Free Earth Project for Element 3D

Here is a free Earth project with 4K maps to use with Element 3D. You can also use the maps with CC sphere to recreate the project without Element 3D, we even have a very old tutorial to show you how. Watch the Blue Planet.

To customize the Earth, you can open the Element 3D layer and turn down the illumination map to shut the lights off.

NOTE: Please place the Earth folder inside “My_Models” folder

U can make a lower layer with Element, add a sphere with that stars-texture and rise the scale of it very high. That's all.

You will just have to wait. Videocopilot is working on a vehicles pack, so more stuff will certainly be coming.
    August 17th, 2012 @ 2:53 pm
Michael, sometimes You can be a total idiot. Let some people who don't know how to do anything 3D ask for something, okay? can you just stop insulting us for once?
    August 17th, 2012 @ 4:20 pm
Actually Taylor, Im not being insulting in anyway shape or form. Think about this for a second. People continually ask for project files, models and other things they see on here that has taken someone, not just Andrew, weeks to prepare. Very few seem to want to sit back and think wow thats cool and creative, HOW can I do this?
Few seem to respect the fact that model (weather its a plane, truck or other project) obviously wasnt built in Element, someone has either A purchased it or B spent a multitude of hours building it. Im not being insulting Taylor, being insulting is continuously expecting to be given files and models instead of scratching your head and letting the imagination flow.
    Ljubomir
    August 17th, 2012 @ 4:49 pm
Jovica u can find free 3d models of airplanes , cars ,Helicopters and many more on http://thefree3dmodels.com/ Michael did u ever think that some people spend days making 3d model and that they give for free ? Im giving them for free it is part of my learning process, I create , i give i get feedback and next time i make better models. There is nothing wrong for asking. Video copilot change the way of many people on Jan 06, 2005. Yes this is how long since first tutorial and free project file :)
    August 18th, 2012 @ 8:06 am
    Ljubomir,

Good for you, truly pleased you are one of the few that can find the time to give your time free of charge. My hats off to you. And as you say, our boys have been giving since Jan 2005. 7 yearson this site and many years before that on creative cow. Racked up 131 tutorials, not to mention some of their products have over ten tutorials that come with it and as we already know, they are generous beyond belief with product files and free tools in the way of Sure Target , Reflect and other great work.

All this, and some people still have the can I have can I have can I get can I get syndrome. Many seem to have already thanked the team (read the comments below) for their generosity. Some unfortunately seem to thinks its expected they get FREE and cant humbly except with gratitude what has already been given.

    August 18th, 2012 @ 10:33 am
    OK OK
i think your looking a little to far into this Micheal
i guess i basically agree with you

but they are not demanding or getting angry
they are just exited they are not trying to be rude and im sure they appreciate all the free stuff video copilot is pumping out

    as far as Jovica's question
    its like Micheal said
video copilot is making a models pack giving it away for free would be out of the question

    PS
there are some free plane models out there

    Darren
    August 19th, 2012 @ 5:48 pm
To be honest, I agree with Michael. We see way too many people take, and take, and take, and yet they still ask for more.

We should just remember that VCP don't have to give us anything, yet they do from time to time, because, well, they're awesome. We should be grateful for what they do, and not just ask for another free item, or project.

Heck, I'm surprised we haven't seen people on these boards asking for free versions of Element.
    Eddie
    August 27th, 2012 @ 11:49 pm
Yeeyaa, Co pilot making a vehicles pack. So ganna buy that.
    December 16th, 2012 @ 6:41 pm
Hey Michael, et al, I understand your annoyance, but people that can't do sht for themselves whatsoever are what get VideoCopilot PAID. That's why there's add-on packs for people that can't do it themselves. I can buy just the plug-in and model/texture everything myself, so I can save money by not buying superfluous add-on packs *if* I don't need them. Their need saves you money; It's perfect. Appreciate those whose eager innocence helps to keep VC paid and then be thankful their work doesn't compete with yours because it always just looks exactly like the tutorials. Win win.

Awesome! Thank you very much Andrew! But I got one question, how can I place the lens flare behind the Earth like you show in your video? when I rotate the camera in the project, the flare pass through the planet, not behind it.
    December 21st, 2012 @ 1:25 am
Hey just offset the lens layer behind the element Earth Project. And you should opacity keyframe it or use scripts. And for more contact Us. TRY CLICKING OUR NAME . That will take you to our page.
August 17th, 2012 @ 1:44 pm
That’s awfully Video Copilot of you guys thank you so much. The timing couldn’t be better, I just finished another Element model which I’m putting the finishing touches on as we type. THIS is perfect subject matter and would fit beautifully in the video presentation. But whats the fun in copying or replicating? I’ll steer clear of all things globally in the video now and put something else in it. lol

