Element 3D Demo Reel!

I know we’re a little late with our trailer/promo video for Element 3D but there was so much to do at the end we held on to it so we could add a few more examples. It’s basically collection of shots created with Element 3D to show off the various capabilities. Think of it like a movie trailer that comes out after the movie is released so it doesn’t spoil the surprises!

And yes, all of these examples were rendered inside After Effects using Element 3D and hopefully these ideas will inspire you to discover new capabilities!

Great work Andrew
I loved this reel so much, a lot of work
the scene of buildings and F16 I think, you should make a preview about them
they're so cool :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 3:52 am
WOW!! Tou're the best!! Do you find the internal brain with sinapsys?
August 9th, 2012 @ 3:53 am
Great reel! Wish your presentation was a couple of weeks later as I will be on holliday in LA from Australia! Thanks to VCP for all their hard work!

August 9th, 2012 @ 3:57 am
Woooooow Very nice , Element 3D is most powerful plugin in world , thanks Andrew
August 9th, 2012 @ 3:57 am
Amazing Stuff Andrew! So is the soundtrack. Who does your sound design anyway?
    August 9th, 2012 @ 4:00 am
Bryan here does most of the music and I do the sound design using various source material and recordings.
    August 13th, 2012 @ 12:29 pm
    Such as ?
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:03 am
impresive! And to think that everything has been done on after effects it's just incredible. But I have a question, can we integrate 2 3d elements on the same solid? ;)) Or We Have to create two solid?
    August 9th, 2012 @ 4:05 am
Element has 5 groups for using separate 3D objects on a single layer...
    August 9th, 2012 @ 2:53 pm
    Hi Andrew,
Will you add more Groups in future releases? or a bottom to click to just add as many needed ( of course Max value have to be implemented )
    August 10th, 2012 @ 7:45 am
ah okey, great, thx for your answer :)

Hi Andrew,
Loving Element.
Is there a way to get Optical Flares to obscure with Element?
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:37 am
Great! Element is truly an amazing plug-in that I hope to add to my repertoire!
Zachary O’Connor
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:39 am
Not a question, just want to say that Andrew, you are handsome.
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:40 am
Andrew Kramer has serious problems. Anyone know what planet he came from?
Mario San Emeterio
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:43 am
Awesome demo, Andrew. Last week I bought your plugin, and after a small problems now is working great. I've been using 3Ds MAX and Cinema 4D for some years. And what you have gotten with this plugin is absolutely amazing.
Thank you for your work!
Bryan Cobo

Are more tutorials regarding Element 3D coming up? I dont understand it yet. I need a 0 - 100 Tutorial. And are planing to sell vehicle 3d models soon? I need them :D

Element 3D Water Simulation Test

Render contains:

1. 3D rocks
2. Animated Water Shader
3. Diet Soda

I have 9 hours of rendering this scene in 1080p with DOF on Multi Pass mode (High). No motion blur on, because rendering time will be a MUCH LONGER.
    August 13th, 2012 @ 9:58 pm
Hi Vlad. You might want to upgrade your GPU and probably the rest of your pc... There is no reason that clip should have taken 9 hours of render time. Build one on Newegg.com if you can. What GPU do you have? The reason why I bring this up is that you are not receiving the full benefits of Element 3D mostly being the it's blazing fast to render. :) My machine was about $908.00 and it render a 22 second clip of 4 scenes using 5 groups of high quality models with the works in about 10 minutes including the use of Optical Flares, DoF, Motion Blur, Ambient Occlusion, Fog, etc.

Bottom line is, upgrade your machine if you can. At least your GPU.

    Take Care. :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:04 am
3:43 am, i think you like to work at night, AK, becareful your health. But i can't get to sleep until like 2:00 am.
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:10 am
The Earth Looks epic. How did you do that? I mean the iris and the nightly atmosphere? I have tried to paste some night shoots of the earth into a Sphere as a texture in Element. But i am losing control with the mapping and things do not look good.

btw. your presentation @ siggraph was very cool.

