Upcoming Tutorial

Well we are approaching tutorial number 50 and I figure I’d better make it a good one. With the Halloween on the way, I think I’ll be doing an effect where a bug or something creepy is crawling under the skin. It will be all done in After Effects so I’ll need some more time to experiment and get it right. We’ll probably go shoot some footage of Sam getting infested today or tomorrow.

Take some time. I believe in you! :-D
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:29 am
Cant wait! look forward to that! Must be wonderful to have so much control over after effects, tame the beast so to speak.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:31 am
Genius :)

My first comment here, but i just LOVE your tutorials :)
Big thanks from Norway, Andrew :)
Keep up the good work

EXCELLENT!!! Can't wait!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:41 am
I can't wait!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:41 am
lol, way to keep with the seasons =D

If you've ever seen the movie "the mummy," there's a part where a guy has a bug crawl in through his boots and crawl up his body. Basically looks like a lump moving around in the guys body. But I was thinking, after watching the face warp tut, you could probably achieve the effect by applying the same concepts. Motion track, and then move the lump by using the pinch/punch effect.

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with, haha.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:43 am
Awesome, cant wait to see it.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:46 am
Your probably right Scott, I'll find something else to do.
Some Guy
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:47 am
@Judd: Yeah, "The Mummy" was the first thing that came into my head as I read Andrew's post. I think Andrew will bring it to the next level and not just make another tutorial with the face warp technique.

PS: Now I understand people, who try to make the first post. lol
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:48 am
maybe a talking jack-o-lantern...
Some Guy
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:52 am
Wow, that's even better! But whatever you'll do it will be great, because it's tut number 50! Yeeha!!! :-D
October 23rd, 2007 @ 11:58 am
How about the flying Evil Spirits like when they opened the ark in Indiana Jones?
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:02 pm
Lol. Stick with the bug please! Scott can close his eyes
Josh Johnson
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:05 pm
Scott it's not always about the "subject" of the tutorial it is the technique that you can learn an apply to your films/videos.
Scott Bishop
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:05 pm
Look forward to it, Andrew!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:12 pm

Looking forward to it Andrew! Keep up the good work :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:28 pm
Duuuuuudeg, if this ends up being what u say it is, that'll be so cool... this effect along with the demon face tut. would make for a pretty cool "infected movie!

PS- by the way I wanna see more blood and gore tutorials if its at all possible AK. Maybe something where someone gets their arm chopped off or whatever. I dont know, Let's see something for the horror fans!

October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:29 pm
I bew Sam will be PROUD pf having digital bugs nder his skin :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:29 pm
haha! I meant "Duuuuude" not "Duudeg"....whoops! sorry if I confused anybody :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:31 pm
Josh Johnson:

Goto Youtube.com after this tutorial is released and type in "bug under skin" and see 125,000 results of the same thing. But Josh I would love to know how to do this but I'm fearing that it'd be over used and not cool anymore... Andrew ever think of showing us on how to make it look like veins popping out? That'd be neat eh? ;)
Chris Reardon
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:42 pm
AK...That Jack o Lantern would be nice!
I can see the screenwriters beginning work on it now.

I'd like to see some more practical AE tutorials, like working with camera angles, and how to create some deeper effects in AE.

Such as shots used in the Matrix, (i.e. flybys, flyarounds, whatever)

...good luck Sam doing a Keanu Reeves style backwards bend.

Hey Andrew, I was watching CBS. I think it was during the football game on Sunday and I looked up at the weird promo going on, and someone had your Riot Gear effects on it using the Green Grunge like your tutorial.

Someone who comes here must work for CBS or something because I also noticed the Ink Drops in promos for "Moonlight"

but as your intro music play Frank Sinatra's "I've Got You (Under My Skin)"
October 23rd, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
Sam is a trooper!
Ohhh! This gives me an idea! Maybe you should have Sam crawling out of his grave! Because you know what happened in the last tutorial! Because that's where all the bugs are from, in the ground!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:03 pm
I got chills when you said Sam would have bugs crawling in his skin.....Poor bugs....creepy
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:08 pm
I thought sam was shot in the head.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:11 pm
Creepy! You could use this for a lot of things too, like an electronic bug implanted in someone, something travelling through someones blood stream and expanding to kill them, (could be used in conjunction with medical zoom to have blood cells expanding, then zoom out, and see some dudes arteries growing), and lots of disgusting stuff like that!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:12 pm
Can't wait for the tutorial!