    August 17th, 2012 @ 2:28 pm
Don't wait for me, start exploring! http://www.videocopilot.net/help/element/
    August 17th, 2012 @ 2:36 pm
Couldn't have put it better myself Mr. K. All you need to learn this thing is a bit of time and pay attention to the tuts you have already sank a few dozen hrs into.
    August 17th, 2012 @ 3:00 pm
My biggest problem is time. I bought the Element and have not had time to see everything.
    Almost Darkslide
    August 17th, 2012 @ 4:10 pm
I don't get it... you're asking for more tutorials, you haven't watched the ones that already are on the site, you wouldn't have time to watch them anyway. Will you find time to read our replies? As Andrew and Christian have already said, we have all we need, unfortunately imagination and time are not included with Element. We should ask Andrew, maybe he could add some in a future package. :-P

Btw, I must admit I'm one of those who check this site at least twice a day to spot a new tut, blog or gift. I'm addicted to videocopilot!

OT. What I like about Andrew's tuts is that he shows us the essence and the potential of a procedure, then we can use it the way we like. I never copy his projects, I make my own using his suggestions. After watching many tutorial (probably every tut on vc) i can mix them, using a bit of this a bit of that.
Thank you Andrew for being such a great teacher. After Effecting with you is one of the thing I like the most!

    Regards

Hi VC Team,

Along with almost everyone else on Earth I want to thank you guys for your awesomeness and generosity.

I also need to ask a question, at the risk of sounding stupid. I can't seem to get the actual Earth Element layer to show in the project. I have tried a number of things to get it working but have so far drawn a blank. Am I alone in this? Does anyone have any sugggestions that don't involve a brain transplant? :)

And to save time: Yes, I have Element. Yes I have extracted the project files. Yes, every other layer is visible in the project. But, try as I might, I just can't see the Earth itself :(

Thanks in advance :)

CS :)

August 18th, 2012 @ 3:38 am
This is just a newbie question that has been buggin me and I really want to understand it. How are the "city lights" effect achieved? If u look at the us on the globe there are all the lights from the city that seem to glow but the rest is dark. How is that achieved? Is that part of the reflection of the map coming from the ambient light? Sorry , newbie question just trying to get it to make sense in my tiny brain. :-)

Thanks a lot for free project file but what's the meaning of " 4K " ?
    julioc
    August 18th, 2012 @ 6:21 am
Hmm, I wonder where you could find out what 4K maps mean? I wonder if there was some sort of device or service that allowed you to search for answers to almost any question you might have. This device or service allows you to post questions on a virtual board also.

Haha, Ok. 4k maps are the size of the file in pixels.

    - a 1k texture has a width of 1024 pixels and a height of 512 pixels

    - a 2k texture is 2048 x 1024 pixels

    - a 4k texture is 4096 x 2048 pixels

    ... And so on.

    Hey.
Finished the album in Jan, at the moment just doing gigs etc till end of this year/early next year - then put the album out.
How long did it take you to make?
I'm still kinda slow on Element - so many options.
    August 19th, 2012 @ 7:33 am
    Alexxander,

The speed will come in time. There are things I'm still slow at getting as I have only been playing with this 2 years. Before that, I had never heard of after Effects lol

This model took about 3 hours to build (not including render times) as it was pretty straight forward, although there were tweaks here and there. I spent the same time on putting the video together. I rendered out about 7 shots which took about 30 minutes a piece to do so that was the time consuming part.

The one I did last week (The War Of The Worlds Tripod) took considerably longer as it was the first time I had tried it.

August 18th, 2012 @ 9:37 pm
GRRRRR, when I opened the project file my computer said: "This project contains references to missing effects. Please install the following effect to restore these references (ELEMENT)"
I was thinking two things: 1 => I know! If you say it again I'll let you fly! 2=> WOW! Even my computer is talking about Element.
Still have to save some money before I can watch this project file :(

I downloaded the Earth, placed it in the models folder and it looks out of whack. The stars appear on top layer, the earth looks like a white blurred object and I see some remnants of the clouds but not really wrapped around the earth. I played with it a bit and couldn't figure it out. Any ideas?

Thanks,

    Andrew,

Well, slight update in playing around. The star layer IS physically on the bottom in the stack and when I disable it, it actually looks great, just no stars. So, seems to be a problem with the stars layer. Maybe that will narrow down the problem. When I turn on stars layer, symptoms described above occur. Thanks,
    Eric

Unbelievable. I turn off the layer for a couple hours, come back, turn it back it on and what do you know? Looks fine.

Are we allowed to use these earth images freely (royalty free) in our own projects or is there copyright on them?
    Eric Kirk
    August 21st, 2012 @ 5:56 pm
You can find moon and earth image maps all over the place. Just reconstruct it yourself so YOU made it and should be good to go - plus, makes ya feel better. :)

    August 23rd, 2012 @ 4:24 pm
    I've already got the Moon.
But if I can know I can use this image without breaking copyright it just saves time down the track.

