Why doesn't adobe include it altogether with AE? I like C4d just like anyone else but at the end of the day Element 3d is way faster and better integrated to AE than cinemaware.

Im having a PROCESSOR:core i5 4th gen 4440(3.1 Ghz),MOTHER BOARD: Asus H97-plus, RAM:8GB DDR-3,GRAPHICS CARD: Nvidia GeForce GT 610(2gb asus), and a 500 gb hard disk. Will this be enough for running element 3d 2.0. Will it have some problems while working with it. Will it be slow and will it not be able to perform any of the features of element 3d 2.0. Please answer, please help!
With kind regards,
Shanmu.

Yes, at last, you can select a material layer in the preview window, what a great feature Andrew, Kudos to you and the team. V2 looks amazing, can't wait.
A few questions:
1. Andrew when is the official launch of V2?
2. What new packs are being released in conjunction with V2?
3. Are there any new update packs for Jetstrike for the foreseeable future?

I keep watching the video... It's like "nerd porn" and the only way to pacify me until the actual plugin is released.
All of us at Atomic Kid are looking forward to the release!

Hi Andrew Kramer :
Thank you for the amazing plugin, i have been using it for sometime now and i can absolutely say you took after effects to a different league, i have one question if i may ask about the After Effects interface you are using in this video, is this a new version of after effects or what? the blue theme is amazing.

First, this thing is awesome Andrew!!
Second, I was thinking that what all new possibilities could be discovered with a Timeline in Element..

Hi I am considering purchasing V1.6 now, but since there is news of V2, I am wondering do I hold back and wait for the new launch or buy it first and top up a bit as an upgrade option...
I really want to get started to play with this, so is there a launch date for V2?
Its looking so awesome, great work @videocopilot everyone!

Will there be a way to hide a reflection from a layer so that we would not have to see the reflection of that lightbox on the floor?

Hi Andrew, first congratulations for this great stuff, second I have a question, if I want to buy a graphic card what it would be better?, a Gtx 690 ,a Nvidia Geforce Gtx Titan Black 6 Gb, or a Nvidia Quadro K4000 3gb? which one would give me a better performance and better general conditions for rendering and previews...
don't take in mind the price, just better work and efficient.

Andrew, Andrew... you really are too good to us, ya know?
I was wondering if Extrude options could ever be expanded to allow you to extrude at an angle of your choice, as opposed to only perpendicular to the surface. Hope that makes sense.
I can't tell you how blown away I was watching that product demo, man. I only have my job because of you.
Thank you from London.

Nice update! Thank you. What i looking forward to see is how to use EV2 on text animations in a creative way. Text etc. objects has been even forgotten behind all these helicopters and stuff. I don´t actually mind about how to make action or war scenes. What i´m using Element for is making a fast and delicious (also selling) texts for commercials.. and i believe that i´m not only one. Element is way faster that cinema 4d for this purpose. I would hope to see some features, tutorials what ever how to make your text really stand out with element v2.

Thank you all, this looks like an incredible step forward - can I pre-order and will there be an open or invited beta? If so I'd love to join. Very well done!
New ideas for Element 3D.
* What if Element 3D is a standalone program, so we can change materials, and animate Element in it, add text and Draw a shape, and do some edit, without the need to be like the rest program properties, I mean modeling, so when we Finished Our work, we go to AE and make a new comp and put Element 3D filter just like Cinema 4D filter in AE... make some light and Optical Flares, make cinematic look bla bla and that's it.
* What if Element 3D has a workspace including the timeline like AE, and user have choice to Chooses user interface ... 3D Max ,Cinema 4D, Maya .. the 3 choice are available.
* Share with the community Our materials and bevels, like the Digital Juise font products.
that what I have about New ideas for Element 3D.

Well done. The main reason I stopped using Element 3D was because of the lack of ray tracing and physical shaders. But now that you guys have incorporated ray tracing along with allowing us to use After Effects's built in animation system with key-frames makes this more valuable than Cinema 4D to me. As always, very nice job.

