New Plug-in and LA Presentation

June 6th, 2011

If you are going to be in LA on Tuesday June 21st, I'll be doing a presentation at the DMALA user group and you should come check it out! We are going to be taking a look a couple of upcoming plug-ins including Optical Flares for Nuke and our all new tool for After Effects that you may have heard by it's codename : Atom.

It's a new plug-in, and it does some cool stuff.

Of course, I'll follow it up on the website with some feature demos and a release date.

Hi Andrew,

will it be possible, in Nuke, to 'attach' Optical Flares to some light in 3D space? Or to some other geometry? Or only using the Reconcile3D?

If Optical Flares for Nuke is done as an OpenFX plugin then theoretically it should work in Fusion too. (hopefully)

there aren't so many good ones. on creative cow are 4 new ones I think. maybe go to fxphd.com (but you have to pay for it, but it is worth every cent

). there are some good written tutorials in the manuel which comes with nuke. and a book about nuke was just released. maybe it will help you

You should consider video taping your presentations for those of us outside of state / country. I live in Canada and can't afford to come to California to see you, but I would absolutely love to tune into one of your presentations, or even if you have spare time (which I doubt you do), do a live feed presentation with a chat for those of us watching. Just a dream more or less, but I wouldn't complain if I came on videocopilot and notice the most recent post is your presentation video link

Optical flare in Nuke ? dAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that's great ! no seriousely that's just great !
Nuke is way much better for Compositing for 3D movies and movies at all , i guess from my own expirience AE is way stronger then nuke in motion graphics .

anyway i'm looking forward for the release ^^

It is quite modestly said about you in the announcement that you will come to conduct this presentation, Andrew! They should have let me write about you! And I have no doubt that the hall in which the presentation will be held would be crowded with people.
But I am sure that so many people will come anyway because it is Andrew Kramer acting now. And also you have such a powerful production gear on the website. People need it!

OF for Nuke is sooo extraordinary! I was waiting so hard on this moment since you ancounced OF for Nuke once.

We are working with Nuke on our projects and Of was always the only reason to go back to AE. That was sometimes really time-consuming.

Will there be a free update or do we have to buy a complete new version of OF?

wow,.. at last,.. Nuke will have an advance flare tool...
i wish there will also be for Fusion...

I've been using Nuke, NukeX, Fusion, and AE for two years...
the three actually have there own ways of uniqueness...
but I use them in different ways,..

Nuke and NukeX - footages that require some stabilization and intergration with 3D meshes such us those with the Transformers movie.

Fusion for graphics and title entries that require quite of an epic ambiance...

AE for advance graphics designing...

I wish video copilot can create tools for all of the three compositing softwares...

I love them all... ^_^

That are softwares for editing in cut. they aren't used for effect stuff like that. i guess they wouldnt even be able to handle stuff like that.

why is everyone switching to nuke? because it's better for compositing. if you're the motion graphics guy, stay with ae. if you're into film compositing, nuke's the way. native 32-bit color depth, native open-exr workflow, native full 3d environment (where you can also load 3d models) plus ability to relight and render with default scanline or pixar renderman, extremly powerful on projection mapping and uv layouts, way better on organizing big scripts, fast, industry standard, very customizable, deep compositing support coming soon, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. It's a dumb question, why are poeple switching to nuke. You're not switching, you're adding. For motion graphics it's AE all the way, for compositing NUKE. It's like you'd ask why are people learning 3dsmax or maya or houdini when they know AE - it's something quite different.

Still no Optical Flares for Apple Motion

Im begining to think its impossible to make a good plugin for that. And why is everyone switching over to Nuke? Also, i wish i didnt live on the other side of the world or i would be going to your presentation!

Well no one uses Motion for serious work, that's why. It's not really worth it. People are switching to Nuke because node based compositing is more powerful than layers (no messing around with precomps and the like), and Nuke is the most powerful of them (Shake is discontinued, Fusion is a bit amateur etc.)