Also, I found this hillarious:
We’ll probably go shoot some footage of Sam getting infested today or tomorrow
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:16 pm
"Ohhh! This gives me an idea! Maybe you should have Sam crawling out of his grave! Because you know what happened in the last tutorial! Because that’s where all the bugs are from, in the ground!"

"I thought sam was shot in the head."

This actually would be cool. It would be a great follow up to the outtake that he did. Yes..he was "shot in the head" -- digitally. But even that shot didn't take off his head.

Also it would be a tip of the hat to the "thriller" video.... wait... did I type that? Oh well.. my backspace key is broke. :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:43 pm
Sam taking one for the team! Go Sam!!!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:53 pm
i feel sorry for sam some times....
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:54 pm
lol... Which will come first... the tutorial or the new product... =)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:59 pm
Matt in MO,
There are quite a few of us who use Andrew's tutorials or products for our official work. That's why it was key what Josh Johnson said. It's not always the subject matter that's important, it's the technigue you learn.

For instance, I had to remove a hat from someone's head on a show I work on, and I used the reverse stabilization method to do it.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:00 pm
Sam needs a good something creepy is crawling under his skin effect, what the heck he has done everything else as an actor
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:16 pm
I've always liked where the Borg implant pops out of Captain Picard's face at the beginning of Star Trek: First Contact.

October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:16 pm
Hey Andrew!
I just wanted to know if you're still planing on doing this "Forrest Gump"-like Live-Action-Old-Footage-tutorial?
Anyway, keep up the good work!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:17 pm
Hee Andrew, sounds great but why already number 50? thats not wat you said you would do.
This week really has turned out to a busy one, luckily I found a little time to put together this mini-tutorial. It doesn’t really count towards the 50, but I sure had fun making it. I’ll keep you updated on new things.

Whats up with this? here you say that the Riot gear Promo didn't count as a real tutorial. but it is number 48.
So this number 50 is number 49. So that means that Your real number 50, aka number 51. Has to be even bigger, better, cooler, geniaaler ( dutch).

He didn't see this one coming right????? AHAHAHAHAHA.

gr. tesssam from Leiden Holland

well anyway I'm really looking forward to this tutorial.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:20 pm

btw, I kow that you wrote:

IMPORTANT NOTE: This tutorial doesn't really count. I just need a little more time to finish the other ones I'm working on. Hopefully this will hold you over.

but does this mean that there will be another number 48? or as I say above, a really cool number 51?
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:22 pm
Poor Sam¡¡¡
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:29 pm
uhhhh. Number 48 is the Medical Zoom, Number 49 is Magic Glass. The tutorial in between are just little things I made. But to keep them in order I use decimals. Our tutorial system lists in numerical order...

Number 50 is on the way.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:40 pm
Hey there!, I like the idea for tutorial #50, I'm sure that Andrew and Sam will make a good job one more time. Looking forward to it. ;)

Happy Halloween for everyone! :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:41 pm
ohh lol. yea i see it now. hmm kinda stupid off me. well anyway. looking forward to it.

keep up the geniaale work.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:43 pm
if i dont see some new products pronto .. im going to pull a sam in my trucks front seat
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:46 pm
Here we go again, My post's keep getting deleted, They are on the product and on subject matter, this seems very odd.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:47 pm
Sorry VC Delete the above and this, My Bad
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:58 pm
Thank you...I was asking for a Halloween tutorial. That would be so cool.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:11 pm
do your stuff andrew !!!! Show us the way !
Orc Master
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:15 pm
Great stuff! That bug trick seems like such a useful effect! You just never know when you'll have to get some poor dude's skin all filled with creepy stuff 'till someone tells you he wants a video with that for the next day :P

Anyways, great stuff. Not really a tradition that Halloween thing here in Venezuela, but it'll be fun (and useful) to watch ;)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:16 pm
That would be great. Been trying to figure that out for a while.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:29 pm
I'm excited about the bug under the skin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:45 pm
What? Sam is alive? How did he... How did you.. How...