August 9th, 2012 @ 5:19 am
Andrew, I worked out everything I know about Element from your videos. I was going to read the documentation but I heard about the last guy that did that, so decided against it... Amazing work as always.
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:30 am
WOW! I am always amazed by your work Andrew (and team). this demo reel was amazing and you did a fantastic job presenting yesterday at the SIGGRAPH! Woud you ever consider having your own "in house" training? You could become even more rich and famous training all of us that wished we could be more like you (except funnier :) )!
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:32 am
A few amazing things that seem to have gone unnoticed! The kramerican airlines was element? He come you never told us!? WOW! And the grenades and barbed wire on the fringe intro! Awesome! Sneaky, but awesome! How did you manage to conceal that the airplane was rendered in element?
Great, truly amazing :)
    August 9th, 2012 @ 4:33 am
I wanted to tell you! But the product wasn't ready and I didn't want to reveal the texturing capabilities of the plug-in until we got closer to launch.
    August 9th, 2012 @ 4:37 am
ahhhh :) I spose you didn't really need a riot outside your home when everybody got absolutely gobsmacked by the idea... :P Thank for replying man :)
    August 9th, 2012 @ 3:52 pm
Andrew, ok if that is so, then why did You render the airplane in VRAY when you were creating that tutorial? I remember 8 cores :)
P.s. why can't I 'reply to this comment' on vc mobile version
    August 9th, 2012 @ 4:26 pm
I used 3D max so people could create the effect with tools that were currently available. Element was not out yet but if you look at the tutorial and final video, you'll notice there are no shadows on the airplane because I rendered it with Element.
    August 10th, 2012 @ 4:01 am
How was the smoke from the engine created inside element, as it looked very effective?
    Josh Edel
    August 11th, 2012 @ 10:04 pm
He probably used a different plugin for the smoke, like particular or something.
August 9th, 2012 @ 4:32 am
Great work! Element 3D is amazing. I made this test video only to find out that everyone and their mom have produced short little Element 3D videos.
working with real 3D is a dream come true. "A whole new world, a new fantastic point of view."
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:37 am
Really great. I've bought the Studio Bundle yesterday and i can't belive what i see in my AE preview...with my GTX480 hacked for CS6 this plug-in is really super fast.Easy to learn but with infinite possibility.
Thank you so much Videocopilot's team for this amazing tool, ready to rock!
I'm only waiting for real shadows :)
Bests from Italy and sorry for my bad english!
Bests to all,
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:41 am
I've also tested Element by creating a space scene http://sdrv.ms/QlvD3P
It's still really crude and I could add a lot more as well as spent even more work on the animation to make it more beleaveable but it's ok for a first test I think.
I tried to add fire to the exhausts of the spaceship but as soon as the spaceship rotates the nulls I used to drive the position of the particular Emitter were off. I tried different Expressions to link the values but couldn't figure out a way to make it work.

I have to give credit to Chris Kuhn & Greg Zaal for the amazing 3d model (http://sdrv.ms/QlvD3P But I've used the Materials that are included in Element as well as the Pro Shaders to texture the spaceship.
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:41 am
Im saving my money, and will buy soon. The jet fighter scene isthe best!
Josh T.
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:55 am
I love your sound design! I hope you have more sound products in your near future.
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:08 am
Hey u always use good soundtrack what is your references please??? thank
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:39 am
I’m just going to keep posting this request until I get some kind of response.

Mr. Kramer, I have a request: if you post a video, could you make it available on VideoCopilot’s site as well instead of on Vimeo or YouTube exclusively? For many of us users, these other sites are blocked on our workplace internet, where we access your site much of the time. This is the third one in the last couple of weeks, and I’m having to miss out on a lot of great tutorials!

Just a humble request/suggestion from a raving loyal fan who would love to see everything you post! :)
    August 9th, 2012 @ 7:50 am
Shame you cant view it, its a great video. btw your boss is behiiiind yooou lol
    August 9th, 2012 @ 9:33 am
HAHA! not likely, Christian. He's a big guy, he wears heel taps, and he's usually singing. That man couldn't sneak if he wanted to. :)
    John Dillinger
    August 9th, 2012 @ 3:23 pm
Doubt it, that would require him to upload all the videos taking up way to much space... i guess
    August 10th, 2012 @ 1:28 pm
@John D. He's been uploading videos for years, and continues to do so with his tutorials. He should be just fine with a few minute demo reel, specially if it's low rez. At least the rest of us would be able to see it.

