An Unstoppable Force!

It's been a crazy year! Getting an opportunity to work on Star Wars and learning how many days you can survivewith no sleep. It's been an incredible honor to work with J.J. Abrams and the amazingly talented people at Bad Robot and ILM. To see the love an dedication that went into this film was inspiring.

I've been lucky enough to work on other feature films but this project seemed topush me harder and teach me more than any other experience in my life.

The thing about Video Copilot, it has always been a place to share my experiences and my challenges. I've always wanted to make tutorials based on real-world projects and some of the coolest tricks and techniques have come from working on actualproductions. Star Wars was a masterclass on solving problems. I'm truly excited to be back at Video Copilot and back among the living and to share with youeverythingI've learned.

Thank you all for your patience and kind wordsthat helped me get through some intense nights.

I'm finally back in full force! Including all those terrible puns!

This is going to sound crazy but maybe he doesn't know when he can be back? Honestly, I don't care how long he's gone. He has immensely helped everyone here and the fact that there are so many whiny adults is shocking. How about instead of checking here every day to complain, MAKE SOMETHING. Andrew didn't have anyone to hold his hand and the fact you all complain is ridiculous. You've had more help in this than any other generation. He will be back but first he has much larger projects to work on.

If you're here complaining, then don't get the products... oh wait, you are dependent on them. Funny how that works eh? Just let the guy enjoy large and incredible projects that he's worked hard to get involved with as well as his family.

Jeesh. If I were him, I wouldn't come back to help the people who are yelling at him for not babysitting them.

Its out of order to leave your customer & supporters of this site hanging on for months without any real communication, Many of whom have been here for years . It doesnt take more than a few minutes to give people an update
on how things are going , And before people like " Thatguy " start their ridiculous ranting I`m not talking about tutorials , If people want those there are hundreds on Youtube ....

Since you're not talking about tutorials? What exactly do you want an update on? Seems like you and a lot of other people on this forum feels like Andrew owe you something. You've been with them for years, so have I, and many others. Andrew said he's working on some new stuff for us. You got an update in the "still alive"post. Thats not enough? Some of you here sound like clingy partners in a relationship. Calm down and find other ways to pass the time. By the way Andrew has a life too. You never know what may be going on with him. My only issue with Andrew is that he spoiled us too much. Its good that he's breaking that cycle now.

As many people have mentioned here, the customer service is still very much in order, responsive and going just fine. If you've purchased a product from here, you are getting the support you paid for. Numerous people have said that.
As far as free tutorials and blog posts go, he's under no obligation to provide them.
It's that simple. Why are people still arguing about this?
joseph
nice comeback mike, but don has a point. if you're not talking about tutorials, what do you want an update on?
vc still provides support to customers if you contact them. mark is right about that.
and as far as respecting his supporters, he has made two blog posts now thanking them for all their support through such a busy time. should he just keep posting once a week grovelling at their feet and thanking everybody so much for being such a good support?
what do you even want?
Brian
This is exactly what is wrong with the world today. Everybody is so needy. Half the people that complain that Andrew hasn't been "updating" in a while, should probably open after effects up and go through all the parameters in all the effects that are included with the software, maybe if they spent some of this time that Andrew has been away doing that, they may actually learn something on their own. Andrew has always said in his videos, that what he hopes these tutorials will do is inspire others to experiment, but it seems to me everyone wants to be spoon fed everything in life. I've been a user of after effects back when it was Cosa After Effects, way before Adobe bought them. I constantly am fiddling with the different options to try to learn new ways to do something. That's what working in a creative environment means, be creative! I've seen so many commercial projects that are exact rip-offs from what Andrew posts on this site. Are people really proud to charge clients to use Andrews tutorials as is. I was just at a show in Las Vegas last night at the Tropicana called "Raiding the Rock Vault" and sadly every title design was an exact ripoff from tutorial #116 "procedural crumble". I've also seen that same treatment used on TV commercials. So sad. If you can't manage to create something original and creative, maybe you are in the wrong field. So instead of complaining go create, and maybe one day you can be the next Andrew Kramer creating cool stuff that everyone wants to copy for their own use. Geez!!

Having spent most of my life as a vice president in several major corporations, I can assure you that the lack of any communication, such as we have here, is a very bad strategy and quite damaging to customers' perception of the business entity. Clearly, VC is an organization that consists of several people, so one would think that there could be someone there to handle communication if AK is not available. Though AK is quite entertaining with his tutorials, I purchased Element 3D for its excellent capabilities and I am therefore most interested in the continued future development of the product. I must confess that I am now rather concerned about the viability of the company based on its silence.

If my only reason for being here is semantics, what in God's name is YOUR reason for being here?
All I've seen you do is comment an awful lot on various things trashing people for telling others to move on and get over it.
The only thing you have actually done, which I suppose in your eyes makes you cool, intelligent or important, is attempt to belittle, attack, offend or insult people. That seems to be your sole purpose. You're a sad, lonely person who seems to get off on refreshing a blog post to see if they can respond with any more vile rubbish in an attempt to feel important or righteous. Good luck with that. I hope it brings you much joy. I look forward to seeing the fruits of your hard work through your future successes, but I don't think I'll be holding my breath.

man...you're unbelievable. You first made a fool of yourself by saying that everyone here but yourself is ridiculous. Not happy, you said that the community here is made of vile people (other than yourself again of course).
Now you're playng yourself again by judjing someone you don't know, which is no news, I know, since it is the only thing you have actually done so far.

And now you also want to come and judge the fruits of my hard work?

Please do:

ThatGuy

1) I was quite clearly referring to a certain group of ridiculous people here, not all inclusive or exclusive. I never said that everyone here is ridiculous except for me. Those were your words.
2) I was also quite clearly not referring to everybody in this community, but it's not hard to see when reading this comment board that there truly is a bunch of vile people commenting here.
3) Literally all you have done from the get-go is post your own uninformed judgment under my comments, from the onset of "wow, you're a genius. I wish I was as clever as you," to "be smart for once in your life," through to your comments just now. Hmm, if ever there was a perfect example of uninformed presumption and judgment, I'd say you're it. Someone better tell the pot the kettle has been calling him black... again.
4) Again, CLEARLY, I was not referring to the quality of your motion graphic or design work. That wasn't even alluded to in my reply. I was quite obviously referring to what you could possibly be getting out of devoting yourself to ceremoniously checking the board here and replying with such disdain.

If it makes you feel any better, I will retract my previous statements and amend them:
You, sir, are positively ridiculous and vile.
There are a few others here too.
Not all.
Sean
1) I was quite clearly referring to a certain group of ridiculous people here, not all...
you must be suffering from alzheimer as it is NOT TRUE, you're words wre exactly: "YOU GUYS ARE ALL SO RIDICULOUS" preceded BY "HAHAHA" of course... VERY ANNOYING.
I never said that everyone here is ridiculous except for me... SO YOU INTENDED INCLUDING YOURSELF??!!. Those were your words. NOT TRUE.
2) I was also quite clearly not referring to everybody in this community...NO THAT WAS NOT CLEAR AT ALL SINCE "YOU ALL = EVERYONE HERE", but it's not hard to see when reading this comment board that there truly is a bunch of vile people commenting here...
there are vile people everywhere BUT YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO PUBLICLY JUDGE WHO IS AND WHO IS NOT, ESPECIALLY SO ON A BLOG THAT IS NOT YOUR OWN.

