OK. It’s really happening, finally! Our crystal ball promo video is going online tomorrow! After many months of tinkering away in our extra time we have finished producing an odd but interesting new project and it all started here at Video Copilot

Also Andrew….was all compositing done in AE? You mentioned in another post that you’d been doing some work with Nuke…

Everybody knows Andrew can not grow a beard! This beard had to of been grown by Sam and then pasted onto Andrew.

I was amazed when I saw the scene lighting made in 3ds max! please, can you show us Andrew, or just describe how did you achieve this great look?
The only problem with 3ds max is that.. it needs a week of rendering for quality stuff.
I hope your servers are ready for all the traffic you’ll be receiving tomorrow. There are a lot of us, and we’ve been looking forward to this video more than anything being released in theaters

The whole thing isnt about an orb at all, its for VCP’s new hair and fur plug in for AE, why else would he spend so much time talking about the cat fur coat, or that sexy post production beard that he grew in no time flat.

By the time I was waiting for this! It looks really good. I just have one question concerning the 3D input: I’ve already tried this technique, but it took me a while to render (2 days for ~30 sec.) and if I decrease the details (polys) the quality becomes kind of cra*py. Just wanted to know the good balance between quantity of polys and rendering time.
I guess that you’re pretty busy and you probably won’t have reply, so if anyone else can answer me I would be grateful.
btw, I loved the beard!

i figured it out.(the beard thing) Or atleast i know what i would’ve done. I noticed that shave was kinda fresh, as opposed to the stubble you have at the beginning of the video. I’m think you shot the bearded part first then shaved and shot the first part. As for the bricks. They were already arranged on the floor when you had the beard and you simply piled them up and rewound the footage. HAHA!(evil laugh) you thought you had me.
Question. The Bazooka gum, did they sponsor the film hence product placement or is that the secret ‘element’ to your work?

Wow, really good stuff. Better VFX than some of the blockbusters of the past year. Exceptional how Andrew and everybody at VideoCopilot (give us a digital tour Andrew!!!) keep 2d VFX alive. A lot of films use 3d, and it looks obvious, but some of the work from VC is hard to label as ‘fake’.

Where did you get that ball to make an orb? I’d like to make something similar and was playing with the idea that I could get some green ball unfortunatelly I did not know it’s actual selling until now.