Really looking forward to the Element 3d V2 update! -Got really excited after seeing all the new features.
One question that I have in regard to pricing : Will there be like an 'upgrade price' for people who own Element 3d V1?
(Kinda like most software manufacturers do, upgrading to Protools 10 from Protools 9 was much cheaper for existing customers than just buying protools 10 as a new customer....)
Hope you guys can consider that for the 'early supporters' of your software.
Cheers!

This is an absolute monster! I love the integration of 3D design elements into Element. With the simple shape creater and modifiers as well as the new copy abilities and group structure is epic. actually feels like working within 3DS MAX! Great work and looking forward to purchasing as soon as it is available!

You know what would be great? If Element could function as a GPU render engine within Cinema 4D. Something along the lines of Octane or V-Ray RT, but you know better... cause it is.

Hey andrew,
I know you are busy but I have quite an important question. I have been working on a big project for quite a few months and it is suppose to be done by januari, I have used element in a lot of compositions for the project. now if I update element 3d to version 2.0 will I be able to add those features like shadows in my project. or will it not be compatible?
Thanks for your time.

Could you please add the ability to point all objects towards a NULL. You can make them face the camera or a fixed rotation, but you can't make them point to a NULL. This would be incredibly useful.

Really awesome, but still no option to "distorce and desfrag" the element to make then more abstract like the one announce on the first time: http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2011/06/anouncing-new-plug-in-element/

And now I'm just refreshing this page thrice a day until further E3D stuff is being posted. Pure awesome!
Hey Andrew, I think you're really turning the CG world upside down with this plugin! I'm a 3D artist, I work with 3dsmax and I use AE just for the post production of my renders. But now, every time I start a new project, I have to think if it's really convenient to do all the work in a 3d software or if it could be better to work directly in E3D... It's all real time... no words...

Some excellent work going on here and looking forward to the release! a a problem I sometimes have when importing OBJ or C4D objects is with surfacing. If the normals aren't correctly set, the surfaces just won't react, reflect or whatever. I don't have a separate 3D package as I don't do modelling as such but the surfacing issues I can get from models I get from Turbosquid can make me mad. Is there a way to address this problem within Element, if not now, then in future?

Wow. This is an extraordinary development of an already extraordinary plug in! Very excited to get my hands on it.
Now, the inevitable questions...
In the Star Trek titles tutorial there was a render mode used that didn't exist in the public version of Element, allowing you to screen/add layers. Did that feature make it into v2?
Is it possible to map transparency/opacity in materials in v2?
Thank you for all the hard work - and thanks for the amazing customer service.

Wow! In my opinion Element 3D is one of the greatest plugins ever created for After Effects and it just got better. I will most definitely be buying Element 3D 2 after it comes out. Thanks Andrew and to the Video Copilot team for all of your hard work that you do in general and for all of your hard work that you have put into making Element 3D what it has been, is now, and will be.

Wow Andrew, just simply wow. Everything that I would expect and more!
Looking forward to this a lot.
As if Element3D doesn't set you guys aside enough you had to throw in the typical Kramer jokes. "I've got this engine in here rendering, so you can actually see this working!" Brilliant!
One thing I wonder about is, will there be some kind of discount for people who already own V1, like a version update-discount? Or should we look at it as an entirely new awesome product?

