New Plug-in TRAILER! Update: 3

Our new plug-in trailer is finally online! I hope you guys can see how much work went into this!

The plug-in and Tutorial will be availabletoday-ish!

UPDATE: Might be a long night but this plug-in is coming out!
UPDATE 2: Dinner time. Long night ahead... Not going to bed until we launch!

UPDATE 3: Even though It's still 10:30PM on Friday... it does looks like it will go past midnight. So if you want to get some sleep, I understand.I'm staying here until it launches! Lots of litle jobs like installer art!

Update 4: Still here jamming! There really is a lot to cover in this tutorial!

Hi Andrew. Thank you for the plugin, it's pretty amazing. I have bought many of your products, because you stuff is great! I would even buy this one if it were for sale. I watched a tutorial on youtube on how to incorporate Element 3D with Saber and it had to do with "lining up the texts with the camera" and other things. There has to be an easier way to make this effect. Can you please tweak the saber plugin to make it easier to work with Element 3D? I'll buy it if so. I love that even though you're working on some of the biggest movies that come out, your techniques and plug-ins have thoroughly saturated the professional market, you still talk to the guys making movies with their friends in these tutorials, the same way you did 10 years ago.

And the awesome stuff you give us. Especially that. If there's a "Really Swell Guys" Hall of Fame, I'll vote for you.

Andrew, what I would really love to see is a render settings tutorial. From concept, to final, to YouTube/Web. Renders that are done, don't look remotely the same nor rendered the same.

With the highest respect to Andrew and his team,

Just out of pure respect for all the people obviously waiting patiently - I believe an update is far overdue at this point (I believe the last update was almost 20hrs ago)

Communication is far better than silence and lets not forget, regardless of your market strategy, your customers are the backbone of your business....and may I remind everyone before you snap back at me - all legitimate users of this software (Element 3D) had to pay hard earned money to even be able use this free update.

Andrew is quite the showman. This company should be a model for how to market your products. Element is the only real significant product (it's great and priced intelligently), his stock vfx elements are good, but it's really how he get people (no talent dweebs like me) all excited about using them and doing cool stuff...

It makes me incensed to see whining comments and cries of 'poor me' 'poor me' 'boohdy hoo hoo' and all the while you and your whole team are working your collective butts off to bring us all an awesome plug-in free of charge - it freaks me out!

Please people just chill man. They are working harder than you are right now...at your computer reading and writing comments...just like this one, and myself included. Have at least a modicum of understanding and a heap of respect for the effort being put into this and realize that VC could have charged for this plug-in and we all would have bought it.

It is a business model. Making free stuff and also making stuff you have to pay for. I am sure Andrew Kramer himself also his company never would do a mistake like "punishing" own customers. Even in the case some of this customers acting like be in a kindergarten. On the other side it could be very helpful to communitcate more realistic release dates.

I swear I thought this plugin was coming out a week ago like it said on the first promo poster. But then I come here and find out, "well there's a trailer. Looks pretty badass. But you're still working hard to finish it and get the actual plugin out." So just when I thought I missed and the launch and avoided the painful slow tick of patiently waiting for its arrival, I see I am firmly stuck in the middle of it like everyone else. I've got a project right now that is in dire need of what I hope this plugin can do. So I guess I'll be reloading the page every hour as well. lol But it is sooooo worth it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this plugin FREE.

I would like to thank Andrew and everyone at video copilot for their hard work with the great plugs that are free and no so free. Definitely Element. They're the same landscape, one just with a snow texture and one with a desert sand texture. Would be cool to see a tut on this someday!

Although it was an app, this is a plugin... I mean u really think that u r gonna be able to get it done by then, but when you are into the things, then u see hw much more is left... U continously work all day+night and still find tht it could get better if i add x hours of more work!! And thts wt u all r failing to understand,.. Those x more hours tht i put into it might just save u some seconds bt it makes a big difference in my opinion!!

