Previous Projects with Expressions: Some Property names have changes which may cause expression links to break. However this change will help avoid expression conflicts in the future now that every parameter have unique names. If necessary all older versions of Element 3D are available in the download section if you need to revert to an older version temporarily.

Please note the updated GPU Requirements that have raised slightly after further testing.

March 26th, 2013 @ 4:32 pm
awesome update!! i noticed in the video demonstration you did more examples with air vehicles such as the plane and the jet will you consider doing a video tutorial on how to do a sky scene composite with element?
    Jake Simpson
    May 15th, 2013 @ 1:12 pm
I agree! I've been trying to find out how to do those backgrounds!
March 26th, 2013 @ 4:32 pm
Wow, though I really could have used a couple of these features on some recent work, I'm beyond thrilled you guys have gone through all the hard work for this. THANK YOU!

Your team's attitude towards making Element play nice with all other aspects of After Effects is amazing.

Thanks again!
March 26th, 2013 @ 4:36 pm
Thank you Andrew ! It's Christmas every two month thanks to Videocopilot !
One question still : is a "replace OBJ" asset being considered?
I used ELEMENT 3D for some parts of this TV IDENT I have codirected : https://vimeo.com/61104038
I had to make incremental OBJ replacements and it was really time consuming (as material and mapping went into chaos) I wish I could only replace the obj file (mesh) without affected any mapping/material setttings
    March 26th, 2013 @ 5:21 pm
I think that works... select the object in the scene and choose replace. Let me know.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 5:02 am
Thank you Andrew for you answer, I'll try it soon.
    April 1st, 2013 @ 11:03 am
Can you use the World Position Pass inside AE without the use of any plugins ? And if so, any video tutorials ?
March 26th, 2013 @ 4:37 pm
Very cool stuff Mr Kramer!
March 26th, 2013 @ 4:51 pm
a Perfect update! I remember sending VC an email about "Create Group Null"!!!! I guess others did too, so cool to see it came to life :)

Andrew Kramer and Video Copilot, you all are role model examples of how software companies should operate. Selling an already awesome product and updating and improving it for free. Awesome customer service and thoughtful and comprehensive support and tutorials. The community Thanks you, and your fan base has never been happier! Greetings from Germany - Ron

AGREED! Fan base is wide: I'm in Tanzania! Like a steam engine, about to explode and overstoked! Already making BIG use of element in my feature film. (action essentials, too!) Welcome to TZ for a holiday, bring Sam, we'll do a tut on someone eaten by a lion.

I'm creating something called Scenes of Sloth: Inaction Essentials. for like, bus stops, airport waiting areas, those kind of scenes, dentists'... SD, as i'm lazy

Another awesome (Free) Element update released the same day all the Autodesk software releases are announced....with far less features but charging about 30 times the cost of element3D!
March 26th, 2013 @ 6:12 pm
hi andrew, i have v1.6 in my que ready to download,i noticed the gpu requirements i have an amd radeon 6750 which i don't see on your list..if i did downloaded v1.6 will it crash or will i experience minor issues with this update..i know the risks..but i will still like to have an idea of what to expect..thanks
    March 26th, 2013 @ 6:20 pm
Not sure. If you are running OK now, it should be OK. You can always revert, email support and let us know and we can maybe edit the list.

    March 27th, 2013 @ 5:54 am
I have a Radeon 6750M and 1.6 installed fine and no crashes yet. It's from an early 2011 MacBook Pro. I've been running the 1.5.6 beta for a while now without incident so my gut tells me that 1.6 will run just fine.
    Tim Major
    October 27th, 2013 @ 5:06 am
David Parmenter: you seem to have the same hardware set up as me and I am having all kinds of trouble with this plugin. Can you confirm you system settings are the same/ similar to mine?

    17' MBP early 2011
CPU: 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7
    750 GB Harddrive
    16GB RAM 1333 MHz DDR3
    Radeon 6750M 1024mb Graphics
OSX 10.9 (although I had the same problems on 10.7)
Running AE CS4 with Element 1.6.2

The plug in runs extremely slowly but will not render at all. To be clear this system manages relatively complicated comps with ease generally.

If you can confirm your set up is similar and you seem to be operating the plug in trouble free, I can perhaps look for solutions that are not about hardware.

