Here’s a great action scene by a talented filmmaker I found on youtube. The fx are cool and the action is well designed. Gotta love his style and sense of humor too. Enjoy!
And ya, I’m pretty sure he used Video Copilot’s Action Essentials 2 for a lot of the bullet hits and muzzle flashes but I must give the credit to the filmmakers for great compositing and integration.
Check out this other great movie scene.

UM freddiew uploaded this video, he made it
Cooool…. This looks amazing.
Wow thats pretty cool, great post!
It even looked real at some level… wow. Iam amazed. :O
Haha, great little scéne:
lots of camera view change, awesome compositing, great fight moves and subtle humour: GREAT :p
Haha, I loved it! What I would really love is another amazing tutorial buddy!
very good !!!!!!!
Ahh Freddy Wong! I love his stuff:D Really talented guy! Loved his rocking out on a moving car:3
Oh and in his behind the scenes video of this, he actually mentioned Action Essentials 2
i think he might have used AE2 for the bullet hits though, (but not the blood, he used squibs for that)
That’s actually not true, his blood is red chalk dust, not squibs.
I also found them about week ago, and he actually told in his jedi a-holes vdeo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1kZuZNmIP0) about Your plugin:D
By the way, did ever thought about making some kind of contest for Videocopilot lovers? That would be very interesting i think^^
nice i saw this man with mystry guitar man
Too cool, especially the moves on the last shooting takedown, the way he swung around the corner, grabbed the rifle, then shot them both.
The muzzle flashes definitely look like VCP stuff.
The camera on the end of the rifle was a clever shot.
very cool. thanks for sharing this Andrew.
I loved the way he introduced the light of his muzzle flashe. (by copying the BG layer and put it to “add” and then mask the places that we want)!
Awesome action scene! Thanks for showing us.
That was fantastic. Really well done action there.
Mmmm.. Great)))
Andrew, when we will see that tutorial with breaking glass????)))
this is a cool action scene.
but i didnt like him in what he talked about the filmakers in the making video….
That was bloody tight man!!!
ha i posted this in the forums yesterday! http://www.videocopilot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=37886
i miss the collor effects….
Heres a film that me and my comrades spent about a year making. We used alot of products from videocopilot to create it:)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN0lVu0HfGc
looks pretty good..but I’d add some color correction too…green easy..yeah ya know what I’m talking about
Ha Ha I’ve seen this on YouTube before
He did a really good job to.
Andrew, the mega piranha was better than Ricky:)
I have been following freddie Wong for ages now and i really rate him as a film maker. just check his tribute to modern warfare… its arguably the best one out there. andrew kramers plugins rock but i kinda wished he blogged more often :p or more tutorials… buts thats just cuz i am selfish
haha
Graet shot and amazing use the Action essential that was awesome sure the first…. i don’t gonna say nothin’ about the second…
mystery guitar man showed him to me. i don’t know if you know the youtube user “destorm”. in his second last vid he was on videocopilot.net
nice check out the short he did based on mw2 frozen crossing.
i really like the use of the smoke blood style effect, i’ve seen this effect used on films such as Saving Private Ryan, i really like it! XD
The last move is really good
I subscribed to their channel. They’re awesome! xD
Also the tips for the action scene were very useful.
that last link made me cry!
wow, that’s nice
I prefer the other great movie scene! Had me in stitches laughing!! Lol!
The guy’s got some pretty neat moves too
Great action and also nice jokes. i love it
This is amazing. Perfect tracking, perfect compositing, etc.
muito bom ele realmente manda bem mas ainda nao vi tao talentosos como vcs da video copilot
Again a awesome clip from Andrew kramer!
We need a cinematography tutorial
Actually, I’ve seen the video before, and it’s nice because it uses your action essentials 2 product
This guy was the original Bad Ass Guitar Hero player. Was amazing to watch.
I’m actually subbed to this guy. I study a lot of his short films, and catch a few of his tutorials occasionally. I hope to get into things like that, but my main focus is Freestyle Motocross videos. I guess I could integrate rider intros with these, those would be awesome!
That’s awesome! Ah man, the memories that flooded back at the words “Chrono Trigger.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Trigger
And here I was thinking it was gonna be something in regards to the all-time SNES classic RPG by Squaresoft Enix, Chrono Trigger.
did u forget the gun fire sound in designer sound fx
Wow that is some impressive stuff. Thanks for sharing Andrew.
Hey Andrew,
Any tips or tutorials on how to use footage from real life and from a video game and blend them together to make the character transform from real to virtual while in motion?
oh very good thank you
This is Freddy Wong from Youtube! I love his videos. Just go to http://youtube.com/freddiew
Looks fantastic! Looks as good as what you find on TV. Great work!
cool one , great work .
I’m pretty sure that they got the sound of the guns from Call of Duty 6, since I’m playing the game and I recognize the sound is exactly the same as that appeared in the game.
nice video.
liked a lot the shirt of a bad guy with A. Shevchenko name on it
Ukraine <3
Awesome and I must say “Action movie essentials – Great”
Great video !! It would have been even better with film magic pro or magic bullet looks because the colors are really “handycam-like”.