This is not to A.K. and VCP but to the community. Anyone with a negative comment should be ashamed of themselves. Apparently, none of you have either advanced far enough in your careers to have developed a plugin or have enough technical understanding to appreciate what goes into development. Andrew, fortunately enough for you is STILL one of us. Correction, he's better than us and I mean that in the fact that he learns something new and SHARES it. Too many in this community takes from VCP and does not give back and has the audacity to be angry that an amazing piece of tech is being shared for free because it's not released on time? I purchased just about everything here. I just bought the heat distortion plugin last night as I was in a time crunch to meet a deadline and I wanted the best results in the least amount of time (I usually do these kind of FX manually).
My point being I was grateful enough to have this as a resource and it saved me time. BE GRATEFUL. Thank you VCP and Andrew Kramer. You have my complete support and I have been been following guys like Andrew and Aaron Rabinowitz since the Creative Cow days in 2005 or so. Thank you for what you do.
VCP community, if you cannot progress in your learning without the likes of VCP, the least you can do is be grateful that they care enough to do what they do. As it will most likely be YOU that takes a tutorial, follows it exactly, and puts it in their "show reel", the very LEAST that you can do is be thankful that these guys are giving you "some kind" of life. Take your time VCP. You have NEVER disappointed me.
P.S. My sites getting an overhaul and I will be putting some tutorials up in the next few months (so I TOTALLY get why these delays happen) and I hope to share these with the VCP community.

Sammy you need to understand that Andrew is as excited to release this plug in as we are to get it. Sometimes in that excitement we can't wait to share what we're doing with others. Andrew feel to me like the guy thats just like us..he loves what he's doing, and it shows, if thats no way to run a business then he should charge us for the plug in don't you think? So its safe to say Andrew doesn't treat us like he's running a business, it feel more like a good friend sharing with us his hard work by giving us free plugins and making tutorials for us on how to use them.

You all fail to see my point (except Sammy). Video Copilot is a business. Period. The announcement of release dates and consistent failure to meet those dates is unprofessional. It is old. I'm not being negative. I am stating facts. This doesn't make me less of any type of human being. I don't "need" this plug in and it isn't about this plug in or any other piece of VC product. That being said, I do purchase almost all of VC's products and use them. Fanboys will be fanboys.

Shawn, if you don't "need" this plug in, why bother to comment. So you could be creating instead of trolling? How many tutorials have you created (that didn't rip off vcp anyway)? I would love to see your body of work that displayed anything but ripped off tutorials for all the complaints. AND you complain about a free plugin? Business or not, they are GIVING THIS TO US. I see your point but still disagree. I don't think recognition should go only through money. I'm an 18 yrs old student, I'm broke, and I cannot really afford to spend money on plug-ins. I'd rather spend it on, you know, food and stuff
I'm assuming you are already making a decent living, and I do think that it is a GREAT thing that you can support him. In fact, if it was not for you guys who financially support him, I could not enjoy the free stuff myself. However, I still think that in a way, my non-financial support is worth as much as your financial one, simply because that's all I can give him for now

You are perfectionists, I kind of know what you are going through. I video tape weddings on the side and I torment over every nuance. Things that the couple would never even notice I still need to fix because I notice them. Then when I finally have it all complete, I see I spelled something wrong even though I looked at it 10 times. UGH! Take your time Andrew and team you are perfectionists which is why so many flock to your site and products.

It's gonna be worth it! There are so many little tips on how to get the FX right. You guys have been awesomely patient and I wouldn't be dragging this out if it wasn't extremely important.

It's not ideal to be running behind like this. It sucks. If you guys could see how much has improved in these 10 extra days... the quality and control is night and day.

Most of the negative comments here are obviously coming from people that have no clue whatsoever how the world of production (pre/post production) works.
Most of us (myself included - why I???m still up at 4am on a Saturday morning) working in this realm can completely understand the way time ticks by as we painstakingly work at getting everything delivered 'just right' for our clients. Ultimately its our own reputations and therefore livelihood at stake each time we hand over a piece of work only to be scrutinized by the masses.
Give this guy a break! in a day or two, when you're all experimenting with this 'gift' you'll all have forgotten about this huge effort Andrew and his team are making......it's sadly all part of this generations need and demand for instant gratification. Just please relax and let this guy do his job.......nuff said!!..... Cheers! Andrew to you and your team, I for one am ready whenever you are.

The guy has 4 kids and a wife! I'm sure 3 out of 4 kids wake up during late hours of the night to wonder around the house "daddy I need a cup of water, daddy what are you doing, daddy can I have a snack, daddy can we play some video games?" This guy has a family! His wife can't do everything, marriage is a team.

