Hey Andrew your tutorials are really helpful but i got one problem. When i parent the first null with the second null and then parent the castle layer with the second it does not work instead when i parent it to the first then it works well. Or when i parent the second null to the first. Any response will be appreciated. Thanks

Hey mann, the reason it doesnt work is because the second null picks up where the first null ends, if you know what i mean?
The first null is the base and the second is the continiuation of the first one?

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!! In Canada!!!! But the big point is that thanks for the tutorial!!! I've seen CorridorDigital and in their Behind The Scenes they always said about Matte Painting and it is awesome, but I had no idea how to do it!! Thanks Andrew Kramer for the tutorial!!! I have a problem.Im working with the project files.
The image does not stick at the point where the two trackers meet. As soon as it reaches the point where the intersect the image of the castle changes. I parented the null 1 to null 2 and the image of the castle to null 1.
Can anybody help me out.?

GIMP is also another alternative for Photoshop and it's free. It has almost all the features for Photoshop.

Andrew great job I enjoy just watching you tuturial. My reason to watch and other you have about replacing the sky is because I wanted to do some sun rise animation and sun set. and I suppose that is done by replacing the sky because in my footage the sun is already there. Could you create a kind of tutorial on how to do that?

I use After Effects everyday at work, but I still use your tutorials as a reference. I watched this earlier today to brush up before I did some motion tracking, and I didn't want to look like a dummy in front of other video professionals that were counting on me. Well, it's a good tut, but I am having problems getting the backgrounds to sync up, even with following the tutorial word for word, you can still see subtle movements of the backdrop that is placed in. It has that o-so-fake look to it, like it isn't syncing up with the original shot... And I do mean, followed WORD for WORD, picture for picture etc, and I can't seem to get it to line up perfectly like in your tutorial. I mean yours is FLAWLESS. Another thing that adds quite a reality is the motion blur.
The raw footage has naturally motion blur, in this case largely because camera movement.
Then add the motion blur in CG elements (CC motion blur in shuter angle greater than 360).

This helped so much. I havent put set extensions in my own footage yet, but i will be soon. I did add an entire city to the same shot you had, which is what i have to do for my next project. I also am using a lot of pro scores, and action essentials. Those are great keep up the good work you are a big help.

I am trying to figure out what frame rate the footage is. It says 24fps in quicktime, and 23.98 in AE. Also going frame to frame, I noticed there were duplicate frames sporadically throughout the whole clip. Anybody else notice this? I motion tracked using Mocha instead, and it didn't do a good job cuz of duplicate frames

Hello Sir Andrew, great tutorial and great effect as ever, an Italian boy and use a translator so I apologize if I write badly, when I'm going to run the tutorial, the castle or whatever with any other video I move continuously never stays still and follow the video as it should, it would be kind enough to explain it because obviously something wrong with the tracer .... I was wondering how to use more than two null objects. I have a pretty wide shot and I want to place an tower in it at the end. I can't complete the shot with 2 null objects but when I add more than 2 null objects my tower does not stay at one place.

I have a very annoying problem with tracking footage. Almost every time I try to track something the track points don't stay in their positions. I thought it was because my crappy camera but even now when I'm doing it with this projects video with the very same tracking spots the upper point (three rocks) does not stay put. Is there something I might be doing wrong or I should notice when setting the points?
Any ideas?

Hi, i've been watching your tuto and i've tried another way to get a good tracking. I use Pftrack to make the tracking and i export one null object to AE, and it works perfectly, it's easy and you don't have to create two null objects in AE. i hope some comments

(I have the german version so i don't know the exact command)
oh, and it only works with CS2 or higher.

Great tutorial...really damn cool.
One thing though I must ask about the rendering of the final movie. Mine seems to render out not as smooth as the original footage. Is this just a compression thing? Or, something else? It kind of stutters as the camera moves upwards.

Those horses are called "ClydesDales" I probably spelled it wrong but thats what they are called and how to pronounce it.

Hey Andrew all ur stuff is awesome man.... Without ur effects in my movies, its jus so incomplete...
Anyway it would be more helpful if you could put up a turorial seperately for motion tracking...
I still dont understand a lot about it except for the basics... would be a biggy if u could help me with it...

MSPaint segment made me laugh out loud! -Brings up a whole new aspect of what Sam´s doing in the shot, he he...And tracking by null objects is great too, thanks Andrew!

hello there Andrew, this tutorial is pretty awesome. Now I can do off the screen tracking. I was wondering one thing though. How do you do tracking with rotation? Every good example of what I want to know how to do is in the music video for Nickelback's saving me, where the numbers floats on people's head and the camera goes basically all around them. It would be super cool if you can just explain a bit. You won't even have to do tutorial, but you can if you want, right lol? Anyways, I hope to hear from you soon because I am doing this for one of the effect for my school project which is due very soon. Thanks once again for all your time and effort for all the tutorial. I've learn a lot from you and hope to learn this one new thing I've mentioned here too.

great man been doing your tutorials for months now just 1 qestion. say i got a clip of my window exploding then the fire starts coming out but i have lots of camera shake to make it real i cant figure out the motion tracking for the flames to stay in the window ? thx

this 2D tracking stuff is really good, but I still don't get it.
AE is not able to track a 3D camera, right ?

It would be nice if you did go through the steps in photoshop...I just started learning photoshop and was not able to complete your tutorial because I got lost on how you cut the castle out and applied it to your background...

This one is probably my second most favorite (next to the Earth Zoom). The end result is amazing. I was watching Shrek today, and while he's on the quest to go and rescue Fiona, he passes by a volcano- the shot is almost exactly like this one. Angled on the ground, and the camera pans up slowly as the person (in this case, Shrek) walks up the hill, and sees the scene (volcano, ancient towers, etc.)
