Clarification...

So I posted an old out-take from some old footage and there were a few people that didn't believe the shot was real (possibly because our Failed BlogShow Video).

Well to fair, I may have been tricky with the way I cropped the original shots... so here is the full un-cropped shot that clearly show the Air Canon in the background. Of course some people say "Don't believe anything your read", I say "Don't believe anything you see".

But in this case... believe what you want. The truth is out there.

well i still dont believe its real, according to the fire colour, its like ur fire is on screen mood, and the dirt or whatever came out with the fire is way faster than the shooting speed .......

I´ve noticed that you´ve deleted some frames from the original shot...but, i´ve recovered the full sequence using a complex frame blending process hidden at Windows Movie Maker...and here is the resulting frame:

you should have filled the canon with fish to match the tag in the bg LOL maybe a raining fish tutorial. only joking. any chance of a decent explanation of the graph editor for keyframes as they always seem a little odd. trial and error for me.

Hi Andrew if this shot is real, would lover to see more stuff like this shot in the desert with real rock backgrounds . Hell I'd be interested in the out takes un matted , Ones mans rubbish is anothers gold.
They give good clues to the interaction of transparency with backgrounds.
The sunglasses are pushing it here not Wayfarers it must be faked

lol.. awesome. I would love to know how you pulled the matte. I just took my rifle out to get some shots of bullet hits, debris and such but had to use a blue screen. Mostly because I have no idea how else to do it. Colorama maybe? Would love to know.

Haha It still looks FAKE as Paris Hilton But I believe it is not fake at all... You know that in 1969. they were shooting high budget movie in Yugoslavia with Yul Brynner, Orson Welles etc. Anyway, they had to destroy a big bridge in one scene. So they built actual expensive bridge only to destroy it. However it looked very fake. So they repeated shot on a small scaled model, and kept that shot instead because it was more convincing. So...

It looked real.
But to tell the truth, the debris falling from the explotion weren't so believable so it ruined the first shot.
But that was an old footage...

What if the canon in the background was placed there just like the new Magic Tracking Tutorial and placed the explosion there to make it look like its the canon creating the fire ball. Lol just a thought. I Love this site.

Hahaha. If he says it's real... it's probably real. I personally think it's like the 3D glass pan shot... it looked a little "fake" but was total real... And an air cannon can actually make it look like that. It's not really burning anything, so that explains the limited smoke... The only thing I would ask andrew is how did you have the exposure set correctly? Even with such a bright scene, fire is usally way brighter and your white clip didn't do much compressing. This is a serious question. Thanks.

Pretty crazy to step through that frame by frame. It looks like it pumps out a burst of gas which distorts the air and then looks like the air just ignites itself rather than a burst of flame emanating from the cannon.

it's defiantly hard to see whether the cropped shot has real fire in it. of course we can now all see this is indeed real..
