Andrew would you (I know I would) put this proudct that you've spent so much time into, equivalent to knoll light factory? Because from looking at these features you have, some that even knoll light factory does not have, which gives this the looks of a very pofessional product.

"And I love Optical flares info page its very easy to undrstand and ausome."
January 25th, 2010 @ 11:01 am
BTW, your download section can take a few minutes to update with your recent purchase. Thanks.

The installation for the MAC is the same and the path is in the instructions PDF.

Hi AK,
This plugin works like a charm! It's awesome, to say the least. Never knew i needed lensflares this badly....:p
Anyway, i've tried to log into the prenet (like skynet, but more robots) but it keeps telling me i've an incorrect password... weird, because it's the password i got from VC. Well, as you just posted it's probably very hectic over there, so good luck, and i hope i'll be able to share some flares with the community soon!

greets from the netherlands

Will this work with CS3?
January 25th, 2010 @ 12:37 pm
If you wouldn't make such awesome plug-ins and products, this wouldn't be a problem.

Don't worry, you won't upset any of the people that truly appreciate your work. The wait for Sure Target 2.0 alone was grueling but well worth it.

Finish my first test with the new plug-in.

Overview of the Product:
1. Preview is very responsive
2. Fast Render
3. So many ways of changing and customizing the flares according to your needs.
4. So far no problems

The extra Pr-Presets are worth the money, they look amazing.

I will post my first test online for comments.

Does Optical Flares use the same way of registering as Twitch (with a key file)?
January 25th, 2010 @ 1:29 pm
Sorry bro ! (other Daniel) ... I got a twitter from the web at 11:20 this morning, and I rush to my computer with my credit card in hand. :P

I was waiting since last night (I check at 12 my time and 2 am PST).

We where working on a film here, and last year we rented Anamorphic lenses from Paramount and set up all kind of light artifacts on the shot, just to get the different lens flare look (vertical) for the one scene I am working on.

Now with this, it is going to save so much time and money.

Once I finish I will post the link in my Vimeo site so you can see the real Anamorphic lens flares and the Kramer Version of the same,... maybe I will mix both... we'll see.

Nobody will know the difference.... only me...muhahahahahah
January 25th, 2010 @ 1:42 pm
Yay, it works just as the videos show it working

Fast, infinitely customisable, it really does put the other lens flare packages that cost three times as much to shame.

A very impressive product that will save so much time.
January 25th, 2010 @ 1:48 pm
Still waiting but I have a ? in the meantime. Will it be a link sent to my email or is there a download section in the site somewhere that I can directly access? Thanks again, the wait has made me even more hyped for this, the project im finishing is going to be the shiznit!
January 25th, 2010 @ 1:50 pm
This plug-in looks amazing! I watched all the demo videos and I am just blown away. Thank you for sharing this great tool with us.

That goes for everybody on your staff.

Picked this up as soon as the website updated. Got it instantly. Had a few issues getting into PreNet and whatnot, but your Customer Service was remarkable.

Andrew, your company, your team and your desire to share your expertise with the world is outstanding. Good work.
January 25th, 2010 @ 3:26 pm
Got that worked out. Thanks Andrew.
January 25th, 2010 @ 3:28 pm
I bought the Optical Flares Bundle and have gone through all tutorials and through all presets and pro presets trying to get the total feel of this plugin and I feel fortunate to be one of the first to spread the revolution of flares. I'm excited and inspired!

I would like to make my own textures to use and share on prenet. I just made a preset called "Aliens Took My Poken" and uploaded it for all of you to see and use in whatever you're making. Sharing is good, Andrew taught us that !

Q1: Could you tell us how you went about making these textures?
Q2: Is there going to be a way we can share our own made textures through prenet?

Looks to me they were made on a black background high resolution photography

Looks amazing as always andrew!!

I would buy it but sadly I recently picked up another lens flares package before I heard of optical flares :( oh well, I'll just spend that money on another one of you awesome products!

btw, I was watching a music video and I noticed something that I thought looked familiar, VCP’s own Evolution! haha, just thought you’d like to see how far your work has spread, to the gangsta rap scene!

very cool guys! totally worth the money! Thank you very much!
January 25th, 2010 @ 4:17 pm
Here is the way the licensing works with Video Copilot stuff... When you buy a product you can install it on your main workstation and one other system like a laptop (or home PC). We understand people go back and forth so that is our policy. If you need additional licenses or network licenses, we also have special pricing available.

