Sure Target 2 and Optical Flares Update!

In keeping with the habit of providing the most valuable FREE content and tools for After Effects on the net, we are making one of our favorite free presets even better! Sure Target, our fast, easy-to-use Camera animation tool is easier and more powerful with Version 2.

Version 2.0 features easy 1-click rigging and un-rigging, so you don’t have to remember technical details for setting it up in a pinch so you can concentrate on the design of your project. It even makes the layer 3D so you don’t forget! We have also included improved organic movement control as the camera moves through 3D space. Expect the update soon!

View Custom User Interface

Our upcoming product for creating next-generation 3D lens flares, Optical Flares is nearly completed, however I see an opportunity to make it even better with a little more time.

Optical Flares is capable of building amazing 3D lens flare presets with precise and realistic qualities. Now imagine the power of a free network where customers could upload and share these amazing presets online?

The Video Copilot Preset Network is a perfect solution to continue the spirit of the website of sharing and contributing knowledge and presets, as well as enhancing the value of the product. This will also allow the style of lens flares to evolve beyond the built-in presets as artists develop them.

With this in mind, we have decided to wait about a month to give us time to incorporate this preset network and improve the built-in preset browser to allow multiple collections to be loaded at once. This is an exciting new endeavor and we know customers will benefit even more from this amazing software plug-in.

Good work Andrew thanks :=)
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:49 pm
Wow Andrew -- I really like the community idea. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!

Have you seen the WW2 in HD series? The title screens for those make me think of the new product....if you haven't seen it you should check it out!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:49 pm
Sounds like a great idea Andrew.

Thanks for all of your help, you are the reason I got into After Effects.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:49 pm

Awesome, I think it is an exciting tool, by the way, congrats AK, u deserve our credits for making the things we do with your knowledge.

Thanks for it, and God bless you, your beautiful family and your awesome work.

November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:53 pm
I have no problem waiting for the preset network, its a great idea to include!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:53 pm
Awesome can't wait for both. The idea of the preset network sounds awesome. Is it possible to make it for presets that aren't for optical flares? say someone has a cool colour correction or something that involves the built-in components of after effects.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:55 pm
Well worth the wait. I'm sure we're going to see all sorts of lens flares popping up in TV Spots all around the world after this preset hits! Thanks AK.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:56 pm

If your mac is an INTEL MAC, you bet its 64 bit!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:56 pm
This is, once again ! a nice treat you are giving us Andrew.
will definitely use it a lot!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:56 pm
Great! can't wait. hope it comes out before Xmas?
November 23rd, 2009 @ 12:59 pm
WOow awsome man
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:02 pm

November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:02 pm
Surely this VCPN won't be limited to Optical Flares presets, right Andrew?

And any idea how costly it might be at this point? I'm just dying to support you guys, and this looks like a damned-good excuse to do so. :)
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:06 pm
That sure target text is awesome by the way, :D i can't wait for the awesome plugin optical flares. And i just wondering, are you use these flare technic on Fringe or you just do the title sequence ? (great tv show, especially title sequence :)) sorry for my bad grammar :(
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:06 pm
Awesome, Andrew. I had suggested a preset network a couple of months back when Optical Flares was originally announced. Maybe I inspired it or perhaps you already planned it, but either way, I'm excited!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:08 pm
Thanks for all you do andrew. god bless u
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:10 pm
Is there a way to make it so that the lens flare appears whenever a section of the picture turns a certain level of brightness?
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:14 pm
Looks AMAZING! I want to buy it for Christmas. Or when it comes out.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:18 pm
Wow the Sure Target 2.0 logo looks amazing. Did you use normal mapping on that Mr. Kramer :] Look forward to these coming!

November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:33 pm

Tanner .D
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:37 pm
That Looks Amazing keep up the good work!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:43 pm
i dunno how but ive never been able to use suretarget. I end up animating everything on my own.
One more thing, just off the topic, I have never been able to use tracking in AE, I think tracking is possible only with a good HD camera, I have a panasonic SDR-H20. Plz advise. I learnt AE because of Andrew. Everyone is just so impressed with whatever I do on AE. All thanks to Andrew the friendly neighbourhood(a little too far) super hero. Thanks all the other guys who help this site run. All the other tutorial makers on other sites, you don't know how many lives you change everyday. God bless you!!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:47 pm
love that warehouse render for the optical flares promo..
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:52 pm
Really looking forward to that! Greetz from Germany
November 23rd, 2009 @ 1:52 pm
Marco Wurz, I was just talking to Andrew, he said he was actually making a version for AVID but because you spelled "too" wrong at the end of your post as "to" your diabolical grammar has ruined your dream....