And frankly, it's not hard to expand the available space. Especially if it means extending to all us consumers what he actually intends for us to see.
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:40 am
That fighter jet shot was badass...
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:52 am
Ok, you've made your point. Can you stop showing off now? :-)
Maurice Powers
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:54 am
Please...for the love of God....I beg you...do a tutorial where you start from scratch (empty, blank composition) and show how you did the 0:38 effect with the letters exploding into pieces.
    August 9th, 2012 @ 7:05 am
Maurice ,the text is a pre-fractured object (using something like Cinema4D) and then just animated as multiple objects in Element. You can't fracture text within Element itself unfortunately.
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:17 am
After Grenade lunching , we see the scene that Sam getting cover. which part of it is one of the Element 3d features?
Joshua Perlson
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:30 am
Dude, your Fringe titling used Element??? You guys must have been working on this plug-in for like three years now. Sound right? Incredible. Just purchased it, can't wait to dig in.
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:37 am
I can see Element 3D Object tools to where we can pinch, bend, pull, push, polygons as if it was clay in version 5 of Element 3D in 2014. Am I far off with my prediction?
Howard Waddell
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:38 am
How did you do the mountains?
Very cool video!
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:43 am
Andrew. You are our jedi master!
August 9th, 2012 @ 7:46 am
Yes it's really awesome and before this, I didn't touch 3D. It's the release to begin 3D for those who doesn't involve in 3D before that. You can make all that you want in C4D or other 3D programs and import them to fracture them or to make your dreams possible in the virtual world. I love it. And the price is very well dosed.
Thank you Videocopilot.
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:27 am
Hey, Andrew, how did you create the shadows on the mountain..?
Was this posted in a tutorial? It looks like it's rendered with Element.

August 9th, 2012 @ 8:30 am
Just bought the studio bundle a couple minutes ago. Installed and ready to go. This plugin right here is amazing.

Great Job Andrew!!!
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:31 am
Outstanding outstanding outstandiiiiiing !
Can't wait to buy and try it !!
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:32 am
WOW! :D Absolutely AMAZINGLY cool... sooooooo much capability and possibilities, ohhh I want to get Element soo bad! Thanks so much for making this plugin and continually making it better! :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:39 am
I think you should make a tutorial or at least a brief explanation on how you did the mountain shot.

P.S. Can't wait for my paycheck so I can finally buy the plugin
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:45 am
ooohhhhhh..wow.....haaaa....really amazing.....:)
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:46 am
Andrew you are ( KOE ) king of effects...
    August 11th, 2012 @ 3:11 am
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:53 am
Hey Andrew! Can you make F-18 fly-by tutorial please?
August 9th, 2012 @ 8:59 am
Hey Andrew. Amazing stuff. When will we start to see more of the 3d element bundles? I know the jet was talked about, is there a time table? A new pack every six months? I love the models I own right now, but I am always wanting more. Thanks and again, amazing.
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:09 am
I've been holding off on getting too excited about Element, but now I really hope that my university gets a copy.
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:22 am
@ Andrew Kramer
I've been noticing some very nice sound effects on these recently post, I'm tempted to think you might be releasing a SoundFX product when Element3D has conquered to field. LOL
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:23 am
Great! A wonderful plugin! I admire! I will buy this plugin for my work!
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:39 am
love the plug in!!! i am playing around with it every day but i still have some problems with the textures of obj models! none of them is in the right place...??? does anyone know why? is there a trick?
but so far...great work andrew! you are my master!!! ;)
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:43 am
I'd love to see a how-to on the space scenes - had a client approach me wanting to have a spaceship fly to Earth and land in his parking lot.