Best!
January 25th, 2010 @ 4:33 pm
Im having trouble getting luminance tracking to work. I even followed the tut and i still get this wierd error. Instead of tracking each particle point it just shows 3 flares, but none of them move. I created the particle system in particular and precomposed it with a solid layer on top of it with optical flares applied to it, switched to luminance and selected the correct source layer, anyone else have this problem?
January 25th, 2010 @ 4:35 pm
Luminance tracking works best with hard particles that do not have a lot of feathering. There are a few settings for threshold as well. If you want to send me an email off the blog, I'll take a look. Best, AK

Where can I find it? (Farm-Rendering!)

Thanks in advance VCP-Team!

My, aren't we an impatient group?

Like all the rest, I put in my order as soon as I could, and I am super-excited to start using this amazing plug-in, whenever the download link arrives.

This is a major industry roll-out. No doubt the VCP team is slammed today.

Do your best guys, you've got some loyal customers who know how to be patient.
January 25th, 2010 @ 5:08 pm
I'm just as eager to get the plug-in in the hands of everyone so please if you don't receive the download info with 15-20 minutes send us an email. Best.
January 25th, 2010 @ 5:29 pm
Hi folks!
This is the best plugin since Advantedge or Paticular. Buy it, the value is much higher than it's price. And the support is great! I had a little problem caused by Windows 7 ulitimate. And imagine, on the release day I got an answer with a solution for this problem within 5 minutes!!! Thanks to Andrew, Sérgio and all the other members of the Video Copilot team. I will promot this plugin in in Germany as hard as I can. Because it is simple GREAT!!!

Don't take this wrong , but wrong but how is this MORE different then Sapphire's lens flare plugin .. I know its a lil bit advanced but what I'm saying its that I can get almost as real flare effect with that plugin too ...
Diego G.
January 25th, 2010 @ 6:11 pm
@Swp:
I don't know Sapphire’s lens flare plugin and I've never used it but I can tell you for sure that Optical Flares is a good product, and it doesn't matter if they're similar or not, you said it by yourself: OF is more advanced, if it's more advanced, it's better, and even a lot better for people who does not have Sapphire’s lens flare plugin...
james reid
January 25th, 2010 @ 6:55 pm
@swp, with the saphire plugins you are only able to do 2d flare (x,y) where as this is a 3d. It also allows you to custom create your own lensflares and share them with the rest of the community. Dont get me wrong i will still probably use saphire's from time to time but this blows it out of the water.

Andrew and co. thank you very much for this and i also like it when you do tutorials on products cause you can go crazy. Keep up the good work.

If you havnt already bought this GET IT NOW!!!

I've used Sapphire since AVX1 on Avid, I have it on my FCP suite and AE, it sounds like you either don't know sapphire very well or haven't had a close enough look at Krammer's flares....

BTW happy Australia day to all the aussies OS

January 25th, 2010 @ 7:59 pm
Hi Andrew and everyone at VC...good job, got it today and starting working with it. Think I might have found a bit of a glitch with it regarding luminance tracking but I will work with it some more to confirm what I am seeing as a problem and not just my own workflow issue. It also seems that AE's preview does not necessarily update until pre-rendering with Optical Flares (when pre-comped particles are used as a luminance track). Again, not sure if this is a glitch, my error or just the way things are...

All the best,
James

Swp: "how is this MORE different then Sapphire’s lens flare plugin ..I know its a lil bit advanced but what I’m saying its that I can get almost as real flare effect with that plugin too …"

1.This is SAPPHIRE plug-in: http://www.genarts.com/
2.this is SAPPHIRE plug-in price on your wallet $1699
3.Any questions ?

So if it's the same as sapphire, then OF is the better buy at 140 bucks.

but if you already have Sapphire installed then OF is not for you.

Hi all

I've been working on a project since before Christmas and when i heard about Video Copilot Optical Flares I held out on finishing it. I bought Optical Flares yesterday.

Basically the project involves a flight around the solar system. I used the Blue Planet in 3d tut to allow me to move around the solar system in a mock 3d space. Obviously, Optical Flares is gonna look awesome on it. Infact it already looks great - i've been playing around with it all morning.

I have run into a problem though. I just can't get the obscuration layer to work with the expression Andrew taught in the tutorial.

To refresh your memories the expression is this:

lookAt(thisComp.activeCamera.position,position)[0] - applied to x rotation properties on the cc sphere rotation.
lookAt(thisComp.activeCamera.position,position)[1] - applied to y rotation properties on the cc sphere rotation.
lookAt(thisComp.activeCamera.position,position)[2] - applied to z rotation properties on the cc sphere rotation.

