Optical Flares Poster

We are working hard adjusting the features for our new Lens Flare plug-in called Optical Flares but I wanted to tell you about some of the cool features . I’ve included some notes that might help you understand this plug-in better but expect a video presentation soon. We are still shooting for a “sometime in November” release.

I think it looks cool, but I just can't see how that product can be more expensive than AE2 720p?

Could you please tell me how, cause i want this plug-in really bad!
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:54 am
For me videocopilot becomes more and more professional. I mean, you even have a release poster:D I hope you get what I mean.

October 13th, 2009 @ 2:56 am
kind of expensive.... $140 is too much.
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:56 am
Oh by the way. Why is it 139 Dollars? I thought it would be just a small plug-in. But on the other hand, videocopilot never makes JUST something.

Hi Andrew,

please hurry up... I kindly need it in an upcoming project :p
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:44 am
Looks great! I think the best two things are the Auto Positioning and the Build realistic Lens Flares (it's from the poster). Can't wait to see more of it!
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:55 am
Can't wait to see it in full action.... thanks AK
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:59 am

Can you make an Tutorial: How to make the Hangar from Optical Flares Poster.
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:26 am
139 is a bloody bargin!
Alby Smith
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:31 am
too good to be true!
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:33 am
hey ..well its a cool product, but 140 bucks are too much for "only" a lens flare with some features .. even if you have written 50000 code lines but at the end i will have a lens flare plug in for after effects ...i think its somehow overpriced ..
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:33 am
Heh, this reminds me of the amount of flares in Star Trek (2009)! A very similar effect.
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:35 am
@ Liess Jemai

Dude you just make a couple of boxes, invert the normals and get some textures from www.cgtextures.com... pretty basic... yet effective!

@ Everyone

This is gonna be friggin awesome! Personally, I love lens flares, it is my belief that "Lens flares make the world go round". I've bought Red Giant's " Knoll Light Factory " and by just seeing this demo... I'm starting to think they tricked me off my money... :P. Still it's a good plug in, but does not have as many capabilities as Optical Flares does. I'm starting to thing that Video Copilot produces better plug ins that half of the plug in sites, such as Red Giant (in some areas, Particular and are two hell of a plug ins), but in Particle design, I think that Red Giant deserves an award :D.

Anyways, hope this will be cheap, coz it's a plug in... Twitch was one great plug in out of Video Copilot. Hope you hit the waters again with another AWESOMELY COOL plug in.

Regards, Alek Angelov from Macedonia!
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:38 am
allthough knoll effects is much more expensive still see this a little expensive too. (I bet you´ll boost sellings with a little lower price)
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:39 am
yes ,There is!
the greet poster
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:39 am
I'm guessing this is some thing that your very proud of, and considering the massive price difference between this plug-in and twitch (which was amazing) i take it that this is going to be an absolutely mind-blowing plug in.
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:40 am
The DVD box looks like a Final Cut Pro extention or new version! ;) Nicely done!

Andrew, did you create the entire background in 3D?
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:43 am
Reminds me of the BlackBerry/U2 Commercial... very nice work Andrew, although I did set my alarm 20 minutes early hoping for a new video blog... nothing like cereal with Andrew in the morning! Haha jk...but seriously... Maybe tomorrow. xD

October 13th, 2009 @ 4:46 am
I'm sure you won't complain about the price anymore once you see all the things you can do with it. I spend 950$ on Fumefx and all I get in the end is a fire. :)

October 13th, 2009 @ 4:47 am
The poster is really good. which softwares You used to compositely make it .Please tell me
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:52 am
from what I´ve seen in the preview this product will definitely be worth every cent. and with "definitely" i mean: absolutely no doubt!

give us the pre-order-link!
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:05 am
That's not very good.... HAHAHAHAH !!
I can't wait to buy man.

Thanks for your hardwork.
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:06 am
"Can't explain this one in sub-line. Just say good bye to static lens flares!" haha:D
I'm sure this plugin will be useful for many people and I wish you a lot of money from it:D

Greetings from Poland :)
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:18 am
The price is not that far off considering Knoll is $399. My only questions would be what are the main differences between Optical Flares, Knoll Light, and the standard AE flares. Another words what does Optical Flares have that sets it apart from the rest. I'm sure Andrew will give us a tutorial or something more (the preview looked like a winner to me) so don't sweat it. I'm sure it will be worth it. Heck, eveything else of VC's is that's why I own it.
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:18 am
You sure know how to make a poster look good. ;) Did you make it with AE or 3D max?
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:30 am
Nuuuuu.. cant wait for it!
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:37 am
is this plugi in the new star trek? or is just coincidence... rsrs
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:37 am
everyone who thinks that 140 $$ for a great lens flare plug-in is too much should
1. Check out Red Giant Software's "Knoll light factory"
and 2. stfu and be grateful that video copilot creates great and affordable plug-ins

thats all.
thanks VCP!
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:37 am
It seems a bit over priced for me. Although, I do not know what it includes exactly... Can't wait to see :)
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:41 am
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:44 am
What's the deal with my posts being moderated? :(
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:49 am
it costs way too much..