March 26th, 2013 @ 6:56 pm
hye andrew my graphics card is ATI radeon HD 5650 .

so this update work well with me graphics card or not ?
i have laptop so i cant change my graphics card. reply
March 26th, 2013 @ 9:12 pm
Incredible!!! Things will be easier and fun now... More tuts are welcome. Thanks to the team and bravo again.
March 26th, 2013 @ 9:22 pm
Great update! This will make the production workflow much smoother. The null creation for each group will be very helpful when the client needs to change everything in a short amount of time, and I have to move things around easily. The planar mapping is something I wanted from the beginning, awesome for this update. 3d occlusion with the depth pass was a great idea for inclusion! Thanks!
March 26th, 2013 @ 9:26 pm
Legit environment maps, will we seen an environment map pack soon?
March 26th, 2013 @ 9:52 pm
YES!!!! Your a life saver! I guess my client has to wait a little bit longer for a much better film! thnx man ;-)
March 26th, 2013 @ 10:27 pm
thanks for this amazing plugin...i just want to see a tutorial how to import obj model and texture from MaYa to element 3d or else 3ds max?
i m really crazy about the work u do..god bless u with good work ahead..i had a wish to work with u some day..
March 26th, 2013 @ 10:30 pm
The Generate 3D position does not work with a animated OBJ Sequence? Or am I doing something wrong?
    March 26th, 2013 @ 11:02 pm
You mean, will the point stay connected to the surface that is animated? Then no, it is a current time point generator.
    March 26th, 2013 @ 11:32 pm
Nuts! I was afraid of that. Thnx for the quick reply! Awesome update anyway. So is it possible to do this in element 3d v.2 ;-)
    April 11th, 2013 @ 5:18 pm
Andrew...just to clarify. It generates a null object based on current time...but could you use a expression to animate the null in relation to a model? Not thinking so much for animated .obj's but rather to keep a null attached if moving the model in 3d space
March 26th, 2013 @ 11:07 pm
Love the plugin, and all of your products. I just updated to 1.6, however, I have received an OpenGL error and program crash every time I try and generate the null from the 2D position. Anyone else experience this problem?
    March 27th, 2013 @ 9:23 am
I'm having the same issue. Receiving these messages when generating the null. "After Effects Warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands." "After Effects Error: internal verification failure, sorry! {layerH connot be NULL} ( 5027:: 111).

Running a 2012 Mac Pro with NVIDIA Quadro 4000, AE CS6. I updated Cuda but still have the crash.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 11:02 am
I'm having the same issue and am working with VC support to figure out a solution.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 12:44 pm
Ya, possibly a bug, still trying to track down the cause. All of our testing machines are fine. Can you send a project and specs to support if you have not already.
    March 28th, 2013 @ 7:32 am
Have the same issue - a little bit disappointing, wanted to check out this function, but I think and hope an update will follow to fix this…
    March 28th, 2013 @ 3:50 pm
    March 28th, 2013 @ 5:16 pm
I was upset too but quickly felt better when AE apologized in the error message. "NOOO don't crash you piece of...ohhh..you..you're apologizing. Don't sweat it AE, we'll get it next time."
    March 29th, 2013 @ 7:30 am
Seeing same crash on multiple macs---i cant find a machine that this doesn't crash AE.
    March 29th, 2013 @ 12:17 pm
Please contact support if you haven't already. Thanks.
    March 31st, 2013 @ 5:12 am
same here, will be contacting support post haste. It's easter, so I thought: no, I'm being punished for all the things I've destroyed... then saw the post. AK: loving the updates otherwise!
    April 2nd, 2013 @ 4:30 pm
same problem here!, when I extrude a simple text... the element crash.
    May 1st, 2013 @ 8:07 am
I'm getting the exact same error trying to generate a null, even when creating a fresh project from scratch.
    June 25th, 2013 @ 1:45 am
    Same problem here !
is there a way to disable OpenGl in Element?
March 26th, 2013 @ 11:19 pm

I have received an OpenGL error and program crash every time I try and generate the null from the 2D position.
March 27th, 2013 @ 2:41 am
Amazing - but i´m failing to make use of those null Objects within sure target. Does it work at all?
March 27th, 2013 @ 2:54 am
Hej guys. Once again, you have blown my mind with all the great work you have done. Many thanks to all at VCP.
March 27th, 2013 @ 3:05 am
Slightly disappointed that my card has gone from being 'Pretty Good' straight down to 'Limited' without even joining the previous 'Okay' category inbetween them, I'll be honest. Especially as that list was the defining factor on my choice... shelled out over $1000 just a few months ago.

