Optical Flares In Action

Video Link

As we get closer to the release of Optical Flares, our new lens flare creation studio, I wanted to show you some cool examples of Optical Flares in action. This reel includes actual productions by some of our beta testers and some tests I did internally.  I think this reel has a nice variety of how lens flares can be used but I’m sure you could think of many more!

Motion graphics or visual effects… be ready for Optical Flares: January 25, 2010.

Awesome! I wasn’t expecting something as BEAUTIFUL as that! This seems to be a 100 times better that Knoll Light Factory ;) Haha nice job!

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:19 pm

Oh my goodness. That looks so amazing, I’m not really sure why I’m shocked, but I still am. Thats ridicolously sick, I would easily pay twice that to get that product. Red Giant’s got to be getting pretty pissed, because your going to put them out of buisness.

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:19 pm

WOW, this is definitely going to me a must-have. Andrew, do you have a price set yet on it? I want to make sure I set aside enough money this month so won’t miss out on getting it when it’s released. Thanks.

Oh yeah, this reel is AWESOME! It got me drooling right away.

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

This lens flares war between you and Knoll has clearly meant a bonanza for us consumers :)

Jakob
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

Next thing in the shopping cart: optical flares

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

VERY NICE!

Excited about the new product and thanks again for the SureTarget update.

Armen
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:24 pm

Pretty sick man can’t wait for it to come out. I didn’t think you could do all those things with lens flares lol. But then again your AK you can do anything! lol

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:25 pm

I don’t suppose you could make a version of that without the flares. In trying to get approval to buy that, it would be nice to have a before and after for the non-video people above me.

Marcus
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:27 pm

I like that !!!

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:27 pm

@Erikcantu, I don’t think I have all of the original files but if you have a specific question on one of the shots, I’m sure I could share some insight.

Best.

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:28 pm

WOW. i cant imagine the “level” you are right now. in a span of five years and we your students are so gaining knowledge day by day. i still remembered the first time i learned the shake effect..it all started there and im so thankful that you are still the same andrew we knew. thanx master AK and remember that you are my brain to after effects. Thanx sir…

Lyndon Alvarez
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:28 pm

Yeah dude, awesome!!! If there ever was a tutorial request I could make, it would be “how the hell did that guy light that can” or “that awesome 3D text!”

Good job to everybody making this new product work. Those lens flares are super sexy!

Lyndon Alvarez
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:29 pm

Some insight into how that can was lit would be nice. Since you posted a split second after me mr. kramer

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:31 pm

Can we pre-order? So when you’re ready on the 25th you can ship? Also, do you have a cape, most superheros have capes.

Dan
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:32 pm

Impressive array of uses for this plugin to say the least! So basically it acts as a “stacked effect” on top of other types of generators (like Particular) or footage, where you define where the flare should display and/or what objects it should cover/follow?

Can’t wait for the release and tutorial. I’m all over it. :) Thanks for making this.

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:32 pm

This makes a mediocre scene look like a spectacular scene

Anthony Miller
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:32 pm

I would definitely be willing to pre-order. Any place we can do this?

Thanks.

Boss
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:34 pm

Move over Knoll Light Factory, we have a new winner.

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:36 pm

@Andrew Kramer: Will these flares be generated as 32bit float? Please say yes! :)

Andres Fernandez
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:36 pm

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:37 pm

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:43 pm

Hi Andrew!

Love the new product and like everyone else, have already budgeted for the purchase. On the reel you have a clip with ‘Video Co-Pilot” extruded text and a light wall behind it. I’d love to know how that effect was done if you wouldn’t mind sharing :)

Rick Morris
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:44 pm

I thinking you will impose a new trend, with the use of optical flares, I just hope people don´t over do it!!

January 14th, 2010 @ 12:45 pm

wow! That looks awesome!

EgViAgN
January 14th, 2010 @ 12:46 pm

Had to watch that a few times but I think I have seen several of the clips on TV, if not the exact video something very close.
Can’t wait for the plug-in to come out. I am working on a graphic novel in Photo Shop and In Design and would love to implement some flares into some of the panels. Is there a final price or will it still be @ the $200 range?
Thanks, Andrew, for all you do! Carma is powerful and it is very clear that it has come back to you. After many years of giving and giving you have a something great to show for it.
I look forward for this addition to my Video Copilot Collection.
Thanks again,
Brad.

It’s been an amazing week at Video Copilot. I feel proud to be a part of the community you’ve built. I’ll be buying Optical Flares on the day of release – partly to support the site but mainly because it’s such an enhancing product.

Sure Target 1.5 was a revelation. Sure Target 2 surpasses it.

And your insight into the Particular 2 smoke effect came at just the right time as I’m working on a project that needs a similar effect – i’d been trying to achieve it with out the custom sprite. the smoky wisp element really allowed me to achieve the look that i originally had.

Thanks a lot – you deserve all the success you’ve achieved.

Jack
January 14th, 2010 @ 1:40 pm

Damn epic. Will buy it. :)
Please make a tutorial about rendering this stylish 3D text at the beginning and the end. Great plug-in, can’t wait. Really andrewsome.

Looks very impressive!
Credit card is burning a hole in my pocket to order!!

BTW, are these examples real life ones (like the german ad) or custom demo’s for OF?
Because that would mean some people have had trial versions! ;-)

January 14th, 2010 @ 1:55 pm

Absolutely amazing stuff – I was imagining a set of definable lens flares but this is much more flexible I will have to steal my hubby’s Bank Card is it okay to blame you Andrew if I get caught? ;)

January 14th, 2010 @ 1:55 pm

One word “Amazing”

It’s pretty cool to have been lurking around this site for awhile and getting to see the evolution of Video Copilot and Andrew’s skills. Andrew I must say that I didn’t expect to see anything but the best quality from you and your team and you guys proved me right! Congratulations on all of your success and keep up the good work, because you’re helping out so many people in this industry.

Looks nice. I already own Knoll Light Factory, but if they do not step up with a major overhaul on the UI and better 3D functionality, I am switching over to your plugin for sure. The UI on Optical Flares alone is worth the switch. Looks Great!

Wow, amazing stuff… I particularly love the flares where it looks like there are hundreds of 800watt lights behind the text. It’s exactly what I’m after for my music video!!!

January 14th, 2010 @ 4:43 pm

I’ve noticed you a lot of 3D metallic text in your videos so my question is how do you do the metallic 3d text? It’ll be great if you could do a tutorial on that. Thanks

January 14th, 2010 @ 4:46 pm

I like the LED thing at 0:32 how dit u made this.. are those all seperate Flare Elements??? or how was that made?

I claim False Advertising on this product.

Lens flares are those ugly things that Photoshop filter does.

This is more like “Awesomo VideoCopilot Lighting Plugin”

So um… stop false advertising this products as lens flares. :-P

January 14th, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

January 14th, 2010 @ 6:13 pm

I AM speechless. That was unbelievable. The optical flare seems to be light years ahead anything I have seen before. Yes sir you can count me in, I am definitely buying that. It’s funny thing that every time you bring something out it somehow seems to push the boundaries of plugins or collections or anything so far that soon many companies are in big trouble. Not many companies can offer such quality products at such low price.

Very soon the day is coming when you not only reference VIDEOCOPILOT as a industry standard but a industry leader.

Hey Andrew,

Question about the smoke trails:

Are they literally created in particular or images kinda put together in particular (like in the medical zoom tutorial)?

January 14th, 2010 @ 11:50 pm

This is more than cool !