You then set the comps transform setting to Auto-Orient towards camera.

Has anyone got any ideas for either a work-a-round or (preferably) a nifty expression to make it work again. I have watched the tutorial Obscure the Light that comes with the plugin but that builds the planet in a slightly different way and i'm not sure that works with the 3d camera

please help

Hi,

Just wanted to say I'm in the UK. Have had a project that I filmed in December, with Optical Flares in mind, on standby, waiting for the release date.

About 10pm UK time last night I purchased the product. Waited a couple of hours for download email but it never came so emailed support and within an hour of that email I was downloading OF.

I installed the windows version on a 64bit machine with no probs.

I spent about 4 hours last night playing around with OF presets etc. Initial thoughts are that this will be very popular.

It's much cheaper than Knoll and Saphire. You can create some great effects with multiple flares/styles and for music videos/advertising etc I'd say expect to see OF all over your TV's for at least the next year or so.

I'll post what I have come up with, probably in a few days, or when the band give the OK but yeah, very cool easy to use product and support was very quick.

Good stuff!

Purchased the pro bundle late last night(California time), got the download link email in about one minute - followed the install/license instructions - whole process very smooth. Been playing in OF all day - it's even easier, more intuitive than it looked in the demos. Can't thank you and the VCP team enough for such a superb product, Andrew. Bet it's great to know that all these happy After Effecters across the world are now creating amazing O.F. fx as the result of your hard work.

I love the plugin. Great price, ease of use, intelligent and intuitive. The one problem I saw right from the beggining that KLF has over OF is the install process. I like just clicking a setup.exe file and launching the plugin. Alot easier smoother and user friendly. The way OF is set up isn't bad but I feel like it needs improvement :( sorry to say

I ordered this plugin and, in fact, it's a great job for a little price. So many thanks...

But the color gradient of the lights is not perfect on my screen (Samsung P2450H / Radeon HD-5850). Color transitions is not smooth.

I think it is After Efect, not the plugin.

What a plug-in this looks to be. Awesomeness. Great price, truly exceptional product. Well done to all involved.

Cheers!
January 27th, 2010 @ 6:51 am
Put in my order, didn't receive the download link. Sent an email to support, and within an hour they'd emailed me the download link. Still waiting for the pre-net link, but watched the tutorials. The plugin runs smooth and quickly, its very easy to use and has great results! Only used a few basic flares but my next project is going to use the concert idea and wall of lights effects to create a showroom of sorts.. I'm eager to get started!

I haven't made any projects for profit yet, so even as a pure hobbyist, it has been well worth the money spent, just to get that extra professionalism in my projects!

Thankyou very much for the hard-work put in, and also the great after-purchase customer support!

After a night of using your plug-in for a production job, I have to say I'm extremely impressed. I'm sure you're not surprised considering the response you've received but I just had to add my kudos anyway.

I assume there is a place to submit suggestions? After I get done playing with the plug-in more, I might have a few features that would be nice to have. One such suggestion would be an alert warning me that I've used lens flares for too many concurrent projects and I might want to consider another effect for the current project. I seem to be addicted to this plug-in. It's just fun! =)

February 1st, 2010 @ 3:39 pm
Hey Nick

Funny you should mention that,..I have been playing around with very idea. What’s cool is I work in Photoshop a lot and to get away from the limited photoshop filter flare is great!....What I’ve been doing is rendering out a single frame (psd.) with a single custom flare on a black solid in AE. Then incorporating it into a photoshop file,.. then use the screen mode. Works pretty good..sometimes you have to feather some edges but sure is nice to create whatever you want!......Again,.. thanks Andrew!
February 1st, 2010 @ 4:01 pm
I use real light flares and other effects most of the time and composite them in Photoshop.
But it would be great to have Optical Lens in PS.

Hey,
Well, I have to confess... when I first heard about this new plugin I thought 'why would I wan't to spend money on optical flares? Surely Andrew and his team could've spent their efforts on something better?'...
Ah how wrong I was. As soon as I actually saw them in action I realised that I 'needed' them!
I have to say that 'Blue Steel' is a truly beautiful flare... Is there any truth to the rumours that you will be introducing 'Ferari', 'LaTigra' and perhaps even... 'Magnum' flares?...
Anyway, great work guys. Keep it up!