Its a bit harsh but Andrew has standards and you just didnt measure up this time... sorry buddy

Optical Flares -- the first Social Networking plug-in :)
Tobias Lind
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:05 pm

Great idea about the community aspect of sharing presets for the Optical Flares...

But, I do think that you should release it now (if it's ready) and then do a point release after xmas with the preset network.
Not only because I want to give you money now so I can play with the flares (and not wait until next year) but if you implement the network stuff now you'll be swamped with support issues over the holidays and I suspect that you want to spend your precious time with the family instead!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:13 pm
:o Wow, that's awesome Andrew! Always one step ahead! Will the presets network be for only for Optical flares or for everything? :D
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:14 pm
Well Phil "who taked to andrew" i want to hear it from himself ;)

November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:22 pm
Wow, this new plug-in will be so cool
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:22 pm
2 Great pieces of software. At least ones free so I can hopefully afford the other ;)

P.S, I'm expecting a sweet trailer for optical flares that will force me to find money in the vast empty tunnel i call my wallet.
Remington M
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:27 pm
Oh man, your killing me Kramer. All I want to do right now is give you my money!
But the online network sounds awesome, and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait....
Thanks for the update :)
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:29 pm
Is the preset network only for Optical Flares, or can users upload any preset to it?
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:33 pm
I can`t wait...
this is just awesome
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:34 pm
I am proud of you Andrew, another sign you really think about us by implementing a preset sharing network.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:50 pm
yeah president for california after schwarznegger maybe or president for america after obama :p haha good thought Mikko
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:53 pm
Andrew, the sure traget 2, will be a preset or a plug in?
November 23rd, 2009 @ 2:54 pm
Thanks for revolutionizing AE yet again! You've already saved us countless hours of work with your products and now you're kicking up the ante! We couldn't do this stuff without you!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 3:00 pm
The Preset Network will begin with Optical Flares but we will definitely look into other ways of utilizing it.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 3:10 pm
That looks interesting, although I have a few projects this month that would benefit greatly from some nice flares...

Also, your poll doesn't work for me in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. Looks like a javascript error.
November 23rd, 2009 @ 3:31 pm
Where do you get your inspiration from? :)
This is really amazing.
Keep it up man!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 3:52 pm
that's amaze me xD you arre the best and stay the best

November 23rd, 2009 @ 4:03 pm
I really suggest releasing the product now, and doing the network as an update. I know that, at least for myself, this would work out a lot better seeing as the sooner I get this plug-in the sooner I make sweet lens flares.

November 23rd, 2009 @ 4:27 pm
Yes, I too wish VC would go ahead and release the plugin, and then add the network later, but if they want to tweak some more, I can wait another month.
Dan Rosario
November 23rd, 2009 @ 4:40 pm

These tools are simply the best products on the market. I knew nothing of AE, despite reading material on the application. I've very left brain and needed hands on and visual lessons Your tutorials, products, free projects, and plugin have been a God send. I'm looking forward to buying Optical Flares and aquiring Sure Target 2.0. Amazing value and quality unmatched. Thanks for helping me learn AE and produce looks I never though I could.

November 23rd, 2009 @ 4:41 pm
sharing presets would be amazing !

November 23rd, 2009 @ 5:34 pm
Sure target UPDATE!? AUTO 3D!? HOLY MOLY FRIJOLES! That is awesome! Looking forward to it!

AND optical flares, definitely want that one too. Action Essentials, Designer SFX, and Pro Scores has been a very great value that I use in all my projects. Really looking forward to this new awesome content!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 6:12 pm
Andrew, when this internet tool was first "invented", this was what the "inventor-dreamers" had in mind! You are made of the right stuff my man!

That's awesome! However, I was really looking forward to using the flares plugin in a project in December. Looks like I might have to go Knoll after all :(

But if it means it'll be even better, then that's cool!
November 23rd, 2009 @ 8:44 pm
that preset network sounds really ambitious, I can't wait!! hopefully the holidays will be fortuitous enough to provide seasonal work so I can afford Optical Flares alongside the family Christmas presents
November 23rd, 2009 @ 9:56 pm

Wow Mr Kramer.. you really are generous to give this stuff for free. what a man! Thank you
November 24th, 2009 @ 2:14 am
Holy Carp ! That's both awesome and sad. Awesome idea, but it's too bad we have to wait a little more. I have a deadline for a project in... one month. It would have been waaaaaay better with some killer flares (it's a "spacey" short film). Guess I'll try to make a few myself for the moment.