3) Literally all you have done from the get-go is post your own uninformed judgment under my comments, from the onset of "wow, you're a genius....
IT IS TRUE THAT I ATTACKED YOU AND THE REASON FOR DOING SO WAS YOUR IRRITATING COMMENT WHICH I BELIEVE YOU STILL DO NOT REGARD AS PRESUMPTUOUS.
4) Again, CLEARLY, I was not referring to the quality of your motion graphic or design work...
AS USUAL NOT CLEAR AT ALL... BUT THAT'S OBVIOUSLY AGAIN RELATED TO MY BAD COMPREHENSION.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET THIS STATEMENT OF YOURS: "And quite frankly, if people are offended or not doesn't mean anything to me. They can be offended. So what?"

AGAIN, NOT ARROGANT AND PRESUMPTUOUS AT ALL, ISN'T IT?

If it makes you feel any better, I will retract my previous statements and amend them:
You, sir, are positively ridiculous and vile.
There are a few others here too.
Not all.

Well, since you've finally decided to retract your stupid previous statements, at least we've achieved something here though I'm not sure it was worth the long unpleasant quarrel. Honestly I did not feel you were reffering to me when you said : "you guys are ALL so ridiculous" as - like I have already mentioned - I agree with you that some comments here are inapporpriate, but once again: it is your arrogant attitude that is disgusting. So, since you obviously got beef for me no matter what, it's ok with me to be the rappresentative of the few ridiculous and vile people here. At least we've made it clear now that not all of us are.

That does not change the fact that you still are an awkward prick (not my words but I couldn't agree more).
Viktor

ThatGuy, Know that I am 100% on your side. The only thing Sean is right about is that you cannot judge people, what you obviously did not do as you just stated the obvious about this blog being full of vile people. Sean does not quote you right, which is amusing, and is quite aggressive. I, personally, didn't find your comment arrogant, but it depends on the intonation you read it with. Clearly Sean was having a bad day.
sean
I respect your opinion Vladimir, yours is a decent comment.
As for the rest...I think that the fact that ThatGuy and I have been arguing and the fact that people have been writing inappropriate things here is due to the absence of someone with the authority to stop this. No one would've said anything disrespectful if AK or someone from the VC team had been here. It's like entering someones empty house and start arguing about the rules that should be set. And this includes everyone: those who think AK has ben neglecting his fans, those who unrightfully demand a tutorial, those who think he should be left in peace and that we should not even express an opinion regarding his absence, those who think we all should be patient and those like myself who are just curious about what's going on and cannot explain why his so silent. My belief is that none of all this anarchy should be going on.
Since I think that ThatGuy's interpretation of what's going on - and the way he has expressed it - is just a contribution to enforce that very vile community that he attacked, making himself, me, and ALL of us a part of it, I think that the only thing to do now is just let things be. If Ak comes back, great, if not, he surely has his good reasons.
There's no reason for debates here. This blog, as it has become over the last few months (and last few weeks especially) has no longer anything to do with what VC used to be, that is because VC has been abandoned - temporarily I hope - and we all, for a reason or another - but always related to AK's absence - have just gone insane. But the fact is that whoever is here posting on this blog, in the end just wants AK back because he is a cool guy and we all miss him and that is the only thing that counts according to me. That being said, I'm still waiting to see CarrotGuy's work ))
Cheers

Mike....i guess the truth hurts if you have to resort to calling me names. I'm not that sensitive so I won't go down to your level. Some have nothing better to do than vent their frustrations because they are not getting something they want. When you write those things, who are you thinking about more? Him, or you?

Before posting negativity, please look inward to what is driving your frustration. It is likely selfishness. Passing judgement on AK's post and absence is inappropriate. You do not really know what is going on in the man's life so passing judgement is plain ignorant. If you really have nothing better to do, I'm imagining there are a bunch of tutorials here that you still haven't mastered and be well served at re-visiting those. If you want to continue to be judgmental, self-righteous, and self-centered, I will pray for you.

It makes me sad to see so much negativity and is fairly discouraging to think "this is exactly how our society has become." Please be respectful. Please be kind. Please don't be fickle. AK has given much, he deserves better from those that have benefitted from his kindness.

People feel the way they feel. This does not require us to feel the same way, or to dismiss their feelings out of hand. I really don't understand why some here feel such a great need to express how wrong others are in their view of events...it's obnoxious. If people want to vent...LET THEM. If you're happy with how things are going...great! Post that! But for the love of god please stop the bickering. To me, Team VCP is the only hero in this story because they haven't tried to censor the conversation. Take a page from their play-book and just let everyone be how they are.

It's pretty obvious what's happened. AK has a full time (probably) gig working at Bad Robot, he's gotta finish Intercept (he's not gonna half-ass it guys), he's got a wife and kids, and he's got Video Copilot. Now if you were in his boat, and you had to pick ONE to put on the backburner, which one would you hold off on? Video Copilot can run on autopilot (pun possibly intended). His brother + staff can handle any software orders that come to the site as well as technical issues. It WOULD be nice for someone to let us know he's still alive, I get that. Andrew, I've made the mistake of not communicating with my fans before. I know it's hard, because everyone wants an explanation, and you don't have one other than you're ridiculously busy. I get where you're coming from. But not all of your fans are as understanding as I am. But the vast majority of us are ok with a simple "Hey, I'm still here. Sorry. It's been crazy. Just hang in there while I knock out all this stuff on my plate." Trust me. Take 5 minutes, and let us all know you're still alive. That will go a long way!

There???s no denying it, I have missed the tutorials, product updates, and all the other offerings of VC; however, due to the hiatus of new posts, I have probably engaged in more self-exploration of AE and E3D than I would have if AK had been present during the last six months, resulting in a richer and deeper understanding of these programs. The jist of this is, we can and should take responsibility for our own educational growth and not be reliant on others to achieve this for us. Until AK returns, and I believe he will, we should honor him and his site by continuing to build on the solid foundation of knowledge he has created for us. Thanks team VC for your invaluable contributions thus far!

Shut up guys. Videocopilot cant release new version of element and free plugins because they are dependent on the new functions in After Effects. And those functions are buggy as hell. As soon as Adobe release a new unbuggy version of After Effects - then you will get a Psunami of new produts from Videocopilot. So just relax.

