Discover The Secret…

Soon. Unfortunately today all I can show is another teaser for another project that I can’t publish yet… I know, but I just want to show you proof that we’ve been busy doing something, at least. This is the update: we are waiting for some paperwork to get finished and some minor legal dealing and then I’ll be posting the video. And no, it’s not a movie. Not exactly… not even close really.

Let’s just say in my limited free time for the past six months, minus the 3 months of work I did for Super 8, developing Plug-ins, and enjoying my family, I’ve also been chipping away at this unusual project. It’s finally almost done. If I tell you what it is, then it may somewhat ruin the surprise, if I build it up too much, you might get disappointing. So Just keep an eye out for it, no big deal, but I really am looking forward to sharing it with the community! Thanks.

July 11th, 2011 @ 5:15 am
nice work .... cooooooooooooooooooool

    July 14th, 2011 @ 2:25 pm
I agree 100%. I'm a newb to after effects but you do an awesome job with these tutorials of dumbing it down so I can implement them in my work. I know as I learn more from you that I'll get better at creating my own ideas. Thanks a ton.

July 11th, 2011 @ 5:17 am
So.. its a game?? =) or is it another amazing plugin? =D
    July 11th, 2011 @ 1:33 pm
can not be a game since Andrew did not study this
I do not think that is a plug-in as they were recorded on this so.
wait and see the magic of Andrew :D
no puede ser un juego ya que Andrew no Estudio esto
tampoco creo que sea un Plug-in ya que se vieron grabaciones sobre esto asi que
esperemos a ver la Magia :D
    July 12th, 2011 @ 3:01 pm
I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this being a game or something similar.
Wether Andrew studied interactive design or not is not so relevant in the age of the Internet.

Interactive flash stuff is fairly easy to create.
July 11th, 2011 @ 5:17 am
AWESOME!! :D I'm looking forward to seeing it!!
    November 18th, 2011 @ 9:14 am

July 11th, 2011 @ 5:45 am

i do love his directing very much.....
he gives me the meteor movie
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:07 am
I ready for another "EXCITING" tutorial! :)
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:08 am
There's the problem, squandering time "enjoying the family" If you spent more time concentrating on getting your work done than "enjoying the family" there wouldn't be these delays.

Whats next: "Vacation with the family?" I don't know........ what ever happened to priorities..?
    July 11th, 2011 @ 7:14 am
Tell me about it! Actually truth be told, there a little vacation coming up...
    July 11th, 2011 @ 1:36 pm
Darren, from a parent prespective, I'm sure 'family' is always number one on priorities and work should never intervene with that. So cut Andrew some slack, he is a hard worker and from what it appears a brilliant dad, so allow him to bring up his children and stop being rude.
    July 11th, 2011 @ 1:59 pm
Darren no offence but you must be a lonely individual. without Andrews family, you probably wouldn't have a VDEOCOPILOT to criticize so be more objective. All work and no play, means you can't even enjoy your pay.
    Rich T
    July 11th, 2011 @ 2:02 pm
Luke, Darren was having a laugh.

But then maybe you were too and it was like a double-bluff thing?
    July 11th, 2011 @ 2:10 pm
I'm pretty sure Darren was being cheeky :) So was I.
    July 11th, 2011 @ 3:52 pm
That's the problem with anything written. Sometimes it is hard to get across what you mean in words. I gotten into a few misunderstandings that way. That's why :) is so valuable!
    July 11th, 2011 @ 11:43 pm
So no vacation then...? The family will not be pleased :)
    July 12th, 2011 @ 4:03 am
I need to work on my timing and delivery..........I'm sure Andrew got the irony.......
    July 12th, 2011 @ 4:03 am
    ooops :)
    July 14th, 2011 @ 3:47 am
Boy, am I glad I not Darren, but just a cheekylilbasterd
and oh before I forget :)
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:27 am
Is that like the "Apple of Eden" or something ?
Tyle Renake
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:29 am
I'm very excited to see how Sam will die in this one! Being fantasy...there are so many routes to take!
    July 12th, 2011 @ 8:42 pm
Yeah! As soon as we saw the production still of Sam with the glowing ball we knew he was going to die :D
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:30 am
Looking forward to seeing the outcome, but I can already tell that it will be a legendary projects. Awaiting my next inspiration.

Thanks Andrew
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:49 am
Hey Andrew, I was wondering if you were going to be doing any tutorials for Apples Motion. I was thinkin of doing some myself because the $50 price point on a complete compositing suite is pretty sick. Your thoughts?
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:55 am
Andrew, honestly tell me where was this inspired from? Assassin's Creed ? :D
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:59 am
Nice andrew!

