When you pick-whip the source text layers to the Name This layer's source text, it wrecks any font changes you may have had. Why? For example, my original text had 4 letters in a light typeface and then the next 4 in a light italic typeface of the same font. Pick-whipping justifies the lower layers to just the light face and ignores the italics. WHY?

For some reason, when I pick-whip the Source text to the top type layer it alters how the letters look and makes things weird.
Why is this happening? That step does not affect your typography in the tutorial.

Just did this tutorial and it worked. Something I noticed that was left out or covered very quickly is that, by default, Vegas looks at the Intensity channel. I had a black stroke and all of the dots stayed around the copy. I figured it out eventually when I was changing the color of the stroke and suddenly the dots jumped out to the outside of the stroke. Then I realized that you can change the channel to Alpha or several others and it was a huge struggle overcome.

Im running on AFFX CS6, my issue here is the ''Source Text'' thing, it wont work, i did the Alt + click and linked the text with the maintext (first text layer created), and still nothing ;c, heeelp.

Hi, Love the tuts But I am having a problem with this one. I am using CS6 and for some reason I can't get all of my text to pick wipe to one source. I have tried it several times now but just can't gt it. Do you know what is the problem? Is it me or a bug in CS6? Thanks.

Just a question for my new God. Say early on, you've pick wiped everything together..position, scale, etcetera because it seemed like a quick way to re-size your initial three layers to fit within the Title/Action Safe Area, then you find yourself deep in symbiotic duplicated layers and you cannot then do something like move your "Name This" or any other layer forward on the Z access...is there a quick way to disconnect them or do I need to go through each layer and delete all the code??

Maybe it is just the font I am using but when I make the stroke bigger on the original file, it doesn't just fill the inside - it fills both the inside and outside....doesn't look right like yours...

Have tried this tutorial literally a dozen times and just cannot seem to get it to work at all. Does it have to do with your font selection? The whole pickwhip thing doesn't do anything and I can't create this adjustable top layer. Also, the stroke function seems to behave completely different on my system. Copied your settings verbatim on my screen and still no dice. Please explain.

Great tutorial as usual. You should know a funny thing about this. I just noticed that one of the logos from your project file is actually being used in a swedish TV show in one of their episodes! It's a kind of candid camera show called "Balls of Steel". Amazing how a serious production company just steals your thing and put on their show without any editing of their own except for the change of text.

what font should I use?
I have Mac OS X so I wanted to know what font should be recommended the most for this project. I wanted to use the Transformers Movie Font while I following the steps on this project but it didnt come out too well when I raised the px on the stroke.

The vegas effect will not work for me. I have turned off accepting lights. It will work for the regular letters but not the stroke. I asked my professor and one of the top students but they do not know why it isn't working either. Please help me!

hey everyone, i'm not able to see the VEGAS effect on my TEXT. I tried it outside of this project and still the same problem.

very cool, I like the style. I created a logo last year that used the same style. TheGrillion.com I did the same method in illustrator, didn't think to use the same method in aftereffects.

So I decided after doing a lot of advanced stuff to go back into basic training. idk why really, but it felt like the right thing to do at the time.

One thing came up when I tried to "walkthrough" this tutorial. See to it that you use white as color (or at lest any other color than black) for the stroke in the 'Vegas Lights' -layer - being that Vegas defaults to use color intensity as 'Image Contour Channel'. A simple fix would be to change the channel to alpha.

anyone else have an issue applying the vegas effect to text layers. its not a 3d materials options issue because theres no light.
whats weird is if i copy one of andrews text layers with it applied into my project, the effect works. if i create my own text it will not apply and show up. i've made sure that every part of my text layer matches up to andrews and still no luck. i must be missing something.