Listen, Andrew has done more for us - for free - than anyone else in this community. Be respectful. If he isn't posting, it's because he's busy. He's probably burned out after what was a pretty intense gig and wanted to spend time with his family. While I'm sure he values all our appreciation and custom, we're not his family. So, shut the #%&! up. He'll be back when he's ready. In the meantime, get some therapy for your abandonment issues, make a cup of tea, go out and get some fresh air. Do whatever it takes. Write a script. Or actually apply the knowledge he's shared and come up with something amazing. Wait a sec, no, don't do that, there's too much competition for gigs as it is. Maybe ponder, as I do, why the font they used for the subtitle "The Force Awakens" doesn't match the font in the other scrolls. Really, I have no idea, but they did it. But whatever you do, don't whine, don't #%&! at AK, however passively you think you're doing it.

But really, just look how you turn on someone just because you're not getting your way. The monsters are due on Maple Street.

People.... seriously.... give Andrew a break. This is NOT a subscription based website. You get all these tutorials for FREE!!!! He does all this work and gives it to us all for absolutely no cost whatsoever!!!! Yes, he also sells some fabulous plugins and stock items but he's given us all so much, how on earth is ANYBODY complaining. People... he's done 150 + tutorials. If you're bored, go watch an old tutorial and see if you missed something. Or... better yet.... open up After Effects, plop a solid down or piece of video in your comp and start messing around with it! Push every button to see what happens. Stop relying on Andrew to come up with YOUR next idea. Be original, play around in AE and who knows.... maybe you can start your very own website dedicated to helping out the AE community for free. Then maybe your site will gain notoriety and companies will start wanting you to represent them and do speaking engagements or trade shows. Or you get hired by some big production company and you'll soon be working on bigger and better projects that pay the bills and allow you to continue helping other artists out for free. And then maybe someday you'll get the chance of a lifetime to work on a project you only dreamed about.... and it will take up almost all of your time.... And maybe then you'll realize that hey... maybe you shouldn't have given Andrew so much crap for the time he couldn't post more FREE stuff on his site. Then again... maybe you'll just write a nasty reply to this post and wait around until Andrew posts another tutorial that you can copy for your next project.

Andrew.... thank you for EVERYTHING you do for our community. Not that you need any permission from us... but take your time. We'll see ya when we see ya.

I'm off to push a lot of buttons and see what happens.

Hi Andrew, i know you'll read all commends (atleast their first line, if that line doesn't show any intelligence you'll pass another). Or you read them regularly, you workaholic charismatic piece of universe ( :

Thank you for all your support!

For who complain about Element 3d's capibilities and how they can't use it;

guys it's a plug-in! Plug-ins are not a program. They make bunch of commands in simply 1 command. If you don't have command, they will sit and wait you till you rule them.

In case E3D give bunch of commands to AE! If you wanna create something in AE first of all you should dream about it. Then make research on St. Google how you can do that on AE (actually it will send you right here!)

I follow VCP since 2012, when i was work as a cameraman for a tv channel. I just want to make animations and our channel's animatiors were quit busy, they dont have time (and actually also they dont have enough knowledge, they usually edit templates). I made a few google searchs and found AK's tutorials. (also their torrents, Russians loves AK's tutorials ^^, )

i get %80 of my AE knowledge's from AK's tutorials. other %15 comes from 2d motion graphic artist. that mf %5 was pretty hard to learn in the begining "click that what happend? nothing! funk... what about this? duh! ookaay next?"

^^,

I won't keep that short that post. Many of you won't read long posts, and i don't care that group. "What i'm gonna do know" care that curious fellas!

I never copied AK's tutorials, i usually combined different tutorials. For example; city destruction i combined it with shockwave blast. Yes it's hard, but there is nothing easy (unless you stole someone's work, and i hate thives). If you believe yourself and enjoy what you do, i guaranteed you'll successful.

AK already create gigantic library for us. Even if you don't purchase any product from VCP you can create a lot of badass animation. plug-ins are just a tool for time saving. (they are save huuuuuuge time!) object-material packs are more than that but you can also create your own packs. Like AK, but it's pretty hard and takes a lot of effort!

You can make fair enough money with AK's tutorials results on freelancer sites. But for funk sake please dont clone them, put something in it from your mind!

THE IDIOTS WHO COMPLANING ABOUT AND BLAMING AK'S POSITION RIGHT NOW COME FORWARD!

You will never succeded anylize and understand other people's personality. Sorry...

He put too much effort for creating this comunity. It's not just a brand that he can sell easly for him. I don't believe, i know! Cuz i watched that AE speech, our life stories almost same till that Apple Macintosh Ford SE goes from home. My father and mother bought 1 of the 10 Mac in Turkey. It was 86 and after First Iraq war (91) our company bankrupted. I lost that beauty Mac when i was 11 years old and back to the Commodore 64.

anyway...

Unfortunately i didn't believe myself that much like AK did to himself. That's why i watched his tutorials and learned a lot of amazing things from him, otherway he would do that things and i believe he woudn't complain.

That's how we doin "beach"! ^^,

I hope my first line works and AK found some intelligent in it.

Does anyone even remembers FRES? Anyway.. thank you for everything, but it's time to move on. Good luck Andrew!

I find it wierd the way this no reaction thing is working.
One simple reaction from anyone from the VCP team would be nice
But at the same time I can't believe that AK and the rest of VCP team are having a great time reading all these comments and see the years of hard work comming down thes people are good people and I hope this all comes to a great suprize of cool stuff and hope other people can see it more positve
if this was a Goodbuy I think AK would let us know and he didn't so.... just be patient people don't fire up more pressure they don't
deserve it!

Hope to here from you VCP team and AK, whenever you guys are ready doing whatever needs to be done!

So, we are 2 months after the "I'm back in full force!" note and nothing.
This is puzzling and does not bode well for us. It is hard to imagine that being an effects wizard for even big picture studios is more lucrative than managing a world renowned effects company.
If that's what AK decided to do the next step would be to sell VCP but dropping communications with customers is not a good way to prop the value of your company for sale.
I'm concerned that Andrew may have larger concerns than making a buck and if that is the case, i wish him all the success in that I can whether it be health or family.
I personally know that having a huge "must do" project takes a toll on the family.
Regardless, i've benefitted greatly from the VCP software and have enjoyed the tutorials. I'd hate to see them go but I'm sure Andrew is focusing on the right priorities.

i totally agree with you. this takes the biscuit. there are other new ucoming artists elsewhere now that are sharing the love, perhaps vcp has had its day now. Commitment to customers and community have fallen from what a fantastic community it once was.

Ironically, Andrew does know this, but doing nothing to give people confidence is a big no no. ive complained about this before but, whatever you say they just delete and it falls on deaf ears.

Andrew, Wake up! youre losing your community............

