You ROCK AK! Could you do a pre-order/early bird discount? VFX blogs are gonna go ape when this releases, already - WELL DONE VCP!
Renzo
June 26th, 2012 @ 1:53 am
Congratulations! This must be the biggest release of VCP, looking at the time it took to develope. So, where is the release party? ;)

Two questions; did the release of CS6 with it's new opengl rendering of 3D text and shapes beat you to the punch, or could the features save you a lot of work, have you known in advance?
Second question; will the tutorials finaly be viewable on the ipad (and other tablets)? Since tutorials are the best example of why to use a 'second screen' when your monitor(s) are displaying the program (in my opinion the biggest downside to this site).
    June 26th, 2012 @ 1:59 am
Honestly, we made a GREAT 3D text system in Element, there are things you can do with our system that are not possible anywhere else, even in CS6. However, we didn't build this plug-in to make 3D text, it was a bonus. We thought, "Well we have this 3D render engine, I guess we could add text." I would say it is maybe 5% of the plug-in capability.
    Jonesy

+1 for the support of the videos on iPad. Pretty please! :)

Considering Nick Campbell pricing 200 dollars for that rip off of a "plug-in" transform for cinema4d , anything Andrew Kramer and his team price this plugin at would be awesome, much better guy to support in the long run too!
    June 28th, 2012 @ 6:26 am
    How is it a ripoff?
Ville
June 26th, 2012 @ 1:06 am
Dope ! Can't wait to see it . What Will the pricing be ?

And the release date is in July ^^
    Jordan
    June 26th, 2012 @ 1:08 am
    $149.95 (minus presets if any)
    Byron
    June 26th, 2012 @ 1:21 am
$149.95 would be a steal. Don't get me wrong... I'd be happy to buy it at that price. But I wouldn't be surprised if something this powerful cost more than that. Having said that, Video Copilot sure doesn't seem to be too greedy so I guess that price may be right.
    Jordan
    June 26th, 2012 @ 1:58 am
I believe VCP quoted $149.95 on the original announcement of the product..... Hopefully is still the case....
    June 28th, 2012 @ 12:00 pm
I'm pretty sure he said it would be competitively priced with similar plugins. (ie. Particular which is $399) Although it sounds like this plugin is going to be in a category of it's own!

Lookin forward to it Andrew!
    June 26th, 2012 @ 2:39 am
I'm not sure about that specific card, I will look it up but the plug-in works on an old Nvidia 8800 from about 5 years ago... I'm no sure when that card came out but if it is less than 3-4 years old, you should be good.
    Rutger
    June 26th, 2012 @ 4:20 am
If it works with an old Nvidia 8800 I do not really doubt it will work with a computer bought 3 years ago. Thanks for the quick reply!
    June 27th, 2012 @ 9:58 am
Along this vein, has there been any testing with AE CS6 using Adobe's recommended Nvidia Quadro card? I'm curious if there was a boost in performance using Element.
    June 27th, 2012 @ 10:12 am
You're probably going to have performance issues with a card that old, mostly in the time to render scenes. Sure, you could organize and pre-render comps throughout a project. Adobe has made a lot of changes to make CS6 affordable to just about everyone. If you can, definitely upgrade.

Are the tutorials released before the release date of the plugin or within the release date of the plugin. And are they gonna be included for free so every one can watch them or included with the plugin pack so only the buyers see those tutorials
    June 26th, 2012 @ 2:00 am
Tutorials... we have created an entire online learning section for Element that will feature tutorials and help files, these will be accessible to anyone and we will try to update it often!
June 26th, 2012 @ 2:45 am
I have four questions:
1. Will the E3D support reflections from other layers?
2. Will it support textures that are built-in to the model?
3. Will you be able to composite them into live action shots, with lighting and shadows?
4. Will they be compatible with a CameraTracker or AE CS6 Camera Solver Composition Camera?