Anyway, just can't wait!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:48 pm
Actually it should be similar to the Medical Zoom tut, as far as skin crawling that is going to be like thew zombie face morph I presume.

But hey Who am I but a lone artists trying to explolain how it is done :(
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:52 pm
ace - i am assuming it will be with displacement maps which is great - I am super-lame with them!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 4:17 pm
Hi Andrew.

First, I just want to say that I really like your work !

Second. I'm a french guy that's why my english is not perfect but well, this evening i was watching a show "Star acadamy" (yeah you can laugh...) on TF1 (The first channel in france but not the best...) and all the "carton" (I don't the word in english) between the show and the ads were full of your riot gear videos (Paint, Ink etc...) and also had the same style as your future DVD evolution (I'm not sure of that sentence...)

Well it's not important but I thought you should know that in case of you would "attack" TF1 ^^
Matt in MO.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 4:20 pm

I know they are all about techniques and stuff. I just wanted to let everyone know that I saw VC in action... not hounding anyone for using it.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 4:40 pm
GREAT!!! I can't wait!!!

October 23rd, 2007 @ 4:47 pm
cool, i tried that one before with a face(picture though)

i used displacement filter and moved the point + spherize filter over time to make it swell...

pretty easy for a not too realistic effect, because it was rush job for an animated flyer but iam sure i will learn a few new approaches here.

good luck ;)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:04 pm
I can't Belive my Luck!!! I just posted a note on Creative Cow to make this very Effect!!! thanks Andrew for the great Tutorials!!! Hope you get it done before the 31!!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:22 pm
Sorry Matt, I misunderstood.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:23 pm
Sorry Matt, I misunderstood. I just get tired of people complaining that Andrew's tutorials are being used in "the real world" and he's not getting compensated."

-P.S. I think this comment might post twice because my browser just acted funky.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:45 pm
Hey Andrew,
I'm evacuated from my home (San Digeo Fire), a tut with Evolution will sure make my day.

Can't wait!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:59 pm
things could get really interesting.. using the face warp, medical zoom and this bug thing... You could come up with a pretty snazzy short film.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:20 pm
for tut #52, 53, or whatever, id like to see some text importing and so on.. like importing subtitles and using them, effects, and whatsoever, byeee
October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:23 pm
@ bwoogie yes It could be a new "HULK" effect :)
October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:34 pm
To the guy allways asking about FORREST GUMP fx old footage new footage ..
go to youtube thier is a 30 min video of how they did that effect and others .. very good video try and find it shouldnt be hard at all ..
October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:43 pm
Bugs under skin??... first thing that comes to mind for me is The Matrix.
Cant wait!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
Hey andrew, looking forward to the 50th tutorial. Take your time. I think i can say this about everyone who is a video co-pilot user, that we always appricate everything you and your team have done for us. Can't wait for evolution.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
Hey andrew, looking forward to the 50th tutorial. Take your time. I think i can say this about everyone who is a video co-pilot user, that we always appricate everything you and your team have done for us. Can't wait for evolution.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 8:22 pm
Did someone get ahold of Evolution that you know that might use it for something on television? Curious because I was watching the Scream awards on Spike tv and they were using some animations that looked similar to Evolution.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 8:54 pm
FANTASTIC cant wait to see it im hanging out for the new dvd too............thanks Andrew.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 10:12 pm
Hello Andrew
I like to call this new tutorial
The Golden 50th tutorial

I think it sounds good
October 23rd, 2007 @ 10:44 pm

You rock socks. Puma socks espcecially, 'cuz they're so comfy, and you look like the type to rock comfy socks!...I dont' know why...you seem more of a fruit of the loom socks type of guy..I don't know...