My response? "Well, it just so happens that I bought some software that could make that happen..."
    August 9th, 2012 @ 11:01 am
Ya, me too, I think that would be a nice tutorial... please :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:45 am
Can you do a tutorial on how to fracture 3d models using C4D and/or Blender like the C++ and Fringe examples? Also, is it possible to bend or wrap a 3d model around an object in Element? Like wrapping text around a sphere?
    December 6th, 2012 @ 8:40 am
Yeah I'd love to see how to do this. I'm trying to wrap text around a shield and can't find a way to do it.
August 9th, 2012 @ 9:46 am
Amazing!! Hard to believe its all After Effects, but i know it is.
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:16 am
I remember when the teaser for the Grenade project came out I was hoping that Element was used on it, and pretty convinced that it was. But once the tutorial came out I was a little bummed it wasn't! Guess I was right all along ;)

What about the grenades hitting the ground? How was that done? Because there seemed to be a little dynamics/physics in that shot.
    August 9th, 2012 @ 10:41 am
Those falling grenades were 3D max since I needed the bounce physics.
    August 9th, 2012 @ 11:53 am
I haven't tried this yet, but it seems to me motion tracking footage with the physics movement you need and linking your object to it would go a long way towards overcoming the lack of physics. Andrew, you could create a library of stock motion tracks. Bounces, rolls, cars falling to the ground etc...save me from having to do it..Then I could go to the beach...
    August 9th, 2012 @ 12:04 pm
...or even have the assignable motion paths built right into the plug-in. With a handful of common ones available as presets and the option to bring in your own tracks, like the custom layers for textures but for motion.
    August 10th, 2012 @ 3:47 am
That's a great idea James, you could easily track a i.e. tennis bal and assign to it. you would lose rotation but you could easily fake that. The problem would be by fracturing objects or complicater motions but for the more basic stuff this would work. Very nice idea!
Jeremy Abbott
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:23 am
So was the entire fringe intro done completely inside After Effects then aside from the 3D modeling? And that mountain shot..truly incredible stuff.
    August 9th, 2012 @ 10:40 am
Yep! The crowd of people was done using Trapcode Particular too.
    Jeremy Abbott
    August 9th, 2012 @ 11:18 am
That's so awesome, I love how legitimately you're making AE a professional tool for any level of production.

I know I keep asking this but can you tell us about other TV/film work you've used Element on? I'm trying to sell my supervisor on why it would be a smart investment at work, real-world indusyry proof would be a big help!
    Jeremy Abbott
    August 9th, 2012 @ 11:21 am
    Industry, even..
    August 9th, 2012 @ 1:34 pm
@Jeremy -- it depends on your needs and if it's applicable for your end product.

But After Effects has been used for YEARS in the film and TV industry, e.g. Chris and Trish Meyer. Although Andrew seems like the only one using it, he's not (probably one of the best, but not the only user).

Check out the work from other well-known names e.g. Chris and Trish Meyer, Stu Maschewitz (sp?), Aaron Raboniwitz (sp? again...), John Dickinson and more. The Adobe website may have several showreels or resource links. You could probably even ask Todd Kopriva directly (he creates documentation and training for Adobe AE).

    Hope that helps.
    Jeremy Abbott
    August 9th, 2012 @ 2:44 pm
@Mike -- sorry, I should've been more specific. I meant specifically that he's making it legitimate for 3D work in the industry. I use AE extensively both at home and work for broadcast productions, I'm just trying to sell my boss on the potential of Element now.
    August 10th, 2012 @ 3:33 am
I also noticed on Fringe the Location shots (the shots with text telling the location composed into the footage) was also made with elements. is this right?
Are you also using it on bigger projects in the future?
Brian Jaynes
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:54 am
Any news on the release of more object packs? Perhaps the one that will include the airplane?
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:57 am
The snow covered mountains look photo realistic. How the hell?
    August 9th, 2012 @ 10:58 am
I know right, extremely nice modeling there!
    August 16th, 2012 @ 9:33 am
actually thst would be texturing not modelling
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:58 am
Amazing. I knew all that had to be done in some clever way you weren't telling us about at the time but didn't really think of Element - sneaky Andrew! The mountain shot was super! I wanted that shot to last longer... :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 10:58 am
So, when will the model pack with the F18 and helo be available?
August 9th, 2012 @ 11:04 am
Thank you AK and the whole VC Team. Just... thank you :)
August 9th, 2012 @ 11:17 am
I knew it, I bloody well knew.. Back when you were making demoncam.. I said things in the posts... You saw them.. Yes YOU! And you never batted an eyelid. I can trust you with my secrets Mr Kramer. Well played
    August 9th, 2012 @ 11:20 am
...people thought I was crazy... Some even laughed.. Babble babble... But.. I knew... I always knew...
August 9th, 2012 @ 11:39 am
when sam drope a grenade...is this grenade with Element 3D ?
August 9th, 2012 @ 11:44 am
A city generator expansion pack would be awesome (well the generator is already build into element..I guess I mean a handful of good lookin', low to medium poly buildings pack?
August 9th, 2012 @ 12:11 pm
Andrew, aircraft (military and civilian), landscape terrain, and cities would be some amazing model packs!! I can't wait.

