BREAKING: Free News Templates

Here are some free news templates I created for After Effects CS3. Now you can have realistic news crawlers that don’t make your movie look fake. Just be careful what you write, people will believe anything.

Download Project File

Instructions: Full HD resolution, just place on top your footage, resize and edit headlines. AE CS3 only. Although I included the PNG file with now headlines, so if you need you can add your own…

Oh, by the way, just a little late night tip from me:
If you want the clock to work, rather than a standard static text, there is a effect called Numbers. (Effects>Text>Numbers). That effects creates a text which can do a bunch of things (including a functional clock). I think that's a great effect to use with these great templates, for the ultimate mind blowing realistic result.

Dude, I sooo needed this like a month ago, I have a show called the nightwatchmen chronicles wich entales some night time security guards just annoying eachother and there was an episode I did that took place as a news broadcast and I did my own template and it was no where near as cool as your templates. But now that you posted these up I hope you dont mind that I use them in future episodes. But in case you want to know, I do use on your text projects as my end credits platform for all my episodes. But either way thanks for these projects man they really come in handy. Keep up the bad a%$ work
July 9th, 2008 @ 10:26 pm

Enormous thanks, Andrew. I had to finish a short for this week, and it involved some fake news inside.

Now I can add extra value to my short.

Thanks!

Your too funny Andrew, you got sense of humor. I love it. Thank you!
July 10th, 2008 @ 1:46 am
Nice One. I started work a couple of months ago in an upcoming African news channel. Its been a hell of a workload as there is lots of different programs and features all needing there little look. for the news though they required something abit more conservative and simple compared to your amazing Starship Troopers-esque graphic. The reason we keep it simple is because we have to live key the show on a V.T machine. So all in-house graphics can't be sophistacated as the machine is...well simple. And you have to code the animation into it. So I stay well clear.

and it seems like after the tutorial 51 all can not access, do yo know how is happened, please fix it, if you could do it for me, not for me, it's for all the fans of you!

This is awesome! I'm in need of this particular effect right now actually. Still I have to ask . .

Why only in CS3? Was there some ability that it offered that 7 could not do? I only ask because I had thought you said at an earlier time that you were sticking with doing things in AE7 because more people had it and you can always open older projects in newer versions of software.

Can some one with both convert this into AE7?

Quick Question: How do you resize everything to a smaller comp? - I've tried "transform, fit-to-comp" but the layers are too big.. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Andrew! Great stuff! Will use it soon!

1st - It's royalty-free?

2nd - If it's not too difficult, and if it won't take you a lot of time, can you make a AFX7.0 version please?

Even if you don't do it, thanks a lot for this free stuff - great work, keep going with your site!

Hi Andrew,

Looks great will definatly find a use for these! Recently made a video of "President Bush's Final Address" its one of those mouth movin ones, should be on youtube soon. Yeah I know, it sounds like a plug but point is I made a CNN banner for it which took ages! Then just precomposed it and rendered out with alpha info so it could be looped! Thanks for these, much better than mine!!

Just watched the new show FASTFORWARD. In scenes where fictional news shows are seen on TV sets, all are using both of the above Video Copilot presets. What I'd like to know is if Andrew was involved with this show... or if they just used the free preset from this site. I'm guessing the later. Very cool, though! Rock on!

Hey Andrew,

I am rookie to AE, and your site has been awesome for me getting my feet wet. I really could use these templates, but I am using AE in CS5 and nothing pops up when I open the AE file for this project. I am working on a special drama production for my church and this is the perfect template for my needs - can you give me any suggestions?

These are awesome custom Lower Thirds. The first one was my inspiration for a CNN Lower Third. I ended up making an entire CNN The Situation Room set with Lower Thirds and the studio. The project file is on video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv05mz0ahNw

Awesome work Andrew!

I just watched this amazing short that just came out from Ruairi Robinson (http://vimeo.com/21216091) and I immediately recognized your lower thirds project file utilized in the background news broadcast.

Beautiful CG and seamless compositing in his video and he's obviously a VideoCopilot student.

Keep it up, Andrew!

Hey Andrew,

This is some really great stuff and would be perfect for our low budget movie. Would it be possible for you to grant us permission to use it in our film? Maybe you could email me something granting permission? We could give you a credit in the movie if that would be of any interest to you?

Thanks!

Andrew,

Firstly, this is beautiful. Second, I imported this into AE CS5.5. I am new to AE so maybe I am just being naive, or CS5 is too advanced??? but anyway, I rendered the movie as is, but the crawler doesn't crawl.

How can I get the text to move? Also,is it hard to get the time to update every minute? Obviously I don't have a Chyron machine but I like the simulation, as I am doing a faux new video so I can learn the makings of Premiere and AE by doing the green screen and the whole shebang.