ANYWAY...I've always wanted to know how they made those HP commercials with the hands...I thought it was just basic motion tracking, but then I saw a brief "making" and it was definitely alot more complex...that would def. be a cool tutorial...Or even those old HP commercials with the picture frames, I know they did it in Shake...but there's gotta be a way to do it in AE.

Ps...i dont' like feet...just kind of went off on a tangent there.

PPs.....Bugs under the skin are rad.

PPPs....3DSmax tutorials are awesome...just thought I'd get that out there.

Hey Mr. Andrew
Maybe you could make a tutorial how to Morph Sam into a Bug!
Still waiting for it
Whatever it is
It will be great
October 24th, 2007 @ 2:13 am
I agree with what Doug sayed ... first thing that comes to mind for me is The Matrix considring the many requests ... but still will be fun and intresting ...
God blass you Andrew ...
October 24th, 2007 @ 2:40 am
Did you mean god blasst andrew or did you mean something more nice? :D

(matrix can't be done unless you have like 30 camera's lined up in a circle I guess)
October 24th, 2007 @ 2:48 am
GOD bless you guys
October 24th, 2007 @ 3:35 am

You seriously are starting to freak me out, because the past few tutorials (Magic Glass, Medical Zoom, Set Extension, Demon Face Warp) I have wanted to know how to do for an absolute age!

My new film The Invasion is on it's way soon, and I will definitely be using this tutorial ;)

Thanks again.

October 24th, 2007 @ 3:51 am
sounds exciting, well not for sam .but still sounds awsome
October 24th, 2007 @ 4:44 am
Oppps ... That show how my English is very GOOD :)
But I mean it in the nice way ... come on guys ... I like Andrew :p

dear Tobias ... I know that the maker for Matrix use more then 49 Cam ...

Just a thought no more ... I maybe right or in the worng way ... But one thing that I'm sure ........... nothing impasibole ... right Tobias ...
October 24th, 2007 @ 4:52 am
hey Andrew,

great stuff as usual, looking forward to more horror tutes - bug infection sounds cool esp if you can make them come out the mouth, ears, eyes etc :)

ps what happened to twitch - is it still in the pipeline?

October 24th, 2007 @ 5:29 am
I bet this new tute will be rubbish just like the others...... (Joking)

Great work Andrew. Hope its all going well for the family too.

Look foward to the new products too.

All the best!!

October 24th, 2007 @ 6:46 am
Cool!! I belive you will creat a great angain. I think we can wait a little bit, but we want to see the tutorial. You are the best tutorial maker i think.
October 24th, 2007 @ 9:49 am
Without your cool Tutorials I think I would only do cheap effects. But now it looks like I am a pro! ;-) I can´t wait much longer I check your site every day five times!^^
October 24th, 2007 @ 10:06 am
stil love your site and tutorials, looking forward for no. 50.

maybe Forge Freeform an option??? to create crawling creatures under your (or someone elses skin)

lets wait,
October 24th, 2007 @ 10:33 am
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! So do we have to buy these bugs or what? I don't like bugs under my skin... :(
October 24th, 2007 @ 10:41 am
okay sorry bandar, u'r right!
October 24th, 2007 @ 10:48 am
Looking forward
October 24th, 2007 @ 10:58 am
I,m excited and looking forward.I can,t bear!!
October 24th, 2007 @ 11:14 am
I like the idea!
Scott is probably right and youtube will be full of videos about people with bugs under their skin but i think the techniques taught in the tutorial are ment to be used for all kinds of other things and not just to recreate the exact same effect shown in the tutorial.

Looking forward to it,
October 24th, 2007 @ 11:46 am
Sam might take a constant pummeling (sp?), but in all our hearts, he is...A HERO! But Andrew is a God so, ha! Take that fan boys!

Just kidding. Both Andrew and Sam are pure awsomeness at what they do. Can't wait to see the new tutorial! I wonder how you would pull that off? Motion tracking with a displacement map perhaps? Well, that's the idea I'm getting.