Ah well, these things happen I guess... and I can't really comment without running 1.6 for a while, it is just a change of position in a list after all. Plus, the majority of software specs only have two categories... minimal and recommended, so I'm guessing VC want a bit of consistency. I would prefer the word minimal over limited though. Sounds a bit better!
    Luis Martin
    March 27th, 2013 @ 4:21 am
So, you rather a lie than the hard truth? is that what you mean? I prefer the honest truth so then I won't be dissapointed. I spent about $150 in a GTS 450 and I have great results with Element 3D 1.5, I don't think price is the problem here.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 8:35 am
But surely if the honest truth was that you've got to have all your arms and legs removed without anesthetic... you'd still be disappointed?! But back to the matter at hand... I'm not sure it is the hard truth, I mean I find it hard to believe that VC have conducted extensive testing on each and every one of the over 100 cards in that list. I have great results as well, I just found it strange that my card went from being pretty good to being limited overnight, when the 1.6 changes (although very impressive) aren't really that excessive.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 12:42 pm
What card did you get? Quadro 4000? I personally don't like those cards, too expensive.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 9:52 am
What video card did you buy? If you spent $1000 on a new video card series just months ago, it should be a bad ass card.
    Jeremy Abbott
    March 27th, 2013 @ 1:21 pm
If you did go with Quadro, I'm pretty sure Adobe has gone on record to say that the Quadro line is not the ideal card to be using for the Mercury engine/CUDA stuff. My understanding is Quadro cards are specifically tailored for real workhorse rendering stuff, not live rendering of graphics and effects.
March 27th, 2013 @ 3:57 am
Just wondering why there is no multi dimension scale control neither in per object basics nor in regular basics..
Also the shadow and reflection would also add smell to this gold
Great product. Loved it !
March 27th, 2013 @ 4:19 am
I hope someday this plugin cover some of these feature's
Real Time Shadow
Physic's such as BOUNCE AIR GRAVITY
put some crack's on extruded text, I mean, just like rayfire..
March 27th, 2013 @ 5:21 am
How did you do that Tron gradient thing? That looked fantastic.
    November 12th, 2013 @ 10:46 pm
Did you by any chance find out how he did the gradient effect? I don't know what gradient option he used, let alone what parameters to get the gradient lines effect

Hi Andrew, You and your crew have made a impressive plugin, the new features simply are amazing .. One request .. How you do the sky scene composite with element in the jet scene? I supposse the sky layer is precomposed and animated with motion blur?.

Thanks ..
March 27th, 2013 @ 9:05 am
thks all work perfectly!!!all bug disappeared. thks a lot.
March 27th, 2013 @ 9:54 am
I can't get the world transform to work with Optical Flares (obscure the flare) unless I pre-compose the element layer with the WT output. Does this not work with Optical Flares as a foreground layer? If not that's pretty disappointing :/
    March 27th, 2013 @ 12:40 pm
It's really a limitation of After Effects by not allowing effects to sample other layers with effects applied. The world position pass is not really ideal for this since Lens flares render on top of the geometry, they flare should be separate. As you said a simple solution is to duplicate Element into a pre-comp with a linked camera and use the precomp alpha for the obscuration layer. Another method is sample image expression that doesn't require pre-comping.
    March 28th, 2013 @ 6:14 am
I see, I've used Optical Flares as a sun behind the geometry before and as the camera passes in front of the geometry the "sun" gets obscured. I was hoping this new feature would make that easier. I don't use expressions much more than a wiggle haha, what sample image expression are you referring to? Thanks Andrew!

Harry Frank has a light culling preset over at http://www.graymachine.com/2012/10/element-3d-nulltracker-lightculling/ design to work with Optical Flares and Element, you might give that a shot.

thx for everything, so cool man.