I recently purchased Element and am blown away with the plugin. Here's my first render (inspired by NASA's Curiosity rover landing on Mars and your Earth render), "The Red Planet": https://vimeo.com/47144989

BTW, the above was rendered on my trusty old MacBook Pro with 4 GB of ram and only 256 MB of VRAM on a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. Element still performed beautifully! Thanks again.
August 9th, 2012 @ 12:21 pm
Amazing demo, everytime I get to see the possibilities i get more excited.
Things I've seen many years ago and wonderd how it was done, now I understand.
It's amazing to be part of this community. Thanks for the dedication you gave us through the years boss.
August 9th, 2012 @ 12:32 pm
Check this out – Element 3d onboard.

August 9th, 2012 @ 1:35 pm
Great job yesterday... will the livecast be archived somewhere? Your tips for prepping scenes in C4D were great.
August 9th, 2012 @ 3:09 pm
Everything is very impressive, but... to be honest... one thing sukcs...the MUSIC!!! and its not only in this demo reel but almost in every video/tutorial... AnNd one other completely different thing. As a graphic designer i think that your product need a logo. Like the other programs, plugins and software. Now, Element 3d is only a name without any recognizable sign, it looks like a name of amateur plugin. It should look more professional like a brand. If you don't understand what i want to tell - sorry, but my english isn't good enough:)
    Christian Michael
    August 9th, 2012 @ 3:30 pm
"Element 3d is only a name without any recognizable sign"
I see your point. however will it sell...will anyone EVER hear about it?????

I think its doing fine as it is
    August 9th, 2012 @ 9:53 pm
Bryan wants you to meet him by the swings after school. Don't forget your nunchucks adrian...you're gonna need 'em...
    August 10th, 2012 @ 2:59 am

    August 10th, 2012 @ 10:04 am
Sorry Bryan but that's my objective opinion...
    August 10th, 2012 @ 10:53 am
Adrian, saying something "sucks" is not objective, you are a moron.
    August 11th, 2012 @ 12:42 pm
John - saying "you are a moiron" is not objective too so you are a moron too!
August 9th, 2012 @ 3:44 pm
Christian Michael, I agree.😃
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:06 pm
Nice, you should have put some text one the bullet and slow down to see it, that would be awesome :D
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:23 pm
How did you get that glassy look at :28?
Is it from settings within Element or was it created in the style of your "Glass Orbs" tutorial?
Sebastian Alvarez
August 9th, 2012 @ 5:33 pm
Andrew, it would be great it you could post tutorials or projects for most of these things, especially the Earth and space station, the green elements that move to show the black spheres, the bubbles that form a square with a teal background, the exploding truck with the wheel flying, and most of all the sequence for Fringe, and while this one may be complicated because of the copyright issues since we wouldn't be able to use it commercially, but we Fringe fans would love to make something similar just for our amusement.
August 9th, 2012 @ 6:03 pm

What export settings do you use with Elements? I just purchased it and played around with some tests. I exported using H264 (have no prior motion graphics experience, so used what I use for live footage projects). So, H264 mp4 files look horrible with Elements. The colors look faded and gradients are choppy. What do you suggest?