50€ deal :D
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:00 am
139.95.- it will be worth it.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:04 am
Can you make a tutorial on How to make the Hangar from Optical Flares Poster???

October 13th, 2009 @ 6:05 am
sweeeeeeet can't wait to get my hands on it!!
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:07 am
Guys, the cost reflects the 50,000 lines of code going into it. It's a more than generous price. If you don't like it, go shell out hundreds for Knoll Light Factory.................. that's what i thought.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:07 am
mmmm..yeah pretty cool but what this plugin do?
It does not very interest me.
Fabiano Peres
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:15 am
It looks better and more realistic than the avarage lens flare plugns on the market.
I hope I'm right.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:18 am
OK WoW..........just WoW, men when i grow up i want to be just like u.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:18 am
Hey Andrew!
Was the background for your poster created in AE or 3D Max. Cuz that background is Off the Screen! AWESOME!
Matt in MO.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:22 am
Considering Knoll Light Factory Pro costs $399, I see this as a great deal.

Maybe if Andrew can differentiate what makes his plug-in different than Knoll Light Factory, then I can effectively weigh the pros and cons. I don't want to pay less to get something that's not as powerful. However, if it is equal to Knoll Light Factory then I see it as a huge bargain.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:28 am
Fantastic! It will include dust particles and how they interact with the light! Will this be similar to the Ancient Titles Tutorial?
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:29 am
Itz great, im waiting !!!!!! :)
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:31 am
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:33 am
Can you please tell me with what software you made
you BG. It looks awsome.
Did you use 3d max or did you just do it with After effects ?
Please tell me
Thank you
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:33 am
Love your work but I agree with a few people that this may sound a bit expensive for a plug-in, but you have a way of showing the practicality of why people should have this plug-in so I won't say too much more than that until we see some tutorials of it's true power before making a verdict for myself. Good luck with the plug-in!
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:34 am
32bit FTW!!!! That's awesome, thanks Andrew!
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:35 am
What's the price?
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:42 am
thanks MR andrew

@Filmaker maybe the price 139 $
goood luck
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:42 am
Never mind I got the price. $140! For a plug-in for flares! You gotta be kidding me! Seriously! Come on! Twitch is also a plug-in that is $45 That is something everybody could afford for a plug-in! Andrew I love you and all but come on! Lower the price so everybody could by it! You know the old saying "The Lower The Price The More Money You Get."
Peris Bentrer
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:52 am
Andrew you are great, but I have to tell that your products are getting more and more expensive. I think this price and action essencial it´s too much. I hope it will worth it. Sorry for telling what some people around here think.

You should be like before, great and cheap.

October 13th, 2009 @ 6:52 am
Andrew, I know your website and products are predominantly for AfterFX users, but is there any way you could make the same product for Apple Final Cut Pro Suit users, i.e. Motion.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:54 am
Knoll light factory has a lot of variations in shapes and numbers of flares, we'll see what this optical flares is all about.
Other than that 149 it's not THAT much, considering what Kramer usually offers through this website...
You should stop complaining!
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:57 am
very cool i hope it's will be lesson with the filter how to create this poster when i buy it
thx ak
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:01 am
140 USD? oh geez, slowly we arriving the highprice segment :) But its cool. Its production qualified tools that shouldnt be cheap.
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:10 am
wow! that thing is expensive! :)
Brett Perry
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:15 am
Hey you guys stop carping about the price. Videocopilot offers all there products at a reasonable price. Twitch was a steal. If you like the sight and have learned something here for free, than support the sight. It costs real money to make all of what you see happen. Remember time is money. Products like Twitch and Optical Flares can save you time in your projects for clients and give you a competitive advantage. You go Andrew!
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:20 am
The texturing on that warehouse is awesome. I always dig the way your backgrounds look, and when you explain how you do them, showing fairly simple and logical ways of creating them, well, that's even better! ;) Made in Max right?
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:35 am
That's wonderful .. Waiting
thanks video copilot http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:39 am
$140 is pretty good considering knoll light factory is $400...
lens flares make everything better.... VCP makes everything epic.... this is gunna be good
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:46 am
Beautiful Poster.. Very creative. Is that price right?
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:47 am
Why are people complaining about the price? Andrew's work is always a good investment.
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:50 am
Apart from that being an awesome product, thats a pretty sweet poster! You should do some 3D tutorials on how to make things like that...
(Also for that bar graphs one)
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:55 am
Chromatic aberations??? Wow man, that's a pretty big word Bro! I had to look that one up:

As far as the price is concerned folks, and for everyone wanting to compare this to Knoll Light Factory or some other Lens Flare Plug-In, let me ask you this... mainly for those of us who sit around day in and day out "refreshing the page" to see what new "FREE" tutorial or preset Mr. Kramer has taken his time to develop, perfect, and share with us all - myself included. Is $140 really that big of a deal after all the other great things these guys offer us? Sure, you can get tutorials on some of the other sites, but many of them are showing you how to use a specific product so you will buy them. Most of what is taught here on this site is done with only After Effects (and occasionally Trapcode Particular). If I had to guess, many of us would probably not be where we are at today without some of the little "nuggets" that we get form the work of VCP.... for FREE. It's as if no one realizes what it takes to put something like this on. A new studio, a new baby girl, staff - I would like to think Loya gets paid a "little" for enduring all the pain and suffering of stuff like getting hit by a truck, getting injected with ravenous flesh eating bugs, burned up by fireballs, and Tito getting meteors fired at him while trying to play cards. This is not some dude sitting at this desk all day in an apartment with a freakin' sweet camera taking pictures of himself and saying "What's up, Andrew Kramer here for Video Copilot dot net" all day long.... or wait, maybe it is??????? All of those pictures of hime with his "wife and kids" may be photo-shopped??? ;)

Besides, it's a VCP product, of course it's gonna be suwweeeeet!
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:58 am
Goodness, I'm pretty disappointed at how many people could complain about $140. The portions that AK has shown us already in his preview vid are incredible and immediately cinematic quality, not to mention that his products are always way cheaper than they ought to be. Consider that the VCP crew, like always, have known what they're doing, and that the price they ask is easily going to be a mere third of what it would cost elsewhere. I'm very excited to see what this product offers, myself! Keep up the good work, Andrew!
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:02 am
very nice but it needs explain more bye thenk u
Frank Busch
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:03 am
Hey Guys,

come on... You always get the Tutorials for free. You get thousands of Tips for free. You get a lot of Jokes for free ;-)

And then you complain about 140 Bucks??? If you don´t have the money than use AE built in Lens Flares. I would buy it even for 199 Dollar ;-) So Guys cool down and save your Money for the Plugin... Cheers from Germany
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:12 am
plzzz come sooon.......
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:19 am
As other people have said, the price reflects comparative products, like Knoll Light Factory (which happens to be about $400). Also, this plug-in is of a higher, cinematic quality compared to Twitch. From the preview I saw, Andrew's optical flares looked almost identical to the ones used in Star Trek and Fringe (maybe the same...?), so in my opinion the $140 is a steal! You don't have to buy the plug-in if you don't think it's worth the cost, but don't come on here and complain about it.
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:23 am
so awesome, so so awesome....i love the title in 3D right above the features
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:32 am
..Waiting to have a go at it..
in btwn Loved the promotional poster :)

*Thumbs Up*
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:33 am
WOW that looks awesome! Wish I could afford that. :)
milton corniell
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:43 am
exlent design ufffff cute
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:44 am
@ Kael, I agree on all points.

this plugin just from what I read here, is much much more valuable than its price....

keep up great work Andrew, can't wait to play with this flares !

October 13th, 2009 @ 8:53 am
In some scenes of Star Trek (2009) I was really annoyed with the blinding off-scene optical flares. If used properly its a great look. I hope people who use this preset use it judiciously.
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:54 am
I wasn't complaining about the price btw, I've purchased every product from VC, and all Well Worth It. - Just curious so I can budget for it..
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:05 am
Andrew, you would definitely make people even more interested in this if you include a tutorial on how to make the Flare-transitions in your ActionEssentials2Promo. They look awesome!

Good job on this & the best from the Netherlands,

October 13th, 2009 @ 9:05 am
WOW! How cool that is. Looks Awsome. I like the picture. The price is a bit.....=)
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:10 am
Hum, I see several post have gone missing since this morning. Maybe I shouldn't have praised VC so much.
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:13 am
looks way too expansive.. but for real professionals it is a little shit ;)
October 13th, 2009 @ 8:15 am
maybe it's just me but..... isn't 139$ a little pricy for a plugin? I mean twitch is great and only 49. this is too expensive
Erik Berg
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:22 am
well, I see my christmas present =)

can't wait, only recently I've been using a lot of lens flares, but this might change my whole perspective on them, they felt so limited before, but after that preview tutorial you posted a few weeks ago, and now a release date, I can not wait. this will be my third video copilot purchase, and you guys haven't let me down yet.
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:26 am
thatz great , im waiting !!!
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:26 am
oh cool, i would pay even 2000 $
I LOVE U and i buy all ur stuff, money is no issue :)
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:33 am
The price is fine for a product like this. You nubs save up your lunch money and stop whinning! :D
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:36 am
Don't know why people are complaining about the price. It's a product from a business that needs capital to continue operating, and knowing the history of VCP, it'll be a very good product. Just use a VCP product for one client's job and it pays for itself. If you don't have client's, go get one. All sorts of people need good videos made for them.

The REAL problem is people who don't buy products but "share" them (a.k.a. steal), and not just VCP's stuff, taking away money from good companies (thus requiring them to charge more). Screws everyone over.

October 13th, 2009 @ 9:45 am
I am waiting :)
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:52 am
Nothing wrong with the price aslong it's good! 140dollar is still cheap compared to other plugins like knoll light factory.