Aditya Mulgundkar
July 11th, 2011 @ 7:21 am
Hey Andrew, i've been working with vfx for over a year now... thanx to you, i've been through all your tutorials! The only problem i face every time is sound fx. I kinda don't like working on it!! please recommend some good sound fx tutorials either made by you or some other good community!

Thanx in advance!
    Aaron Cline
    July 11th, 2011 @ 8:42 am
Hey Aditya, I was thinking about doing some sound design tutorials. Do you think this would be something that people would actually watch? I seen your comment and and was like... "SFX are the 2nd best part!" I do foley and sound design as well for clients. I have 8 yrs. experience. Give me some feedback. Thanx!!
    July 11th, 2011 @ 3:54 pm
I second that. Can anyone direct us to a good place to learn how to build sound effects or download good free ones?
    Aditya Mulgundkar
    July 17th, 2011 @ 2:21 am
@aaron.... Sfx actually means special effects, i guess, not sound fx. and yeah, it would be a pleasure to watch some good tutorials based on the same.... Since there are not many tutorials for sound fx around, i guess most of us here will love to learn something good from you. (the following is also for our idol, Mr.Kramer. whether he reads it or not!)

July 11th, 2011 @ 7:22 am
Looking forward to finally seeing what else you've been up to.

July 11th, 2011 @ 7:44 am
We look forward!!!!!
July 11th, 2011 @ 7:45 am

July 11th, 2011 @ 9:50 am
Im so exited to see what this is, from the teasers it looks awesome!!! :)
July 11th, 2011 @ 9:51 am
Like one of us said, the most important fact on this project is to see again our hero "SAM". This will be epic, I can feel it in my bones. When we can expect this on theater? Video Copilot is my another world. The real one. 8-)
Aditya Mulgundkar
July 11th, 2011 @ 9:55 am
It looks like Sam discovers some sort of an unimaginable secret! The guy behind sam seems to be the enemy and the chick in the middle looks like some sort of a princess? This 'project' seems to contain some magic... and maybe some mystery too!

This is really cool, i dont care wat the video is i know that you, Andrew, can do amazing things in the film industry! (i do care)

And you worked on Super 8 ??!?!?!?!
Alek B
July 11th, 2011 @ 12:29 pm
Well good to see you have been doing something! I've been checking the blog every day, and waiting with held breath for this trailer thing to come out. Regards from the West coast!
July 11th, 2011 @ 12:52 pm
i noticed the optical flares in super 8 and i was like, yep, theres andrew kramer
    July 11th, 2011 @ 2:12 pm
Actually, I thought I might answer this. I worked on about 100 VFX shots for the film and none of them included adding lens flares. I can't speak for the work of ILM but all of the flares in the film are shot in-camera using high-end anamorphic lenses. Our plug-in is designed to recreate these type of lens flares but the ones in the film are 100% REAL!

    July 11th, 2011 @ 3:58 pm
Wow!! I don't know what's more interesting: that the flares in Super 8 are actually all in-camera or that Optical Flares can recreate them!?!
    July 11th, 2011 @ 4:27 pm
in this case Andrew, maybe you can tell us more about what you did in those vfx shots at super 8. i'm curious. did you work in after effects or in nuke? as far as i know, ilm guys do most of their comping in nuke these days.
    July 11th, 2011 @ 5:37 pm
i wanna know how long it took to render the stuff for Super8. 100+ FX at what, 4K? What was Super8 shot on anyway? (hahaha, that sounds like the silliest question in the world, don't it?)
    July 11th, 2011 @ 5:57 pm
I was the lead at BadRobot doing the VFX in After Effects and 3D max, some of the compositors there used Nuke but we all worked in the same color space and there was no problems working with both platforms. The resolution is 2K anamorphic. ILM did most of the major shots but I got my hands on a variety of stuff from blue-screen composites to a couple of explosions and even a kid throwing up on a bus :) One of the most difficult shots was a rig removal on a moving vehicle, I'll try to get permission to demonstrate my workflow, it was crazy! Until then.
    July 11th, 2011 @ 6:51 pm
what the name of movie that was rig removal on moving vechicle in ?
    July 11th, 2011 @ 11:37 pm
Ha, too bad, I think a period film entitled "Super 8" would have benefited from some 70's designed VC Optical Flares.
    Jake The Muss
    July 12th, 2011 @ 8:01 am
    What....Optical Flares wasn't used..?
I've watched the trailer for Super8 a few times now and I'd have bet good money that OF was used.
    July 12th, 2011 @ 11:09 am
What a great insight Andrew, thank you!
    Remington M
    July 12th, 2011 @ 11:38 am
Wow! Thanks for sharing that Andrew. Like everyone else, I really would have bet a lot of money that was Optical Flares. Throughout the whole movie I kept pointing them out and telling people I could go home and recreate that same one :) I guess that just says a lot for Optical Flares that it does such a good job that people are calling real ones fake. Thanks for sharing and I really hope you can get the permission to share a little more about the project!
    July 12th, 2011 @ 12:19 pm
thanks 4 share ur expirience Andrew, so valuable and interesting!!
    July 13th, 2011 @ 11:17 pm
Wow, I would be super keen to see any Super 8 behind the scenes and workflows! I love JJ Abrams style.
Ehsan Farokhi
July 11th, 2011 @ 12:54 pm
Please tell me ore about it.
What is it exactly?
Is it a tutorial PACKAGE?
    July 11th, 2011 @ 5:02 pm
    haha :D tutorial package...
imagine Sam saying "Hey, what's up!!! Sam Loya here for videocopilotDOTnet, and welcome to VERY exciting tutorial...", and so on...
(it's probably would be very exciting tutorial)
July 11th, 2011 @ 1:13 pm
Ooh just can't wait ^^ I am pretty sure people will be asking for tutorial ^^
July 11th, 2011 @ 2:03 pm
Wow! Nice, but umm.. u sed no lens flares and there are a lot of them on the title :D. By the way i wanted to ask is Tonna a part of videocopilot and does she still star in your effects?
July 11th, 2011 @ 2:11 pm
Andrew you take your time with your family.
I mean i still haven't watched all your tutorials and im still finding new things that just EXPLODE my mind.
I'm glad you take time to see the family.