Thanks, I've been waiting for a long time for this!
June 26th, 2012 @ 2:48 am

This is fantastic. I'll be buying this as soon as it is released. I might also be interested in the motion design pack depending on the cost. Keep up the great work!
    June 26th, 2012 @ 9:50 am
The plug-in comes with a few models and basic primitives but we created the motion design pack to offer people more creative objects to use right away. Of course you can import objects from any 3D program and even the free Blender program for people not invested in 3D.
Martin
June 26th, 2012 @ 4:25 am
i cant wait !! will it be too hardcore for Pcs?? how long one easy object will be render ??
    Darren
    June 26th, 2012 @ 3:05 pm
"Will it be too hardcore for PCs?" - I would imagine that depends on your PC. If it's severely underpowered and struggling to run Calculator and Windows Explorer at the same time, then yes, it is most likely too hardcore.

All along VCP have said the plugin is fast to render, even on some older systems, so if you have a system that can run AE well, then you shouldn't struggle with this. Just as long as you don't have Calculator open at the same time.
    June 27th, 2012 @ 10:08 am
You might have to do some research. I'm working on a project this summer that uses a lot of 3D objects, particles and effects. With the upgrade of CS6, I realized I needed to get a better video card specifically for this type of work. I currently have a gaming rig, which folks know won't give me the best performance for real-time and overall rendering. Hence, my husband and I are building me another rig, based on information from Adobe's website about optimizing performance, along with other sites that recommend tools for this type of work. I run a Radeon HD 6800, again great for gaming, not so much for AE. I've had problems rendering effect/particle-heavy files with this card--it takes forever. So, we're getting the recommended Nvidia Quadro 4000 (cuz my husband just loves me). It's pricey, but it's a vast improvement and the biggest bang for your buck. The next one is priced way out of range for an old fart like me, but there are other recommended cards that are less. Like I said, so some research. I'm totally a dufus on this stuff, but even I was able to learn quite a bit from Adobe's site and just Googling around.

    Best of luck, friend.
    Darren
    June 27th, 2012 @ 6:47 pm
@rm brand - To be honest, you're probably better off saving your money and going for a good Geforce card over the Quadro 4000. Remember, AE isn't 3ds Max, or any other full featured 3D program. Rather AE benefits from a lot of RAM and a good CPU. When I say a lot of RAM, I don't mean 12GBs or anything, I mean "a lot of RAM". Currently I have an I7 quad-core with Hyperthreading (effectively giving me 8 threads), which means that my 32GBs are just enough to run AE pretty well, but more would be better. Adobe recommends reserving a lot of RAM for the OS and other background processes (the more RAM you have, the more you should reserve - see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/734343 for the post. It's quite an interesting read).

In all honesty, increase your RAM. If possible, throw in a better processor, and I'd also recommend something like the new Kepler class Geforce GTX 670 over the Quadro 4000. Initially CS6 didn't support the Kepler cards, but thank goodness for updates, right? :-P

Anyway, the card has the same amount of memory (2GB) vastly more CUDA cores (1334 vs 256 - which is very helpful if you use Premiere Pro - you'll need to hack it, but seriously, running a batch file isn't particularly difficult), much newer tech (the card only released a couple of months back) and costs a heck of a lot less (around $700 here in New Zealand, vs the Quadro 4000's $1300 price tag).

Yes, Adobe recommend the Quadro, but the performance benefits from the 4000 in AE just aren't there when you compare it to a cheaper good quality Geforce.
The real smithy

Hey Andrew, have you decided which movie star you'll be building your mansion next to when this plu in is released? Lol. I think all the pain and suffering that has gone into this will be paid back to you in fields of glory. In more ways than one. Congrats on new plug in , looks beautiful already

June 26th, 2012 @ 5:06 am
Bravo Andrew! VC, in my opinion, has been a leader in producing quality visual products, regardless of company size; and this release pushes the envelope beyond expectations I ever had.
Are you thinking about a bundle price for the plug-in and the Motion Design Pack?
Alan
June 26th, 2012 @ 5:09 am
Will download be an option or will it be disk purchases only?

Also, the hint in the image of a seperate 'shapes and elements' disk of objects is a nice touch.

Is it Support 3Ds max (max)files?
    Steve Green
    June 26th, 2012 @ 6:35 am
I doubt it, Andrew states obj and c4d only, native max files are hardly ever supported outside of max itself.
    June 26th, 2012 @ 9:51 am
Max has an excellent OBJ exporter and we take full advantage of normals and polygons.