So the updated GPU requirements will mean that the majority of Mac Pro users will not meet the minimums. Not your fault, it's Apple falling way behind on so many things....I have a Radeon 5770 and find it to work OK, as long as you don't push it too hard or try to add in too much ambient occlusion...f'ing mac...
    March 27th, 2013 @ 12:37 pm
We just don't think it is right to show people cool stuff and then have users that are not able to take advantage of the software. If people can accept some limitations, we think that Element 3D has a lot to offer the low-end cards but we just don't want to have unrealistic expectations. And ya... Apple certainly under-powers their systems GPU and it is Very disappointing. Almost as bad as their atrocious drivers; they make good cards even worse by not allowing the manufactures to release their own updated drivers.
    Jeremy Abbott
    March 27th, 2013 @ 1:23 pm
I have the same card in mine and I know exactly what you mean. I don't even bother running OSX anymore I just work on Win 7 in bootcamp. Gets way better results. Personally can not wait to replace my Mac Pro with a brand new PC at third the cost. F'ing Mac indeed.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 3:01 pm
You honesty is much appreciated, Andrew. As I said, it isn't you guys at all. Someone should start a resource for all us old Mac guys that have to switch back to PC. At least all the software is cross platform. I just have no idea which boxes are the most stable. Are you still using the HP-Z series, Mr. Kramer?
    March 27th, 2013 @ 3:11 pm
Ya, I still use the HP, I've upgraded GPU to the 680 and I also work on a high end boxx machine.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 6:21 pm
I hadn't heard of Boxx, thanks. Sexy beast, that machine...
    March 27th, 2013 @ 9:03 pm
Maingear makes some pretty nice machines at good prices. check out the f131..a heckofalot better then the macpro I bought last year, at less than half the price.
    March 28th, 2013 @ 11:47 am
I would suggest building your own pc. It sounds complicated or hard, but it is actually pretty easy, and way less expensive. Not sure how much experience you have with computers and electronics, but it only takes a few hours of reading to understand how a computer is assembled correctly. Way worth it.
    March 29th, 2013 @ 2:25 am
I second Jason: build your own PC. That's the cheapest way to get a high-end computer (or any computer).

It's wayyy less hard than you probably think, even with no real experience in computer building. There's tons of step-by-step video tutorials on the internet, that show you exactly how to proceed with your build. And for which parts to buy, there's tons of fora where you can ask advice.

Then once you have all your parts (and you Operation System software), free up a couple of hours, and at the end of the day you'll have your own monster computer. Go ahead, you can even name it if you like! 8D

Sure, it'll take a little research to get into the subject, but if you have the time, you'll save quite a dime, seriously.
    March 31st, 2013 @ 5:24 am
This is quite an interesting discussion; when I first saw our guru was on HP in a tutorial, or the demon cam behind the scenes vid, I started wondering about all the mac hype, which I bought into. My bg is fiction and graphic novels, so the deep tech side of the industry is a rough grasp at the moment. Art and narrative are my strengths, so thanks for this kind of info as it helps boost my weak spots. Thanks to all, asanteni sana. greetings again from TZ). I'm on 6770, working fine! (just the 2d position null is an issue).
March 27th, 2013 @ 12:31 pm
I would love to see more tutorials where objects are placed on the ground. A lot of work I need to do is adding cars, mail boxes, and random objects to camera tracked footage.

I have a third-party null tracker which works great for this, but also wondering if that will ever be part of a plugin update?
    March 27th, 2013 @ 12:37 pm
Check out the 3D Truck tutorial. Everything is in there!
    RCA Pro
    March 28th, 2013 @ 6:25 am
adrew hi ... first of all congratulations for this great product, in this tutorial clearly explain how to do a track with CS6, but would you make a tutorial or PFTrack cameratracker order to understand how to have a good ground and to define the elemen3d position, eh tried do with the video you put as example 112. Tracking Magic or 132. Alien Surface. It is very difficult and complicated to define element3d in 3D space, keeps tracking imperfections.
It would be great to hear you talk about this issue.

I greet you cordially from Argentina and I hope any response or tutorial of you, good life. -

So then my Nvidia GeForce 9400M/9600M GT isn't even supported anymore.

I hate Apple.
    March 27th, 2013 @ 3:24 pm
It's a free update, give it a try. It's the difference between works and officially supported. But the update does require some extra memory for certain features.

The new features are incredibly helpful; the utility to Generate 3D Null position is my favorite so far. In the future, is there any chance of being able to adjust the UV Repeat/Offset options on individual material slots as opposed to affecting the whole model?
    March 28th, 2013 @ 10:07 am
You can adjust the UV stuff for each material map but not each material. We should probably have that...

