you sound like a dope dude. So I'm using Cinema 4D and i seem to have messed up somewhere, because using the script you mentioned parented layers do not get exported, so the groundtrack wasn't there... basically I don't know what to do in that case

there is a plug in for photoshop that creats lens flares just like the yours does in after effects it is called knoll light factory (just search in on google)

Your tipp to export Cameras from AE to C4D was the Script with the same name AEtoC4D but i can´t export parented layers from AE with this script but your Cam is Parented. What should i do? Can you the same Tutorial make for the Cinema 4D users ?

Nice, but why this lens flare it doesn't even make sense to point a light upwards there?
Lens flares are artifacts a good cinematographer tries to avoid, you know what I mean when you watch Avatar where you had, from time to time, an annoying lens flare or reflections of windows right in front of your eyes.
I hated it in Star Trek – lens flares where not even a light is. Use it more subliminal.

Guys, I figured out how to download the script, for those who couldn't (including me!).
Here's what to do:
1) Go to the webpage
2)Instead of Clicking on the hyperlink to the script to go to download it, right click, and choose Save Link as, and save it where you want, with the default name.
3) That's it! The script is downloaded as a .jsx file!

The script you used for the 3ds export works just fine with C4D. All you need to do is click the LWS (Lightwave scene) option. C4D works extremely well with Lightwave object and scene files.
Then go into C4D and go to file>merge objects and select the .lws. Voila!

Dragon? ... also... not that it matters...but when u created the ledge shadow with a solid... isnt "intersect" transfer mode for masks a bit less confusing than subtract invert...

Hey Andrew, I would just like to thank you for all of these tutorials. They're really helping me learn after effects in a way that I would like to learn it, not face down in lecture notes or text book pages, but in video format with a sense of humor (which is pretty damn good ).
All I can ask for is a similar website or something devoted to 3d programs. 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender; you name it and i'm trying to learn it by myself. It's a little frustrating, especially sense there seem to be no tutorials that actively go through step by step processes that a guy like me (just dipping my feet in the water) desperately needs and doesn't have the money to get, yet.
You probably get this all the time, but I'm sure I'm not the only person that would appreciate some help in the form of your ever-cool tutorials put to use on some 3D programs.

Hey great tutorial as always. I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on the effect shown in the vampire diaries series? I dont know if you have see the show or not but it is where veins show up under the eyes and move and wiggle I can get an okay effect with the same method that you used with the bugs under the skin but it is not what I want. I read something on how the vfx artists do it and they said that it was with a 3D progarm maya, I have 3ds max so I was just wondering when ever you get the time can you make a tutorial on that? thanks.

Great tutorial.
Cinema4D has a 'set selection' function similar to 3DSMax.
Once you select the surfaces you want, go to SET > SET SELECTION.
Under Basic Properties, give the selection a name. IE: kramer
Then drop the material unto the object. Then under the TAG PROPERTIES of the object, change the name to that of the set selection (kramer).

One question: You mentioned you have set up the controls in Cinema 4D to be as in 3ds max. I guess you mean rotation and panning in the viewports as well. How do you do that because I couldn't find a way. THANK YOU! Amazing is an understatement for Andrews work and tutorials!

Awesome tutorial! I bet it would look great to add a focus pull from Sam to the street while the camera moves...
Just add some DOF to the camera in 3D Max, then manually blur out Sam and the street in AE... that would just make this even more spectacular!

awesome awesome tutorial andrew. possibly the best one yet. untill the next one. and the one after that. and so on. i really enjoy seeing you integrate other programs into your compositing of after effects such as 3d programs and photoshop. cant ever get enough video copilot!

Thanks Andrew for your time and the great tutorials. One note, I believe you can use the lightwave option for C4D on the first script you mentioned. When I use to motion track footage from Syntheyes it didn't have a C4D export so I would use the lightwave option (.lwo) and it would import nice into C4D with no problem. This was years ago and it may have changed since but just throwing that out there. Thanks again for your hard work.

In response to sean in the above comment, you can do a match photo in the free application Sketch Up. If you know the relative size of an object in the shot, you can us the scale tool to work out relative dimensions for the 3d model. If you have Photoshop cs4 extended there is a measuring tools section in there also.

Brilliant as always Andrew, and so appreciated! I've one question, and it concerns the relative sizes of everything you have created and used in 3-d space. I'm wondering the conclusions you have arrived at for the size of the building in 3-d; is that a relative real world size building in 3dsmax, and if so, why would one work in this way, and how that relates to where you place the street(car level) in after effects? Basically I suppose, I'm wondering how you deal with scale when it comes to compositing and creating 3-d objects, with reference also to your recent FRINGE balconty shot.