A good reference to look at would be The Mummy when the scarab beatles burrow under the peoples skin, if that's the kind of creepy crawly thing you mean :P.

Greetings from NYC, and release Evolution already!!!

**angry muttering and cursing**

I must add it to my collection :D.

Best wishes.
October 24th, 2007 @ 12:09 pm
I agree with Tino. These tutorials can be copied, but the principles taught can be used for so many things. That is what makes these tutorials so valuable to me. I use the principles taught to improve the quality of my work. I don't copy everything AK does.
October 24th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm
All of these tutorials are great! I am definitely a newby, but learning all the time. What I'd LOVE to see sometime is a remake of the sliders vortex. I really haven't tried it myself though.

Sliders was awesome (at least for awhile) and we're watching them on Netfix. My kid wants to jump through a vortex now! :-)
October 24th, 2007 @ 1:49 pm
I'm sure if anyone really tried they could think up 3 different ways to do this. But the beauty is in the subtleties, own it folks! Make it your own (;
October 24th, 2007 @ 1:54 pm
Looks great!

Just one question, will you be using any plug-ins (like particular or whatever) that aren't built-in to AE?

Thanks, cant wait.

I hope u guys ordered a bed to sam at the ospital afterwards!?
Gonna send him flowers when i get the next salery;)
October 24th, 2007 @ 2:25 pm
Ever since I found your site 2 weeks ago, I've been addicted eversince. I'm really looking forward to any and all tutorials you have to give out. But if you listen to any special requests, here's mine.

How to make someone puff into smoke. There are other types of variations. In Corpse Bride for example, the dead girl puffs into a millions of butterflies. I would so love to learn how to do that effect.
October 24th, 2007 @ 2:26 pm
Andrew, your site, your work, your tutorials astound me. Most of this you actually put up for free, and I have used your tutorials for some time now, and I, along with everyone else here (probably :P), really appreciate all the time you must put in to making all this fantastic stuff for us :D

p.s. I'd buy your products, if a) I had money and b) I was financially independent :P But keep up the great stuff :D
October 24th, 2007 @ 3:11 pm
Andrew has used particular in a couple of his latest tutorials, check them out there pretty good
Kyle Troxell
October 24th, 2007 @ 3:30 pm
Are you doing this in after effects or intergrated (sp) with 3d max and after effects?

either way, it will be awesome. A Scanner Darkly had a pretty cool bug under the skin sub plot.
October 24th, 2007 @ 4:15 pm

It may explain my idea ...
October 24th, 2007 @ 9:17 pm
Looking forward to the next tutorial.

Are we going to see that tutorial on adding physics to text at any time? Remember one being advertised as coming soon and it had a little preview movie to watch a couple of months ago.

Greetings from Germany
October 25th, 2007 @ 3:37 am
Hi Andrew - you say that you do the free tutorials because you want us to buy your products - So why don't you do your tutorials with focus on the use of your products. E.g. I bought the "Action Movie Essentials" and I will be glad if you did some more tutorials specially using this package.

It will then of cause be the other way around - that we need to buy your products before we can follow along with the tutorials :-)

As everybody else says - keep up the good work.

PS - Will there be a "Action Movie Essentials #2" some day?
October 25th, 2007 @ 7:06 am
monta ese tutorial de una vez !! asi como este , lo quiero hacer hoy mismo
October 25th, 2007 @ 7:17 am

Anyone know just how close Andrew & family live to those fires?
October 25th, 2007 @ 1:47 pm
OH,,,,,,,,,,, i know he lives in L.A and the fires are around the San Diego area i believe. So he should be ok. Other wise that's horrible all those people losing there homes.
October 25th, 2007 @ 1:50 pm
the fires!!!
October 25th, 2007 @ 1:57 pm
Yeah, he should be fine. I live in San Diego, and a couple nights ago I could see flames from my house. The winds shifted and pushed the fire away from me, though.
October 25th, 2007 @ 2:23 pm
Everything is good here...
October 25th, 2007 @ 2:43 pm
would be great if you could show how to make an element to grow in after effects : )

Here is an other video of something under the skin. It's not a VFX though (probably a SFX). But it looks cool and could be used as a reference, because it isn't done on computer.
October 25th, 2007 @ 4:54 pm
I agree with Dr.BASS I would like to se more tutorials using the products !! I think you (Andrew!) are doing an excellent job with the tutorials and I really appreciate all you talent and the time you spend doing it, Thanks once again!!