I think this would be handy as well..
    Steve Green
    March 30th, 2013 @ 4:50 am
Being able to animate these offsets could be useful as well - depends if using animated custom layer maps has more overhead than just animating the texture co-ordinates?
March 28th, 2013 @ 12:48 pm
Hi Andrew,
Congrats for the update.
Regardless of that, Did you notice as I did that Optical Flares does NOT interact while set to obscuration with an E3D model / Text?
The flare is simply gone as I'm setting the obscured layer (that is the E3D layer). Try to sae any flare to go thru a word's letters and see the problem yourself. Any solution??
    Hector Montalvo
    March 28th, 2013 @ 1:28 pm
You need to duplicate the comp and precomp the second E3D layer. And use that one as the obscured.
March 28th, 2013 @ 12:49 pm
I have a video card Quadro FX 5500. I can install and run well the 3d element?
March 28th, 2013 @ 12:24 pm
I am having a problem when creating a shadow matte. The result seems grainy...when AO is turn on. Is this a bug?
    March 28th, 2013 @ 5:20 pm
Put An Adjustment layer between that shadow matte and your orginal Element layer. That should fix the problem if unusual things happens when you set everything in order :]
I think that should find the way of your problem Pal :)
March 28th, 2013 @ 5:21 pm
Really Amazing once again. In short period after released 1.5 suddenly its just christmass in spring :d haha
March 28th, 2013 @ 8:21 pm
Really digging the update Andrew and VCP team. What a time saver that generate null and WPP are! Well done!

Hi @all
Here is another project done in Adobe After Effects CS6 using VC Element 3D (v1.6).. All sound effects are from the "VC Designer Sound FX" package .. Feel free to comment and let us know what you think about it.. Thanks!

Hey, thanks so much for this update. I'm looking forward to checking out all this awesome goody-goodness. That's right, I said goody-goodness right there.
March 29th, 2013 @ 2:56 am
Hey Mr. Kramer. Thanks for this cool Update. In my maschine runs a GTX260 and its fine. No problems with it :) only as Info.
Okay my Question is follow:
How to use the animated Gradiant in your Tutorial? Its realizing in Photoshop or Illustrator or AE? Its a cool stuff :)
Happy eastern for you and your Family :)

Can anyone recommend a good graphics card for a MacPro for up to/around $500? Thanks, Jay
March 29th, 2013 @ 5:18 am
Awesome just Awesome
March 29th, 2013 @ 9:38 am
Thanks for Video copilot for making such an excellent tool as Element 3D.
I know nothing about 3D and still I can do cool animations, which is nice.

A n00b question:
I'm trying to make a text circle or orbit around a cylinder Universal style. I can't figure out how to do it?
Any tips?
    March 29th, 2013 @ 9:55 am
After writing the post I noticed there is a forum also.
    I'll look from there.
March 29th, 2013 @ 12:01 pm
These were exactly the features I was looking for in the project i'm working on. Thanx!!! Great job again!!
March 29th, 2013 @ 4:17 pm
Hi Andrew!! It's useless to say I was moved by the new upgrade of Element 3D.
While I was playing around with the new features like the "create group null" one, I thought it would be fun to use it with Sure Target.. But I can't get 3d objects to move. Only nulls move in 3d space.. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much! For everything :)

March 29th, 2013 @ 9:57 pm
Just a single and sily question Andrew, please help!! How did you model the 3D terrain model? did you use a 3rd party plugin in 3ds max? It's looks pretty real, it surprises me, thank for your answer, or for anybodies.
March 30th, 2013 @ 8:31 am
Thank God you are genius!!! now i can do my work much easy and faster... Thanx A.K.
March 30th, 2013 @ 10:39 am
A great update. I have loved this plugin since I purchased it way back in August 2012. I have also been using Hitfilm by fxhome. It's also very impressive but I have to say that I always come back to AF + Element3D for tracking.

Real time shadows: are they just a wish or will we see them this year ??

March 30th, 2013 @ 11:59 am
So, how did you get those mountains in there?
Imported from another app, an Element Model or is it a teaser for something far more exciting??
March 30th, 2013 @ 5:07 pm
Any one else experiencing a re-linking error? V1.6 is telling me i can re-link to models i dont have, specifically the Banana, Pumpkin, And Lemon. Wait is Kramer trying to tell me something? Is he trying to insinuate i am a Banana Headed, Pumpkin Faced, Lemon Sucker? Hmmm any help is greatly appreciated before my ego is obliterated :P
    March 30th, 2013 @ 9:27 pm
Contact support and please send us a project file. Thanks!