Will buy it anyway, looking forward!
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:53 am
Yeah! Now i can make my version of STAR TREK! :)
Thanks Andrew this is cool as all the products you made
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:57 am
wow, this plug-in must be pushing it hardcore for it to cost more then the 720p version of AE2.

im just kind of a skeptic on people paying 140bucks for a suped up lens flare.

but, just like every other product u released, it should be awesome(but im definitely watching the demos before thinking of a purchase)
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:00 am
My daily routine goes like this ... I wake up and I take my laptop still in bed and I check
1. CNN
2. news.bbc.co.uk
3. videocopilot.net (Wishing additional cool stuff).

And then I go to take the morning piss and get on with my life. (May even do some breakfast) depending how late on the day we are.
Yes, that's how much we love Andrew's creations and I think he cannot produce them fast enough. Hey Andrew ... imagine. More content, more $$$.
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:07 am
wounderful just waiting for it to come out
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:17 am
I have one thing to say about the price:

If you can;t pay for the plugin, you either don't have clients that need this type of effect and you just want something to enhance your youtube videos or you aren't charging enough. The type of project that would require this type of plugin should easily give you enough profit to buy the thing. Do us all a favor people and stop complaining. Pro tools should be at pro prices and this plugin is clearly a deal. This one plugin could easily differentiate you from your competitors and land you even more work, so stop complaining and either buy it or don't.

I for one will be buying immediately upon release!
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:19 am
It is a little bit much $140, i mean i,m a student come on.

I think i will wait till 2020 till the product is free;)

by the way, NICE Poster, nice effect form the plugin itself, and the bg is a pic i gues you took it in your garage;)

Piece out.
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:23 am
I want a T-Shirt, Lol.
BTW, The whole Poster is awesome!
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:27 am
Damn, is it THAT good?
nah, Im just being an ass, Im sure its awesome, and I cant wait! ^_^
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:32 am
What a bargain. Auto tracking hotspots....awesome. caqn't believe you guys are complaining about the price. You can buy every VCP product for what Knoll Light Factory costs and pretty sure this plug-in is gonna be 5 times better.
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:32 am
140 bucks isn't a bad price for something like this. There is so much potential for this plug-in and I'm sure it will be well worth it. Though, it is kinda weird to think that a VCP plug-in is going to cost more than 720P AE2. I'll gladly pay 140 for it when I have money.
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:42 am

October 13th, 2009 @ 10:43 am
Awesome =) Just awesome :D
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:01 am
I think too much of you guys were spoiled by AE2. :) If the product can deliver anywhere near AE2, then it's a bargain considering some of the pricey alternatives.
Luis Felipe Vasquez
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:04 am
that's pretty helpful
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:08 am
Cool Bananas...140 bucks is great value.
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:13 am
Realy nice. And i see a big list of features. Now i will wait until you show us all the power of this nice plugin. And dont understand why all talking about the price. The price is ok!
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:27 am
Andrew, you are paving the way to the future.

Good Job.

Ok, for some of you 140 Dollars are much, but always keep on mind that this is really professional. You can create the look seen in so many movies before. Ans like some of you said before, just look at the prices for stuff from RED Giant. And videocopilot is so much easier to use, better looking, and think how much you always get for free at videocopilot. All the free tutorials or great Blog entries.

October 13th, 2009 @ 11:37 am
140 is cheap for a plug-in !! Red Giant Software and Boris Fx will be twice as much and they dont come with cool tutorials by Andrew K. ;)

If you can afford the Adobe Suit (3G's) you can afford a 140 dollars for a great plug-in.

(and you can just build it to the first client you use the effect for, under Others...$ 140 )
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:47 am
Looks really nice!
I´m looking forward to the release.

October 13th, 2009 @ 11:48 am
Alright, I'll jump in here :)

Making high-end products affordable is always our goal and it seems like many of you understand this price point, especially compared to alternatives. Now I also noticed a few people that expressed concerns so let's talk about it. I think this website has always been about communication and being straight forward about what we do at Video Copilot.

Here's the deal about our pricing structure for big software plug-ins like Optical Flares VS stock footage.

In a nut-shell, when we release a stock footage product like Action Essentials, we are done developing for that product, the footage can be used NOW and in the future.

However, with big software plug-ins, they require updates to be made, fixes & keeping up to date with New versions of After Effects and probably other things along the way. When we release this product, we will continue to develop and keep it up so we need ongoing contracts with our developers. The work on software never stops after it is released. Unless it is some cheap program for converting DVDs to Ipod. JK

Obviously I don't develop plug-ins myself so we are working with some experienced programmers that have helped realized an amazing concept.

As for comparing this plug-in to Twitch... Let's just say: we BUILT-IN a basic form of Twitch for making flickering light on the flares :)

Lens flares add a very slick quality to motion graphics and a natural finish with CG compositing so things do not look sharp and perfect, we believe this plug-in is a major leap forward and I'm confident you guys will see all the hard work and detail built-in to this tool. Until then!
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:50 am
Too expensive? Take a look around the internet at what else is available and you will change your mind.
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:02 pm
soon i will buy it......:-)
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:09 pm
Looking nice, unfortunatly I probably wont buy this but looks awesome never the less.