This is really a nice gift to the gang Andrew and VC.
After playing around a bit using Red Giant's Form and Particular to produce some haze and vapor, it is really awesome what happens with camera moves in this project!

With the city lights it reminded me of the Universal Studios text spinning round the earth, so I thought I'd try to replicate it.

Feature Request: Allow saving the static image from Element as tff or png with alpha, without going through AE. Why? I can make *great* still renders inside Element, and for some reason the lighting and texture quality come out slightly different in AE. I have multi and super sampling set to max. So, a snapshot w/alpha straight from Element would be fantastic.

    August 22nd, 2012 @ 3:42 am
Answer: They aren't related to the rotation of the element object, they're separate layers.

Not being funny, but posts like this make you wonder why people are "buying" a $1000 software package like AE if they can't work out the basics? Maybe the same reason 100's of 10 year old kids can afford it just to make COD vids for youtube?

Awesome. Trying to figure out how to use a sphere in Element3D to create a 360 background that will allow the camera to see a 360 pano when the camera is rotated. Any ideas. Looked around and didn't see anything on the blog related to Element and this. Could have missed it though!

Thanks!

Hi, Andrew. I want to thank you for the great support. I was looking textures and maps for the planet to work on Element. With this material you provided us, I used the file "e3d" and created a project. Inserting a text below with the same texture as used on the planet. With some lights and animation, the result was very interesting, although the little knowledge I have on after. Again thank you and also to all the team Video Copilot.

I’m just going to keep posting this request until I get some kind of response.

Mr. Kramer, I have a request: if you post a video, could you make it available on VideoCopilot’s site as well instead of on Vimeo or YouTube exclusively? For many of us users, these other sites are blocked on our workplace internet, where we access your site much of the time. There have been many of these videos in the last several weeks, and I’m having to miss out on a lot of great material!

Just a humble request/suggestion from a raving loyal fan who would love to see everything you post! :)

Andrew,
Thanks for this. Great stuff. Question... there is a blue haze around the Earth that seems to be in E3d. If I add a meteor or satellite, it too gets the blue haze but I cannot find what is causing it. Can you let us know what that is. It shows up even if I copy and paste the element layer to a blank comp so I know it's in that layer.
Thanks!

@AndrewKramer, I just love element 3D, but I have one question:
I have a model of a tank, it is simply to animate everything except the chain on wheels. It should be spinning around the wheels integrally, but the chains elements spins separately around theirs axis. Could you please explain me how to animate it correctly inside the element 3D if it is possible. (Because I have no idea how to make one element move on another elements position, make them all move on a position of the next on element... I'm not shore have I explained it clear)
Hope you or anybody else understand me, please reply, many thanks.
Max.

I had the idea of doing an animation like this from the get-go, but I didn't wait to see a tutorial from you first, I like to explore. :P

My only real nitpick is the 8k texture limit, I had some really nice 20k texture maps I wish I was able to use.
All-in-all awesome work on the plugin though, Andrew and co. You guys deserve every penny.

add the ability to import animated characters via point oven format in Element 3D. And every script kitty will be able to use lol.
There will be a time that our job will have no value because of this type of drag-and-drop bundled solutions :(
We are on the time of the cheaper the better and we lose lots of work for kids with videohive template's its ridiculous.
Not to mention that this is available in warez sites for anyone for free so yeah great work.

Is this compatible with Mac?

I have Element 3D but not optical flares, is this required? I get two error messages when opening.

1. This project is going to be converted from version 10.0.2 (Windows 64) and will open as an untitled project. The original file will be unchanged.

2. This project contains 1 reference to a missing effect. Please install the following effect to restore this reference. ("Optical Flares")

I'm running AE CS6 on 10.7.4. Upon opening, this is what i get.

Hi there VC team.

Andrew, I've been trying to recreate the similar footage that NASA got with the flyover of the Earth (example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNgHszBqAfo )

I've tried to recreate this scene with the Aurora lighting, but can't quite nail it!

Be great if you could get close to this type of imaging.

@Andrew so I'm looking at your project file to try and learn how you created such a beautiful image and being an owner of element 3d and loving it I noticed something when opening scene set up you have "earth" on group 1 but all your adjustments under "effects & controls" are on group 2 I thought that would only effect whats on group 2?

I changed the HUE to make the sea red. I notice once you use a material, it is available for other models (eg red-sea baseball bat, etc). Is there a way to import a material directly into AE cs4 using a simple JPG as the pattern, and have your home-made materials appear in the material window without having to first duplicate one of your models jpg files?

Hi ! Thank you, but, is there a realistic solution to put the earth forground and the lihgt and flare background ? (do an eclipse ?) When i use the earth as fioreground layer in optical flare, the light diffusion goes bad off. Even with a mate mask layer.
My second question : Is it possible to odo the same with 2 3D elements objects on 2 differents layers ?

Hope somebody undestood...