    Will Do!
March 31st, 2013 @ 12:39 am
This is really great!! Andrew always tries to do new things.. This is the best plugin i have ever seen in my life.. All the credit goes to AK. This is same with Optical Flares and it used in Most of the advertisements in INDIA, and also in BOLLYWOOD..
March 31st, 2013 @ 4:36 am
Hi Andrew, which one of best and handy Cinema 4d or 3ds max??? I waiting your answer, Thanks in advance!!!!!
March 31st, 2013 @ 4:49 am
Is it possible to create a water effect inside element? I'm going to buy it when I get paid just wondered. its for a fake ocean. Also are you going to bring out a Vehicle pack to go with the city pack?
    March 31st, 2013 @ 12:23 pm
you can easily do it in realflow and after the -> cinema 4d (for mesh and sequence exporting) -> Element 3d (for compositing in 3d space)
March 31st, 2013 @ 8:15 am
I have problem with ambient occlusion anything is flickering..What can i do?
    April 3rd, 2013 @ 1:21 pm
Same here. AO often causes wierd banding patterns & flickering, etc., for me. Haven't narrowed down cause yet.
    April 3rd, 2013 @ 3:05 pm
Actually VCP's lighting fast support took care of this for me. By watching the metro pack tutorial, I discovered an important clarification of their AO tips list..

    1) "Turn up adaptive blur", might be better stated as "Turn up adaptive blur, specifically the Z Threshold amount." This setting allowed me to keep AO Intensity quite high w/out banding or flickering.

    2) Change... Output > Show > to 'Ambient Occlusion'" so you can see the effects of your tweaks.

    The "official" VCP AO Tips...

    -Try to increase the distance

-Try to increase the cut-off for advanced

-Use a Wider Lens to avoid these "Perpendicular" Artifacts

    -Turn up adaptive Blur

    -Lower darkness intensity

You may want to also adjust the Multisampling in the Element 3D output settings.

Hey Andrew. I do appreciate the things you are doing. But I have a request.
I beg you, please make a tutorial on how to work on the post production line. I mean, if I were to export a long movie out of After Effects or Adobe Premiere, how would I do it? Thanks...^_^
March 31st, 2013 @ 2:41 pm
This came just in time! Thank you so much for the hard work you and the team have been putting into this plugin.
March 31st, 2013 @ 7:34 pm
i notice that your terrain mesh is badly textured :)
i work in game industries and i have been using world machine for a quite time and it's awesome u can check it out and believe me you can create some gorgeous terrain in no time .
Hope that help you at some point :)
cheers .

Of course, everything is wonderfull and this update is fantastic. Element 3D is one of my best purchases of 2012. But i have a stupid question that is not on Element 3D, but on your Gradient footage.... I saw in your tutorial that you have a Gradient composition inside your Planar_Mapping_Balls composition. And i'm very interested by this Gradient effect. I wonder how you did it... Can you help me, or share just this Gradient composition please ?

Thank you for your help my heroe ! lol

Great new Features!

My Wishes for V 2.0 are:

- A Raytrace Renderer.
- Real Physics Engine/ Colliding 3D Objects.

I really hope that this will be possible at some point ;).

Great job so far, Videcopilot!

- Christoph
    April 2nd, 2013 @ 1:17 pm
1st point - The point is good and it should be the best point
2nd point - It cant be posible. Its just a plugin. A 3d plugin under 2.5D software. Dynamisc cant be part of it. If it calcullate all those stuff there will this thing happen for sure. the plugin will use lots of memory and the fast thing you now getting.. wont get that time. Its not C4D. neither a software. Its jsut a plugin :) Andrew said - colide is not possible in element. cause even 3d softwares itself dont colide particle untill dyynamic specific property will be applied :)
    April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:33 am
Interesting points you raised, BlurryPuzzle VFX,

thinking of it one might not necessarily need a physics engine as you could create an obj sequence with physics in any 3d software and could then import that into Element 3D. Then they only need to make it possible to add motion blur support for obj sequences...
April 1st, 2013 @ 5:35 am
Andrew - Are you going to post the SD version of this 2 part series as well? Sometimes the hi-res doesn't pull up if I want to check it at work. Posting on youtube would be helpful too. I know it's hit and miss on whether they make youtube. Thanks!
April 1st, 2013 @ 6:26 am
I have a quick question about the fighter jet part of the 1.6 update tut vid. you have the land or sea rushing past in the background layer.i don't see any other layer in 3D in the comp, wondered how you did it. Was it done in another comp and pre-comped?