The reason its $140 is because it's a professional plugin.

You look at Trapcode Flux/Particluar etc, their $300/$400 each!
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:15 pm
I like the idea, good sample of this plug-in will be in Star Trek movie. Full of lens flares ! because on Space, they will be lots of them, everywhere your camera point.

And that is the problem with filming on Space.
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:19 pm
when is "soon"?
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:19 pm
That sounds really good!!! Hope it'll be better than plugins we get from the net!!! XD
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:33 pm
This is great. Knoll Light Factory is also great, but it hasn't really added new features in a VERY long time, because there was no competition; no reason to innovate.

I've been trying to get KLF to create proper anamorphic flares for years, and had to resort to some crazy expressions and layer masks and transform operators to get it to work. This plug-in looks to do it out of the box, which is fantastic, and an answer to my prayers.

$140? That's absolutely outrageous! Outrageously CHEAP. $140 is nothing for an AE plugin, that's a WONDERFUL deal. Don't complain about that...geez.

Andrew, I will be buying this the very first day it comes out, which reminds me...will it be downloadable, or will it ship in the mail on disc? I ask because I want to play with it the moment it's available!
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:36 pm
Thanks for giving it in november...im savying money!!1 :-D
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:39 pm
Come on ppl! 140 USD is a very good and low price point. Look at the most direct competitor, the Knoll Light Factory - 400 USD for that!

Thanks VideoCopilot - can't wait for the release.
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:41 pm
omg *--* very nicee andreww
October 13th, 2009 @ 12:54 pm
thats very nice n expensive tool but it looks gr8
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:20 pm
I'll admit, I kind of jumped in fear when i first glanced at the price... but then i instantly remembered that's super cheap for an awesome AE plug in!!! And from a awesome site where one can get awesome free training!!!
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:25 pm
Did you model the warehouse in the poster yourself?

Haha, cheers, Jay.
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:33 pm
Cool poster, Andrew! :) ;)

October 13th, 2009 @ 1:43 pm
I know... why doesn't Andrew just make a free tutorial on how to create really cool After Effects plug-ins! Then we won't need him at all and we can have everything for free!
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:44 pm
So long time reader first time writer, and I got to say, I have always loved this site and appriciate everything that goes on here. I'm a graduate film student struggling to pay my school bill right now and my initial reaction was definitely a gasp when I saw the price, but then after I went back to breathing normal I realized how cheap it was in comparison to other products. So..... I thought I'd throw out the idea of possibly releasing a trial version with a watermark or something so that people like me who will have to work for months to pay for something even as cheap as this can still have the joy of using this amazing plugin. Again just a thought, take it or leave it, but I for one would be filled with thanks if you did.
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:45 pm
"Did you model the warehouse in the poster yourself?

Haha, cheers, Jay."

Remember, he said he was going to post a picture of his new office? Well, this is it!
October 13th, 2009 @ 1:51 pm
Any chance you will be releasing this as an open fx plug-in too?
I use both AE and Nuke and would love to be able to use optical flares in both packages.
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:21 pm
Andrew, you didn't have to respond about the pricepoint, you have to realize that most of the people here are kids that use after effects to make kamehameha's and hadokens come out of their hands.
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:41 pm
pretty insane...
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:57 pm
For those saying it costs too much...

Selling concessions at high school football games might not be the quickest way to acrue necessary software funds.
October 13th, 2009 @ 2:58 pm
could be some critics?
just a lil bit... *sorry*
that render looks noisey *shame*
i was always so proud of your pix or whatever... think you`re kinda busy to render it awesomer)))

however, you`re still great and etc...
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:00 pm
If any of them understood the work that had to go into the bloody things they would think twice about slating this rather cheap but powerfull looking plug in.
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:02 pm
Okay andrew. I see your explination, but I am still wondering how this plug-in on just making lens flares in 3d space, can be that more expensive to a plug-in like twitch, which allows you to scale, boost, split, blur, tweak etc. your footage?
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:04 pm
And i don't know if that is the only way of using this new plug-in, but you really haven't shown us anything else...
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:24 pm
So, is this the plug-in you've been using for lens flares in product promos? Like in the Pro Scores promo?
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:38 pm
Hi Andrew

Just wanted to give my support for the price. I think it is a bargain compared the amount of money you can spend on products like Knoll Light factory, and especially considering the support you provide for your products.

Not to mention the many other plugins such as Sapphire and Tinderbox stuff that costs a small fortune. People who buy AE plugins know this is a very good price and coupled with your excellent quality and polish you always give your products it is even better.

This is one product I will definitely be buying.