That being said, AK is not the only person working on this plugin people.. I'm sure he has a team of people doing different things, its called production! Give it some time, he promised that he will not rest until its released. I'm sure he wants it released and go to sleep knowing there wont be any issues for Matt to deal with in all of your emails.

Yeah, it may be wrong. But for god's sake. Have some respect. Andrew and his team are working non-stop, pulling all-nighters to create a finished,polished product that will be an amazing game changer (judging by the trailer) and they are giving it FOR FREE. They could easily just make 100K+ $ out of this, but they are doing it for the community. Having that in mind, you have exactly 0 right to complain about anything.

Saying that something will be out one day and not delivering it on time while he/they didn't sign a paper and didn't receive money for that promise isn't wrong. Complaining about that isn't wrong either, Tig has free will to do as he pleases too ^_^. Two people out of free will are doing whatever they wanna do, but complaining doesn't feel good, it isn't inspirational and not exciting, while promising something and working on it till it is finished is! ^_^

Doubt it. I think the idea came to him when working on movie. That he could make plugin like this, working with Element. The combination is really awesome and it opens new universe of possibilities in motion graphic. It really eliminates the need for 3D software to some extent. But for movies, it can be used in small, full CG scenes without too complex animations. It cannot beat behemots like Maya, Max, Houdini etc. But considering that all this is created by relatively small team, and that some of it is FREE, some big players should be ashamed. I learned a lot here and cannot understand people criticizing for FREE AWESOME plugin being late....

I'm very glad to see this and it looks very promising! Almost nothing on the site in 2015 but you seem to be back in full force Andrew. I kind of wonder if you were involved with the lightsabers at ILM?

I look forward to seeing more of the plugin's features! (Realistic falloff is a win. I'm using Real Glow at the moment and I wonder if your implementation will be even better.)

You can simply model and texture it in World Machine (Third party software) and when you have done the model and texturized it you can export it in Element 3D, if you want to integrate it in After Effects.

It's not so hard. If you follow the website, you'll know there's a new version out (Element 3D V2.2) which has reflections and shadows. It's pretty much just that effect (how ever you use the plugin that has been announced) put that on a plane inside E3D, use some fancy alpha stuff built in, set your floor or whatever object you want to reflect to... well, reflect and there you go. Just watch the E3D 2.2 announcement video, it's covered there.

Agreed. The aberration is real nice in this video. Back in the day we just finished in Smoke to complete our looks. I'd love to hear how you do your effect in our more common programs.

In Element 3D, go to Render -> Glow -> Chromatic Diffraction - those settings will give any glowing items in your Element scene that aberration look.

Honestly Magic Bullet Looks has a fantastic chromatic aberration tool. But what you're seeing in Andrew's renders is more than just that. There are filmic color curves, vignetting, diffusion, glows?all the stuff that takes a 3D render up a few notches into believability.

Hi Danny,

It's a plugin called Sabre and it looks like it creates energy for a light sabre, electricity but can do much more. There it realistic light falloff and I think it will have an "edge control" whereby you can apply it to the edges of custom layers (shapes/text) and get the energy to flow along the edges (like an electrical discharge). There will be a lot of screen grabs and smaple images over the next few days on Google images I'd imagine. The makers of AE must thank their stars when things like this are released as it magnifies the role of AE so much.

You can see the smoky/liquid burst effects in both of these instances.

I've rotoscoped enough lightsabres back in the day for one lifetime, but I love the possibilities this plugin showed throughout the trailer. Anything where 'energy' is needed.

My spaceships are suddenly going to look faster and more aggressive. I didn't realize I needed a plugin like this, but now I can't wait to use it

Not a lightsaber fan, but sure there's a lot more you can do with the new plugin.

At the first moment, yes a very cool Star Wars making plugin for lightsabers... well... how often do you need such things in practice? for my purpose the plugin seem far more interesting for daily work light fx composting stuff.

Its very honorable to do such things for free, but really, you should sell such a plugin!

Anyone know how to do the laser bolts? I'm guessing that won't be covered in the tutorial. Can't wait for the tutorial! Looks like a great plugin with lots of applications.

Try effect/generate/beam and just animate the time

Also if you want something more hectic like a massaive firefight try using particular with a high velocity and motion blur and make sure to put the opacity boost to 100 (which is in Rendering under Motion Blur) which will let you get a stronger looking laser
