I was experimenting with some interesting energy fields and I discovered a fun combination of effects. I used the standard fractal noise effect to create a basic turbulent map and then applied a Find Edges effect on top. I added some color correction and a glow to give it more punch and even animated the evolution settings. Feel free to play around with the fractal noise settings with the Find Edges effect applied and see what other interesting looks you can discover.
The project file is only cs5 because I don’t have CS4 on my laptop right now but I took a screen shot of the settings so that should help.

It’s Always good to see this kind of Discoveries! Helps to inspire new ways of thinking not just for this effect but for many others! Triggers the “thinking outside the box” effect! Thanks! ;D
So amazing. Just goes to show that everything in after effects can and will be turned into something else… Well almost everything in after effects. Lol.

hey i got some interesting results when i applied this to an image with a little modification …pls check my post ! http://www.videocopilot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=57315
This isn’t new if you experiment with After Effects. I guess “anything” Andrew puts out is considered genius these days lol
Interesting though it creates slow processing with crappy system. I love the imagination Andrew – reminds me of Dr. Lecter when he mentioned something about the Red Dragon.
Thanks for Sharing, Andrew!
Glad you thought about us CS4 & below users and took a screen shot. I can’t afford a new 64 bit operating system and CS5 AE, so thanks. Can’t wait to try this tonight!
Its really Nice, It looks Great Thanks for your Great help and Tutorials Mr. Kramer, I really Appreciated this post
Fudgin BEAST!!! awesome Andrew!!!
i want it for my cs4 edition plsss…
Hey Mr. Kramer,
Looks very nice, but it’s CS5
Could you upload a CS4 version too? That would be great if it isn’t that hard
-Dustin
Agreed, Haven’t bought CS5 yet.
A CS4 Version would be great!
same here…
is it possible to convert the file into a lower version of after effects?
Guys, I think the idea here is to experiment on your own. These effects are all available in earlier versions of AE (and similar effects in other editing packages). The whole point of these tutorials and sample files is to help teach techniques, not to outright give you the project to slap into your own footage.
It’s easy. Create a new comp. Creates a new solid. Add the fractal noise effect. You can even use the settings seen in the link above. Animate evolution over time.. Add the find edges effect, followed by a curves adjustment to get the colors the way you’d like to see them. Finally, add a glow.
That’s it. You probably won’t get the exact same look Andrew achieved, but do you really want to be a copycat?
Make your own, don’t be a clone.
thanks chris for the help
uh oh.. no 64 bit yet, nail it again mr K.
hehe…..
can it be cs3 version?
hope that this will be happen…
a cs3 version…
I agree
I cannot buy cs5 version yet
Just copy the settings postet by Andrew.
I’m using CS3 and it works exactly as expected… no need for CS3 or CS4 files and some extra hassle
pls upload cs4 version project file

Hi Andrew,
You all guys are simply awesome! I am amazed how easily you show the path of after effects. I am masum from bangladesh and grateful to for your hundreds of tutorials in this site. My uncle bought evolution and i used it for last couple of weeks. Very nice stuff! Please accept my thanks……. wish u good luck andrew…….. you are my guru…….
nice Andrew i appreciate alot u have really helped me so much creatively thnks
This is some crazy stuff. That dang fractal noise is so handy.
fractal noise has to be the most versatile tool you can have in your arsenal and here is another proof of it!
I’m about as newbie as it gets and would like some advice on how to change this one to a white background with these beautiful highlights in shades of blue. they would make a perfect summer water surface effect to put over a logo (on a white bkground). I’ve played with everything but…er…well…ya know.
By the way Andrew. I take my hat off to your creativity, gift for explanation, sense of humour and your sheer humanity of putting so much in the hands of so many. From CERN to LEARN. This is what the web was made for man! Just wish I could return.