Keep up the good work!
October 13th, 2009 @ 3:45 pm
Is the building in the poster 3d? or is it a picture?
Nicolas Chapleau
October 13th, 2009 @ 4:31 pm
I think it's Too cheap, I'll only buy it if it's $240 or more, with the CND dollar being so high and all ;-)

Now all I need with all these wonderful products of yours is a plugin that comes up with original ideas...I'm all out!
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:17 pm
Very nice and eye catching poster Andrew, i'll be buying it for sure!
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:35 pm
Niceeeeeeeee Desing... i like it! Greetings from Venezuela
October 13th, 2009 @ 5:53 pm
Nice plugin. The ultimate anamorphic lens flares! I'm going to be in heaven. A tut on how you made the hangar would be amazing (time consuming too, I'm sure). Thanks again for all that you do for the AE community.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:23 pm
Come on guys ... $140 is a bargain if this plugin does what we expect it will. Lets not forget why we're here in first place. We are here because we love Andrew's creations and $140 VS. other or similar plug in's is a really good deal. The truth goes like this ... you get what you pay and I'm sure Andrew has gone trough this several times before setting the price. I truly believe that all Andrew's products are very affordable and you get more bang for your buck than Guns & Ammo. I think that those who think that the price it's too much ... there is another interesting place where you might get cheaper solutions. Try www.acehardware.com.
October 13th, 2009 @ 6:26 pm
Looks like a great product, consider it purchased.

If you're whining about the price: You'd probably drop $140 on a pair of shoes or jeans without thinking about it.

Video Copilot gives away hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in free tutorials. Factor that into the price and you're still ahead...sheesh!
October 13th, 2009 @ 7:14 pm
Absolutely fantastic. I just got KLF and can't wait for this to come out as I'll be buying it as soon as it is released.

Excellent work as always, AK and team!

October 13th, 2009 @ 8:08 pm
new bundles featuring this plug-in....? maybe?
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:00 pm
Hey andrew, will this lens flare plugin be able to affect regular lens flares or bright spots that are already on the screen. Like Magic Bullet Looks's anamorphic lens flares?

In MB, a lens flare stripe can be set to automatically come from the highlights or the brightest parts of a scene. It would be really cool if you could make yours do that.
I know there are ways to do it, without the plugin, but it would be a pain in the but. Please reply if you can!
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:06 pm
Good the less people who buy this the better I look when using it...can't wait

Well well, anyone of you can try to make a plug-in with 50.000 lines of code, then let us see at which price will you sell ))
October 13th, 2009 @ 9:30 pm
It's not the the amount of lines of code that matters, it's what they do that counts. With that said, I'm going to be buying this. My lens flares are going to have lens flares. I can't wait to make an entire video of lens flares!!! Oh yeah!

October 13th, 2009 @ 10:20 pm
Hi Andrew,
First of all, the plug-in seems very promising so keep up the great work. I have one doubt though, is it possible to create lens flare plugin with built in transparency?

So I don't have to change transform mode and the plugin interactively renders flare on a specific position of the layer. When animating I don't have to move the layer instead I animate the flare point.

I am just wondering whether it could be possible or not.
October 13th, 2009 @ 10:05 pm

Well Put ;)
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:15 pm
140 dollars for that kind of a plugin is really cheap! Think of all the extra projects and happy clients you get with this tool.
October 13th, 2009 @ 11:42 pm
$140, that's a great deal. Think of it this way, if Adobe made this plugin, the price would probably be 5 times as much as this one with half the quality. LOL Then you would have to buy their training manuals as well.

Great job ANdrew, looking forward to this release!

October 14th, 2009 @ 1:13 am
Looks sweet! I own Knoll Light Factory and will be buying this for the 3D functionality alone. I bet we will be seeing some more killer plugs coming from VCP in the future.

to Rahul, you can download Red Giants/Knoll's Unmult plugin for free and it does just that.
October 14th, 2009 @ 1:37 am
yeah, looks sweet, def gonna buy it. its pretty cheap relatively to other after affects plugins like knoll and trapcode. p.s. andrew, you better put some great tutorials in that optical flares pack :)
October 14th, 2009 @ 3:38 am
Thanks Crumpy for the link, It would be great if this plugin have that feature inbuilt :)

Hope I am not asking too much for this price.
October 14th, 2009 @ 3:54 am
so sweety....thanks
October 14th, 2009 @ 3:57 am
It has several rendering modes including unmultiply... :)

October 14th, 2009 @ 5:07 am
Hi Andrew,

Can't wait for this product. I recently purchased twitch and I'm always finding new ways to incorporate it into my work. Keep up the awesome work, I visit this site on a daily basis after gmail and facebook!

October 14th, 2009 @ 6:02 am
After Andrew's explanation, I don't doubt the price anymore.
October 14th, 2009 @ 6:23 am
Well... The price ain't cheap. But if this is what Andrew wants for it. It will most certainly be worth it. Andrew has been known to sell all his stuff at good prices. So ill expect the same from this one. Even though its 140 bucks. I will buy it.

superb product, ive been waiting for something like this for a long time now.

Keep it going Andrew
October 14th, 2009 @ 7:49 am
this is all well and good, but when's the "stereo sound preset-plug-in-thing" coming? you know what i mean...
October 14th, 2009 @ 8:03 am
For all you people complaining about the price (I know it's not that many) I challenge you to find products of a higher (or equal) quality for the prices that videocopilot asks.