Incredible Andrew! Do you think that you will make a short promo video that shows off a few capabilities of what all this can do. That would help me pitch it to my boss if we were to buy this for our company. Without visuals he may not understand why this tool will be useful :/

I'm sure this would help a number of people if you had a short video to help sell it.

Hey, In facct very impressive , and will the plugin be able to import high-poly OBJ? because I'm trying to do for month a 100 (rotors animated) helicopters squadron with Vue (I'll try in 3DS) , do you think it's possible with the plugin?
June 26th, 2012 @ 9:56 am

June 26th, 2012 @ 10:04 am
Yay, Well done Andrew this is an essential purchase for me :)

Talking of essentials, I just happened to have spent some of the day doing a project that involved a load of Action Essentials II stuff.

I hope I'll find Element as useful as I do Action Essentials.

Hey Andrew,

Does the render engine take advantage of Cuda rendering? For example like the Nvidia Maximus setup. Also will this possibly include a Baked Key Animation/Simulations option from the .obj when imported? So you can bring in Full 3d Dynamic baked down animation then run it in Element 3D?

No Matter what, this looks Fantastic!

June 26th, 2012 @ 8:46 pm
For those of you asking about price, it was mentioned at an event he went to a month and a half ago that it would be $150. I'm sure that the 3D models package cost additional. Hopefully it cost around the same as the Pro Presets for Optical Flares.

I am stoked about this plugin.

Hello! I'm Latin and not English! I am using a translator to express these words! I learned to use After effects with you, watching your tutorials ... following the cursor. trying to understand the concept from the optical time ago ... use the demo plugins Mettle_ "ShapeShifter" ... the delusion was complete ... I devour the resources of the PC and only for use in text extrusion ... had come to the conclusion that after effects was not designed for 3D integration ... but you are here to launch a new 3D plug-ins to market! I'll be dreaming ... I am in another dimensions!! They are the world's largest GUYS! Keep it up .... I have only one question .... this product is sent to Latin America or Uruguay will only be downloading online?

Real 3d particles! Does it means that now will be possible insert keyed plate or layers inside particle system?
Dylan
June 27th, 2012 @ 12:41 am
MY LIFE I COMPLETE!!!!!!! Or at least it will be on July 10th!
One question though, do we have to have a 3D program to make the particles or will it come with some preset particles that we can use?
    Steve Green
    June 27th, 2012 @ 1:17 am
There is a pic on Andrew's twitter feed which shows a bunch of preset models, grenades/shell casings/missiles etc.

I'm guessing it will be like Optical Flares, in that there is content with it, and according to this news item extra presets will be sold.

Hi Andrew, in the last year I moved to NukeX because I felt AE doesn't give me enough tools for complex 3D & VFX integration, does Elements will release for Nuke in the future?
In NukeX 6.3.1 they release their own particle system that can read OBJ, FBX, etc. does Elements does it better?

Thank you & Good luck

this have the potential to be a truly industry changing plugin. if it will support obj seq. it will be THE tool for Ae. I wonder if there are some Physics included, since there are particles anyway, so a simple bounce/deflect/spawn on coll. are in order...from the ui i can see u can choose texturing so the next thing in mind is it will keep uvwmaping data from obj. goooooood bye silly 20 hours renders in max for 3 seconds of footage. I'm so gonna buy this, 10x AK.

Andrew,

I have purchased nearly all of your products, and I always receive compliments and comments on the quality and content of what I make. I very much appreciate the amount of time and effort you both put into your free tutorials and the absolute professional avenue you have presented me with to be able to exploit this, and other, types of media. It seems likes magic at first (kind of like when you first get an Ipod), but after a few weeks you help all of us understand that with attention to detail, patience, and a lot of coffee we all can make little realities of our own. My video and motion graphics productions have taken me farther than I could have fathomed starting out with a laptop, a cheap (99$) digital vid camera, and my friends who started to hate the phrase "man...can you do that again?"

