We've produced a mini-film to demonstrate the VFX shots covered in the new training series. There are basically 2 shots in the film we will be working on from start to finish. The first will be demonstrate compositing your 3D animation in After Effects without 3D tracking, similar to the set extensions tutorial but more advanced. The other shot will cover matchmoving 3D animation for AE compositing. Both shots are pretty exciting and cover a wide range of information and tricks. This is not a Short-Cuts tutorial

Admin Note: I don't like to bring this up but as a community we need to remember to maintain the atmosphere with regards to some comments on the blog. There will be times, like this past month when I may have projects that take me outside of Video Copilot but this is just an opportunity for me to bring back new information and knowledge. I want people to see the great individuals that visit here and feel excited to participate. Remember to relax, be patient and you WILL learn cool stuff. And please, no need to apologize, this is just a reminder. I want to keep us on the right track!

yeah, god knows how many times he records the tutorial before he gets it perfect. I hear the audio cuts between segments of the tutorial. Unless he stops,..goes upstairs, feeds the baby, cuts the grass etc.. and then continues with the tutorial?

i think they need some time to make everything ready. after all thsi is a training series. not a 20 minutes VFX tutorial. this will be boujou,3D studio max and AE. there will be tons of stuff.

well i get crazy excited every time i look at the tutorials , some time i get so excited i don't know which tutorial im going to do first .. lol. its like we all are gods...and we can create anything and make it look so real.. well maybe not gods but... To all of thoses who demand tutorials... how many of you can do ALL 71 of Andrews tutorials with their eyes shut..? If you can't, go back and study them again and do your own stuff BASED on Andrews teachings, and THEN come back and demand all you want.

Yesterday I saw new Batman movie and gotta say that Two Faces is an INCREDIBLE job! Perfect coordination with life actor, yet clearly CG animated half of the face... That brings me to idea - MR ANDREW! Obviously you cannot do tutorial every time some new effect in a movie appears, but maybe you can spare a while and just write a short idea, something like "How I would approach big Hollywood FX". I do not say you know EXACTLY how they do things like that - just how you think something simmilar can be done.
Ofcourse just an idea. I love all "making of" kinda things

Have a nice weekend, do not worry about whinners. Its free stuff theyre waiting for - what they gonna do - sue you? Or maybe go... exactly - where else? LOL

Carlos is right.

A "pay-per-tutorial" solution would be great for me, above all since i??´m spying lots of shared VCP-Products on P2P networks i also would agree on a download-only option for the products with a unique coupon/serial you receive after payment. this would mean mor tweaking for the website integrating a bullet-proof CMS/Webshop.

why this?

I figured that people on the VCP site would start to get snippy because you have not produced a tutorial in a hot minute.
THE VISITORS TO THE SITE ARE TOO SPOILED.
Man they don't even know that before your site people like me had to search all over the net for separate tutorials of photoshop and after effects in order to even try some of the projects that you present.
Sites like creative cow are good but they show good tricks IN separate tutorials but you show how to apply the tricks to a practical project. you have taken mograph training to the next level.
I mean most of your simple tutorials display at least 6-7 photoshop and after effects trick to create a practical project.
So to all the impatient fools and haters on the site, use this time to practice experimenting on different ideas.

yo man take as long as you like, but the thing this site needs is a user video upload to keep us visiting this site other than for new tutorials and the forum, somthing where some users can upload their tutorials or their videos.


just suggesting btw your awsome man and idk what I would do with just my AAE and myself i would be stuck doing nothing exept glow, and ghetto text.

Sweet, I like that you include one that doesn't require 3d tracking software, so people like me can do it. Then people like me can go watch the other one and buy the software.

I hope the whole thin is in that super panavision aspect ratio.

I recently discovered this website , never was in need of using AE until now, but i gotta say Andrew just rocks, never seen a better tutorials not photoshop not flash not other programs, it's just the way you make them man. They are funny, interesting and end results are beyond imagination.

I'm exited to see what you've got there. I've just recently started on AE, and the truth is: it's because of YOUR tutorials Andrew. You are able to explain things very well and spicing things up with a little joke now and then is great. You really are doing a great job!
I've always wondered how it's possible to add 3D models into previously shot footage, which has taken a big boom in modern movies of any kind.

So basically: I'm excited to see what you've got cooking! Oh, one more question: Will the tutorial materials have a 3D model which will be used in it? I don't have any experience in 3D modeling, and therefore a tutorial that incorporates everything is going to be highly appreciated!

Hello.
I think the forums is much more interesting since there is a discussion on how to do things. There are so many ways to complete the same thing in ae, and i love reading about why you should do it in a specific way. The tutorials that video copilot is putting up are great and I've seen them all, however, most people dosent seem to get creative with them. I mean, Ive seen the same custom particle from the light streak tutorial in a bunch of clips and even in some commercial projects. Witch is a cool thing, but in another way sad thing.
The same thing goes for a bunch of other stuff to.

Now I'm not saying that the tutorials is bad in any way. I love them. I guess I'm just trying to say that the forums is awesome. So thanks for providing that!

I think this is awesome, I love the visual effects stuff. Have you thought of trying to combine a miniature shot against green screen into a digital matte environment using the 3D camera tracking? That would be sweet. Cant wait to see how you accomplish this meteor shot!
