Element 3D V2: New Specular Model!

Of the many new featuresannounced with Element 3D V2 (so far), there is one I am particularly excited about and that isthe new specular highlight model.

The new spec model takes advantage of the new physical shader system and featuresa natural light falloff helps create more realistic shaders! You can even get the specular to be much smaller and sharp or large and diffused. May seem like a small thing but it makes a big difference!

Hola ANDREW KRAMER.

Andrew I think I have come across a bug with the current version of element. element city pack objects do not react to the change in value of the falloff and radius of a point light. It could just be my version but if it is not.. you may want to fix this in element v2

Just for fun, while we are waiting, let's guess on the pricing and release date.

I say $199.95 for E3D v2 and $49.95 to upgrade from a previous version. Release date, Nov 24th, 'cause you know his wife is gonna kill him if he's doing this over Thanksgiving!

I'm curious, with the Oculus coming out. And the demand for 360 deg. video content goes up. Does the great Andrew Kramer have any ideas on how compositing could be done in such a medium? As far as I know, 360 content right now is limited to guided tours. Much like the begininng 2d cinematic videos 100, years ago. Is 360 video only going to be possible by huge company with major capital? Or can a regular guy, with the right gear. Make something incredible?

What's with the aliasing in the reflection in v2.0? v1.6 looks far sharper - which isn't always what you want, I know, but v2.0 looks a little low-res.

I agree that we shouldn't be rude or demanding, however he isn't making this product as a charity, he is selling it to his customers, i.e. us. So it stands to reason when we see the amazing progress he and the team has made in this incredible update, many of us are waiting with projects for E3D v2.

I personally think software development is one of that hardest things anyone can do, but as it is november it would be nice to at least give us the official release date and pricing. All the cool extra features, and tutorials can wait until the products actual release.

I woke from a horrible dream last night that the reason for still no pricing info on E3DV2 and a new website reveal this week was because Video Copilot went to a subscription model. Hey Andrew,

Wanted to ask a question, have you seen any issues with E3D v2 when it comes to Yosemite 10.10? Noticed when I upgraded that my adobe creative cloud is not working as well as it did due to some plugins from mediacore. Would this be something that could be affected as well or is E3d installed in a different location? Weird question I know. Still excited!!

V2 is exciting news. However, we've been struggling managing AE/Element projects in our render farm. As we're about to buy some new blades I have been advised the best card we can get into the blades is Nividia Quadro K620 (The current farm has matrox G200 cards). Is that going to be enough to render projects on a blade when the original AE projects were created on Quadro4000 cards? We used Deadline render management software if that matters.

The button on/off of each layer is great (i have asked for this since the V1), but we stiil have to open the group to activate it...

Andrew, is it now possible to add model parts to a specific group rather than using a material or texture? Sometimes I model complex geometry in Lightwave but don't always use UV maps. With the new shading features in E3D V2, I will use those more often but cant if the models rely on assigned textures for group assignment.

A great feature to include that I think would not be too hard to implement would be a system to create some basic 3D bezier splines (or import them) and have our animated objects follow these paths.

This would work great for an array of objects (cars on a track for example)

I used this array technique for a race in this Wipeout for PS4 render but had to manually animate the path they travelled. Align to spline would be amazing

Alright everybody, let's all vote on what Element packs we want for Element 3D! I think if enough of you guys reply to this saying what you want and why you want it, it will get Andrew's attention, and maybe he'll work on it!

So one that I think would be really cool is a "space pack." As we all know Andrew did the end title sequence for Star Trek Into Darkness this would be amazing. He could have some unique planets, maybe some 4k space enviroments, there could even be a few stars that could be animated (as in the heat coming off it.) Andrew I hope you take this into consideration, and anybody else be sure to let us know what you would like to see in E3D!

By the way, does anybody know if the Element packs already installed will be put into Element V2? I'm guessing so but I just want to be 100% sure.
lordedington
Space pack would be good. Planets, asteroids, comets, moons, a proper Saturn model with decent rings, shuttles, ISS, satellites, 4K space environments, the sun, earth, astronauts etc
Elliot
Yes I agree, all of that or at least some of it in a pack would be tremendous. I am pretty darn sure there will be a Pro Shaders 2.

Also I think there could be a automobile pack, Andrew has shown off some car models in tutorials before so I think that could be a large pack.

I'm having crashing issues with e3d. Scene is unusual size. 7106x1080. Will v2 be more stable for large comps (like 4k resolution and larger)
Unfortunately it is not a matter of software stability in this case, but simply the graphics card doesn't have enough memory to render at that resolution.

Textures, models, passes, ambient occlusion etc, all of these things use up memory like filling a glass of water. When the glass runs out of space (memory), it overflows. The key is to limit your memory usage by reducing Multi-Sampling to save memory and using Super Sampling which uses less.

I will say that we have reduced the amount of memory needed for many operations but rendering at that resolution is almost 4 times as many pixels as HD requires a loaded gpu.
SND
Andrew is right.
They have used 6 GB hardcoded card for Title sequence of Startreck at 2K/4K (idk) which resolution.

Sodefinetly it depends upon what Gcard you have .. according to that.. you will render that quality of high render bro..