I???ve been a fan of Mr. Kramer for about 10ish years. I stumbled on him when I was trying to make some backgrounds for a digital signage system at a college. Checkout VideoCopilot.net in 2005, https://goo.gl/HnbTc6. The resources are still downloadable by the way. He greatly impacted my life and brought a new joy to my work. He made the process fun and exciting and his tools, products and tutorials have been more valuable to me than any other site I have used before or since. I don???t work in the video or graphic design field anymore but I still visit the site just about every time I look at my favorites and see VCP at the top of my list. And I recommend his business model to anyone thinking of building a website/community. I do wish I saw more of his smiling mug on the site but I completely support his new adventures and wish him well. I also hope that the site could evolve into a community site where the talents of those who love VCP can offer their own training videos and insights. I???ve seen some great talent out there and this site has brought them together and should leverage their enthusiasm and creativity. Anyways???Long live Mr. Kramer and VCP!

You know what? I bought Element 3D versions 1 and 2 AND watched the free tutorials too. I did not buy any Video Copilot stuff because of the free tutorials - these free tutorials were not promised as part of any package - they are a FREE bonus! Today, I am as limited in my ability to use any Video Copilot software, perhaps due to my lack of imagination or the lack of time I put into using these tools, not because of any lack of tutorials on how to use them - there are more than enough of these on this website! I find it slightly bemusing that some would purchase a tool of magic and imagination and wait time after time for a tutorial that shows them how to use the magic in it, but then never apply any imagination, and somehow blame this on the lack of presence of Andrew Kramer through their negative comments! :-/

One, Who gives a rats ass about tweater? we are on VC.net. You don't go to burger kind and expect the menu to be at subway do you? like wise if AK has put his name on this site why ovoid updating it and update elsewhere?

two.... your link in your name goes to a website riddled with malware! when clicked on you get the following message.

"The site ahead contains malware

Attackers currently on www.deepearthsaga.com might attempt to install dangerous programs on your computer that steal or delete your information (for example, photos, passwords, messages, and credit cards)."

what the hell would you post that crap for on a site like this? You are.... A Pr*ck!

Whilst you make many, many excellent points, Sean, and whilst your English comprehension is equally top-notch, I can't help but wonder whether your sarcasm is somewhat indicative of an acknowledgement that the comments from people here that AK has "betrayed" them and so on are any less than ridiculous?
It must be in your personality to wish you were as creative and smart as other people to be so butthurt that Andrew isn't freely spreading his tutorials as often these days for you to copy, absorb and leach.
It's not like the entire internet is full of other equally free resources for learning how to do cool stuff.
Your sense of entitlement runs deep.
I repeat: get over yourself.
Sean
mmm...ThatGuy, the point you do not seem to get is that everyone has the right to have an opinion as long as it is not offensive. Now mine is actually very close to yours, meaning that I think that AK is free to do what he pleases and should left in peace if that is his wish. What he has done so far for the community is way more than anything anyone else has done.
That being cleared, there is no reason to offend others by saying they are all just ridiculous for expressing an idea different from yours. The fact that you tell others to get over themselves is a paradox as the sentence itself is so presumptuos. Why so arrogant? Your sarcastic allusions to my English comprehension for example (Eng is my 3rd language btw...) is once again proof of the unnecessary arrogance I'm talking about. What's wrong with you??
Maggot
Hey Sean, I can see how ThatGuy's tone in his statement can be off putting. I kinda relate to his sentiments about the complainers and ones threatening to abandon VC to get them to do something. There are resources out there to continue learning After Effects & Element 3D. Patience is a virtue and I regularly check VC on a daily basis waiting for new content. Andrew Kramer will release something someday but I not going put him down or I say I'm done with VC. You just got to find other ways to make it work and wait til he comes back. Negative opinions and complaints won't anyone any good. We to support Andrew & VC as he did in the past for us.
ThatGuy
I don't think arrogance means what you think it means.
Arrogance, as in the exaggerated opinion of oneself or ones own worth, such as feeling entitled or owed for something you're not. Not as in telling people to get over their arrogance.

And quite frankly, if people are offended or not doesn't mean anything to me. They can be offended. So what? That doesn't mean anything. Who cares if you're offended that I called you ridiculous? I will just call you ridiculous again for getting offended by that. You can't go around saying a man has "betrayed" you or "let everyone down" for not offering weekly free tutorials and then get offended when someone tells you that's ridiculous.
ThatGuy
Aaaaand while we're talking about it, there's nothing presumptuous about commenting on actual things that people have said. That's observation.
It's as simple as this: if you say you've been betrayed, I say that's ridiculous and to perhaps re-evaluate what is truly owed to you.

As soon as you pay for something and the service isn't delivered, you can go ahead and complain.
But as someone else mentioned, you don't go to the grocery store, buy a carrot and expect the person who sold it to you to teach you tons of different ways to cook with it. Hell, they might decide one time or fifty times you come through to give you some ways you can cook with it. That doesn't mean that because they've supplied you with a carrot which you have paid for, you are entitled to a lifetime of free recipes with detailed instruction on creative ways you could cook with it. They've showed you before. The product still works as a carrot. Go and figure out some creative ways to cook with it by yourself.
Sean
So you don't think arrogance means what I think it means! That's interesting. So you'd rather prefer it to be what YOU think it means, right?! hahahaha That's fair, man. When it comes to defining arrogance you're certanly the expert here, but hey, who am I to say?! that's just my ridiculous opinion based on my bad English comprehension.
I do understand that you know carrots very well though. So you say you buy them and then find creative ways of using them without bothering the grocer with lots of questions? I'm glad for you.
Like I mentioned before: you are obviously a genius.
But then again...perhaps I don't know what "genius" means and you are just a ridiculous air soul like everyone else.
Dont' bother replying. Let's cut it here, shall we?
Good bye and good luck.

ThatGuy
I'm going to be "presumptuous" and assume that your "English comprehension" is good enough that you've understood my points, but your pride just doesn't let you accept it and so you respond with what I guess you consider wit. That's cool, man. Whatever makes you feel more important.
StevenJ
The thing about a carrot and what makes it presumptiuous to expect recipes from the person selling you the carrot is that information about cooking carrots is available everywhere. Bettye Crocker, Better Homes and Gardens, Pinterest, you name it. There is probably an endless supply of freely available information about not only how to prepare a carrot, but all kinds of ways to prepare a carrot that no one has ever thought of. But what happens when the grocery store introduces Carrot 2.2? There are all of these cool brochures and photos of what you can make with this new, unusual kind of carrot. If you read between the lines of the brochure, and a bunch of failed recipes later, you start to learn how to use some of the 100-plus added features of Carrot 2.2. But it's frustrating sometimes. To use Carrot 2.2, a brand-new, more powerful stove is required. And you need to make sure your stove is on Carrot 2.2's supported stove list. Meanwhile, you know Carrot 3.0 will be out before too much longer, and to use those new features might require yet another stove to ccok it with.
StevenJ

Sorry, I waxed on. Just my 2 cents on comparing the purchase of a 50-cent carrot with a $200 plugin. And in my mind, anyone hanging around this blog is on the same level as everyone else, myself included. At least I can admit it.