I'll save you some time... you wont...
October 14th, 2009 @ 7:08 am
If they sold it for 300$ (witch they should so he has more money to make free tutorials) I would still buy it the day it came out. It looks great with dynamic flares and all. I think he should make it so you can use knoll flare files in it :)
October 14th, 2009 @ 8:34 am
Andrew you rock.. I learned AE Because of you, and now I've started working with it (ang I even get payment!)..
The first thing I'll do with my paycheck is repay you back a little for being greater a teacher than all teachers I have in my design class put toghether.. Course I'll get optical flares.. 140 is just less than .003 bucks per line of code! That's just cheap.. I'll get some other products as well.. Don't bother about the ones who complain about you or price, 'cos no one gives that much for free as you do, and we even have loads of fun with you.. and that's got no price.. Thank you so much for being so great a guy and thanks for creating Copilot, I'll be lost without it!..
I wish you and your family the best from Argentina!
October 14th, 2009 @ 9:13 am
i love my teacher Andrew Kramer i wish to be link you
October 14th, 2009 @ 9:33 am
I'd pay $140 for something like this anytime, $140 is cheap for a professional-grade plugin. I have knoll light factory which is awesome, and expensive.
October 14th, 2009 @ 10:56 am
it's come to my attention that your very talented and and great resource for free ideas and tutorials. So how dare you charge for a high qulaity /slick awe inspiring/50,000 lines of code/total kick ass looking optical lens flare/when do I have time for my family/let me continue to make free tutorials/I'm a charity/ After Effects plug in, oh and wait, charge 150.00 for it! C'mon man thats outrageous!!!

I expect to pay at least 800.00 for a plug in that I'll only use once or twice and forget all the parameters the next time I use that...

Unfortunately some people don't get it!! Mate, keep up the excellent work and you are an inspiration to all those who totally understand.

Cheers, and yes I will be making an order...so hurry UP!! :)
October 14th, 2009 @ 11:47 am
release date plz :D?
October 14th, 2009 @ 12:19 pm
good news,ur great andy
October 14th, 2009 @ 12:24 pm
this looks great andrew. you're quite the entrepreneur.
October 14th, 2009 @ 12:29 pm
I was thinking about getting "Knoll Light Factory", now I found out about this promising plug-in and will probably end up getting this one. The price is awesome (way cheaper than Koll) and the results are stunning.

Any plans for a Trial?
October 14th, 2009 @ 1:01 pm
hey i was wondering if you used optical flares in the AE2 trailers, but i can't wait to buy this, man this looks so sick! :D i have already bought all your products ( except the season thing)

also i was wanting more info on the action sounds product you talked about :) i really really can't wait for that :D maybe you should write a blog thing about it? anyway your the best thank you for everything :)
Derrick van Niekerk
October 14th, 2009 @ 2:28 pm
nah, I've seen better posters... only kidding, it looks very cool.

$99 would roll of the wallet alot easier, he he. But somehow I think this plug-in would be worth every sent of $140.

October 14th, 2009 @ 2:35 pm
$140 is nothing, Andrew gives us amazing tutorials for $0.00. I swear, it's amazing what you people demand out of those that do us favors. I'll gladly pay $140 for this just as I've paid for everything else I've bought from Andrew and Video CoPilot.

You whine enough and Mr. Kramer might grow weary and stop giving away so much of his knowledge. Just something to think about.

If you can't afford it or don't want to pay for it.... don't.
October 14th, 2009 @ 2:46 pm
Looks good, just got to save up first :)
October 14th, 2009 @ 2:52 pm
$140 for a plug in of this quality from a small company with this kind of reputation? thats a bargain. but its not just the plug, its all the tutorials and training on this site as well. its like going out to have pizza, paying $25 dollars for a really good large cheese, but the pizza joint also has free roller skating and a movie on the jumbotron...

keep it up broham.
October 14th, 2009 @ 5:04 pm
Very cool... i'm assuming this is the effect you used throughout the Star Trek movie??? Cool!
October 14th, 2009 @ 5:39 pm

October 14th, 2009 @ 10:42 pm
Hey greetings Mista Kramer...fae bonnie Scotlando. 100% support for your pricing of products, worth every penny, cent or euro. Most of us would be still scratchin our nappers with out your support and help..if you consider most of your time is spent giving us all FREE tutorials.

Keep up the great work!!!

October 14th, 2009 @ 11:30 pm
It makes the perfect gift :) I know , these products are great ! It takes your work to the next level no matter what skill level you are at . Plus these products support your friendly neighborhood tutorials .
October 15th, 2009 @ 1:03 am
I like the Lens Flare on the word "only"! :-)
No really, I love your work Andrew. And the price is much lower, than of other comparable products.
October 15th, 2009 @ 2:09 am

October 15th, 2009 @ 2:49 am
Hey there

Love the tutorials and all the plug-ins very cool

I´m from Portugal... just wanted to ask if you will be posting soon a tutoial on Matte Paintings in 3D geometry.. And compositing a scene with that matte painting..