April 1st, 2013 @ 11:15 am
Would you be able to upload the project file used in the demo video, I'd love to have a look at how you set the jet shots up with just a picture as the background

Just had to jump on to say the World Transform Null feature is a huge lifesaver. One click and it's locked in? Awesome.
April 1st, 2013 @ 8:55 pm
Loving Element 3D. V1.6 brought many great and useful features, specially re-linking.

Regarding Element 3D and Sure Target. In a recent project (before 1.6) I used Element with Sure Target. I ended up making each element layers 3D (ignoring the warnings) and using them as my targets. I animated rotations through the world transform of each element layer. As long as I didn't rotate the camera itself, things looked ok.

Andrew is there a more effective way to use Element and Sure Target at this point? Thanks.

PS. Check out the "Tempted" video to see what I'm talking about. http://www.pixelhouse.tv/motiongraphics/

Hi, everyone
this is my test - element 3d.

April 2nd, 2013 @ 2:10 am
Where can I download the mountain terrain model from?
I see you have landscapes in your models folder, but i don't see a landscape option in the products page?
    April 2nd, 2013 @ 2:56 am
I think Andrew will sell new packages soon... I heard about a dvd with planes, cars, helicopters.... So, we can guess that there will be a dvd with lanscapes also. With 3D element everything is possible...
We can imagine a dvd with animals, dinosaurs, humans, planets, or (my dream) spacecraft, satellites...
April 2nd, 2013 @ 4:03 am
Andrew is the best!!!!!! The New 3d object track is soo coool...

Hi, just upgraded and now AE CS6 woun't render with multible processors. I get the popup about ram. I didn't get the error with v1.5 and when I downgraded just minuts ago the problem dispeared. It seems like a great upgrade this 1.6 and especialy the place nulls in 2d space is fantastic! hope you can fix the multi-render soon. thanks for a great product!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 7:09 am
This update is really super cool!
Thank you so much for the time spent on this little diamond.
My only request (i know, shadow and real reflaction will be nice :)) is a scale in x,y and z dimensions separately.
That will be very useful.
Bests from Italy to all of you!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 7:22 am
There seems to be a lot of jumping through hoops just to get two products to work in the same 3d space. Instead of all this world position matte’s and 4or5 different ways to occlude particles, or flares, why not just solve the main problem,...make them work in the same 3D space orientation. Dont take this as a complaint, I"m just asking. I love your products, just this lastest update made me think of this.
    April 3rd, 2013 @ 11:00 am
The real problem is the 2.5D world of AE. It's not a problem with this plug-in,because the genius here at Videocopilot have solved this issue with this new great updates.
If you use Particular or 3D Stroke for example you have to use visibility, duplicate the layer or for Particular you can use the sParticular script.
AE is not made for 3D unfortunately...:(

April 3rd, 2013 @ 3:31 pm
I'm dying to update but afraid.. My last update I installed and altho my 3d element files were there, I had to recreate my entire model bc I couldn't get the new version to recognize my old saved textured model in my element 3d library I had created. Before it all I backed up, installed uninstalled, re-installed, re-registered and nothing. It would hang trying to read the .e3d 's . :( I really really want to try this update but I'm scared out of my mind to do so and loose everything again. The Video demo looks amazing, absolute genius, and I'm at the edge of my seat debating to do it. Anyone else come across this bug? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    April 29th, 2013 @ 11:51 pm
Hi Joseph, what do you mean by save the textured model in your library? What library is this? I would love to know how to save a model in 3d Element library. Can you help me? thank you.
April 3rd, 2013 @ 3:35 pm
Here's what I made with C4D and Element 3d. Thanks Andrew!
April 3rd, 2013 @ 5:43 pm
been playing with Element 1.6 today. Think there is a bug when I try to change the gamma or mess with contrast..etc on any of my skins that I bring in. Keeps crashing. Otherwise I love this release!!!