It's different if Andrew Kramer was trying to release a camera and it didn't ship on time *cough* *cough* looking at you Blackmagic, but he has created a website that there have been free tutorials given for the past several years. Most sites or people charge for what he has put out. He has come out with some great products that I know I use daily as well as others. Most of all he has a family which is going to be the first and foremost in your life.

I usually don't defend people or companies from certain types of behavior but let's be honest, he never had to do anything he has done. The tutorials are here for you to learn from and make them your own, or create something new. If it were not for Andrew, I know for a fact that I wouldn't even be a quarter of where I am at now in AE. I wouldn't have great optical flares, muzzle flashes, and 3d to name a few.

Am I disappointed that there hasn't been any new content? Of course, but it's not like he was saying "I have Element 3d V3 with tons of new content coming out next week" and then we don't hear from him at all. I'm probably more disappointed to not see Intercept than anything else.

But don't kid yourselves because if you had the opportunity to work on Star Wars, or any other movie using AE or Nuke or whatever, that would be your main focus next to family. We create films, vfx, etc, for people to see our stuff and to get somewhere. He did that, without asking for anything back and I applaud him for it.

So please don't be ungrateful to someone that has given quite a damn bit for free.
Well said, Very true, Andrew does not owe anyone, anything. I know I would not have made it where I am without the help of AK, it taught me the fundamentals of AE and what I needed to know. Where you take it after that is up to you, if you can not make it with all the "free" information he has pretty much dropped on your lap, maybe you should become a plumber.
George Laird
well said, I look forward to seeing Andrew's next tut, and it will be brill, because just when you thin k he can't top himself, he pulls out a rabbit out of the hat every time. I learned alot from Andrew, and we still have 158 tuts to do some catch up for ideas.

Andrew deserves his success, so I wait patiently, and I know he will deliver, so people, we have a top professional willing to help us, and it doesn't cost just a dime.

I will never do what Andrew is capable of, but I try my best, and think how lucky I am, and we are.

This is the best site for AE as I have ever found, and it always will be.

I might never be a real VFX guy but I would like a crack at being a stromtrooper.

I totally 100% agree TERK. Very well said. I am very grateful for the hours and hours of FREE training and also some free plugins along the way.

Family does certainly come first. Career making money second. And finally if you have time serving a community of hungry faceless hordes complaining for more free stuff who complain when you take a freaking break. Jeez.

Give the guy a freaking break. He'll be back. So just wait in the choppa.
Dan
It's amazing that there is so much free content on the website. I've used it and the tutorials for the last several years to get better at what I do.

But when we start PAYING for tools that we use on a daily basis professionally, we have every right to be concerned and frustrated. It's not about getting free stuff, it's about knowing that a tool which is essential to our workflow will still be supported when Adobe inevitably drops a major update of AE.

I was led to believe that there was a team working at VC. It baffles me that there is no communication about these concerns from any of them.

Don't cry on the way out the door, or wait you already were.
Just don't check back as often. I check back here every two months and if there is an update, great and if not no worries. There is so much FREE content on this site that I can rewatch and sharpen my skills.

Keep in mind that creating a tutorial does not take the 45 minutes it takes to watch one. It takes a lot of time to plan, edit and upload.

A lot of sites charge for what he puts out. The free content is amazing and there are no ads on his site that he gets paid on. So all of his videos are truly free content.

The plug-ins that he and his team have created cost money but are a fraction of the cost of what they are truly worth.

I think you need to reconsider removing this site. If you do, the only one losing out will be you.

It's not the missing tutorials that people are mad about, it's the complete lack of communication. We all understand that Andrew was working hard with Star Wars for the past few months, but updating the blog once every two weeks isn't asking too much. Since SW debuted 7 weeks ago we thought ok two weeks to relax and maybe we will get some communication. Hell it doesn't even have to be AK himself, any one of the staff could have chimed in to say whats been going on at VCP. The community is feeling abandoned because we are having a one way conversation.
Lou
I agree with Kevin. Heck we never got 2 tutorials a week so no one is crying about that. And yes AK has done so much for everyone. But he has built an incredible brand here and for the sake of his brand and his very loyal followers, VC should have been ready for their leader to take a leave for his great gig. Anybody who has tried to build a company knows how hard it is to build a brand and brand loyalty. This gap in communication was a huge misstep for VC. Someone needs to step in and talk to its customers because they are all feeling very abandoned.

^__^ man... AK's first 20 tuts are more than enough to make a change in one's life, he's been more than generous to do what he's done so far and that is despite the fact he's done it in his own interest. Anybody who needs more tuts than the existing ones to make money has taken the wrong path in life. So, we're all on the same side here, those that are disappointed (or even angry) cause AK's missing and those that are: Don't worry AK, even if you never come back we stay BFFE!. Tuts are not the point here... we just want him back. But hey...constructrive criticism I appreciate, while all that: "don't you dare say anything negative against my best friend AK" is just ridiculous Vladimir. And I'm saying this just because AK and I are actually BFFE.. but just me and him, not you! so stay away! ))

Vladimir,

Sean gave constructive criticism where its due and isn't blowing smoke up someones a*s with silly comments like Kramer for president" when the man isn't contributing to his own website. He doesn?t have time to be here. What good would he be as president? Unless you mean the president of the game peek-a-boo?

Lately Andrew hasn't let down one singular person. He has let down the whole community, FilmRiot with an unfinished project from LAST summer, and I'm sure the rest of the VC team that are there for technical issues are tired of reading how much he is missed/ not communicating when they are the only ones still here. He "appears" to be the only one pulling the strings on this site. Making them look bad which isnt fair on them and I'm sure they have voices that want to be heard.

As many have said over the last 10 months, VC turned into a business the second they start charging money for products. That holds a whole new agenda way beyond free tuts which MOST closed minded members of these blogs tend to have.

We ARE ALL on the same side, we just dont all blow unnecessary smoke just for fear of disrespecting the man. Respect is also saying dude, youre letting not only your site down, your followers down, your brothers at filmriot down, your paying customers down, but Also Andrew, You?re letting yourself down and destroying what you strived so hard to build, and not being honest and saying hey, its time to close the doors and showing THAT respect to your followers. Instead we are again riding another 2 months on the back of another blog post saying ?I?m back? -_-

I have been reading everyone???s posts on this blog with amusement. Hasn???t anyone though about what is happening in Andrew Kramer???s life?

He is moving on up to bigger and better things, such as feature films. His time is limited. He has a family, then his work with JJ Abrams and lastly Video Copilot.

It is obvious that Video Copilot is falling to the wayside. Oh yes, he will pop in once in awhile, but he is heading into a new direction. If we were in his position we would be stretched for time. Something has to give???

Over the last year and a half, the blog posts have slowed down to a crawl. The forums are not anywhere near as active as they use to be. Nothing new in the way of products.

If you take a look at his webpage stats on Alexa, traffic is down by 37% in the last year. And I would guess, what traffic he is getting is people checking in to see if he made a new blog post. Once they see there is nothing new, they???re off the site and onto somewhere else.

