Gearing Up with Element 3D!

Gear Up! #aperture #Element3D

A video posted by Video Copilot (@andrewkramer) on

Maybe I just love apertures but this was a fun project to make! Using a few motion design 2 objects I built thisanimating gear. I just created a collection of models on one group and distributed them using a ring array and then animated the properties!

Sometimes simply projects create amazing results!

Here's my attempt.

I also used the Motion Design Pack2. Lots of cool pieces of geo in there. I had to use two groups and the animation engine to get the animation offset. I couldn't figure out out how to use just 1 group as Andrew mentioned.
Fun excercise.

I do not know why but FXConsole not work on AE 2017 CC .... please can I fix this?
I had the same issue. If I remember right, I was able to get it working by manually placing the files in my plugin folder. There is a workaround

Hey Andrew why does your folder structure say 1-3?
Because he chose for that folder to be on two groups. In the group folder in E3D click the drop down for the group. Click group 1 then ALT click group 3 to get the same as Andrew. it was a feature added a few years ago.

I've learned lighting in Element can be a challenge but over time, there are workarounds. If you create a 3D position Null where you want the object to be lit, then past that position to the light, then move the light away from the object you have a better chance of getting the effect you want.

Then just remove the null and repeat in other areas if necessary.

Ok look. Andrew is on top. There is no doubt or question. His tutorials are really pretty damn good. Now for the other shoe. I need to SPEAK to someone, like over the phone. Maybe share a screen. Are there any pro's out there that do this for money?

This project was not created with Element 3D v2.2.2147
Which version of Element3D is that
In the picture at the bottom left is a new icon to the right outside this new icon is not in Element3D v2.2.2147
It looks like a new version of Element3D v.2.5

Just wondering if is possible once when I finish assembly in element 3d to export 3d model from element 3d as OBJ so I can reduce polygon and do retopology. Example I made my bash kit of wires and electrical conduit, switches etc. once when I assemble them in element 3d and save them I would like to export them as OBJ and paint them with substance painter or remodel them to fit better. Also if is possible to lock scale x and y for texture size so it can scale proportional. So far I need to adjust first on x than on y axis.

Hit it hard in these past two weeks! Big progress, working on it still along with many things! Which makes it a bit more challenging...
Awesome to hear you are still working hard on it! Those VFX shots take forever to complete and render out.
