Free 12-Gauge Shell

Good news Thursday May 20th is my 4-year anniversary to my sweet wife so in celebration we’re giving away a free shotgun shell clip. No, we didn’t have a “shotgun-wedding” but we do shoot some of the extra toaster overs.

This high-resolution clip comes pre-keyed in 2-versions for fast or slow-motion; it also loops seamlessly. For help looping in AE Click Here.

I added the words “Elite Series” so that people would not question my shotgun shooting abilities.

Watch Sample Video (this version does not have alpha)

Download Free Clip (17 MBs)

Compositing Tips: Place animation over your footage and animate the rotation over time to give the shell more variation as it spins out. You might also try moving the pivot point closer to the metal so it rotates off-balance for realism.

If you like this clip be sure to check out our Action Stock Footage collection that features muzzle flashes, explosions and more spinning shells for .45 and .223 caliber brass.

May 20th, 2010 @ 11:41 am
Andrew: please help.
How, in AE, would you create a VFX where a hand goes through a glass window, then comes out, and the glass window closes on itself, no glass is shattered, no injury on hand. Like a finger going thru a bubble?
May 20th, 2010 @ 11:52 am
Happy Anniversary Andrew!
I noticed something, Winchester shell-cases doesn't rotate, they're ejected straight when you open the gun if i remember well. But probably i'm wrong.

For Asbir:
Simply create the glass in After Effects, when the hand passes the window create a mask around the hand and set it to subtract, when the hand is outside the window simply animate the Mask Expansion ultil the window is "healted".
May 20th, 2010 @ 12:08 pm

Happy Anniversary. May you both have many more together. I've enjoyed your tutorials immensely as well as your approach to compositing and want to thank you for sharing your work. Your attention to detail is what really sells the effects. Also, thanks for letting Sam actually use a weapon every so often, even though that can be a bit unnerving for the viewer.

Thanks for continuing to support the VFX community, Andrew. It's freebies like this and your tutorials that really do make VCP THE go-to place for anything After Effects. Thanks also for the great products at affordable prices. Many happy returns on your anniversary.

Wow! Congrats. I almost wish I could see the 3ds max source file to see what that looks like.

I still learning 3DS max and like to look at stuff people done and wonder how they do that.