But, even with all that I most of all appreciate the clever and well placed levity you include in your tutorials and product descriptions. This latest link to Mr...I mean Dr. evil's ransom demand is hysterical, and it almost makes me forgive Mike Myers for "The GURU"...almost ;)

Thank You Very Much for doing what you do, and I wish you all the best thoughts with your career. I hope JJ hands the reigns off to you for Star Trek 2.

I hope this might be the greatest product VCP has ever released. In-fact the promo poster gave lots of idea how it is gonna be. depth of field, 3d render, inbuilt graphics renderer, extrude and that glowing object in the promo poster giving away the light. It is really 3D. Is there anything You did not include in this product?

Will this also require a CUDA compaible card to work? One of the biggest letdowns in CS6, the rendering engine requires a CUDA compatible (nVida) card which I do not have, and have no budget to get anytime soon)...
Joe
June 28th, 2012 @ 1:19 pm
I'm curious if this will require a CUDA compatible graphics card to make use of it?
    June 28th, 2012 @ 6:26 pm
They say they have made a new OpenGL renderer...by the sounds of that, it should work fine on both ATI & NVidia cards.
    dmpd
    June 28th, 2012 @ 6:31 pm
no its not gonna require CUDA. As i watched his promo 11 month ago He explained that even 2 years old Video card vil be capable of handling this plug in.

Hoping it uses ATI cards also...cuda only software is beginning to be a right PITA !

Could we have confirmation on this MR Kramer please?

Work you have done is amazing. Its gonna be one of most needed plug-ins on the market. And greatest thing is the speed it can be modified-Realtime.

Looks brillliant. Ive just upgraded to cs6, very disapointed with lack ATI card support for the new features like ray tracing.

Hopefully your 3d engine is more card friendly ;)

I have been trying to shove 100$ bills into my monitor every time I end up on this page since last September. Then I started throwing the money at the screen thinking I wasnt trying hard enough.

Hope its under $500. Im going to guess $349.98

You guys deserve to charge $1000 a copy how much time you have given out of your MARRIED with CHILDREN life to teach the people that can take your job. YOU TEACH YOUR COMPETITION FOR FREE!!!!! And then 90% of them complain when you arent donating your time once a week. I say the less we see Andrew the better because that means hes making money or making the old lady happy. Congrats dude, im sure 10 years ago you would have never saw this coming.....oh and thanks for stealing Alexander Alexandrov.

Nice, can't w8 to check it out, I also have some questions
1: Does Element support multiple frame? So we can import our animations sequences into the After Effects.
2: Does Element have render passes such as reflection pass, ambient occ pass, diffuse, etc ?
Regards.

Hey Andrew, I was just wondering, I'm working with my Dad this summer and I should have around $300-$400 by the time this comes out, plus I SERIOUSLY need it for one of my upcoming videos (I'm hopeless with 3DS Max). Is my budget near the price this is being released for?

July 2nd, 2012 @ 5:14 am
Andrew Kramer is well-known in the AE plugins community I beleive..
So its really big news when he would release a new plugin , and this time its not any plugin .. its ELEMENTS 3D, I didnt try it yet but I think this is a new leap for AE in general because it seems like this plugin wont let us to buy another 3D software (that's what i guess)
I am more than excited to have my own copy of elements 3D ..
n thx a lot Andrew .. u r the best when its about AE
my warmth greetings to u from the origin of Arabia - Yemen :)

Hey Andrew,

Can we import animated objects? I use realflow fluids simulated animation though they are inform of bin files between Realflow and maya. Looks like Element3d will only support objs at this point. Are you thinking of adding fbx format to include animation.

Thanks,
Hari

Hey Andrew,
I've a question:
Is there a way in "Element 3d" to import 3dsmax files?
Thank you!
Elias
Shalom
July 8th, 2012 @ 5:13 am
Yes, I too would also like to know if 3dmax files (as well as fbx) can be imported as well, and if their would are any extended features for "Elements 3d" in relation to c4d, can you for example bake an animated scene in c4d and import it and things like that?
thank you

Does anyone knows how to use a simple shape (png) or vector shape into the element 3D? I've tried to add it into the Custome layers or Custom Textures then extrude it, but the result is zero.