Awesome product indeed!!

Quick question though, my edit pc isn't connected to the internet. If I buy this product, is it possible for me to save it on a usb disk and install it from there onto the edit pc or is it a direct install from the internet? Thanks in advance!

Hey Andrew! Really great and varied use of Element 3D!
Please, please tell us about the mountain shot!!! How did you do it?
Is the sky an environment map or did you use trapcode horizon?
What about the mountains structure and texture? Is this just a .Obj out of Max or C4D or is there something special we should know!?? :)))
Please share how this shot was done! It`s epic!

Hi, you are amazing, but i have a question:
Can I use this plug-in wth a nvidia gtx670 and an AMD FX-8150 processor???
August 10th, 2012 @ 9:37 am
Emailed support a few times about some issues i'm having with the plugin but no response :(

Is there a better way to get a hold of you guys?
August 10th, 2012 @ 10:15 am
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this plug-in!!! There are some many things you can do with it plus I'm surprised at how well it works even on an iMac w/ an ATI Radeon HD 4850 w/ 512mb of vram. Highly recommended!

I have a trackball 3 button mouse, how do I zoom in Element? Is it even possible?
    August 10th, 2012 @ 5:12 pm
You can use the + and - on the keyboard, I'm not familiar with that mouse.
    August 10th, 2012 @ 5:23 pm
I use the Kensington pro mouse trackball and I zoom in by using the scroll ring around the ball...not sure how similar yours is to this model
    September 5th, 2012 @ 9:29 am
I cannot get - and + to work, system just pings when I do that and nothing changes. I am using a Wacom tablet and wish, above all else, to be able to zoom in easily with a keyboard shortcut or click/key combination. I tried - and + initially, as that's the AE default zoom I would have expected, but Nada. Help...? Thanks all :)
    March 16th, 2013 @ 4:29 am
If you have a tablet, set your touch strip to 'auto scroll/zoom' and you will be able to zoom.
    August 30th, 2013 @ 11:33 pm
Need to add a modifier key that behaves like cmd+/cmd- in after effects so we can zoom into the preview of the Element model. Middle mouse for some reason isn't working for me.
August 10th, 2012 @ 5:10 pm
Andrew what ever happened to the release of Optical Flares for Nuke?
August 10th, 2012 @ 5:50 pm
Just curious - can you map video to an Element object?
    August 10th, 2012 @ 5:59 pm
Yes, you can use a custom layer imported to AE and it can be used as a texture. Video or still.
    Ed Ferguson
    August 10th, 2012 @ 9:35 pm
I would love to see a demo of that.
    August 10th, 2012 @ 10:26 pm
I didn't see in the tutorial what I think the OP was asking. I saw static textures applied. I think he is asking if you can model perhaps a TV set, and map a video playing on the model's screen while the camera moves around the TV.

Very impressive plugin.just want to know if we have the possibility to invert the normals of a 3d object to see its texture from the inside.it could be very usefull to create a "true" spherical environnment. I know U see what i mean. ;)
    August 11th, 2012 @ 5:24 am
Yes it have a option In Scene setup click on the name of object and down in Model Surface & Mapping there is a option Invert Normals It is amazing how much freedom you have with 3d object in elements
August 11th, 2012 @ 5:42 am

August 12th, 2012 @ 6:35 am
Loving element, I bought the fresh food, and have the .obj and the texture map, but can't get it to show up in C4D? I'm trying to use the pineapple. How do you get the textures on the models? The UV mesh of the Pineapple doesn't match the UV map of the texture
August 12th, 2012 @ 8:27 am
Andrew, could you possibly create a tutorial on animating the propellers on a helicopter? I have been having trouble with my animations as the propeller doesn't stick to where it should when i animate it.

    August 12th, 2012 @ 1:21 pm
Sebatian, I WISH it was all from Element BUT, he does show in the Truck Tutorial, the Truck was created in a 3D program. However this is as close to a 3D programs as programs get.

