Siggraph Presentation at Maxon Booth
August 7th, 2012

Tomorrow morning at 10:30 am (pacific time), I'll be presenting at the Maxon booth to talk about cinema 4D integration with Element and if you are around LA, you should stop by. It's free! I'll try to hang around afterwards for a little while and I would love to meet everyone personally.

Yes, you can import your own 3D models into Element.

I missed it! With 15 minutes to go we had a problem at work that I had to fix so I had to log off and do my job.

What happened yesterday on the LiveStreaming? I could see the guy before Andrew then closed the window, reopened it a moment later and the website could load.. Server crash?

Geez Andrew... what's it feel like to be in the 2% now?

Great presentation today as usual.
Multi-passes - do I have to bake out all of those passes in C4D and then plug them in individually, or is it like a multi-layer PSD? How did you do it for all the model packs?

Hi Jef-aram, you should try blender to fracture some objects, it works with element unless you bought object pak with prefractured objects.

Hey Dean, thanks for the tip. I have used Blender some years back, but I didn't know they had a way of fracturing objects. Is it a a standard feature or do you need to install a plugin?

Great Job Today! I had a small idea for a change with Element.. Is there any way to get an eyedropper to capture screen color in the color pickers? I know its not relevant here but was just using Element and thought how nice it would be to have it to match colors from the screen.. Anyways, Great Job Today!

Cool presentation! Missed the beginning w/the room & lights coming in through a window..? The discussion of custom/animated reflections was interesting, and integrating 3D terrain is a neat area to explore.

...The Q&A girl was cute, but I don't know what she was supposed to be helping you with, other than pushing you off camera. Maybe that was their goal? "Stick to narrating, Kramer! Here's a female to look at instead, you nerds!"

Hey Andrew, in the demo video you revealed that A) you've sneakily been using Element in videos/tutorials for quite some time, and B) you made the Fringe opening titles using Element. Are there any other TV/film works you've used it/are using it on that you can tell us about?

Hey, very interesting live presentation Andrew!
I've got a situation right here.
I have problems viewing Elements in other camera views (like Front or Top view). The overall scene that I've setup like lights etc. work in other views but the object from elements stays in it's position from the active camera view. Any solution for this? or am I just doing something wrong?

First off, great presentation! I had a question: What's in store for Element in the future, and will it be able to do real physics simulations.

On a side note the online viewers went down by about 1500 when you left.

Hey Andrew,

In the live session @ Siggraph you answered a question about how to make fractured objects and animations look more realistic by re-fracturing parts of the fractured model.

I understand this conceptually, but practically, I am new to the whole fracturing 3D objects in your favorite 3D modeling package thing. That is, I haven't yet found a quick and effective way to fracture a 3D object.

So hence my question on whether you could provide tips and/or good references to learn how to do this. I am currently working with 3DS max 2012, but I am willing to try out other software if that would make it easier.

Just google for fracture script for max 2012 or you could use rayfire plugin it's very simple

Bravo, bravo. A triumph. I hope those in attendance don't keep asking about raytraced reflections in Element. How many times can a person be expected to answer a question that is covered not only in the Element tutorials but during the actual presentation itself? Enjoyed it a lot. Even though we all knew he was hating the Mac and yearning for 3DSMax.

Andrew, I had a question after your presentation at Siggraph... So is it possible to export high poly terrain models and textures from programs like vue or terragen and then import to element 3d to render fast and without flickers? (i think i
saw a snowy mountain render in you demo)

Can you export lights to elements from a C4d scene, that will affect all the groups? Or do you have to do all the lighting in AE?

*I tried posting this question earlier but it got stuck pending*

I???m having trouble putting custom textures on my models:

What I did was auto-traced my jpg.. extruded it in element.. and then attempted to take that same jpg to create the texture with no luck. It came out distorted and was not correct. I???m unsure how to do this properly. PLEASE HELP

Also, is it possible to update my AMD graphics card? Because I am not seeing driver updates on it???s website. My current card is AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB

Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah, I watched Nick Campbell before Andrew and the live streaming worked fine. Right before Andrew came on the Live streaming stopped and I couldn't get back on. I noticed there was an Archives tab on the c4dlive web site so I hope we can just watch a recording.

This is making laugh .What did people think when ANDREW said think outside the box with element 3d ?

Now people are seeing this screen then light bulbs are going off !!
ELEMENT 3D kicks butt with 3d text in AE.But it's more then that!

Imagine recreating Andrews jungle text tutorial .. but with 3d leaves this time and real text and vines etc.... ;-0

People mostly focus on what it can not do.Let me ask this. How many people could import/manipulate/Fast render a "real" 3D object in AE prior to July 10th ? is there a script for that somewhere ?

same here as soon i saw that Screenshot, a lot of ideas came to my mind....with a great composition and some actors in green screen you can great a lot of great stuff with it..
sample :
- create the Keyout Comp with the actor and everything.
- add the Keyout comp to a new layer
- create a solid for elemend 3d and add a custom layer (the keyout layer it is)
- load the 3D Model Scene in Group (1) and the Custom layer in Group (2) (this way both will interact better (you know Floor, Ceiling, Walls better alignment and such)
- Align everything so it can work great
- some color correction and render this thing out.

well this is just and idea that pop-up when i saw this
