Andrew, no doubt these are wonderful tuts but the subtle dark humor and direct "Look at this because it's so cool too!" you impart is quite priceless.

I was just about to ask why do u needed to use the white solid, why won't just put the mask on the frozen frame layer, then I realized u couldn't move just the mask (not easily, only if u change the mask path point by point, which could give u maybe a more precise look)

This is a great tutorial, as are all the rest. But I find the subject matter a bit disturbing. yea I know, I am going to get booed off for saying this. But as someone who has been around this sort of thing, i found it of great distaste. If this was the first thing I saw on here, I wouldnt return. But since you are such a great teacher and at least from what we can see on here, a sensible guy, its not going to run me off. But i cant speak for other first time or second time visitors.

Anyway, Just thought youd like the feedback. Thanks for all your hard work and knowledge.

I FOUND AN ERROR WITH THIS ONE!

Sorry about the all-caps. Really, I just did that to get some attention. I'm not an all-caps kinda guy. While using your clip in my own project for practice, I discovered that the mask covering the guy's head is creating an artifact on the traffic behind him. If you go to 6:18, look at the car behind the head matte as you scrub the time indicator. That car jumps backward a little as the matte moves to the right and down. At first, I thought I was just doing something wrong, but the tutorial has the same problem.

The next logical step is to now try fixing this, but am I right here? I'm not seeing things, am I? Much love, Mr. K. I hope your golf game has improved

He makes a frozen duplicate of the original where you see the sky so that when you mask off the guy's head you will see the sky naturally there, think if you didn't have it and you cut off the head from the picture, you would just have a hole in your image. The tracking is used to make it appear as if the effects he is adding to the shot were there when he took it, it makes the fog and other effect move and respond to the camera and the whole thing looks more convincing, otherwise it will stick out that you are just pasting stuff on a video that was already shot before. I hope that helps to clarify.

hi, i've got a problem with this tutorial, i'm using AE cs4 but when I try to move the time bar of the duplicated layer, the bracket doesn't appear, at first when I duplicate the layer it's ok but when a I add the time remaping the brackets desapears. And there aren't brackets neither in the nul object layer... any idea???

Hi,

I'm very disappointed in the subject matter for this tutorial. My 11 year old son was enjoying using some of your tutorials, but when my wife found the tutorial contained an effect of a man blowing his brains out, we were horrified. I'm sure there must be a less nihlistic, depressing and upsetting way of simulating a flesh wound in a lesson. From a marketing perspective, I think your shooting yourself in the foot (if not in the head) by creating tutorials that are inappropriate for younger ages, who would be keen to buy your products. Maybe when you have children of your own you'll understand.

but thing is... that the backgound picture I use, the still frame at the end, is not perfectly alined with the rest of the video for some reason, so you can tell it's forgery, because they r not perfetly alined, so when u remove the head the background doesn't perfecly match and is a little off
don't know if other people have the same issue as me
and I'd like to make a tutorial request, can u please make one where you incorporate ufos in a video? like fake an alien flyby? that would be off the hook!

i made this by using the tutorial and the action movie essentials(which is great).
And updated the look of this vid a little bit by changing the mask and the blood spattering use.
instead of blowing his head of, he is just shooting a small part off.

How can i put again the delimitated parenthesis that has each layer on timeline???? thanks that looks pretty god but i couldn't do it because i canÂ´t put that parenthesis if i moeve in the time line in the first part i cut the film

You can add sound in After Effects, but you cant hear it until you export it. And now I have a question, it may have been asked before, but I was looking for maybe a solution, is there any other way to get the cool blood effects without buying Action Essentials? thanks great tutorials.

I'd give u an advice: strech the blood to slow down the time a lil bit and add the sharpen effect, it'd be more realistic so

I have got a question. I tried to do this tut but when I am masking out the face it works but if I hoild on a frame where the head is masked it pops up out of the mask sometmes as a diamond shape somethimes as a random shape. what am I doing wrong? can someone please help me?

Excellent tutorial, I've used this same basic idea several times not necessarily to have someone's head blown off but also to digitally remove unwanted objects from the background with a moving camera shot. Fantastic.
