the the XY size parameter(and vice versa), and neither one increases the amount of polys/tri's.

Thanks again for the tut!
I like to use primitive options and use scale as a secondary value. Mainly so that you do not have to work with a scale value of 50 batrilllion.
    Koz
Oh well in that case, I'll definitely use .0001 in the primitive size options. Then I can tell clients "Yeah, we tend to use scale sizes in the batrillions) man, that's gonna get SO much work..:)

I love that flake paint effect!

Andrew is there any way of faking a holofoil texture? You know, that shiny reflective material you sometimes get on product packaging, it creates a rainbow of colours when the light hits it. Like a compact disc.

I've never seen this texture done in computer rendered 3D, but if anyone can figure out a way to fake it then it's probably you :)