I know how you guys feel, you feel sad, you feel frustrate and you feel really furius.......who can make this?!....it has not sense.....

Andrew, your blog was a great idea, but sometimes I think you've just open pandorra's box. Because ppl getting inpatient and want to see new / more stuff :) Thats the bad side if you let the community communicate with ya.
October 26th, 2007 @ 6:53 am
here is a revelation...
is not Andrew, is a bio-mechanic-control remote droid who answer in the blog, andrew is working in his massive brain control device... got no time.

so be patience the tutorial will come... when it's done off course, meanwhile let de droid talk.... jeje
Greetings Andrew and is good to know that you are not envolved in those fires.

see ya on the flip side.
October 26th, 2007 @ 7:39 am

good luck with the whole - ewwww...bug under skin - thing looking forward to it. maybe you could use the mummy for inspiration. you know, the thing where that guy gets a bug going up into his brain and when it gets there he goes mad and accidentally runs into a wall and dies....you know.

October 26th, 2007 @ 8:16 am
Hi Andrew,

Just idle curiosity really... Have yo ever considered a web counter on your blog... I bet the numbers would be sky high with hits.......

I reckon you would get offers of sponsers for a banner etc etc..

Great work keep it up..

From the UK
October 26th, 2007 @ 8:19 am
I think you're on to something there, Roldan!
October 26th, 2007 @ 9:10 am
I love how diverse this site is. So many people who speak so many languages (excluding English sometimes ;-))

I was just wondering, do you speak Spanish Andrew? Or do some of the people who comment just expect you to understand what they are requesting?
October 26th, 2007 @ 9:22 am
Andrew I want the tutorial right now!!! Just kidding, but on a serious note can I come visit you and be in a tutorial? :P
October 26th, 2007 @ 10:11 am
i was thinking how about a tutorial with any new effects but made on Andrew?
it will be great to finally see who is the man behind the magic...
but "the Andrew Kramer" not the bio-mechanical-remote-controlled answering machine!!
Ö and btw how is your baby? i got a daugther too and she is the sun in my cold mountain.
greetings master of the universe.
October 26th, 2007 @ 10:44 am

I'm a newbie when it comes to AE. I actually have v7. Your tuts are great!! I actually have your Riot Gear and DSFX product. I love the intro to the AE Basic Training video. Where did you get the music, and voiceover for that piece? I don't remember that in the DSFX download.

October 26th, 2007 @ 11:56 am
Hey Andrew,
Can't wait to see this new tutorial! Since I am making a horror series, this tutorial will be perfect!
October 26th, 2007 @ 1:09 pm
Happy 50th free tutorial OR is it ?? ..were not counting the missing atom bomb on the city "explosion" tutorial that was on videocopilot along time ago now are we now Mr Kramer?

BTW anyone got an inexpensive way/device you can transfer mini dv tape to computer other than wearing out your camera doing boring wedding video footage.

Did my first tv commercial spot and got paid using the knowledge from your tutorials and your awsome products. THANX
October 26th, 2007 @ 1:18 pm
I AGREE WITH "MyNameisNobody"

I wish the upcoming tutorial would be on making demon eyes, like you see in Supernatural or Smallville.

Like this: http://www.webdesign.org/img_articles/10130/demon-eye.jpg
October 26th, 2007 @ 2:11 pm
hey Andrew.
When Evolution DVD comes up?

great work.