(Excuse the typo, I meant Sebastian)
    August 15th, 2012 @ 9:12 am
Element is explicitly NOT a 3d modelling program - models need to be created in Blender, 3DSMax, Cinema4D, etc...
    August 24th, 2012 @ 10:39 pm
    no i know that
i meant it was all rendered in element 3d

    August 12th, 2012 @ 10:17 am
Why Wrong Hijazi? if it works for you knock ya'self out. There is NO right or wrong way to do anything. if you get the desired look you wanted in the format you needed, you used the right program.
    August 12th, 2012 @ 10:53 am
I use AE for a lot of my photoshop work...like having access to optical flares (and now element)
    August 12th, 2012 @ 1:25 pm
    Thanks All !
    August 12th, 2012 @ 3:07 pm

Was the first fringe intro made with Element 3D?
Ever since you teased us with the first element 3D video i thought it was done with it.
    August 12th, 2012 @ 9:09 pm
The first one was made in 3D max years ago, the new recent one was created in Element 3D.
August 12th, 2012 @ 12:09 pm
So, I decided to put Element 3D to the Test with layer masks. Read the description of the video for more details. NOW my eyes are more open than they were before.

August 13th, 2012 @ 11:15 am
man, cool animation - you said you are going to post a project file for that earth. When do you release it? dont get me wrong - if you dont its not an issue but i am very pry to see how you did that!
August 13th, 2012 @ 12:18 pm
Some ideas for element, would be good if we can save the model after linking all the model parts and animation inside of the AE comp then some how to be able to save the whole thing in element. Now some models don't require that, but things like helis with rotors and rare blades are pain in the butt to alligne and animate on the correct axis.
August 13th, 2012 @ 12:47 pm
This is interesting. This guy is running a pc nvidia card under osx mountain lion with no hack and ALMOST no problems. Says there are a few issues, but I'm going to keep my eye on his blog...

I bought Element few days ago and after all those tutorials that i watched here, even before i had the tool in hands, i almost felt like i already know to use it! the learning curve is really fast. I did few motion graphics works before and after two days and few renders i was able to do this test!

im really happy with the results, and very curious to see how far can we go with this tool!
August 13th, 2012 @ 7:28 pm
are you lying thats not all made from element 3d -__ FAKER
August 13th, 2012 @ 11:34 pm
hi, andrew:

when i fracture an object in 3dsmax and exmport it, i get the fractured object AND an unfractured original in element. a search of the original file doesn't show an extra unfractured original--nor do i see an ufractured original in the element 3D GUI. it just appears when i scatter. any thoughts? Thanks.
August 14th, 2012 @ 5:56 am
Nice sound design to go with it. I like!
August 14th, 2012 @ 11:26 am
A suggestion: Include the basic Materials in the Pro-Shaders pack. For example, Pro-Shaders does not have chrome metal shader - have to open the basic Materials folder to find it. Or am I missing how to move shaders between folders?
    Almost Darkslide
    August 14th, 2012 @ 12:15 pm
Duplicate material, rename it and save it as preset (right clic) inside the metal folder. Easy and fast.

August 14th, 2012 @ 3:29 pm
Hey guys... I have a 3d model of a car in Element, I want to put a keyed out driver sitting in the car, so the layer is obscured by the 3d models doors, windows, etc... any suggestions how to do this?
    August 14th, 2012 @ 3:45 pm
Is it a model driver or live footage of a driver? if its a model it can be added to another Element group and scaled to fit. If its live footage you will need to keyframe the mask to the camera move of the car obscuring the door etc.
    August 14th, 2012 @ 3:52 pm
It is live footage... is there any way to add a plane to the Element group and add a material to it that is my keyed footage? I tried doing this, but haven't been successful.
    Almost Darkslide
    August 14th, 2012 @ 5:28 pm
Precompose your keyed out driver, choose it inside Element in the Custom layer options, custom texture maps, then go to scene setup, create a new material and choose your comp as diffuse. Assign material to a plane. Should do.
    August 14th, 2012 @ 5:51 pm
Tried that, not giving me alpha channel only.