... Or maybe, as suggested, release sooner and make an update !
November 24th, 2009 @ 2:20 am
When will release completed? =D

Bader Ahmed sez:
"One day we will hear that Adobe has aquired VC..."

Don't wish that Bader. That's what happened to the hyper-talented Serious Magic group.

Adoughbe killed everything except OnLocation, and now Mark Randall, Karl Soule and (the very strange) Karl Miller seem to be relegated to making incremental updates to the Adoughby Media Player and the occasional tutorial.

HEAVEN FORBID that the MEGA HYPER Talented VC group should suffer the same fate !!!

Don't even THINK it !!!!!
November 25th, 2009 @ 2:45 am

November 25th, 2009 @ 11:20 am
You don't seize to amaze me. Thanks
November 25th, 2009 @ 1:21 pm
i dont really like suretarget, it messes up on me. usually ill make a rotation using it, but then it rotates the whole thing from begining to the end all the way through, i set keyframes, but it still screws up. optical flares should be nice tho
November 25th, 2009 @ 2:04 pm
Will sure target 2 & optical flare will be selling before or on black friday? if so, will the prices go down?
November 25th, 2009 @ 2:12 pm
Wow man!.. This is wonderful!!!!
How knows can you teach us how to create a plugin....?
More ideas can "pop up"...heheh
Thanks for everything!!

November 25th, 2009 @ 3:30 pm
AWESOME!!! Thanks Andrew! You're an inspiration to us all! Keep up all the great work, Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas to you, your family and everyone at video copilot!
November 25th, 2009 @ 5:33 pm
Thanks in advance for the services and knowledge you provide. As for the Preset Network, you should consider a piece of code that gathers presets that are very similar into groups, determine an average to act as signpost for that group of related presets and then provide +/- ranges on the various parameters. That would streamline the viewing and server end processes, as viewers wouldn't be paging through endless similar looking presets. $0.02

Cheers all!
November 25th, 2009 @ 9:23 pm

Awesome stuff! By the way I was watching (or listening rather) the commentary for star trek, really interesting info but at the begining J.J. mentions you and I though "I know about that guy!" good work :)
November 26th, 2009 @ 9:37 pm
Wow, great idea with the VCPN. So people will be able to make their own lens flares and upload them, that's so sweet

November 27th, 2009 @ 12:33 am
Great work Andrew.
November 27th, 2009 @ 4:59 am

Crazy Tnx All = ))
November 27th, 2009 @ 1:23 pm
Hi Andrew

Can you give some indication on when you will be releasing Optical Flares? As I am working on a project at the moment that would benefit immensely from the plug-in, as I am doing lots of manual flare work. I would pay through the teeth to have it as soon as possible it must be said. I don't suppose you would be releasing a beta version soon, or are you still developing and extending it further?

You mentioned about releasing it sometime in November, is this still true? If so shall I hold off until it is release, or will I be waiting for a long time.

Best Regards

November 27th, 2009 @ 6:19 pm
wow! that's something nice to hear!
-thanks for the free SureTarget2.0

And for implementing such a cool feature to try out with a plugin like "OC" would be a great reason to be patient for a little longer ;)
November 28th, 2009 @ 3:19 am
hey VC, you shold doa tutorial on how you made the picture for the ST2. it has great lighting and polished effects on the targets. this must be done in a 3d app and i ve been searching for these techniques and havent found what im looking for. could you guys help?

November 28th, 2009 @ 4:09 am
if only all companys out there were like video copilot. The world would be a better place. I can't even try and think of a bad thing to say about you and your company. Generous, fair pricing, and great quick customer support, never give that up.
November 28th, 2009 @ 6:11 am
I really think you should break out a whole new website just for this idea. Trapcode did it with Trapcode People, which I thought was a great site, but unfortunately died.

How about :)

Anyway, you're onto something really great. I really like how you come up different solutions and are constantly trying to improve things. This is what makes Video Copilot so unique.

Thanks Andrew!

I can't wait, literally… i've been holding out for flares that aren't a million bucks, like from Saffire (which had it's obvious and dirty hands all over Star Trek and Fringe), the past 3 projects have had to go without as Saffire Flares blow budget 3 times over.

… i'm literally Chomping or COMPing at the bit for your awesome product to be unleashed but after todays' Optical Flare delay news, I simply shot a music video into the sun ;))

Big LOL…
