Under Cover

Good news everyone! Things have been a little quiet around here because I was given an amazing opportunity to work with J.J. Abrams and Co. on the main title for an a new NBC show called UnderCovers. In collaboration with Stephen Reedy, who created the concept and Jennifer Horvath as editor, I used 3Ds Max to create the CG elements and composited everything in After Effects for the main title. In fact, I even used AE CS5 for the first time from start to finish.

Unfortunately, I can't post the intro yet but please check it out when it airs Sept 22, at 8pm on NBC. But, hopefully I can talk about it more after it airs, we'll see.

It was a lot of fun, plenty of late nights and hard work. I even had a chance to work on several VFX shots for the pilot with my friend Brandon Fayette. I sometimes try to take a minute to appreciate how cool it is to have an opportunity to work on the things you love . You never know, one day you could be making crummy tutorials for a living.. oh wait! :)

Andrew im not sure if you will even read this but I want it to be known. I have been following your creative mind for about a year and a half now. From the start i was completely lost using after effects and then i started watching your tutorials, now iv seen tutorials on youtube before???some helped some made me want to off myself in the bathroom??? but you however have dedicated your time to something worth doing???the passion you share for making something amazing and easy to understand (along with comic relief) has made working with after effects a breeze???i now work for many corporate companies and also just got a few commercials into the local movie theaters thanks to you're amazing skill and very helpful tutorials???( and no i didn't use any of your templates to get where i am) iv evolved over the past years to become some what of an artist in this area???and i have no one but you to thank???so Andrew Kramer??? I wached Undercover and saw the title that really is your style. I guess I would have think of you even if I didn't know you worked on it. Niceeeeee!

Did you also work on the explosion is the Russian warehouse (or factory), the one made because of a RPG. It look to me like the explosion of the meteor crash tutorial (3D particles) ?

Andrew, after taking a closer look a the movie title, I realized a flaw...where is Sam Loya? Sam has stood by your side on your rise to fame and fortune and what do you do when you get to the threshold of success... you day "Hey gotta go Sam!" I think in the next movie title you need to tell JJ that Sam has to be an integral part of the scene or you're out!!! -- Or maybe not...

Of course I know DJTV doesn't even compare at all! In fact, in my personal opinion Video Copilot is "THE" most important AE site in the hole internet! The tutorials are meant to teach tecniques and not just effects. I just helped shadowloader getting to want he wanted (wich is the tecnique not the result in specific). The Human Target intro (the watercolor version, not the digijuice one) would be one of my wishes if the "shadowloader" wants to share it with us (in a forum for example).
Have you noticed guys how good is a "Bazooka" projectil well done. I suspect (also because of the presence of the Optical Flares) this was also AK shot.

Nice work on the Movie Title. I do have one question...when you're asked to do something like this, do you get to be as creative as you wish or do you have an Art Director who provides ideas of what you'll be allowed to do? Also, who gives the final OK once you're done?

cool. I also am fortunate to do what I love for a living, and the tutorials on this website has helped me realize that dream.

I look forward to this show, although from my perspective, they could have selected more established actors to give the show a better chance. Yet they went with lesser known 'safe' ambiguous look for crossover appeal...shame. Besides, Boris Kodjoe is hot but not an established nor great actor. His wife (in real life) is a great actress.

However, good for Andrew on the motion graphics element.