What are the system requirements? Same as for v 1.6 (I hope)?
What about shadows - like the cube reflection on the car in the demo video. Will that be possible?
And this is crucial: Will V2.0 be able to make a good latte? The 1.6 didn´t give enough foam...kinda bummer

So I have c4d lite which I got with AE cc but I am not sure if that would suffice if I want to model in C4D lite n use element to do the rest. As c4d lite does not export to obj

Would I have to invest in a modelling solution too

You guys ROCK @ Video Copilot! Is there a way to have the 3D text curve like in the Universals Studio logo intro?
Well, to chime into the chorus.. yes the update is amazing... staggeringly so in fact. Many things left to cover, and I am sure the coming weeks will bring us that. I have to say though, I am still frothing at the mouth to learn what the extent of the improved C4D integration is. In the next burst of new information that comes, I hope this is at least touched upon.
Congrats Andrew and team. I know these last weeks before release are some of the most stressful.. we're all pulling for you and behind grateful for what you do.

I wonder if besides the incredible E3D 2.0, there will be new packages of models for use with this new version in November.
AK! One big question. Does E3D V2 leverage the power of both chips in a dual-GPU rig like my 12-core Mac Pro with 2 AMD FirePro 700s?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Well, mind is blown, it's ok, videocopilot is the best mind blowing crew around. But something inside whispers: your video card sucks and won't be able to handle it o__O. Will there be an updated list of supported cards? I guess not all those card able to run element v1 can run upcoming massive mind blowing update, right?

This looks amazing! I noticed almost entirely car and chopper models being used, any info on when those packs will be available?
Today.... I'm not kidding, I got divorced. two hours ago in fact. THIS.....news however, takes my mind off it a little :0)
I do have one question though. Will Element version two have the option to name groups as you see them while working inside of After Effects? I've lost count how many times I've opened an older E3D project, not remembering what parts were in what group and had to go back to the element interface for reference. Seeing the name of a group in A E.......is that asking too much?
That aside I'm THRILLED for the new release and so so ready :0)

"Any thought about adding support for Alembic format because that would be super awesome!"
I too would be interested in learning if there are any plans for Alembic support. Also could you shed any additional 'light' on the .exr and .hdr import features (I assume it is just a better environment map but will it interact with the new shaders and the limited ray tracing in more realistic ways).
All great new features shown in that video and I'm very excited to update! Never expected to see things like Ray Tracing or SSS. And as exciting as all the new features are I compliment you guys for also working on improving the overall GUI, such as the ability to dial down quickly to the desired shader controls by clicking on the little icons. Hope those kinds of user enhancements continue to find their way into this great and useful plug-in.

This is more than a plugin, actually this should be a 3d software itself O.o i really appreciate and love the way you turned AE into a 3d supported software ( i mean there are other plugins and ways but E3D is the real deal considering the speed and capabilities!)
I'm really pumped up and i would really be thankfull if you'd answer a few questions that bugs my mind Andrew.So here they go ;
1- Will there be material based layer modes in the V 2.0 ?
2- going beyond the 5 groups is great ! but how about the animation engine? will we be able to animate more than 1 pair of groups with this? and will both the element efect copies work proper while using this? (shadows reflections and such)
3- So all the previous model packs that were released were meant to use with standard shaders, since now the real deal is the physical shaders, will there be a free or reasonably priced update for them ?
4- during the obj sequence imports the only mapping option for the imported animations was the uv mapping, are the other mapping mode suports going to be available with the v 2.0 ?
5- The last thing id like to say is ,a matte reflection option ( like the matte shadow one ) would be great to composite our 3d layers with real footage so maybe in later updates?
Finally i'd like to thank to you and all the VC team for making AE a wayyyy more handy software for us! I just love you all!

This is phenomenal!
I noticed that you had a creature model in your video. Does Video Copilot plan to implement other animation import file types other than OBJ sequences? It seems that with E3D 2.0, you can now do camera blocking as well as lighting for animated films within a compositor as opposed to a 3d application.

Any chance of being able to build and save a custom object in Element 3D? I would love to have the capability of pulling up commonly used models within multiple projects.
Awesome! You and your team rock's!! One question : is the Environment map folder preset we can see in the video will be included with this new version?

