Last time i tried to render something a picture it made over 500 copies of it and spammed my desktop with it and stacked my stuff so it could fill the whole screen i dont wanna do that again so know the problem?

How do you render motion blur outside of a particle system? Is it in the render settings?

When I try to display the particles as the geometry I created they disappear. I don't know what to do... did everything like u. I selected my group in the shape instance operator and picked 'geometry' in display operator but they won't appear.

That is one great tutorial, I just wished there were more people like you Andrew. I used the knowledge from this tutorial to put a meteorite in Doncaster town centre withmy video camera, I might send it to the local papers for a joke.

ur are best editer i know but i use adobe photoshop cs4 and i already made a lightsaber effect and thats all i made my own cuz i cannot inport any files u set here same as i wanted to download the crash landing files i downloaded the map 72 and 73 i can only inport the tree pictures but not the crahlanding raw and street explosion i had seen u where using quick time player so i downloaded it and made it standard opener of the files and i still cannot import it says: after effects error: cant import file street explosionl.mov unsupported filetype or extension ( 0 :: 1) it sayd the same when i import ur lightsaber the 3ds max is to hard for me cuz i am only 13 years old and a beginner i started with pause videos so i can walk trough walls xD and than the lightsaber and now i wanna have meteor hope u have a option for me how to import the files really ty and verry good tutorials u have ure awesome

I am having the same problem that sig was having in my attempt to duplicate Andrew's work precisely. I can only see the "particle" if I create at least "3". When I limit particle birth to "1", I cannot see it in the perspective view with the image.

Great tut dude. Your 3d max tutoring is greatly appreciated. Only problem i have is that my copy of 3d max doesn't have "bevel" in the modifier list. Does this mean its a separate plug in or do i just have a crap copy ?

hey andrew, first of all excellent tutorials, I'm new here and I have a very big question that maybe you can help me, I want to edit in After Effects, but my computer is very slow, I have a Core 2 Duo processor and 2 gigabytes of memory RAM. I am recording in a Sony HDR-SR12 which is full HD AVCHD format, to pass it on to the computer is in m2ts format, convert it to mpeg2 but it is impossible to move forward, impossible edit. . This tutorial was really good, there is no one like you on teh internets.
But why would you use a platform specific program like 3Ds max?
I myself use OSX, and having no knowledge of 3D animation, cannot follow your tutorial in Maya.

The animation is ok, but as a "production", looks really fake. Lack of reactive lightings, motions of the scene's objects are missing, it looked like just a still photo being enhanced thru animations, the life is missing.

Would it be possible for you to make the same tutorial in BLENDER?
Myself and many Independent Filmmakers/Visual FX-Artists are on Mac and 3DsMAX is used only on PC.
Also would you have knowledge on how BLENDER compares to other top notch 3D programs such as Maya, Lightwave, 3DSMAX, and Cinema4D? Please let us know.

Same problem here as gnakli. I have never worked before in 3d max and i cant find out how you do that middle drag thing.. can anyone please explain. I use a trail version of max 2009.

Thank you so much. Usually tutorials like these are so expensive. It makes young artists like me very easy to learn High Standard visual effects. And most important of all, the way you teach is so clear and fun.

Hey what's up andrew, on this tuto i'm a bit stopped at the beginning in 3ds max when you talk about "hold down alt" to do a middle drag

I got forget about to tell this tutor open my eyes for 3D Max I do have it 2009 and actaully I 'm stll learning I did the twitch but not so good as you and also I never taught You can put Image inside thei interface perspective if you know what I mean this is new to me just learned today from you amazing now it makes sence with 3D Max I can put Footage and use any object such box now I 'm getting into thanks andrew and beside I" m still big fan of you and I buy your stuff all though some them I didn't need but twitch plugin I use everyday thanks andrew

if anyone can help me for a second , im trying to make like an intro letters coming out from by scale to 100 , but when y try to track the text into expanding , instead of going from the middle to the sides , it goes from the left to the right , so the first dont letter moves instead of the one in the middle of the phrase which make the words spread to the sides

Dear Andrew,
I am having a small problem with the tutorial. I have followed up until the point where you need to create the particle generator. My problem is I can see the little ticks in all of the view ports accept for the one where I have my background. I have tried changing the color and switched it to circles, but I cannot see them.
Do you know what could be wrong?

Really really great stuff as always. Love all of this 3d integration. Just one question, if you are exporting out files with transparency anyway (png) then why does it matter that the background environment colour is a dark green?

Just a big thanks andrew for all your work to helping others like me. Since i turned 30 i realised that would like to spend the next 4 to 5 years studying visual effects and then the next 30 working with them. Your site has helped me immensely with composition and now your working toward other areas. Cool!