    August 14th, 2012 @ 6:01 pm
John, Glad I could help a little and you are half way there, although without seeing the project file its hard to help more. We would like to see to finished project when done though :0)

How to scale a 3D Model in Element?
Let me know if I should be asking somewhere else. Hoping a detailed manual gets published.
I import an OBJ model and it fills the window in Element. In AE I have a 1,000px wide composition and I want the model to fill the width completely.
However the model comes across into AE about 300px wide. Element "Normalize Size" is ON. What does that option do? I turn it off and adjust Element Transform Scale to 150%, yet the model looks the same. The only way I found to scale the model is on the AE side under Elements Effects > World Transform > Scale. So, what is the purpose and relationship between the three scale controls mentioned above? Thanks!
    Almost Darkslide
    August 14th, 2012 @ 5:39 pm
Go to the group of the object, particle look, size. Usually is set to 10.
    August 14th, 2012 @ 7:06 pm
Thanks! Gotta remember the terminology, particle = model.
Still would like to know what the purpose/relationship is with the other controls I mentioned :)
    August 14th, 2012 @ 7:19 pm

Element can have 5 groups per AE/Element layer and
each "group" has its own scaling and other adjustments. World Transform changes EVERYTHING in EVERY GROUP in that layer, depending on what you change. So scaling world transform scales all groups. Scaling only in group 1, scales only objects in that group. For more details go here. http://www.videocopilot.net/help/element/
    Almost Darkslide
    August 15th, 2012 @ 8:26 am
I would add that you can exclude a group from the world transform.
August 14th, 2012 @ 5:56 pm
Love the plug in but have a noob questions - how do I put a logo on to one of the objects (like the puck from the sports pack?)
August 14th, 2012 @ 7:20 pm
every one there is a way to cast shadows perfectly in element
a user called Maxweel created it its so simple
it comes in script form but you can make it in AE easily
check it out
an im sure it could even be implemented into element easily

PS as far as i can tell right now it only works in cs6

I'm very new to AE. I got PS CS5 and Premiere Pro in a package with some others including AE. I was hoping to create a slideshow that is a little different and I was wondering if there is any way that an image in jpeg/tiff or even raw can be displayed on any of the objects or even on the side of an extrusion and then animated? Is this possible with Elements? I was hoping to do an array or objects/particles with a different image on each and then rotate the images like a carosel. As each image come to the front it will pass out of the DOF area and in to focus. I'm not looking for a tutorial (yet!) but I just want to know if this is a reasonable project to expect Elements to do.
    August 15th, 2012 @ 7:17 pm

I'm scrolling through the comments and what is truly amazing to me is, aside from the plug-in itself, is the fact that Andrew takes the time to reply to a large amount of what's posted. Then again, since he somehow kept Element a secret throughout "Grenade Throw!" and "Mid-Air Emergency", maybe he has, in his spare time, built a true AI that answers forum posts for him. Be looking for the tutorial. :P

You are in the right place to learn a little more my friend. We all have to start somewhere.

View some of the work people have created recently and see how it flows and maybe you will get some fresh ideas. A lot of members of this site have created some truly spectacular stuff in Element. Check out the work of my youtube friend Burnius who has created this http://youtu.be/EXGUA5WfJV8 unusual way of using Element. he also has a tutorial on how to build something like this from scratch.

Others have used element in real world footage to create real looking billboards.

Keeping plugging away Mackenzie, you will get there.

Doesnt look like this is a demo of Element 3d at all. Why would you post in the wrong place while taking other peoples templates and claiming it as your own. Not Cool and Not Original

In the interest of "posting more thoughtful comments" I have this;
I have been working in 3D since 94' with Alias/Wavefront Power Animator and After Effects. I have seen a lot of plugins come and go, and the introduction of 4 1/2 D, but this is truly a marriage of 3D production and Composting polish and speed. I don't want to jinx it but I think this application is going to help bring the VFX industry out of its economic peril giving artist the tools and SPEED they need to keep up with tight studio deadlines without having to sacrifice every last bit of there time thus freeing us to create new and interesting stories. Ok yea I think its the Luke Skywalker of plugins :)
Thanks to all on team Element 3D, sincerely.
