what format do I export and import the cell phone in for AE?
That is a 3d object right? (cell phone)

He rendered it in 3D Studio Max (.mov format) and then imported in AE.

Initially, the file was a 3d file I am sure. But the file that Andrew provided is a *mov file which is a quicktime movie. Import as you would any other footage.