Mind Blowing , best plugin ever made for after effect 2nd best is optical Flare
My eyeballs are around here somewhere....mind officially blown! I'm not concerned with the cost because its totally worth it. However, what will be the cost for the extra packs? I know there is gonna be a car pack, a military pack, advanced shader and material pack, environment (trees and bushes) pack and lastly a creature pack? So much to learn so little time! Great job Andrew!

This is amazing! I love all the new features, you guys added so much more than I was expecting. By the time you got to sub-surface scattering I was about ready to jump out of my seat. One thing I hope you guys work on going forward is improving the user interface within the main After Effects view itself. There's got to be something better than twirling down all those options to get to the one you're going for. Still, this is freaking incredible! Great job VC!
Ok... You have absolutly out done yourself here. You've clearly listened carefully to everything your customers have been saying and put together something incredible.
I can't wait to plat with this...
PS: My favorite new feature (even though i love SSS and real time shadows) is the MTL library import. Life just got easier.

Do you have any plans on a nuke integration? Seems like a major rewrite to make it work, but it could become a standard in any vfx pipeline in a matter of days.

Great birthday present, thank you. I think I've seen a "blend mode" option for textures or objects in the Element version you used in your StarTrek Making Of. Or was it textures with an alpha channel? Will there be something like that in Element v2 (please say there will!) or was it something you built just for your work on StarTrek?

However I still have some questions:
- Does the technique to add image based lighting still work, or is it a
new and better way?
- Do V2 support HDRI image files as environment maps?

Hi Andrew,
What if I wanted to transform a car into a robot ? I think 5 groups and 10 channels wouldn't be enough to make a lot of movements! Why there is a limited amount of groups and channels ? I think creating unlimited groups and channels would be great !
Thank you for this insane plug-in, It's not a plug-in already it's a software....

Here I am, I am proud of you, when I saw your demo reel from 2002 in your keynote address at the AE World conference, I couldn't stop my tears, look how far you have come and how passionately you brought us along the way, you earned this, you fought and struggled for us; Here, continents away from your soil, I look up to you, you not only inspire me but millions across the globe. Oh my god, that subsurface scattering. Element 3D V2 looks even more incredible than I thought, so many usefull new options to really enhance the quality of your CGI work to professional levels. Shadows are of course an absolute highlight, that goes without saying.
Element 3D V2 seems to be turning into a viable and fast solution for intricate, professional level CGI work.
Thanks so much for this Andrew, E3D really enables me alot, this combination of a fast, but professional CGI solution is really a powerfull tool.
If there is one thing I would request in E3D that, as far as we know, wont be in V2, how about real displacement maps like Blender cycles uses them? Displacement maps seem to be key to get certain things, like skin, look just right, so it would be an amazing feature to have.

-Are you planning to update the Pro Shaders pack to support the physical shaders?
-If I add refraction qualities to a physical shader, will I be able to see other objects behind it?
-It would also be useful to have a "Affect Spherical Reflection" and "Affect Mirror Plane" option for materials, in the car scene the lightbox was visible on the ground
-What about blending modes and mesh distortions?
-"Mystery Feature"?

Excellent upgrade. I just realished the with the 'spherical reflection' and 'hide from camera' options enabled, you can basically create a 'softbox effect'. I thought that the 'enable shadows' would be the best feature but you've proven me wrong! Congratulations to the whole Video Copilot team.

Put physics in it, and sculpting tools... Release more model packs, add MORE GROUPS! (whoa, joke)
But, seriously... When you turned the white cube on and dragged it around... I sat there and thought, 'What the hell is that smell?'... And realised it was the stench of my own breath... So I closed my gaping mouth!

This is so cool, but I can't help myself thinking of standalone Element 3D application, just look at this horrible performance AE's built-in viewport gives when clearly you guys have higher frame rates rendering it independently of After Effects.

This all looks amazing and I absolutely can not wait to get it, but I do have one quick qiestion. Did you get around to implementing object blending modes? I remember that was what you used in the Into Darkness titles to make the cloudy nebulous look but it wasn't actually a feature in the current version of element. Will it be implemented in V2?

