We are getting ready to release a new tutorial for the Portal effect from our Demon Cam promo video but I wanted to share one of the many additional tips you will find inside of this upcoming tutorial.

In this example, I've reused the original footage but implemented a system for realistically revealing the face coming through the portal. This could be useful for passing through energy fields or some sort of stargate time-travel thingy.

Hi Andrew. I have some question for you.Are you use transkoding in you works or work with native formats from dslr on PC? If you use transkoding, what formats are you use? Thank you for your job.

@Jordan M you are not right, if you watch the tutorial it is done by dept of field. The face and uhm "boobs"/body are more in front then her neck so her neck will appear later.. and some of the smoke can still get in front of her. So its not a mistake

Looks Great ! I have been waiting for some different angles on this. I tried to give you a plug on your action essentials 2 (best buy so far) on a basic tut for some of the ways to get a basic mist effect. I could not find any info online on how to do this. You inspired me to take a shot at making my first tut after I was asked to do a tut from others seeing my video experiments.I am no expert nor have any hd green screen footage but I thought it ( http://www.vimeo.com/26406640 ) would inspire others at least try other methods. After seeing your example today you have ( like always) have definitely inspired me . Thank You !

I've already used some of your techniques in a project of mine. For example, I used the "demon face" to "erase" a plaque from a wall in a handheld take. But I also have some moment in the action where some guys come out of a portal (so to speak) and I think this is going to come very, very handy.

I think the smoke needs distortion or displacement to really interact with the person coming thru it .right now it looks as to separate elements.

I would assume you are creating a separate mask for the head apart from the body so you can control opacity, feathering, etc. separately from the rest of her but I can't wait to find out a more user friendly work around...and stories, gotta have the stories, lol.

This is a really great effect. I have seen a lot of these where it is achieved with a flat opacity effect but this is MUCH more effective. She really looks like she is coming out of the smoke. Bravo, Andrew.

Mate, with more tutorials from you I'll continue to cream my competition here in P.N.G. Good stuff A.K you are a legend as always. Please make the "Organic Cam" a plug in...I'm sure you'd be able to explain the required expressions to make it work in a tutorial but when I'm pressed for time with a clients job, a plug in is always a great time-saver. VCP teams rocks!!! No if's, buts or maybe's!!

If you cant access to youtube... (like me in china but i use a VPN), try vimeo, he upload the video there too (vimeo is also blocked in china....) or if you cant use vimeo or youtube... Try the chinese website www.youku.com some videocopilot fan uploaded the video for chinese people. Im sure even you dont live in china youku.com is not blocked at all.

Ohh my friend, if you now, i live in cuba, and here the internet is blocked, i only can access to a few pages one of this is VC, but any other is blocked, so my only hope is see the video here or that someone upload the video to megaupload, this last i can access and donwload.

They used Fume FX to make that video. You would need to use 3ds max or similar.

Just a guess... But make an animated depth matte for the talent, and turn it into a track matte for the portal layer?

I really like your tutorials and hints.
Especially this one. I think it's very tough to create something like smoke revealing a face, which is very organic in a specific way.

It's always an easter egg to find a mistake. Pause at 3 seconds, and look at the line on her neck below her right chin. Face separated from body.