This is cool too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzQMGMuD1sU
that was great, nice film quality also.
The second video is SO splatter! XD Is the same for every “japanese Video” with martial art. That kind of video, I mean, of course! Love these kind of video direction!
hahahahah…that last one cracked me up…thanks AK
Nervous logo animation using Action essentials 2:
http://www.vimeo.com/12129362
i realize now sound is may be too staturate.
Great work man! You must finally make a movie
all very beautiful, except for the Milan A.C. andriy shevchenko jersey
freddiew is awesome. check out his other movies!
Freddy wong kicks ass! his modern warfare tribute is so awesome :O
Hey it’s Freddiew!!
hahahahaha great video … I loved it so much
Andrew, you should watch his Mw2 tribute video, it also uses AE2, and it’s awesome too!
uhuuuu….amazing…..
Just before Andrew posted this on the 27th, my friends and I were watching it, and I said to them, he used after effects with Andrew Kramer’s add-ons or plug in packs
Great action sequeunce, camera movement was fantastic, viusal compisiting was outstanding, all the scene required was some colour correction and some score to polish it up!
Favorite move: the dive pistol shots!
yeah, freddie’s defenitely a very talented filmmaker.
his videos are awesome!
HEY ANDREW
If u thought IRON MAN 2 was cool… take a look at this..
http://www.vimeo.com/12072738
@ Suvir (post above)
Damn, that was an awesome video
wowwwwwww i loved it ………damnnnnnnnnnnnn
Freddie Wong FTW
And oh, he used Action Essentials, if you click on his tutorial about muzzle flashes he explains that you can get the smoke from a pack called “videocopilot action essentials 2
”
@ Rogier Colijn
he just said that you can get it from AE2, yes he did use AE2 for smoke but NOT FOR MUZZLE FLASHES
LOL my sister just asked:

-Are they using real guns??
And btw, in the making of, he says he’s using videocopilot!
Andrew ur the best!
You’re seriously recommending the second one as great Andrew?! People need to see that? My respect for you just got dinged a little…
@Blake in the tutorial he shows how to use a google image but in the scene he used action essentials 2 muzzle flashes for almost every shot. He actually emailed me after I posted the video. He’s a really nice guy.
@JP
(Some people clearly don’t understand AK’s sense of humour.)
Lol.
in this video there is no fire reflection on hero’s specs(which shown in this blog image).
Part of me died watching the “other great movie scene”. But I guess that’s an example of how not to do it.
Hey Andrew, i was just wondering on the number of comments that each of your post gets. Why don’t u republish the names of the countries again, who visits videocopilot.net the most ;the updated list i mean, that you previously posted a lot of days ago at http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2009/10/top-50-countries-visiting-video-copilot . India was in 10th position. i hope it must be in top 3 by now. Thanks!
ha ha, Love it. *yes*
murder a unforgivable sin
can i have your mailing address sunil thapa(nepal).
got one with funny humor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2H-SOqbQoA
cheers
Awsome as always, I watched behinde the scene, too.
All of them was your tricks.
You are amazing.
Milan T-Shirt! I have one xD
Great SOUND DESIGN here. Really helps sell the effecs
Not so bad, but it looks like a fake, when the bad guys were frozen. You and your team is shooting much better.
NIce job!, again! you rock!
I’ve done some videos with my friends but actually those aren’t so good, because i haven’t got a nice HD camera yet.
Wow, Andrew shows violence in his site. First time.
Inspired by you, AC
Cool! The sound and VFX are very nice!!
We are still waiting for the new tutorial. It passed more than a mounth till you’re last one and I’m sure this is going to be a good one.
Awesome video but it doesn’t come close to IRON BABY.
http://vimeo.com/12072738
am i want know where did u get the sound (gun fx) FX ?
BrabazOOo!! Is very Cool!
whoa i saw this like 2 minutes ago. I figured he used some action essentials in there
Hey does anyone know how i can do that blood smoke/misting effect?
i did one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRhluYl7d6Y
Pretty inspiring. Well, truly inspiring.
Buffalo ’66 < interesting movie/excellent bullet time scene
Yeah Andrew, a Movie action-scene contest by VC would be awsome!! Or maybe every month a new contest? All results vieable on a separate page. That would be a lot of fun!!
Think about it! And keep on doing what you do, inspiring all of us!
Ciao Aldo Smit,
(from a rainy Amsterdam…)
Just finished a (very low budged, 1500,- euro) ad for a Dutch Dance Event called Shadowlands Revolution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8WNjWScgK0
Did a green screen shoot with only 8 people and used Trapcode Particular to create the crowdscene. Shot on a Panasonic HVX 200 on 720P. Used After FX CS 4 to finish.
Andrew, thank for your great tutorials!
Ciao Aldo
That was magical.
We have some nice stuff a bit like this on our new Showreel:
http://www.whitenoisestudios.com/work/motiongraphics/
cheers!