Looking forward to this one.
July 11th, 2011 @ 4:14 pm
WOW... can't wait to see Sam... his awesome, i like him... u too ANDREW.... ;)
July 11th, 2011 @ 4:25 pm
I'm just curious, can we see your name at the end of film, you know, the subtitle.
July 11th, 2011 @ 4:28 pm
You know Andrew, you need to do one of two things... A: divorce and kill the whole family, I mean you've already proved you can do something like that on screen it would make a really cool movie (just sayin). B: be like speilburgh, just hire other people to do your work! LOL! (But seriously you could get like some aliens goin, and it could be like District 9 where )
July 11th, 2011 @ 6:32 pm
You need to do a music video of Sam singing since he has such a wonderful voice.
    July 11th, 2011 @ 9:13 pm
July 11th, 2011 @ 8:11 pm
disc?.......if you hover your cursor over the image.....the truth shall be revealed......MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
    July 13th, 2011 @ 8:18 am
Ahh... But What kind of Disc??? DVD? CD? Frizbee?
    July 13th, 2011 @ 10:22 am
I think disc on the image is short for discover.
July 11th, 2011 @ 10:19 pm
I definitely know that you always work at something more serious and it should be so. VC is some area where the community develops its skills, meets, share information and ideas. And of course you have made tremendous contribution to let the community be, live.
It’s been a long time we see Sam. I feel I miss him))))
Love VC

July 12th, 2011 @ 12:05 am
Wow, its looking very good y honestly love the design. Are you planning of making this type of proyects for every year...? I mean, like somewhat art design idea kinda teaser movie series? LOL. I honestly believe, you can pull of a Harry Potter kinda short film-miniseries.
Thanks for sharing, hope we can also support the site with ideas(not exactly billion dollar ones... just half a billion ones)
Bendiciones desde Honduras (Best wishes from Honduras)!!!
July 12th, 2011 @ 12:10 am
Tutorial will be Ok, But I am waiting for sam
July 12th, 2011 @ 1:17 am
First off its great to see Andrew getting more involved with the community through the comments and I think i speak for us all when I say, "take you time, we much prefer quality over quantity."

Those sites that churn out a tutorial a week usually end up having poor end results and a lack of real learning. At least with you we wait patiently KNOWING that we are going to really learn something fantastic.

Keep up the good work Andrew, your an inspiration to us all.

July 12th, 2011 @ 3:03 am
I've been hitting up video copilot at least 5 times a day for the past few years, hoping new things have been posted. You're stuff is just awesome. And with regards to the teaser...You sure do a good job at keeping us in suspense!

Oh, and does Sam just live in a small cupboard under your stairs? Fetched out only when is brilliance is needed, as if he had a magical gift or something? I think there's a film like that... Independence day maybe. :)
July 12th, 2011 @ 3:03 am
gd work vc team ....
July 12th, 2011 @ 3:22 am
Good work Andrew - coming from some one here who juggles making movies, raising a young family and working a day job, it doesn't matter how long it takes to release your new video, the fact you can do all three of those things at once and still remain standing is perhaps what's really amazing about what you do and I for one know all too well what thats like. Applause.

