There's someone on the wing, some......thing! Actually it's a new VFX test I've always wanted to do involving an airplane interior. So yesterday we shot this plate of Sam & Tino on the greenscreen with a slow dolly movement. But, while enjoying the in-fight entertainment, they see something outside. Don't worry it's not snakes, but I'll be posting the final shot next week with some tips and a breakdown. See ya then!

I use key light to compose green screen , I think is the best tool for PC and MAC platform, when we have good lighting, the possibilities of correcting color, textures and finishes to give much more extensive. This video was well pre-production planning, I see the brightness of the front of the person beside the window gives you a very natural light in his face. I would like that you sharing us more tutorials with scripts. Thanks Andrew

We have a full sized plane cabin at the college for travel and tourism to play in.
Just got a 7D so this look like the ideal tutorial for me.
Won't even need to green screen!

I assume there is a third seat between Sam & the side of the plane - or is it just planes over in europe that cram you in like sardines?
Looking forward to this - played with green screen a lot a while back and very disappointed - then I used better lighting and wow what a difference and so easy to key! Lighting is the key (sorry for the pun)

Very nice! The airplane looks very roomy though. Just feels like there's alot of space between Tino and the window.

Obviously going to crash the plane because.............................Sam is in it.
Lets wait and see.

Ohh for a green screen and a DSLR
looking good Andy Are you going to add a little lens blur on the background plate? it looks a little sharp when you compare the shallow DOF you have on your SAM, the guy in front of him is a little out of focus so the background should also be a little bit. I always find adding DOF to your vfx shots is the key to realistic comps. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

Very cool stuff. Hoping there is going to be a follow-up video where the plane crashes. Maybe Sam survives...Tom Cruise style...ah maybe not...
Hi! I was acting in the same kind of aeroplane scene in Finnish TV commercial last year. Just outside the plane. This whole scene was shot in front of a green screen and 3D modelled passenger plane was added later in the post production.

Does it involve tracking? Because I'm always happy to learn more tracking stuff. Nice grade. The bg blends in nicely.

Hi Andrew, can you tell me when Elements is coming? And can you do a tutorial on color correcting a black video layer? And can you do a tutorial on how to do a whiskerectomy on my cat? And can you teach me to fly a helicopter? And I noticed that Sam's shirt doesn't match his socks. And, and, and....Good Grief!
Seriously, Andrew, a heartfelt thanks for all you do. I've learned more from working through your tutorials than from 6 months of "official" AE training elsewhere. Your tutorials are clear, concise, and quite useful. Your sense of humor is...well...pretty much as bad as mine and your tongue-in-cheek comments during the tutorials only add to the enjoyment of following them. Even as I roll my eyes at your comments sometimes (well, ok, all the time), I still chuckle.
Finally, thanks also for your products. They're well worth the money, so much so that I would say you need to increase your prices (but then again, that would mean I'd have to pay more for them so I won't say that.)

Hi
How did you get the airplane interiour image? Is it taken by yourself or anyone you know, or "shopped"?

Hello! We tried something similar in our short film "Travellers... By Mistake". We included interior shots and an exterior shot that started from the outside of the window, and ended looking at the entire airplane.
You can watch the VFX Breakdowns for the film here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWfnUn5yRiI . The airplane part is at 3:30.
Thanks!

Thx to the whole crew and the pilot of the plane.

Thx to the whole crew and the pilot of the plane.
Now that I think about it. Sam would be great I think for this kind of role. What other roles do you think Sam would be good at? Heres my list.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty -Danny Kaye's Role
2010 (Space Odyssey) -John Lithgow's Role
LOTR -The Role of Sam of Course!

Thank you very much Andrew, Sam, and VCP for helping me to learn to plan out green screen and special effects shots. If you sold a DVD that showed me how to plan out green screen video and other video planning for special effects shots I would certainly buy it.
Thank you again.
Thank you again.

Maybe be older ones of you
D will remember "Twilight Zone - The Movie" in the 80's... Just watch the episode "Nightmare at 20,000 feet", then you will know what is on the wing... I will let surprise myself what Kramer invented
Michael from Germany (one of the older ones)

They are too away from the window... or it is just perspective? The window have to be more in the middle
There's also the Czechoslovakian "Pan Tau" movies from the 70s/ early 80s in one of which he's driving aviators and airport personnel crazy by appearing on the wing of an airplane and dancing on it... Could be fun. Though an alien fighter scraping by would be just as good...

Hi Andrew,
I'm looking forward to that one! One thing that bugs me is that the window and the wall seem to be too far away from sam. I don't know what it is, maybe just a little soft shadow that's not there yet but it looks like the wall is about one meter (or about 40 inches
away from him. Maybe his neighbour just went to the toilet and everything is alright
