Awesome can’t wait for both. The idea of the preset network sounds awesome. Is it possible to make it for presets that aren’t for optical flares? say someone has a cool colour correction or something that involves the built-in components of after effects.

i dunno how but ive never been able to use suretarget. I end up animating everything on my own.
One more thing, just off the topic, I have never been able to use tracking in AE, I think tracking is possible only with a good HD camera, I have a panasonic SDR-H20. Plz advise. I learnt AE because of Andrew. Everyone is just so impressed with whatever I do on AE. All thanks to Andrew the friendly neighbourhood(a little too far) super hero. Thanks all the other guys who help this site run. All the other tutorial makers on other sites, you don’t know how many lives you change everyday. God bless you!!

Optical Flares — the first Social Networking plug-in

Hey,

Great idea about the community aspect of sharing presets for the Optical Flares…

But, I do think that you should release it now (if it’s ready) and then do a point release after xmas with the preset network.
Not only because I want to give you money now so I can play with the flares (and not wait until next year) but if you implement the network stuff now you’ll be swamped with support issues over the holidays and I suspect that you want to spend your precious time with the family instead!

The Preset Network will begin with Optical Flares but we will definitely look into other ways of utilizing it.

That looks interesting, although I have a few projects this month that would benefit greatly from some nice flares…

Also, your poll doesn’t work for me in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. Looks like a javascript error.

I really suggest releasing the product now, and doing the network as an update. I know that, at least for myself, this would work out a lot better seeing as the sooner I get this plug-in the sooner I make sweet lens flares.

Holy Carp ! That’s both awesome and sad. Awesome idea, but it’s too bad we have to wait a little more. I have a deadline for a project in… one month. It would have been waaaaaay better with some killer flares (it’s a “spacey” short film). Guess I’ll try to make a few myself for the moment.

Though I have some difficulties by adding a new target in the middle of a camera animation.

i dont really like suretarget, it messes up on me. usually ill make a rotation using it, but then it rotates the whole thing from begining to the end all the way through, i set keyframes, but it still screws up. optical flares should be nice tho

Thanks in advance for the services and knowledge you provide. As for the Preset Network, you should consider a piece of code that gathers presets that are very similar into groups, determine an average to act as signpost for that group of related presets and then provide +/- ranges on the various parameters. That would streamline the viewing and server end processes, as viewers wouldn’t be paging through endless similar looking presets. $0.02

Can you give some indication on when you will be releasing Optical Flares? As I am working on a project at the moment that would benefit immensely from the plug-in, as I am doing lots of manual flare work. I would pay through the teeth to have it as soon as possible it must be said. I don’t suppose you would be releasing a beta version soon, or are you still developing and extending it further?

You mentioned about releasing it sometime in November, is this still true? If so shall I hold off until it is release, or will I be waiting for a long time.

hey VC, you shold doa tutorial on how you made the picture for the ST2. it has great lighting and polished effects on the targets. this must be done in a 3d app and i ve been searching for these techniques and havent found what im looking for. could you guys help?

I can’t wait, literally… i’ve been holding out for flares that aren’t a million bucks, like from Saffire (which had it’s obvious and dirty hands all over Star Trek and Fringe), the past 3 projects have had to go without as Saffire Flares blow budget 3 times over.