October 26th, 2007 @ 2:30 pm
To Helge Kallevik:

Just mask a black solid and maybe use the transfer modes... By the way you'll most likely have to rotoscope. :)
October 26th, 2007 @ 2:38 pm
You know how to do it. It is just a lot of work. Just try.
October 26th, 2007 @ 3:39 pm
%$@something, i dont know of a way, but if you're in the market for a new camcorder you should get one with flash memory. they only take a few minutes to copy. i would love a HD camera with flash memory.. only thing is flash cards cost more than minidv's
October 26th, 2007 @ 3:44 pm
I need a better camera and a lot of patience ;)
October 26th, 2007 @ 5:16 pm
Any camera will work Helge you're just using excuses to get a better camera... The camera doesn't do the work for you.
October 27th, 2007 @ 3:12 am
cant w8!!!
October 27th, 2007 @ 5:36 am
Hows it goin Andrew, great tutorials. Used some of your techniques for my university surreal film, its lookin pretty good.

Just wondered if you would ever be able to post a tutorial which shows a close up through the barrel of a gun, an explosion within, and the bullet leaving the gun in a nice slow motion effect. Similar to when Dean shoots the yellow eyed demon in the final episode of Supernatural Season 2.

Thanks for the tuts mate
October 27th, 2007 @ 8:10 am
When the camera quality s*ucks *ss masking it gets a little harder and doesn't always look that good.
October 27th, 2007 @ 9:52 am
Hi Andrew!

Looking a long time for some pre-matted stuff like the growing elements on evolution - so i wanna say thank you for releasing such a dvd.

I work with AE for a couple of years now but your tutorials helped me to enhance my motion design work and they have shown me a lot of techniques that are interesting for my productions.

Further i wanna say that your products have a unbelieveable price / perfomance ratio for such high quality stuff.

Think you heard it already million times before but what can i say - you are great.

Yepp... I have mini DV camcorder my self. Its a little bit cheesy to work with grainy footage, thats true. However it always looks pretty good after some color correction. HDV cameras are kinda expensive, so its ok with mini dv right now.
October 27th, 2007 @ 10:36 am
Love all these tutorials Andrew,
And I'm practically dying of suspense when it comes to this 50th one.....GAH....

Other than that, great jbob, keep up the amazing work on these videos....!
October 27th, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
Steve Burns:

Zoom into the barrel of a real gun then, model the 3D barrel, model the bullet, purchase Action Movie Essentials, and put this all together in AE
October 27th, 2007 @ 12:57 pm
No Jacko tut? WTF? I was hoping to see a shot of Sam with his head replaced by a jackolantern, and some bugs crawling up his skin through his neck, and up into the comped pumpkin noggin!!

Ah well, guess I will just have to wait for the ultra cool tut your making. :)
October 27th, 2007 @ 3:27 pm

Perhaps thats right! But when's Halloween??? We dont ccelebrate it much in our country.
Some Guy
October 28th, 2007 @ 12:17 pm
Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31.
More infos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

We don't celebrate it in our country either. At least not how it's celebrated in the USA. Our Halloween is limited to horror movies on TV...
October 28th, 2007 @ 12:24 pm

Don't want to steal the show from AK but was checking out the new redesigned site that a lot of you AE users know who Dean Velez is. he created a cool element them that made me wonder what Kramres was going to look like. I'm so pumped on AK release of his elements and tutorials.
October 30th, 2007 @ 4:31 pm
Andrew - just got Riot Gear/Designer SFX combo. Great stuff, already used the SFX for an ambient track in our yearly haunted house. We get about 350 people every year on Halloween here in SF, CA. Looking forward to your next tutorial, as our theme next year is "abandoned asylum" and we'll be trying to pull off some video installations, which will be created with AE. I am new to the world of AE (just got CS3) and your tutorials here and over at "the COW" are great. Thanks for finding the time, with your new baby around, to give so much back to the community. I've already used the technique from the "300 style time remapping" tutorial and the basic training stuff was great.
October 30th, 2007 @ 10:17 pm

So I make a prayer as well... could you figure a tutorial about that kind of transitions you use in the products promos? I mean the transitions with camera moviment between a comp and another.