I tried 2k Element comp render with my middle end 1GB card it support it.. But 4k is not supporting with same card
Used 4GB graphics card.. it (4K) support there easily..
SND
You are talking about 8K resolution.. bro
And its too short in height.. so it might be complicated for your card. Ateast you should use 6GB card.. for that
Ian
What about Element3D for print designs? So far i always had to chose 2k resolution to compensate for the 'low' DPI (72). What about now? Do you guys have any solution? So far my prints were relatively small, but what if i need to have bigger? I will have to use this 8k or something too? I could use 3DsMax but Element has way better/faster/easier to do results..
wes
There's only 1 screen in the world that large. good to see e3d being put to some good use on the 8k screen
11 years ago
@Ian - print requires nothing more than a high resolution image. DPI is a print quality parameter and given the same image changing the DPI just means you can print a larger image at coarse print settings or a smaller image at finer print settings. If you're printing an A4 image at 300DPI needs 3525 pixels in width, yet printing at 150DPI needs only half that!
Unless you're printing high-quality posters there is almost never a need to go beyond 4k for normal A3/A4 print and brochures.
Hope this sheds some light on that. If you'd like more info - feel free to drop me a line on 'info [at] pixelflux [dot] net'

AWESOME Can't wait! We use Element on almost every project at some capacity, and knock clients socks off every time! Whether Motion Graphics or VFX E3D has become a go to staple at our studio so of course V2 will be added to the aresonal! Hey Andrew are you coming to Chicago anytime soon? You should come speak at half res with Nick Campbell regarding C4D and E3D V2 implementation, work-arounds and workflow.
hahaha aresonal, didn't catch it before I sent it. lol
11 years ago
Can you add some modifiers effects like bend the text and Twist it and some other like in 3D max modifiers?
Jeff
If I could add my wish list, the obj sequence is very slow to render once outside of Element 3D and back in the work area of AE. Is it possible to do something about this? I was thinking that if Element 3D could create a video file once setting the global parameters (e.g., animation, size, location, etc). In other words, skip the AE rendering for the 3D object. AE will see the Element 3D object as a video file.
Unfortunately, OBJ files need to be loaded for every frame with an animation sequence, there is not really a good way to cache this without using up all your GPU memory.
Jeff

Thanks, Andrew. There's just no fast way to render animation. How am I gonna make the next Avengers movie at this rate.

Totally Awesome!

But, I did have one feature, that I didn't see addressed in your video.
Transparency in your textures! i.e., if you use a PNG that has transparency, on a flat plane. Currently, element doesn't handle it that well. It's pretty chunky. Even with using the Threshold options.
Would love to see that worked out!

I don't fully understand what this means (all old VCP models don't work with this?), but it looks filthy. Very well done! You don't realize what you're missing out on until you see the old put next to the new

I'm sure that you will explain this in time, but I'm wondering if this is a "setting" that can be adjusted for all 3d models/primatives/text, independent of the model or if this specular highlight feature requires a model that is optimized for this effect in Element 2.

Thanks again!

I´m looking forward for this update. But I wonder if there will be also obj sequence export? Anyway guys, what do you think about this shield I made? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85DRTzPX2D4

I think it's alright. For the future I think watching this tutorial and trying out some of the cool tricks would help to make the shield look more powerful.

A bit off topic, it reminds me of my latest use for Element 3D:

Ooooh! Shiny! As a graphics magpie I am extremely attracted to this
Specularity is, of course, a non-realistic shader cheat but this just got less unreal-erer.

Wow. Look at this realism. I mean.. are we gonna see this car in realtime? I still can't believe it.

Thank you very much. You Really helped a lot of people, Mr Andrew. I hope you get what you deserve@to be rich, live healthy long and prosper with your loved ones.
Hi Andrew Kramer, Congratulations on your conference was great friend, I congratulate you ... And I congratulate you for your great creation, and the second version, Element V2 3D, I loved it.
Dude, I have an Nvidia Quadro 600 card, endure the process of the graphs in this new version?

Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. VIDEO COPILOT... YEAH!!

Can't wait for the V2 to be released! But Andrew, WE NEED some option to get LIGHT WRAP! It's too tricky and time consuming to precomp, duplicate cam etc PLUS, if you move the camera, you have to precomp everything again... If your sorcerer stick can make shadows come true, then I'm sure you guys at VC can add a lightwrap option in the Render Settings tab.
There is free script by VC for this.

Does their free 3D pre-compose plugin not help with this problem? I'm just asking because I genuinely do not know.
I think the free plug in genuinely had a few bugs. I tried several times to use it and it kept crashing AE. I read several other users had the exact same issue and as far as I know, it wasn't addressed and an updated version was never released.

Eh, Andrew's way better than Santa Claus, I mean look at Andrew, he actually exists. Now I doubt I need to worry about breaking a little kid's heart, there shouldn't be any here....

More control is always a good thing. Have we seen all of the features in v2 now or do you have more surprises up your sleeve?
hehe... what do you think?

I think I'll be pretty disappointed if there's no magic wish-granting genie included in this release

I'm hoping there's an 'Andrew will do this for you' button, similar I guess to your genie button Jayomd.

I think Andrew will not tell us half the details of Element version 2. He'll wait till we get settled and we think we know it, then he'll throw a couple tutorials that will blow all of our minds.

What I want to know from Andrew is...when are you planning your IPO?

You've done a remarkable job of avoiding Adoughbe's siren's call to the nca abyss.

You're a smart kid with little mouths to feed.
That's all the makin's of a really creative
business that will go far!

Ver. 2.0 is nice...I'm waiting for Ver 10!

Mr Kramer : we're October 30, and I just submitted a motion test for an upcoming prod for which V2 would really be a godsend. It's due to start next week, and I'll be sorry to be stuck with V1 for having worked on it only the first few days. I need a plan.
Please, please... would it be safe to assume that ANIMATION work (NOT materials or rendering/ouptut menu options) done on V1 would port flawlessly on V2 ? thank you in advance.

nice mr cramer its the future in design 3D we can make the impossible things with our brains
