The Lost Footage!

Back in March of 2009, I started filming a trailer/promo for Action Essentials to show off the new elements. Fun idea, Red camera, fake guns, so we started shooting as fast as we could but sadly, we didn't have enough time to finish before the product launch. So it was left behind in the dust.

Now it almost feels vintage but there was a clip that somewhat relevant to the recent Machine Gun tutorial so I decided to release the unfinished scene for whatever it's worth. (Gun still has orange tip... NICE!)

I would have switched the scene to a shock and awe. The guy with the machine gun shoots but on the other side one of the guy takes a hand gun and kills the machine gun guy in one shot. A unexpected twist. Just saying!

its pretty nice... I like it.... Very creative... I think the color correction makes sense although i would personally prefer a night scene for its. All the came nice work like we say in my country bros you too gaski... meaning you are too much.

pretty damn good! for a more realism the bullets should hit the wall much more to increase the fact that they just escaped from death (they are lucky)! I've the impression that the holes made by bullet on the wall vanished without trace lol! anyway very good job!

Nice scene Andrew. I know this request has nothing to do with After Effects, but I think it would be great if you could do a post on how you shot the scene. Go into all the coverage you shot [including any shots that didn't make it into the final edit]and how you went about planning the sequence. It would be nice to see screen grabs of all the shots you got to shoot the scene.

Guys alot of you missing the point here, andrew made the ground hits to show you what you can do with the effect. Got nothing to do with aiming or pretending to shoot a real submachine gun.
we all understand and know the fact that if we were to use a real MP5 we would be in prison andour beloved sam loya wouold be dead.

the soldier seems to be a pro with all that stuff hanging from his clothes but he cant even aim well you could simply make two headshots with blood footages of action essentials, that would make sense

For beginers this might look good, but look at the unrealistic smoke and that weapon sound is free sample from the internet, everyone uses it(plus thats not even the right gun sound).Also director sucked for deciding that the shooter miss the target...thats so..lame.And one more thing..green tint is getting old and looks fan made so my advice would be change the colors.But Andrew's tutorials are great, only maybe someone else should be responsible for colors and fix the things I've mentioned above.

That first shot/round is missing a bullet impact(unless he shoots out of the frame, eh)! He's aiming straight forward but the first impact is down on the pavement. The recoil should make the gun go up rather than down, dont you think?

I know thats not the point with the video, but anyway!

Oh, and the bulletholes on the pillar disappeared

I had so much fun scrubbing through each frame. I got to much spare time.

For the record, Sam is an excellent shot which is why we asked him to do this with live rounds since we couldn't afford the SFX package. the SFX we're added later once we paid off the layaway. PLus Sam Loya needed "motivation" he's a ballzy actor that insists on authenticity.

Oh yeah, it has a fake Trijocon ACOG scope on it as well. At least I think it is fake. Kind of dumb to put a real ACOG on an airsoft....but you never know.

Tokyo Marui Mp5. Airsoft with dual mags and extended flash suppressor. Most movies rent real steel modified to shoot blanks. Seems like it would be cheaper than paying a post effects house to create all the gunfire but I guess it depends on who is doing what and where.

Thanks for reply. Anyway, I want to know what kind of guns are being used in, lets say, "homemade" videos, low-budget stuff, if you know what i mean. Not high-budget films. To be more specific, I want to start experimenting with this kind of vfx (gunfight) and i need some gun replicas which i can buy online for example, nothing high-profile.

Sound Effects! Sound Effects! First thing....If this guy is supposed to be a hitman he better hit the range for some practice time. Second...an MP5 that sounds more like a Giat Aa52/anf1. And lastly....where were the spent shells hitting the pavement? Sound Effects! Sound Effects! A lost art.

Fun stuff though!

OMG! I literally searched all over this site after the launch of the product to find the video you said would demonstrate it. I felt like I was the only person who realised that nothing ever came of it.

Please finish it and release it as it looked awesome and would still be a good re-boot for the product, even 2 years on.

Well. looks good... but a cleaner... do not miss his target in such a small distance... and the bullets, placed on the magazin of your weapon cannot be used in automatic guns without having trouble... you need... FULL METALL JACKET AMMO for cleaning accurate, fast and efficient...