We need a good tutorial on this..

I have posted a video on you tube.. but it´s not that good..

You can check it out.

the video is call "Air Ship Matte Painting"

Keep up the great work
October 15th, 2009 @ 3:10 am
It's been said a million times but here's my tuppence...

$140 is competitively priced for a professional plug-in. If you are not a professional and just doing motion graphics as a hobby then yes this may not be something you need instantly, so don't buy it, maybe save up for it, buy it for yourself with your christmas money.

If you are a professional, with a list of clients and projects to complete, $140 is an investment, spend money to make money. I've used Twitch on a project and it added professional quality, so the $50 was well spent.

October 15th, 2009 @ 5:25 am
Oh My GoD !!!!! IT Wonderfullllllll
October 15th, 2009 @ 5:30 am
Haha nice, can't wait to see what else it can do! First thanks for everything you do, Andrew. I first started learning AE from coming here Just a couple years ago, and it's a great site for tools and education. You know how to teach while also making it fun, which makes me want to learn even more, as well as explore different uses for the fx you teach. If/when I can I will certainly look into getting this plug-in =)

Poster looks smooth btw =).
October 15th, 2009 @ 5:59 am
hey guys, copilot team!

i expected so much from this plugin! chromatic aberration will be kick ass to play with it, but what else? sphérical aberration? interferance from solid/liquid? as say previously anamorphic lens flares? prism? diffraction effects? (i'm optical ingenier and i started Ae few day ago!)
October 15th, 2009 @ 6:00 am
andrew, you can just do about anything in after effects! well done!! now... more importantly, can you give me a preset so AE CS4 can make me a cup of tea?! lol
October 15th, 2009 @ 6:12 am
Hey the price is not to high this is a considerabal price if you take a look out there for a flare plugin the only reason its under 130-150 is cuz lets put it simply C.R.A.P

Andrew did a good job on this plugin and im willing to accept the price he gives out, and it wouldent hurt for you to do a little extra work and get your Butts off the X-box and make some honest money you probrably have no idea how much work it takes to make a great plugin like that certainly more that 150 bucks worth.

P.S. No hard feelings
October 15th, 2009 @ 8:44 am
I'm excited for this plug in!!! But will it be avalible for Final Cut users? (i don't expect so... but you never know). I'm looking forward to this video copilot work of artistic genius!!!
October 15th, 2009 @ 2:09 pm
Why are my comments being edited? I didn't swear.
October 15th, 2009 @ 2:15 pm
It looks great, reminds me alot of the new Star Trek film, there were alot of lens flairs in that...
October 15th, 2009 @ 2:16 pm
and ofcourse by flairs I mean flares lol
October 16th, 2009 @ 1:19 am
I only read a few comments but one I completely agree with is Nico89-fx's comment.

I'm in this contest right now and hopefully I win if I do I'm definitely buying this plug in and riot gear.

can't wait!
October 16th, 2009 @ 1:54 am
You price haters out there need to try to make your own plugin, then come back here crying about how much it should cost! I can't afford it now either. But, I WILL (or maybe I'll just bill it to a client.) And when I do you can be DARN sure I'm going to scoop this truly awesome plugin up. Keep up the GREAT work Andrew, and charge what you want. You have certainly earned the right for all the FREE tuts you GIVE to the world. Sheesh, it's hard out here for a PIMP.
Keep Pimpin' AK!
October 16th, 2009 @ 9:20 am
Sorry if this is addressed somewhere else, but will this plugin be Mac-compatible? And will it be written only for AE CS4, or will it run on earlier versions of AE? Thanks!
October 16th, 2009 @ 10:04 am
I've been messing about with the lens flare a bit lately so I'm exciting about this new plug in. The standard lens flare doesn't give you a whole lot play with. $140 works for me. Well worth it IMHO.
Keep up the great work VCP!
October 16th, 2009 @ 11:41 pm
hi,i am shuva from bangladesh. Thanks for your upcoming new plugins i am waiting.

please guys. I'm begging. When this comes out I'm really hoping that you guys just don't regurgitate optical flares into every piece of work you do.

I can't stand seeing demo reel's of Andrew Kramer's work anymore.

$140? that's cheap compared to $400 for KLF....

and KLF don't do 3D too (it needs workaround to attach it to 3D lights)

Hi there!

I'm still curious to, WHEN? I can't wait any longer, do you guys have a prel. release date.
I seriously think that this is one of the best plugins since particular. Been having wet dreams of beautiful lens flares in AE ever since Fringe was aired.

Great work you guys. This is truly awesome, keep it up.

For those who were discussing it, the lens flares in Star Trek were shot ON set. They beamed spotlights directly into the camera lenses.

There were a lot of purely cg scenes with flares.

And as i said in other flare comment "Star trek" was really overflared.
I guess director liked this effect way to much.

So again did Andrew work on flares in "Star Trek"? Or he just did the titles?
I know curiosity killed someone but dam i am curious :)