There is one thing which is bugging me though looking at the city scene with shadows, it looks like the shadows have the same sharpness throughout so is there a way to make them start off sharp and gradually soften, the more far away they go from an object? Or did I just miss that?

Excellent, all I hoped for and more.
This animation was made in version 1.6 of Element: http://youtu.be/ezT1ckWjSWg
I had to fake the shadows, manipulate part of the light reflections manually, juggle to adjust my script to just 5 parts to animate per 3D object. Imagine what Element v2 would have meant to me while producing this.
Element v2 really seems to take 3D in After Effects more out of the Motion Graphics domain, and really into some very acceptable Compositing, as well as some more serious Animation, while not giving up on speed.
I'm looking forward to getting a bit of facetime myself with this very exciting upgrade.

The week before the release, we shall all be camping outside your office. Then we'll remember it's a download... Element 3d made life worth living again, now it's worth living twice, I'll duplicate myself and get unified to have the best of "both" worlds.
It's really just wonderful. There's even features I didn't know I wanted. Let there be SSS! (now I can make a fleshTank) My top, heart racing, leg-jiggling features are those related to animation. First I had to stop putting explosions in wedding videos. Now I have to stop putting helicopters and armored/armoured cars. Best wishes to you guys, you take care of us, I don't see many companies in any field demonstrating such a high level of innovation.
Thanks/merci/asante

Andrew- this is very good news- as always nice work! Question: are the reflection/shadow properties able to react to separate object/surfaces in terms of spacial relationships- example: the engine on the reflective surface.... If you were to lift the engine on the y axis upwards, away from the floor surface, would the reflection/shadow act accordingly like in real world example? Or is the reflection/shadow element attached to engine object? Like when you quickly lifted the helicopter ? Or do we need to fake it and duplicate said object, turn off opacity on object but leave the reflection/shadow on and move it independently from the original object, (engine/helicopter)?
Thanks man! Really can't wait for this!!
Best-

Does the shadow of an object will be able to reflect in another object? And if so will it work with the unified render mode?
Keep on all those amazing stuff!
(PS: with all those new possibilities, having a way of naming groups will be a good minor update for E3DV 2.1)

Just a quick question, does v2 include blending modes for objects? and displacement?
The lighting and shading were my main problem with previous versions of Element and I am very glad you raised the bar on this.

You said you can export multiple things to the same Aux channel. I'm curious if it is possible to put a single object onto multiple Aux channels, and/or have the animation ratio unique for each channel setting (Set to -100 Y axis rotation, but +100 on X axis rotation)? Even with your track record, I'm positively blown away by the new features you guys have put in there. Big double thumbs up, and congratulations to everyone involved.

This is awesome. I am creating a logo at the moment unfortunatly it needs to be done this week or I would wait. I need to be able to create objects easier like the new 2.0 version. Wish we could get an advanced copy. Does not hurt to wish.HAHA>>>. Awesome looking new features guys hats off to you all....Greg

Question: does this implement the group layer styles (add, multiply, screen, etc) that we saw you use for the Star Trek credits?

It will definitely be worth the money. Great work as always. Will there be any accessory products at launch? Similar to Pro Shaders or model packs? It's hard not to ask.

Is that flat look of after effects in the new version cc 2014 ? or how did you get it to look like that?

Also, can we import and export materials/shaders to and from Cinema 4D? I'm also digging the new After Effects user interface. Very clean and sharp. Is it new? or have I just not updated my version yet?
Thank you so much for your work. So much respect and admiration for your passion and your relentless efforts to expand the capabilities of my artistic visions. Thank you Andrew, and everyone apart of your team.

Do we have the ability to change the shadows from soft light and hard light. I love the image icons that were added! So many new toys to play with super excited! Can the environment map be a movie?