July 12th, 2011 @ 5:36 am
Really looking forward to discover the secret and I really hope you're serious about getting approval to show your techniques on the difficult rig-removal, that would also be a very valuable tutorial or blog-item!
It's sort of surreal reading your entries, talking about working with ILM! Look what you've accomplished, RESPECT!
Also for Sam, ofcourse...

July 12th, 2011 @ 6:07 am

July 12th, 2011 @ 6:56 am
Do not worry Andrew, you've always brought us great surprises. =)
July 12th, 2011 @ 7:31 am
Here's the premise:
Sam Loya falls victim to/and is shunned by not one, but TWO beautiful women, who then go and make out with the mysterious bald dude in the background while Sam looks on in disbelief and surprise as he disintegrates in a swirling ball of magical VFX featuring Video Copilot's Element plugin. Did I nail it or what?
July 12th, 2011 @ 7:37 am

I've been working on an experimental video for a couple of days which I shot with my friend. I used your plug-in "Twitch" extreeemly extensively here. So please take a quick look at it, if you have the time:

No need to feel like your building us up for something and letting us down. All your work is the reason i am now in college for digital media. I have been for two years now after seeing one of your tutorials. i am fascinated with motion graphics and visual fx. i have after effects cs 4 and cs5. i have pro scores, action essentials 1 and 2. designer sound fx, bullet, series one, riot gear, evolution and opticle flares. i am learning so much from you and taking that to the next level. look forward to seeing the project you have when its done. please keep up the work and all the best..

Or maybe in a movie like scarymovies
July 13th, 2011 @ 12:04 pm
Andrew, can you translate this website in like...Chinese, it would be great if I see all in hieroglyphs. And change the colors. Let's say vivid green with vivid glowing pink.

And make it for 3D glasses. Just an idea. Free idea.

By the way I am looking forward seeing Sam in another serious movie.

Mr. Kramer,Im 17 and my dream is to study VFX.I want to deeply thank you for everything.I want to thank you for getting me closer and closer to my dream. It is your tutorials,Your tips that make me get better, make me believe that I will, eventually, succeed one day.Thank you for this gift!
July 13th, 2011 @ 3:18 pm
Is this where we learn that the candle burning Sam's ear off is real - the lesson being that sometimes you've just got to do the effect for real and let the natural world get in the movie.

Greetings from New Zealand.

July 13th, 2011 @ 3:20 pm
Oh and I don't know if anyone spotted it... but I think AE2 was used in Predators! Watched it on Bluray the other night again.... and noticed the muzzle flashes looked familiar..... but I could be wrong ;)

So, I have seen only the preview of Super 8 but with all the coolness You helped create, there's no telling how cool this new Movie/tutorial inspiration will be. Without VideoCopilot, I don't know where TVFilms would be... Thanks for all of your sage wisdom in After Effects and other programs, it's really appreciated by I'm sure, all of the users on this site, and most definitely, TVFilms. Thanks Andrew.
July 14th, 2011 @ 7:01 am
Take your time^^ Thanks.

July 14th, 2011 @ 7:38 am
Andrew, you are great at VFX, but not killing people by suspense, but saying that this suspense is killing me and let me tell you this is not a VFX right now, so HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT ?????????
July 14th, 2011 @ 8:51 am
Andrew, you blow me away. You have such incredible raw talent. I can't wait to see more.
July 14th, 2011 @ 9:12 am
I know you spoke to this a little already, but what was it like working with Bad Robot on Super 8?! What was J.J's directing style like? I have heard horror stories about Michael Bay, and cant imagine that JJ would be the same. Being team lead on something as big as this must have required a ton of organization and fun! Can you speak to that at all..
Insane how this little site started out and where you are now. Congrats on your huge successes!
July 14th, 2011 @ 9:28 am
Andrew woooooooow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice!!! awesome!!! wooohoooo!

July 14th, 2011 @ 4:34 pm
"Hello Andrew, I just finish watching the movie "Super 8". It was really exciting and really a wondering on what the creature is and whats going to happen next. I watch the movie tell the end with the credits and saw your name with the list of graphic editors for this movie. That's aw-some!! I'm looking forward in buying this movie.

Well Mr Andrew am I right? :p
    July 17th, 2011 @ 11:35 am
In that case... i have a feeling that we might have to buy this.. i mean with all the investment for hiring actresses and studio... I think its like a DVD pack of tutorials on how to make a short movie...
July 17th, 2011 @ 3:17 am
This "movie poster" is sux... try to imagine it without "Mr. Kramer" bigness... just look at it without the video copilot feeling! It is crappy! Full of B-type faces in a radicolous enviroment... so uncool... But hey!! I love all the VC stuff, and i bought some product too... so i'm a real fan! This critic is just my honest opinion...