Ya, Freddiew has always been amazing…. I watched that the first day it came out
Glad Andrew got to see this. This guy is very talented with after effects
This is good stuff for a tutorial
ahh, andrew your wrong for once. haha. im subbed to freddie, have been for some time and he did a tutorial on how he makes his muzzle flashes, and their actually just still pictures he found on google.
the bullet hits dont look like ae2. What do u think he used to create the hits that look like red mist in mid air ?????
It is a nice work indeed but there is a lack common sense into it as “why should I bother in going through all that hard work to kill 3 guys, when I can freez time and kill em all at once” doesn’t have any sense to me
. Despite that I think it is a very professional work edition wise, but not really thought through regarding content.
I liked the video. My question is regarding the gun Mr. Wong used. It is a gas airsoft as the electric airsoft doesn’t have a magazine as the batteries are in the handle. I have one gas gun and it won’t shoot unless there are pellets in it. So I’m confused as to whether he was actually shooting pellets at the actors or there is some way to shoot a gas airsoft without it being loaded. Also does anyone know what pistol he used? I’ve looked at a pantload of airsoft websites and have not found it. Thanks
That is cool. And whoever said below that he should host a video contest, I posted that in the forum about a month ago.
You got me thinking someone did a live action “Chrono Trigger” video, based off the SNES title. I was pretty stoked. I wasn’t disappointed, very clean video… but I’m still sad
can someone tell me, how he did that slow motion effect at the begining????
This was not made by Andrew this was made by Freddie W. AK makes great videos but this is not his. I love Friddie’s vids.
great short. i came across this video
http://vimeo.com/12166876
i see some vc if i’m not mistaken.
I don’t care what others were saying about the video needing color correction or would’ve been better shot with this type of software or that type of software… Dude! That was an awesome piece of work. I was beyond impressed Mr. Freddie Wong. I would love to leave AZ and do work with you. Not taking anything away from Andrew because I’ve been using Andrew’s tutorials since day 1 bro.
@bill carboni. Hey Bill, the link below might be a good place start for your search.
http://www.airsplat.com/Items/GP-HGBB-189C.htm
After being inspired by Andrew posting this blog, I spent a little time on line and ended up grabbing a few items from AirSplat. Seems like their offering free shipping if you spend over a certain amount.
Don’t forget to grab Action Essentials from Video Copilot! I just used a handful of effects from “AE2″ and Optical Flares and the client flipped. They loved it and the spot is now running.
http://tvforradio.com/?p=263
Thanks to Andrew Kramer for the inspiration, knowledge and tools!
Here’s some of my 2008′s work: it’s not exactly an action scene, though it has a great deal of action elements. It’s the opening sequence for a TV show called ‘El Sótano de Babel’ (Babel’s Basement). No After Effects whatsoever, just Premiere Pro 2.0 and Photoshop 6. http://vimeo.com/5376573
The second fight scene titled ‘worst fight scene ever’ is starring Siu-Wong Fan who just happens to also star in the highest grossing chinese movie of 2010 ‘Ip Man 2′.
Actually, if you look at his Muzzle Flare Tutorial, he says you only need to get an image of a muzzle flare, and you don’t need to get a spectacular program, such as ActionEssentials.
Freddie!! That dude rules!!
it does not always have to be pictureperfect…check this out
http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/974491/f2acdbb9/light_warfare.html
Mike,
Action Essentials is not a program, it’s a set of elements.
He uses Action Essentials, but he showed how to do it without the set in his tutorial.
I remember last week when this came out, i watched it like 4 times

oh and on his second channel theres a tutorial (he does use Action Essentials
Yep i Freddie has some mad skills
Everybody sub to him to make him Well known
This is, what he told about his effects:
How do you do blood effects?
Our blood hits are from our own personal library – red chalk dust against a black backdrop and composited in. You can very easily shoot your own versions of this with any sort of dust that you tint red in post production.
Nice one.
Here is a project i used “Action Movie Essentials 2″ in.
It is a reinterpretation of the “Quaterpounder” dialogue
from “Pulp Fiction”. We picked a war scenario.
http://www.vimeo.com/12472324
I’m sorry to have to say this. But Andrew Kramer didn’t invent action movies. While AK has made it easier to allow amateur film makers to make cool stuff, FreddieW is no amateur. He’s part of a small team that does effects.
He makes his own effects and muzzles and he specializes in sound design. And all though he uses some AE2 that isn’t what makes his films good.
It’s an attention to the craft. It’s knowing that fx don’t make a movie great.
I love you Kramer… but your fan club is killing me…
i saw this vid on youtube and he did you action essentials 2 for the muzzle flashes and blood
amazing. nice effects.
I love thes video thank you sow mush
look I try do that all the time
Respect from Russia! Guy Ricci smokin aside!)
Hi Guys !

Hi,
Impressive film look from Norway.
Using Canon Rebel T2i dslr, and Action Essentials.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66MWzGlv3fQ
These people do a great job in making the best out of nothing…
I was inspired and with the help of VideoCopilot I did my own version…with only 2 persons:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__pJqpWQRHg
cool the best thing ever!!!
He does use Action Essentials. If you look at his second channel it he has some small tuts; that’s actually how I found video copilot