Take a loot at his Twitter or Facebook page, rarely a post. If you think about it, how long does it take to do a Tweet? He says he's back in full force, but....

I am sorry to say, it doesn't look like he has the time folks.

I am wondering if he will either sell off Video Copilot or just let is sit with an occasional post. He may try to prop up Video Copilot with a few tutorials or blog posts, until the next big project comes along. Then Video Copilot will sit quietly again.

I, like everyone else, would love to see Andrew come back and be more active with Video Copilot, but I really believe his life and company is moving into a new exciting direction.

It???s nothing new folks, it happens all of the time. People and businesses move on, they grow into new directions. Yes, they try to cling onto the past, be eventually they have to let go.

Adrew, I wish you well.

I'm not sure why you would want another 3D tracker when there are top-notch products such as Mocha Pro, developed by a company whose sole focus is motion tracking? Besides, motion tracking requires intimate knowledge in machine vision (my field of expertise) which is entirely different than the manipulation and display of 3D objects.

Yes we don't pay a dime, that is true. However to say he has not benefited both financially and otherwise by having thousands of people waiting to see what he does next is just foolish. This is a mutually beneficial relationship Andrew has with his followers. In return for free content, we buy his plugins, we follow his tweets, watch him speak in public, etc. What we as his loyal audience provide should not be discounted.

VC has been around for quite some time now. I certainly have benefited from FREE quality training although I have purchased around 75% of the plug-ins.

It makes real business sense to re-build the site and bring the whole package up to date. I think VC and GGG would struggle to keep going if they stayed with the old business model.

This is all speculation of course. What I know is what I have been reading here recently.

John,
The ?free tutorials? are part of the VC business model to promote the website and their products, to make money!!

I am a paying customer, and have as a nice amount of $ spent on VC products
So in my humble opinion based on my purchases, and time investment of VC products I have the right to be concerned.
John
Wim
You Have the right to be concerned ... but lets think the other way you spend $ for free tutorials or for products you liked?
the support team still working on those products and solving your issues?

Of course we should be worried about this sudden silents
and yes i am

but i am talking about the attitude and blaming him for not doing "free tutorials" other peoples is blaming him for making a lot of tutorial around his products!

while actually if one of us get his chance to work in those movies ... we all know the rest

Sean
Brian, if some people disliked your videos then perhaps - like you said - there may be some issues in your work, but if I may give you a piece of advice: don't get upset, just go through your work and fix those things that are not convincing. Personally I think you are on a good track but details count a lot especially when it comes to compositing and there I think your work still lacks a lot. For exapmle when I saw the first dust puff at 01" which occurs at a certain distance in space and then is still in front of the car when the car is much closer to the cam, I thought mmm..., then as I checked the rest of it I found the lighting on the car a bit unrelastic especially on the rear part of the car at 3" and so some reflections too. Then the absence of a driver doesn't seem to bother you and I understand why, but if it is realism you're after then that cannot be considered as a small detail. Besides all that I think your work is good, but I'm not surprised you don't get "wow" comments and do get some dislikes. I'm not the kind of person that would set a dislike on someone's work but this clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kcNGhDU1eQ is something I would not have posted if I were in your shoes, it is very amatorial and features bad design. Hope you don't misunderstand my words, it seemed like you wanted some feedback and this is just my opinion. Other than that, I respect everyone making an effort to improve their work and something tells me you have that attitude, so all the best.
Peace
Brian Stevens

To all the people crying about the lack if a tutorial/post since Andrew announced that he is back: what do you think he is doing now? Think about it. He knows the expectations are at an all time high, and his standards have, more than likely, been raised by his experiences over the last 6 months.

He is finished off the Intercept short and doing the tutorial at the same time so when they both hit our screens we won't be disappointed. Cut the guy some slack. His workload and commitments have been at 100% for such a long time, we should be grateful that he is willing to impart more to us.

The VC team are ground breakers. Let them do what they do.
StevenJ

Aidan,

Thank you for the communication. Not asking for groundbreaking stuff instantly. Just a word on what is happening. Again, thank you!
Sean
Aidan, whoever expects AK to drop a cool tutorial whenever we want one and feels that AK owes the community something is with no doubt out his mind. And I think that any reasonable person has to agree on this. Nevertheless, one cannot disagree that VC has been kind of abandoned during the last 7 months (the blog at least, I don't know about the custom service) and considering that the blog is VC's engine, well then there is nothing to be surprised of if people wonder and ask what the hell is going on. If you also consider that Element 3D is a piece of software that very smartly integrates 3d technology into AE!! and that not even Adobe has done that!! then it is quite normal in my opinion to be a bit shocked before this lack of communication, promotion, organization, and all those things that one would expect a successfull business to do, which in a nutshell is: taking good care of what you've created. The mere fact that we are here discussing this and nobody from VC has intervened says it all. There are people advertising their stuff and nobody gives a damn; that's not normal, especially so for a business company such as VC. That doesn't change the fact that AK is a bloody genius! But the way VC has been "run" lately is quite puzzling and that in my opinion is undeniable. That's all, and it has nothing to do with people not wanting AK to have his deserved break. He's obviously free to do whatever he pleases - including destroyng VC if that is his wish - but can you blame us for being surprised??
Aidan
Sean, what you have said is very true and accurate. BUT, the one thing that makes this situation different is that AK is the founder, creator and star of the videos we see/learn from and HE is the one person that had to leave for a while.

With that in mind I didn't really expect anything different. Once his work on Star Wars was finished (and who knows what opportunities that has presented to him) he has to adjust back to normal life and continue where he left off.

Simply put, he's back and on the case. Life should be resuming as normal.

Reading through these comments, something dawns on me... there are few internet communities as utterly selfish as the VideoCopilot community. This man has devoted years of his life to create amazing content for you people, and all you ever want is more, more, more. Let the guy (who has clearly worked hard all year) have a holiday, spend some time with family, and if he so chooses, focus entirely on his career and let VideoCopilot be. It remains a website bristling with resources and information. Stop complaining, use it and go make something yourself.

Considering that VC is most surely made up by a team, it is really odd that noboby has been assigned to communicate here. I understand that AK himself has always taken care of the blog - and that's always been great and has made VC so special - but at this point I think that anything would be better than the actual situation here. I'm pretty sure that the product support is still active, cause if not, this would be one of the worst cases of a business falling apart due to neglicence. I think that putting the blog in maintenance mode would be a much better choice than whatever choice has been made here. Andrew, your contribution to the VFX and motion g. community growth is astonishing, undeniable and will always be; and as I pointed out in the past I am pretty sure that you have no idea of how some people's lives have changed thanks to your contribution, so I think that all your fans will always be here waiting no matter what, but all this also loads you with a great responsibility towards them and this is despite the fact you owe nothing to any of us. Man you're spiderman and you chose that, no us so please come correct. Respect, S.
StevenJ
Let me go ahead and say what someone else will. You're not allowed to criticize! Not even constructively! Just because this is a business and expectations have been set. There will be another blog post, probably in June. Meanwhile, keep aimlessly fiddling with the controls in Element 2.2.2 that have no instructions, and maybe you will stumble upon a solution!
ThatGuy

I don't.... think he chose to be spiderman. I think he chose to create a website bustling to the brim with free resources for budding VFX artists, and top of the line cheap paid products. He also has a career. I'm so confused by your comment. You note that he owes his fans nothing, because he doesn't. But your comment still reeks of "you owe us to put your family and career and hold and keep offering us free stuff".