April 3rd, 2013 @ 6:49 pm
Hi Mr. Andrew Kramer, May I ask Element 3D can work in After Effects CS3, and if it works well for me why I am not working, or is there a place I'm wrong?
April 4th, 2013 @ 5:08 pm
Hi Andrew,
Just wondering... do you think the new Cineware plugin will be an Element3D-killer? I certainly hope not. I love what you guys have done, I'm sure there are too many unique positives to your plugin for it to be outweighed
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:15 pm
I've noticed that your gpu list shows GT645 and GTX 660. I have the 650.. is it not supported, or not recommended specifically? Is there a bug or anything like that?
April 4th, 2013 @ 8:37 pm
am i the only one who thinks non-uniform scaling on element would be a great feature? try creating a reflection of a non-symmetric object. now, with the WPP you can even make it fade out as it goes, looks great, but you have to flip the model in a 3d program which takes time .. you then change the object, you have to flip it again ... not that much fun :)
April 4th, 2013 @ 11:34 pm
why 3d position utility only works square pixel aspect ratio? im try other aspect ratio and not work correctly.

April 5th, 2013 @ 7:15 pm
Sad Mac Face...Love me my Element 3D and use it extensively on my daily news reports at SlateV.com and many other projects. But, alack and alas, V1.6 takes the plug further away from those of us on Mac's, no matter how powerful. I've combed the manufacturer sites for a element-blessed Graphics Card upgrade for my 8-core tower, but any that are Element-blessed are either discontinued or still-to-come items. The current V1.6 of Element crashes my Mac if I try to generate a 3D position Null, and rendering fails frequently now. I know this is Windows-centic software, but there a more than a few of us out here who use Macs and are not about to dump a gajillion dollars in purchases to move over to a platform that may be more popular, but is known to be as virus free as a New Dehli sewer and buggy as a Manhattan tenement. Please, AK, et al, do not forsake us. At least let us know what we can do to optimize a Mac system.
April 6th, 2013 @ 12:52 am
i cant download the update :(
where do i find it at??

WOW! Thank you so much for all the new features (both BIG and SMALL). I'm SUPER stoked about the numbers of the group added to the individual settings so you can see which group you're adjusting in the composition! SO MUCH TIME SAVED!!!

April 18th, 2013 @ 4:38 pm
I am a huge fan of Element 3D and I try to have it used in the VFX Compagny I often work for.
I'm still far from having time to explore all the possibilities of V1.6

Yet I have a Feature Request for V2 : as concerns wireframes renders, it would be great to have more "polygon modes" : "outlined" with a solid/opaque material and wireframes edges (such as Ironman End Titles Sequence)
    April 18th, 2013 @ 4:47 pm
Thanks! Yes we are definitely looking at new wireframe modes and transfer modes as well... could get interesting.
April 29th, 2013 @ 8:46 am
Hi, I have a problem. ELEMENT 3D Ram preview error! I gotta error message like,

'element has encountered an unrecoverable error'

'after effect warning: a frame failed to render while using render multiple frames simultaneously. allocating more memory to the background processes in Memory & Multiprocessing preferences may fix this problem.'

And i must Turn off multiprocessing. This problem does not exist for version 1.5

I dont hava choice ? just turn off? (T^T) My card is GTX560. i already update Graphic driver

Please, I real need help. Looking forward to your reply.

Hey, if anyone's playing around with making null objects on 3D surfaces of moving objects and wants to map a particle system to it, here's a little trick:
Make a null object for the main group, and put all your animation on it. Then when you make a null for a 3D surface, parent that position null to the group null. Now you'll notice the null now moves with the animation, but there's no position information to map a particle system to, because its getting it's animation from the group null its parented to. To solve this problem, click on the element position null and press "a" to open its anchor point. make a new null object and alt-click its position stopwatch to write an expression. Type: "c=" then pickwhip to the element position null layer, and finish the line with a semicolon. On the next line type: "c.toWorld(" then pickwhip to the element position null's anchor point parameter. Close the parentheses and finish the line with a semicolon. Now the element position null has it's own position information that you can now map a particle system to. :) Have fun.

Hello, I want to make a template with MetropĂłlitan module so that allows me to put pictures on the facades of the buildings and you can change these pictures for use on other occasions, there is a way to do it?

Thank you very much for your attention and I apologize for my "googlinglish"
May 27th, 2013 @ 8:47 am
Hey Andrew, you probably wont see this, but could you do a tutorial on the jet shot you did? I really like the lighting and particles and how the ocean was below it. Again, you probably won't, but if you do that would be awesome. Also I think a lot of people would enjoy a vehicle pack :)
May 28th, 2013 @ 5:12 am
Hi Andrew,

Nice work! How you did the backround from the jet :o whats your solution of 3d clouds and the fast backround by a jet fly. I tried to found a video of clouds and put tje jet into it but then i cant do a 3d view :x

Excelente trabajo.