StevenJ - BS... If this was another company like Microsoft or Apple etc. everybody would scream like hell. Yes Andrew is awesome, and yes he needs a break, nobody disputes that.. BUT Sean is not wrong, as a owner/manager, Andrew should have appointed someone in his place just to keep the communication going on the blogs... By just creating the website and products, he gave himself some responsibility towards us, if he doesn't want the responsibility anymore, he should hire someone in he's place or close the site. Again, Andrew is a god, and yes we are only minions, but dam man, a simple reply is not much to ask for...
sean

Not sure on how to interpret your comment.
Nevertheless, mine is just a humble opinion which I think is fair. Honestly if one always has to consider what "someone else" with unreasonable expactions may have to say (like not wanting people to express constructive criticism) well then internet may as well die.
Dan
I think Steven is referencing the people who feel like (and will tell you) that we have no reason to "complain" or expressed concern or frustration over the lack of activity on VC. They are, of course, mistaken. Seeing as people work professionally with these products, we have every reason to be concerned about VC's activity (or lack thereof).
StevenJ
Sean, I agree with everything in your post. While I see that there are some who make unfair demands of Andrew, there are some (like you) who post constructive criticism of the site. They are usually bashed verbally for this.
ThatGuy

Will your products stop working if Andrew doesn't do a blog post once a week, Dan?
Sean
Thanks for clarifying Steven. What you say is true, but then again unreasonable people will always exist and since there's not much one can do about it, they may as well speak so that everyone else can know who they are. Cheers

btw, I would really like to know, the relationship between Star Wars and Bad Robot, It's just because JJ Abrams it's the director? so the next episodes that will be directed by someone else, wouldn't be a Bad Robot production? does they go arround carrying their own crew team, like Mr. Kramer, between different franchises?
Jason

I wish Andrew was more active on the site. Not even so much as putting out tuts which obviously we would all love but I mean just interacting in general. Maybe answer some questions in the blogs (Which he only seems to do when releasing a product and it involves questions regarding his product they are trying to sell). Also just posting more blog stuff. Nothing crazy time consuming just a paragraph here and there keeping the community he built up over the years more in touch and involved. Just something I would love to see.

Hey, Andrew and the video copilot team! Happy New Year!

I am so happy to see how you grown and advanced through the years. It is truly a beautiful thing to watch progress through the years. When you started doing work for Mr. Abrams I figured like many others you be on the path to doing some work on Star Wars. Your work is nothing short of top notch and you in many ways have defined a style and look that all your own. You are at the point in your life that many of us hope to be. You have definitely living the dream. I commend you on all your achievement and I thank you for all you given to the community. I wish you and your team all the best in the New Year and I look forward to witnessing the new chapter in your story.

Andrew literally made the movie with his VFX input. I'm sorry I felt the Force Awakens was not that good of a story, not well written with zero character motivation. BUT, the vfx was spot on and certain things I spotted I can tell it was Andrew. Great job!!

@Eric, If every movie was to supposed to be fun then everyone could make a $200 million dollar movie. Just cause the name of the film is Star Wars doesn't absolve the issue of character motivation and what makes sense in a realistic way. It was a fun movie, but I am a writer and director and what pushes the story along is character motivation. I could list the issues but for the people who haven't seen the film I don't wish to ruin it for them. Just because the name of the movie is Star Wars directed by JJ Abrams won't stop me from pointing out the obvious. One issue is how can Finn who has zero sabre fighting skills last as long in a fight with Ren when it showed at the very beginning how powerful Ren is? Makes no sense. But I don't want to get into trolling and a discussion on Andrews page.
SPOILERS!!!

Well Mr. Writer I guess you weren't paying much attention. Finn is a future Jedi.

1. Finn broke through his First Order indoctrination on his first mission.
Let me be clear. I?m not saying it isn?t possible for other troopers to go rogue fresh off the assembly line. But let?s be real. How often in ALL of the Star Wars Canon universe have you seen that happen? That said, if Finn was in fact Force sensitive, it explains how he was so easily able to break out of his programming.

And if you were really paying close attention during the opening battle sequence, you would have noticed that Finn?s perspective felt like a sudden and overwhelming expansion of consciousness?also known as an AWAKENING.

2. Kylo Ren sensed him in the Force
As a bee to honey, right after Finn?s ?awakening?, Kylo Ren literally turns and stares directly at Finn. Finn hadn?t yet awakened when he failed to shoot, and Kylo paid him no attention. It wasn?t until after the massacre had happened, and Finn was awake. And as if that wasn?t enough, When Finn and Poe escape in the TIE fighter, Kylo immediately knows that it was in fact FN that escaped, again, proving he was heavy on Kylo?s mind.

3. Finn felt the destruction of the Hosnian system
Remember in the middle of the film, the First Order destroys the Hosnian System, and when they did, something rather incredible happened. Finn actually felt it. He quite literally stops in the middle of his action, turns and looks up at the sky, and if you watch again, he even hears the exact same cries from the planet in his consciousness, verbatim. That calls back to Obi-Wan Kenobi back in A New Hope, who felt the destruction of Alderaan on the Millennium Falcon .

4. He easily took a hold of Luke?s lightsaber
Go back to the advertising campaign for the film and you will see that Finn using the saber was the big red herring, because it was eventually Rey that took the saber. However, I think it is a two-fold herring, because taking hold of a saber is a very big deal, and not just anybody can do it. In fact, I don?t remember any other non-jedi wielding a saber other than Han Solo himself. Which brings me to the fact that Maz Katana herself was more than happy to tell him that he ?already had a weapon? when they fought against the troopers. And as I?ve already pointed out, Han Solo is the only non-force sensitive person to have used a lightsaber in the movies and when he didn?t it wasn?t for a very long period of time.

5. He held his own in a fight against Kylo Ren
This is a very big deal as well. Think back to when Rey was unconscious, Finn had to fight against Ren without any Jedi training whatsoever, and yet he managed to stand his ground. Yes Kylo was injured, and yes he was eventually sliced in the back, but up to that point, Finn had only used a saber once before and there?s no way that was enough to take on the master of the knights of Ren.

There is no question that Finn is force sensitive. This is something they made beyond clear for those paying attention. The only real question is when will he become a Jedi, and who are his parents.

Maybe next time pay more attention to the movie you're dumping on..

I completely understand the situation what Andrew faces during the production. I'm the founder of RDGAudio Production house. https://www.fb.com/rdgaudios. So I know the hectic schedule and work pressure of Production.Andrew's VIDEO COPILOT is the only best place to learn After Effects from Basic to Advance level for FREE.Including 3DS Max and Photoshop with HD Videos.Andrew's aim is to share his experience among us what he learned and learning. Many peoples are disappointed on Andrew "disappearing from all social media and website". Some times director instructs don't share anything at all on social media. So it's ridiculous to say "disappearing from all social media
and your website". What will he write all time excluding tutorials? "I'm having dinner"..."Sleepless" bla bla...?? Folks give him some time.If he's unable to gather experience from Real Projects the how will we learn from him?We all know he is AE,VFX Prodigy but yet he is HUMAN.Those who are offended on Andrew I would like to say them all have patience.
VIDE COPILOT is still your best place for After Effects.

Andrew and all videocopilot crew: In years before this one at december I remember to open this page excited of what kind of free stock footage would you all share, and now I open it and find nothing but the same old posts whithout pretty much new stuff, but still somehow feeling even more excited, cause seeing your hardwork pushing you all to a upper level, I have watched Andrew in Adobe conferences (vía Youtube, money isn't easy here in México), and I remember the presentation of Element 3D, it was soo cool, when Andrew talk about the photos taked on that lobby with a celphone, I could only wish to be there so much. So I've been following this page from start many years ago, and now with not much updates I wanna tell everyone, it's not only tutorials but dreams what you've been sharing, just watch out how many comments there are in here below, how many people have learned so much from all of you. Anybody can share an idea, but only a true leader can not only share an idea but making it grow from the inside, kind of giving us an epiphany, giving us a dream, a reason for keep us learning each day, making us wanting to become as much as good as you in your workflow, so I wanted to write this before year ends, I think everyone are happy to watching videocopilot talking about so many big projects, JJ Abrams? my God that's so huge, and I literally waited alone in the movie theater to watch Andrew Kramer name on the Super 8 film's credits. So congratulations on this year achievements, good luck in future projects, and keep up the hard work, cause every very big step you grow up, we get a little big too, it's been an inspiration and an honor following this page from series one, so Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and we all will see you the next time.

Congratulations on an amazing opportunity. I can only imagine that motivation wasn't even an issue on a project like that. I've seen the film and its great to see that CGI isn't being overused where possible. Where real locations, objects and sets are used, I can imagine it helps the actors and just works better on film. Keeping one foot in the real 35mm world as well, you can see this authentic look in the grade and depth of the image. The CGI, where used, was executed so well, it wasn't distracting and added to the film. Amazing job from everyone who worked on this movie. Good luck and hope you get to work on the rest of the episodes. A dream come true.

Hi Andrew,
WOW! I'm so happy for you and your family. You worked so hard the past years and probably went through hard times now and then, but now you officially made it.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed a movie quite as much as I did The
Force Awakens. That movie made me cry, several times.

Congratulations Andrew, really happy for you. The theater heard me shout out "Look! There he is!" when Your name rolled down the screen.

Did you do the planet explosions / sun collapse? I was pretty sure that was you, looked similar to your work on Treck.
No worries Andrew. You've already taught us all so much and we were all excited to hear you were working on Star Wars. Can't wait to see it.

We all appreciate you coming back so quickly to help teach us what you've learned. I know how it can be working on those intense projects where you don't get the chance to eat or sleep so take as long as you need to get yourself healthy again.

As always super jealous you got to work on Star Wars! Always been a dream of mine too so hopefully your next tutorial will get me one step closer

Cheers.

Problem?
I have installed the most recent version (13.6) of After Effects which came out in November this year. On booting it up and going to Element 3D I got a warning notice informing me that Element.aex could not be loaded. Despite installing some 4 times now, I get the same notice. Basically this plugin does not work in the newest After Effects version. I've had no problems in past versions. Any ideas?

Hey Andrew,
Thank you so much for the time you dedicated to the Star Wars franchise. As a fan of Star Wars and your work, it was a special treat to watch The Force Awakens unfold right before my eyes. Congratulations! You sir...rock!

Sincerely,
Steve Wishart

PS - could you show us a tutorial on how to create the molten effect after a lightsaber strike. Much like the ones after Kylo Ren's tantrum?

I see in the IMDB page Andrew is shown as part of special effects, but in the movie credits (3D) he is listed only as titles and graphics. As much work as he put in I hope the DVD version is corrected in the end credits.

Andrew, Star Wars has been my favorite movie since it's opening in 1977. I was six years old and absolutely floored by the film. I'm not sure yet, still have to see it a few more times in the theater but this may be my new favorite! Maybe it was because my daughter and I sat in the front row of an IMAX theatre, but I left with that same feeling I had 38 years ago. Thanks to you and everyone else that worked on The Force Awakens. Also really excited to see you back at VCP!

Joining the fray to offer congratulations... The VFX were so seamlessly integrated with the overall composition. Looking back at the Phantom Menace with the new movie in mind, it's hard not to think of it as a step back for VFX--everything felt much more plastic. This chapter felt like returning to a world you've seen before. Nice job! And amazing to think of the progress you've made since beginning this site!

If you think working on a hugely anticipated effects driven film like a Star Wars movie is a "holiday", then you're an idiot.

This is the post I have been looking for...
Welcome Back from the dark side Andrew! Looking fwd to hearing all about Bad Robot and your experiences. Hopefully you have some exciting new products to 'Force' me to part with some more money again... What an amazing year this has been for you! Woohoo!
fantastic to see how you have worked with one of the most advanced project you can imagine. And of course they took in the master of AE to make these effects. And of course Welcome back Andrew. Will be a pleasure to follow your tutorials in the future. It has been a long time waiting for more, but i think it has been worth it. It´s not easy to master a product like AE, and it´s even harder to educate and be a good mentor for all people out there using your tutorials as guidelines.

What an amazing opp, JJ Abrams is the best director out there in my opinion, he nails every movie he ever does and is a total perfectionist. You deserve all the praise and the recognition for the part you played building this amazing movie and the ones to come, you are a motion graphics Jedi and you have made many of us young Skywalkers in the design world, glad to hear your back.

Andrew,

I'm supper happy for you! After all you've done and all the people you've inspired, you deserved to work on this film! I'm glad you've had the experience!

Can you tell us without a lot of detail and without spoilers what aspect of the film you worked on so we know what to attribute as "your work" while we watch the film? Sabers? Compositing? Video screen inserts? Holograms?

Thanks again for selflessly giving to the community! You're the best!

Your dedication to teaching through experience is a massive contribution to our community and I know I speak for everyone on this forum when I say your success is so well deserved. The last two years for me have been really rough, and the only thing that has been keeping me going is the energy that you have all put into the making of this film. Looking forward to an amazing 2016 from Video Copilot, and wish you and your family, and the Video Copilot team a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
